This is my moms favorite restaurant in morro bay so i got food to go (to take back to l.a.) i got for me clam chowder / calamari sandwich and my mom the oyster omelet . Clam chowder was good not great . However there needs more seasoning like salt and pepper . I hate potatos to be filler in my chowder. The chowder had very few mostly clams yumm. We enjoy Dorns. The dining room is cozy and nice for a candle lit dinner. We love the view. The rack of lamb was good but not cooked med rare like I asked. The vegetables were delicious. This is a Morro Bay staple. The food is good and the service is excellent. We sat outside with a great view of Morro Rock. The only con is have is, the French fries could use some seasoning, they were plain and a little bland. So if you get the fries, be ready to add some salt. read more

My family and I have had consistently exceptional experiences at Dorn's over many decades. We go for the amazing clam chowder and scrumptious, sourdough bread, basket and butter, but always find something new to try as well. I had the grilled vegetable sandwich which came with a generous portion of delicious fries. The sandwich was a good size and filled with delectable vegetables served on sourdough. One member of our party had the oysters and said they were some of the best she'd ever had. The service was beyond compared, and we had a magnificent view of the bay from our indoor table. The dining room was comfortable, except for one large party that was a little loud from time to time; oops, I think that was us! We tried to keep it down though. We never miss a trip to Dorn's on our an annual pilgrimage to Morro Bay and if you have not tried it, or if it has been a while, I encourage you to give it a shot. We stopped by Dorns after a morning cruise through Morro Bay and I gotta say, it was such a good call. The whole place has that classic diner charm but elevated, with a clean and cozy vibe inside and a view of the water that really seals the deal. The fog was rolling in heavy that morning but it kind of made the experience feel even more relaxing and peaceful. We sat in a booth with big windows looking out toward the water which was perfect. I ended up ordering the eggs of your choice breakfast with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage. Let me tell you the sausage was the standout. I still don't know what kind it was but it had that perfect crisp on the outside and was juicy, salty, and packed with flavor. The hashbrowns were golden and had that nice crunch too. I also got a cup of clam chowder on the server's recommendation and that stuff was legit. Super creamy and smooth with nice chunks of clam. It tasted really fresh like they had just made it that morning. My wife ordered what I think was a potato soup and even though we weren't familiar with it it was actually really good. The bread and butter that came out was solid and the blueberry muffin was warm and fluffy and definitely homemade. Service was really sweet and laid back which made the whole experience that much better. Only downside was having to keep checking on our dog in the car since the marine layer kept things chilly but the staff was really kind and accommodating. Highly recommend Dorns if you're in Morro Bay. The food hits, the view is great, and you can tell this spot has been doing things right for a long time. read more

Place was gorgeous, very upscale restaurant and seems to be more fine dining. The people I was with have never tried this place and neither have I so why not right? The restaurant has a beautiful view of the ocean and Morro rock, I loved the seating and decor. I did order clam chowder bowl and it was okay. I really wish it had potatoes in it, definitely need more clams and I wish it was on the thicker side. The server came by one time to see if we needed anything and that was it. I was really hoping to have better service since it looks like a 5 star restaurant. It wasn't busy to where she couldn't have checked on us more. Would have been nice to have a refill of water, maybe another beer. Shoot ask us if we wanted dessert. I hate bringing race into it but we were what seemed like the only Hispanics in there. Waitress was nice and the drinks were made well. The views are what draws you here. Not necessarily the food. We started with potato leek soup and artichokes but didn't realize the chokes were fried. Missed that on the menu. The soup was flavorful. Definitely on the thicker side, but good. The artichokes were jarred and pickled flavored, which I didn't like. The crust was firm not mushy. But overall, Not what we expected and would not order again. We both ordered the swordfish which was broiled. We liked the flavor and the beans were cooked with a crisp snap to them. So the wife and I visited morrow bay and we decided to stop by for lunch. We both got the zuchini sticks for an appetizer which were nice and crispy. For the main dish we got the Cesar salad with blackened salmon which had fresh lettuce and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Only downside was they ran out of croutons so our salads were incomplete on that end. To drink we got Arnold Palmers which were mixed perfectly and we got a margarita along with a White Russian cocktail drink. Service was great and we loved that it was pet friendly. We were in town visiting my grandparents and wanted to go somewhere good for my brother's birthday. They had mentioned Dorn's but were worried we'd have to wait a long time to get a table. We decided to go at 4:30pm but were pleasantly surprised to get a table right away, considering it was a Sunday of a holiday weekend. We were seated at the window which was really nice--the views are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be there through sunset. For food, we were fully obsessed with the warm sourdough bread & butter. Seriously I could have eaten just that. I got a cup of clam chowder because we were told it was legendary and it really was: perfectly creamy and lots of clams. Honestly I should have stopped there, but I was craving fish so went with the halibut, mashed potatoes and veggies. The fish was slightly overcooked and I felt like the mashed potatoes could have been creamier. But all in all it was good and I just think I would go with a different entree next time. read more

Wow, we had the most amazing dinner at Dorn's! To begin with the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Next they were quickly able to configure the seating for a party of 7 with an electric wheelchair. Third the food was fantastic and the serving size huge. No one left hungry. The best meal we have had in years. We will be back next year when we visit Morro Bay again. read more

Oh Dorns. Food was not good last night. I ordered the chicken piccata which I have ordered several times before but last night it was so dry and the top of it was like hard crust. Also, I asked what the vegetable was and I was told green beans, but I was not told that the green beans contain mushrooms and I cannot eat mushrooms. Also the salad was overdressed on the bottom so all the lettuce was sopped up and stuck to the plate. It's such a shame because Dorns is always our go to place, but last night, my food was barely edible. Such a shame. read more

We are out of towners living in Redondo Beach, coming to Morro Bay to see our son play at The Siren. We ate dinner at Dorn's and it was fantastic! The special halibut and the seafood salad were great! We loved the bread and the wine pours were very generous, unlike those in L.A. County. The best part of the meal, though, was the service by Kathy. She was efficient, helpful and especially funny! When we were done with our meal, our son showed up and Kathy was very generous and let him order a whole meal. The restaurant was packed and I know that she probably wanted to turn the table, but she was very gracious with us. We so appreciated it, we never get our son to ourselves, and it was a treat to sit there and talk without being rushed. Kathy is a gem!! read more

Visited here as it was one of the only places open at 745pm for dinner. Had a 25 minute wait as the amount of people coming here was steady. We got an indoor seat along the windows. We got bread, menus and water and then waited 20 minutes to get our order taken. I got my beer and still had to wait to submit our food order. I noticed other people were getting more attentive service around us. We finally got a different waitress, thank goodness, to attend to us and finally ordered our food. Wife ordered the fried prawns which were delicious. The breading was barely tasted and added immensely to the great flavor. I had the Dungeness Crab cocktail which was okay. This place has a comfortable atmosphere. The service is spirited once you've been noticed though I wonder if there are enough staff. Fish may be ordered blackened, broiled, sautéed and pouched. The meal comes with bread and like the sandwich rolls are under baked. They are in a hurry. The blackened salmon sandwich is good. The grilled vegetables are very good. A community staple for years, breakfast here consistently awesome. I always opt for some Buckwheat pancakes- (if you know, you know). Seems like everyone is always ordering Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's; however, I haven't had one yet. The omelets are great, and I often go for the linguica and eggs. Second time here! Both times were amazing. This time I had the fish with curry sauce. OMG...the curry was the best. It wasn't spicy. Instead it was yummy, well balanced in flavor and something that I wanted more. My wife ordered the macadamia crusted fish. The fish was soft and tender and well seasoned rhetorical macadamia was fresh and added a wonderful texture. We sat by the window so we had a great view of the main strip and Morro rock. Really enjoy this place - and the views are just magnificent! They have an extensive outdoor dining area where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Morro bay rock and the rest of Morro Bay. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly and hospitable! Their clam chowder is delicious and one of the best I've ever had! The bread and butter is also delicious and comes out nice and warm (just like it's meant to be!). For entrees, we ordered the chicken piccata and the scallop sautee. The chicken was a little overcooked and the scallop sautee was pretty basic, so I'd overall I'd give Dorn's 4 vs 5 stars. We will definitely come back again soon to try more on the menu though so I will report back accordingly. Overall, a great spot to even just grab some drinks and appetizers with friends/family while enjoying the amazing Morro Bay views! read more
