We had dinner here during our trip and really liked the location. The restaurant is in a beautiful spot, the atmosphere was relaxing, and we were seated quickly even though we arrived close to closing time. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and everything came out at the right time. I also liked that they bring warm bread and butter to the table as a complimentary appetizer. The food, though, was the only disappointment. Everything was fresh, but it lacked flavor. My boyfriend's pasta was very watery. I ordered the fish, which was cooked well, but it was so spicy that it covered the taste of the fish. The baked potato that came with it was just a plain potato with no seasoning at all. Overall, I'd give this place three stars. The service, atmosphere, and location were great, but the food just didn't live up to the rest of the experience.

Dorn's is my favorite place to eat when I'm in Morro Bay for dinner. The atmosphere and service are consistent and excellent, and the food is always delicious. I love sitting outside, enjoying the beautiful views of the Three Stacks and Morro Rock. A coulpe of the outdoor tables even have their own fire pits, which makes for a cozy dining experience on a cool evening. Their clam chowder is some of the best in town, and I always enjoy the fresh fish selections. They also offer a variety of daily specials featuring local catches, so there's always something new to try. The staff is consistently friendly, attentive, and helpful, providing outstanding service every time I visit. Whether I'm dining alone or with my family, Dorn's is always on my list for dinner whenever I'm in Morro Bay.

After arriving at Morro Bay this last Saturday our first stop was to have brunch at Dorn's located on the Bluff above the Embarcadero however, after seeing the very large crowd waiting to get in, we decided to return and have an early breakfast on Monday and what a difference that made no waiting And we got seated right away SERVICE: excellent except I had to ask for my orange juice after finishing 3/4 of my breakfast, but it was worth it because the orange juice was cold and freshly squeezed and refreshing! AMBIANCE: the decor was nice. We actually got a table with a view of Morro rock, but it was half covered with fog. There's also outside seating that have space heaters and umbrellas. FOOD: the seafood omelette was topped with one shrimp and filled with 75% mushrooms and bits of crab and a little more shrimp my wife ordered scrambled eggs, but with the option of three pancakes instead of potatoes, however we did notice a textural difference in the eggs. I'm not sure whether they use liquid eggs substitutes because they were a bit runny but we thought they were very thin not thick and fluffy, but they did taste OK the coffee was good. The tea. My wife ordered was just luke warm so she asked for another pot and it was still not hot. NOTE: the Embarcadero and front Street has become extremely overcrowded on the weekends and that stands true with Pismo and Avila and Cayucos. i'm glad we were able to enjoy these places before they got this way.

My family and I have been coming here annually each summer for the last three decades. I think we only missed one year, 2020. This place is consistently our favorite in the area. The clam chowder is something you do not want to miss out on. And the complementary sourdough bread that is included is exquisite. We tend to always be a larger party, somewhere between 8 & 12 attending. This year there was a bit of a snag in that they have few larger tables that can accommodate us, and that was being used when we arrived. The issue was not the fault of the restaurant, just a thing that happened, causing the wait to be significantly longer as those before us were deeply engaged in conversation. The staff made other accommodations for us by creating a large table out of numerous two tops, which we appreciated very much. Our server was Kathy, and she was absolutely delightful; could not have done anything better. She was pleasant, humorous, very accurate and efficient. I let Kathy know it was my brother's birthday and she arranged to have a beautiful chocolate mousse delivered to the table and we sang happy birthday to him, making for an even increased great experience.

New York with eggs. Cooked medium but more on the rare side. Hashbrowns were cold.

We've come to Dorn's multiple times over the years. And while you can't expect everything to be perfect every time-today was definitely an off day. We were seated on the patio Saturday AM very quickly. But then the delays started. From getting our drink order, to food order, to getting our food and then refills. When our food arrived it was cold but being hungry there wasn't sense in sending it back. We had to ask for refills on both water and drinks. We ordered the New York steak and eggs and the seafood omelet. The seafood omelet should have been the mushroom and shrimp omelet. In total there was probably 1/2 tablespoon of crab. Sourdough toast with strawberry jelly and hash browns were good. Just disappointed in the time it took to get our items from start to finish.

Solidly good food, but nothing that reached the level of amazing. Their sourdough french toast was at about the level of what I make at home, which is still better than most restaurants. The eggs were well made (i.e., not overcooked, not slimy) but rather bland in flavor. Maybe it's the eggs they use? Orange juice was freshly squeezed. Fresh fruit was just okay in terms of ripeness. Ambiance was also good. I enjoyed the pretty good view of the ocean and The Rock from the outside seating. Next time, I would ask for a different table that wasn't all way at the end, in the shade, and too far from the heaters for me to feel them. Also of the note, the chilly breeze made my food cold before I could finish it all. Obviously, that last part wasn't the restaurant's fault since the food came out warm. Very short wait time (that was way shorter than the 10 minutes they predicted). Friendly helpful service. They don't necessarily check in on you, but it was always easy to get wait staff's attention. I do want to come back on a weekend and try their creme brulee french toast. (They don't serve it on weekdays.)

    Seafood Brochette was phenomenal

I went in 30 minutes before closing. Sat at the bar. Treated myself to a glass of wine & Seafood Brochette! Scallops Shrimp Swordfish Tuna & Salmon with veggies all grilled to perfection!! I had veggies as a side & it was green beans, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms. The food, service & ambience were perfection as always! I am forever lucky to live here & have these wonderful places to hang out at everyday all year long....

there was a little bit of a wait with the place being a popular spot but once we're seated, our server was able to take care of us right away. we also had a view of morro rock which was pretty cool! food was good we were satisfied with the portions! we might've ordered too much for 2 people bc we were so full by the end (the pancakes were huge!) lol

The restaurant is very cozy modern old feel. Great atmosphere and convenient to so many hotels. We didn't have reservations on a Thursday night and was seated rather quickly. Our server Deedee was bubbly and sweet. She was very personable. I will start this review by bullet pointing to show why I only gave it 3 stars: *The medium rare steak came out well... Even our server mentioned that she told the kitchen team the steak looked overcooked. They still brought it ou times overcooked. *The other two steaks still had some pink but not the medium rare that we are used to. They were salty but I was starving! *The lobster was a bit overcooked so it was rubbery. *They got our orders wrong on two dishes in addition to the dessert. *The chocolate cake was as dry as can be. *We asked for a creme brulee and they brought us a berry cobbler. The reason why we gave 3 stars and not two is because Deedee was just so darn sweet! Other dishes that tasted yum yums! *The scallops were yummy. The lemon caper sauce was really zesty and perfect for the scallops. *The Nancy Salad was extremely yummy. Crisp, fresh and balanced with bleu cheese, bacon, avocado and a creamy dressing. *The AHI was good but the sesame crust was just too much. It overpowered the delicate ahi taste. We want to try their breakfast, since they said their pancakes are supposed to be amazing. Let me see if I can convince the fam to give them another shot.

This is always a favorite restaurant for my husband and I to come to when we come tomorrow Bay. Typically, we'll stop here and do brunch. We can sit outside with our little dog in spend our time walking around the shops. We came today because we just wanted to get away for a little while and enjoy ourselves. There is a line waiting. That's not unexpected. Doran's is a fan favorite. The good news is you can get a drink and wait right by the restaurant and not have any problems. So it makes the waiting go a lot faster. After about 30 minutes we were sat outside and our waitress came and we chatted and gave our order. I was bummed they forgot my puppies chicken breast. It finally came, but only after we had fed her most of our bacon because we figured her chicken wasn't coming. Bummer. That being said, our meals came out and they were just fine. My husband's bloody Mary's were fine. Matter fact you were back for a second. Everyone here was having a good time and enjoying ourselves. To the restaurant, please make sure your bacon is cooked. Halfway cooked bacon is not edible. Unfortunately, the Waitress is running so fast. It was hard to get a hold of her anyhow, will be back again. It wasn't our favorite experience. We've had wonderful enough experiences that we know this was just an off day.

I'm a regular customer at Dorn's, it's been a favorite eatery of mine for about ten years and about the same for my buddy Joe, I've brought my share of dates, family, and friends to enjoy this friendly with great food, fine establishment. Tuesday evening was different only in the fact that "WE" chose Dorn's for "OUR" after Wedding place to enjoy a dinner and celebrate here with all. We took our vow's at the 24st beach in Cayucos, our Aloha wedding on the sand. Monica and I chose an M&M's candy theme, we passed out some of the candy as we came into the restaurant and gave some to the staff, all in good fun. We were greeted by our server Joy T. and the dinner fun was on! Joy took great care of the six of us. Champagne was poured order was taken and we're On. The Oysters arrived in a timely fashion, boom then the Caesar salad my wife and I shared perfect, and the entrees followed. Everything was fresh and hot and all the entrees were served at the same time, thank you. WoW nicely done kitchen and orchestrated by Joy herself. She then followed the show with a special congratulatory Chocolate Moose dessert (see pic). The evening was very special to us and those that we shared our wedding day meal at Dorn's. Thank You Joy!

Eating at Dorn's is like meeting up with an old friend! The other day. I was doing both, since I was meeting my friend and having a fun birthday lunch! We got a cute table with a good view of the bay and it was a beautiful sunny day so the door was open. We each have our favorites here! My friend got the Caesar salad with grilled salmon on top. I usually like the Caesar with blackened salmon, but I chose the shrimp tacos because I had not had them there before. We sipped our Diet Cokes and admired the view while I opened my presents and admired the beautiful roses she had brought for me. The food came out quickly. There was delicious warm sourdough bread to accompany the salad. The salmon on the Caesar was grilled to perfection. My shrimp tacos were a little spicy for me, even though I got the smoked chipotle sauce on the side, but the tortilla itself tamed the heat a bit. We enjoyed the beautiful day in this lovely location. It wasn't crowded for 1 o'clock lunch now that tourist season is over. Dorn's doesn't take reservations, so it's always a little iffy if you go right at peak times. We caught up on all our recent activities and when the waitress asked what the roses were for, I said it was my birthday! Before I could turn around, she brought back a beautiful chocolate mousse with whipped cream on a tray that said happy birthday! Dorn's is a wonderful festive place to have a special occasion meal! It will remain one of my favorite places in Morro Bay!

    Fish and chips?

Yes, Fish & Chips, also A Seafood & Chips, quite good too.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do. I went the week after July 4th, lots of people, no problem without a reservation

Can my dog come to the restaurant?

Yes; however, you'll need to eat in the patio area. It's a good spot with heaters and a great view. Terrible if it's windy or foggy n' cold

Do they substitute omelette with egg whites?

Hi, it's been a couple of months since we were there, but I believe they do if you ask (we just went with the regular eggs).

When will adorns re-open, currently closed for construction?

They're not committing to a reopen date yet but the tearing out is done and new walls etc. going in currently. Check back in a couple of weeks.

    Easter brunch hours?

So sorry I can't help you out with that I think if you give them a call they will help you out it's a great place to eat we really enjoyed it and I do hope they have a Sunday brunch for you

I thought you were only supposed to be offering takeout? Is this safe? I called and you guys said you were doing full service outside? Lied possibly?

I was there mid December Take Out Only and the food was great! Service from phone order to pickup 15 minutes

Do they allow dogs on their patio?

Yes! We had our two little dogs out there yesterday:)

Will you be serving a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving day? Thanks!!

    Tyra they do every year

Is warren dorn still serving coffee there?

    Not sure ?

On a quick day trip on a Friday afternoon, we decided to give this place a try. No reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Although we did not have a full bay view, we had a partial bay view. Some hits and misses with food and service. 1. Bowl of Clam Chowder (no bread bowls available). Chowder was piping hot and had nice pieces of clams (dad got a bit of clam shell..so be careful), celery and potatoes. The chowder was very creamy and not grainy or watery like other locations. I would definitely order again 5/5 2. Fish & Chips: Fresh Pacific cod, lightly breaded, served with house-made tartar sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. 5/5 3. Seafood Pasta: Linguini with jumbo prawns, fresh catch, Cajun cream sauce, garlic bread. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly 5/5 4. Side of Garlic bread: extremely disappointing. We ordered garlic bread with our chowder, it never came. Waitress decided to serve it with the mains (fish and chips) and we ordered for the entire table and she only brought 2 pieces. 5. Insalata Molina: Mixed greens, arugula, pear, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, mango vinaigrette. Couldn't tell you if this was any good bc the waitress NEVER brought but charged us for it. She then takes it off the bill and brings me the salad in a Styrofoam container. I told her I didn't want it and put it in my bag. Salad was so soggy (which means the kitchen prepared it and the waitress forgot to serve it) I would not order and do not recommend ordering it bc it was the size of a side salad definitely not worth the price point. 6. Mocktail Lavender lemonade: definitely not balanced, was pretty tart and again the price point was off. It was about 8oz lemonade for $12 They do offer a nice selection of wines. Restrooms are located outside the restaurant and are public restrooms, pretty dirty and out of stock. Although our service was a big miss, I do recommend the food items we ordered. I did take a star off due to the service.

When we entered the dog-friendly patio with our little Goldendoodle, Bailey, a large dog seated at the table closest to the only patio entrance lunged toward her and bared its teeth. Since it was the only way in and out, I let the staff know I was concerned. They immediately spoke with the owners, who moved their dogs farther under the table, and after our meal, the owner's father went above and beyond by opening the rope barriers so we could exit another way and avoid walking past them again. Both the father and son were incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating, which we really appreciated. Once we were settled, we were able to enjoy the beautiful patio. It's a quaint waterfront spot with gorgeous views, a relaxing atmosphere, and the perfect setting to enjoy fresh seafood. Bailey was promptly brought a complimentary bowl of water, and we loved seeing so many other well-behaved dogs enjoying the patio. It's easy to see why this restaurant has such a great reputation for being dog friendly. We ordered the King Salmon Quesadilla special, and it was absolutely delicious. My brother also really enjoyed the tri-tip sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and was served hot. While we wish the aggressive dogs had been seated somewhere other than the only entrance to the patio, that wasn't the restaurant's fault, and they handled the situation as well as they could. Mostly we were excited about the mid 90's, early 2000's music playlist that included Biggie; Bone, Thugs, & Harmony; Craig Mack; and some classic R&B joints I'm failing to remember right now. All this while we enjoyed two very cold beers - Michelob ultra for the babe and a Big Sur Double IPA on tap at 9.6 ABV for me. All this, paired with the wings, which were outstanding BTW, and it made for a great stop. Other things to know. -Order of 12 wings can be split into two flavors (choice of buffalo, bbq, or mild). We went with buffalo and bbq extra crispy. -The buffalo have an added pepper seasoning that we loved -Bathrooms are downstairs (there's also an elevator) -2 of the 3 TV's at the bar were not working (biggest critique) -There is outside seating with view of the rock and a beautiful sunset if you time it right (we did, but it was a bit hazy due to the fog or overcast or whatever you call it) -Also, we didn't try any other food so we can't vouch for much else but everything people had looked good and we didn't hear any complaints. TRY IT OR DIET FINAL WORD Definitely try it. Matter of fact, we're going to take our own advice and try it again later today!

They don't skimp on the chunks of fresh lobster. The roll is perfectly toasted, buttery, soft, and fluffy. Together with the lobster, you get a tangy, sweet, meaty sandwich packed with flavor. I also had a side of house made slaw and seasoned flat fries. The slaw has apples and a light vinaigrette that goes nicely with the rich roll. The fries are super crispy onthe outside and soft inside. I've never had fries like these anywhere else and I will be dreaming about them. This cute food truck is located near the water along the Embarcadero. There is plenty of outdoor seating (but not much shade). The people who run the truck are super friendly and inviting. My experience here was really great and I can't wait for my next visit to Morro Bay.

So, they will pause taking orders to catch up - and personally, I prefer that vs. someone taking my order and feeling like I'm Waiting "too long". They have two lobster roll options (we went with the Maine). It was dressed perfectly, had great seasoning and was very a generous portion. We also tried the CA shrimp roll, which had similar dressing/seasoning and was just as tasty. They also have slaw or "flat fries" option, which we opted for and they were so good! There are some benches to sit at & enjoy, or you can walk to the pier and eat there. Very little shade, but there are public bathrooms right by the benches.

Unfortunately, each visit has felt a little less impressive than the one before it, and this most recent experience was disappointing enough that I probably would not return. Parking is usually easy, and I have never had to walk more than a couple of minutes. There are also a couple of EV spaces nearby. When my girlfriend and I walked inside, the restaurant felt unusually warm, humid, and stuffy. It was uncomfortable enough that we briefly considered leaving. We chose outdoor seating instead, but that comes with its own drawbacks. The tables are exposed to the afternoon sun, pedestrians walk just feet away, vehicles pass close by, and the working dock is nearby, so you hear forklifts, unloading equipment, and active fishing operations throughout the meal. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, which I have ordered on all three visits. They were good and are honestly one of the main reasons I have continued returning. They are not easy to find where I live, and this version is enjoyable, even if it is not on the level of what I have had in places like New Orleans. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder with bacon. We have been comparing clam chowders around the Central Coast, and unfortunately this one ranked last among the several we have tried so far. She described it as average and nothing memorable. I ordered the steamer clams, and this was easily the biggest disappointment. The very first clam I ate had noticeable grit in it, and unfortunately that continued through most of the bowl. I would estimate that the majority of the clams had some amount of sand or grit, which made them unpleasant to eat. I also found one clam that remained completely closed after cooking. I left it untouched. At a restaurant specializing in seafood, I expected more careful preparation and inspection. The broth was also surprisingly bland. I ended up adding hot sauce just to give it more flavor. As I worked through the broth, I also noticed three small hairs. I cannot say where they came from, but finding multiple hairs in the same dish was understandably concerning and further reduced my appetite. The service did not help. Our server took our order, delivered drinks and food, and eventually brought the check, but there was very little interaction between those points. No one checked whether we needed anything or asked how the food was going. That was especially frustrating because if someone had checked in, I would have had an opportunity to mention the problems with the clams while I was eating them. Overall, the Oysters Rockefeller were still good, but almost everything else about this visit was disappointing: the uncomfortable indoor environment, noisy outdoor seating, average chowder, gritty clams, bland broth, cleanliness concerns, and minimal service. I have enjoyed this restaurant more in the past, but after this experience, I think there are other places around Morro Bay where I would rather spend my money.
