Cute town. Typically coastal spot with eclectic-type shops and beautiful water views. The bay makes it special, along with watching the playful seals. We were there on a Thursday evening --not much going on. Quiet. Dorn's was constantly busy but got a table right away. Partial view. It was a 20 min wait for a view, which wasn't bad. Waitress was nice and the drinks were made well. The views are what draws you here. Not necessarily the food. We started with potato leek soup and artichokes but didn't realize the chokes were fried. Missed that on the menu. The soup was flavorful. Definitely on the thicker side, but good. The artichokes were jarred and pickled flavored, which I didn't like. The crust was firm not mushy. But overall, Not what we expected and would not order again. We both ordered the swordfish which was broiled. We liked the flavor and the beans were cooked with a crisp snap to them. Not much on the plate except fish and beans but overall was decent enough. Not a WOW factor but tasty. Simple flavors. read more

This is a Morro Bay staple. The food is good and the service is excellent. We sat outside with a great view of Morro Rock. The only con is have is, the French fries could use some seasoning, they were plain and a little bland. So if you get the fries, be ready to add some salt. read more

So the wife and I visited morrow bay and we decided to stop by for lunch. We both got the zuchini sticks for an appetizer which were nice and crispy. For the main dish we got the Cesar salad with blackened salmon which had fresh lettuce and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Only downside was they ran out of croutons so our salads were incomplete on that end. To drink we got Arnold Palmers which were mixed perfectly and we got a margarita along with a White Russian cocktail drink. Service was great and we loved that it was pet friendly. Our server spent the entire meal either completely missing or socializing with the couple next to us about class schedules at their college. She never brought the bread we asked for or offered refills/second round on drinks. Worst of all, my husband ordered the filet mignon and they served him something that was clearly sirloin. We were in town visiting my grandparents and wanted to go somewhere good for my brother's birthday. They had mentioned Dorn's but were worried we'd have to wait a long time to get a table. We decided to go at 4:30pm but were pleasantly surprised to get a table right away, considering it was a Sunday of a holiday weekend. We were seated at the window which was really nice--the views are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be there through sunset. For food, we were fully obsessed with the warm sourdough bread & butter. Seriously I could have eaten just that. I got a cup of clam chowder because we were told it was legendary and it really was: perfectly creamy and lots of clams. Honestly I should have stopped there, but I was craving fish so went with the halibut, mashed potatoes and veggies. The fish was slightly overcooked and I felt like the mashed potatoes could have been creamier. But all in all it was good and I just think I would go with a different entree next time. read more

Visiting central coast and met some friends at this local favorite. Had clam Chowder full of flavor, chewy clams and potatos. Definitely a house favorite comes with big plate of warm sourdough and lots of butter. Others enjoyed fish and chips which looked perfectly cooked and generous portion. Husband enjoyed pancakes which also looked good. Bowl of chowder was $10 which I thought was very reasonable. Fish and chips were approx $20 Service was good and timely. Would go again read more

I will not be returning. We both ordered tea and by the time we got cream, the tea was cold. One of our meals was served incomplete, and we waited 20 + minutes and the other meal never came out for the other person. So we left the restaurant without eating. Service was terrible. The food was very good, matter of fact we almost went twice on the same day, also, the dinner wait was too long for us. (Good for them). When on Morrow bay, we will definitely be back. We went for breakfast, my wife and I both had the seafood omelet, different style potatoes, she had house, I had hash browns. My daughter had bagel and lox (alot of lox), the cream cheese could have been slightly more., pancakes shared by 3., the jam was awesome chunky with fruit. Wow, we had the most amazing dinner at Dorn's! To begin with the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Next they were quickly able to configure the seating for a party of 7 with an electric wheelchair. Third the food was fantastic and the serving size huge. No one left hungry. The best meal we have had in years. We will be back next year when we visit Morro Bay again. read more

Oh Dorns. Food was not good last night. I ordered the chicken piccata which I have ordered several times before but last night it was so dry and the top of it was like hard crust. Also, I asked what the vegetable was and I was told green beans, but I was not told that the green beans contain mushrooms and I cannot eat mushrooms. Also the salad was overdressed on the bottom so all the lettuce was sopped up and stuck to the plate. It's such a shame because Dorns is always our go to place, but last night, my food was barely edible. Such a shame. read more

Great...service wonderful food...don't know what else to say!! Except that the Caesar salad is to die for!!

I politely requested that my meat be cooked well. I emphasized that this was important to me. I didn't mind the long wait for my food until I saw pink corned beef hash. Obviously, the cook did not read the ticket with the specific well done meat instructions. I immediately told my server who saw that it was pink and took it back. After another long wait and the cold sourdough toast that I wound up eating as an entree while I waited was disappointing. I spoke to the man who seated me. I hope that he was not a manager because he obviously didn't care and shrugged his shoulders when I told him that I was not having a good experience for breakfast. The second one was not good. Meat was obviously pink inside. I paid the check, tipped the waitress and approached the same man dressed in black that it is unfair to spend $30 on breakfast and have a bad experience. Visited here as it was one of the only places open at 745pm for dinner. Had a 25 minute wait as the amount of people coming here was steady. We got an indoor seat along the windows. We got bread, menus and water and then waited 20 minutes to get our order taken. I got my beer and still had to wait to submit our food order. I noticed other people were getting more attentive service around us. We finally got a different waitress, thank goodness, to attend to us and finally ordered our food. Wife ordered the fried prawns which were delicious. The breading was barely tasted and added immensely to the great flavor. I had the Dungeness Crab cocktail which was okay. Thought about returning for breakfast but the evening experience may have put a damper on returning and I wanted to patronize a different restaurant while here. read more

It's a part of Morro Bay's history. The restaurant had a nice interior to compliment the front view of Morro Bay. Food was excellent. Clam chowder is must. It's filling. Second time here! Both times were amazing. This time I had the fish with curry sauce. OMG...the curry was the best. It wasn't spicy. Instead it was yummy, well balanced in flavor and something that I wanted more. My wife ordered the macadamia crusted fish. The fish was soft and tender and well seasoned rhetorical macadamia was fresh and added a wonderful texture. We sat by the window so we had a great view of the main strip and Morro rock. Really enjoy this place - and the views are just magnificent! They have an extensive outdoor dining area where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Morro bay rock and the rest of Morro Bay. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly and hospitable! Their clam chowder is delicious and one of the best I've ever had! The bread and butter is also delicious and comes out nice and warm (just like it's meant to be!). For entrees, we ordered the chicken piccata and the scallop sautee. The chicken was a little overcooked and the scallop sautee was pretty basic, so I'd overall I'd give Dorn's 4 vs 5 stars. We will definitely come back again soon to try more on the menu though so I will report back accordingly. Overall, a great spot to even just grab some drinks and appetizers with friends/family while enjoying the amazing Morro Bay views! read more

This place has a comfortable atmosphere. The service is spirited once you've been noticed though I wonder if there are enough staff. Fish may be ordered blackened, broiled, sautéed and pouched. The meal comes with bread and like the sandwich rolls are under baked. They are in a hurry. The blackened salmon sandwich is good. The grilled vegetables are very good. There were lots of beans more than anything else. The omelet description said ground beef, but it was more onions than anything else. I originally loved this place when I came last year, couldn't wait to come back. Sadly the food was not very enjoyable. The omelette was very thin for the amount of toppings inside and the potatoes didn't taste pan fried like stated they tasted straight boiled. Sourdough toast amazing though. read more
