We are regulars at Dorset Rising for coffee and pastry because we live in the area. The food is wonderful and the coffee is better. That said, Dorset Rising recently began offering pizza for pick-up on Fridays and Saturdays. The pizza is amazing!!! Best pizza we have ever had. The crust was chewy, seasoned perfectly and the toppings we plentiful and delicious. My family was so impressed with the pizza that they asked me to go back the next day and Stock the freezer with the small size version of the pizza that is par baked and only needs 10 minutes to heat from Frozen! Tonight the kids heated up the Buffalo chicken version and they loved it! It is great to have such a great option in Dorset! read more

I decided to try Dorset Rising for lunch because I thought that they might have a connection to a local bakery called Rupert Rising that makes very good bread. Unfortunately this place has no connection to Rupert Rising. The cashier was quite rude and acted like they didn't know what Rupert Rising was. They were probably jealous that their bread wasn't as good as Rupert Rising. I ate here a couple months ago so I don't even remember what I ate. I guess it wasn't anything impressive. read more

I have been to this eatery 8 to 10 times. Nice place, clean with friendly servers. Coffee is very good although on the pricey side of what would be expected. The food however is like a coin toss. It's only good half the time. Even if you order the same item. A complete exercise of inconsistency at best. I still stop by now and then for the few things I know are good. But to be fair, I have a very picky pallet when it comes to cuisine. I leave it for you to judge for yourself. read more

I purchased strawberry oat bars, peppermint mocha latte, and a croissant and chocolate peppermint bark. The bark tasted dry and stale and it was crumbly. The oat bar was ridiculously over sweetened and bland tasting. The latte tasted burned and had a really gross repulsive smell. I would never ever go back here. Very disappointing. I've been here four times and have been disappointed each time. Once was for coffee where they were more interested in discussing the merits of a new employee than making my latte. And then they put it on the side without telling me it had been completed. When I noticed the activity had ceased, I asked them if they were going to make my coffee. They stated it was "over there." Good coffee, but not worth the wait. They seem to have trouble from the kitchen. I got my lunch once and my companion had to wait another twenty minutes for her lunch to come out. This week I ordered the smoked salmon quiche. After waiting a long time, the bring out a small piece of quiche. Way smaller than I would expect for $9.95. I stop in for a cappuccino every now and then and sometimes I go for lunch. The cappuccinos never taste the same. I like mine (wet)...and I dont like the espresso to be 'boiling hot'... some of the 'untrained baristas' know what a 'wet cappuccino' is and some look at me like i have three heads. Service for a cappuccino is pretty slow...and I dont expect Starbucks service but I do expect some sense of urgency. Dorset Rising is not a Starbucks but it could use some Starbucks training. Stopped with a friend after enjoying a day of flower shopping. Pleasant staff, cute atmosphere, nice menu with variety. I ordered the curry chicken salad and my friend ordered a Mediterranean chicken sandwich. Dishes came out promptly and looked tasty, nice salad with a delicious maple balsamic dressing on the side. My chicken curry was so hot (spicy), it really was inedible. It was disappointing as it looked delicious but every bite was so hot I couldn't recover so I stopped eating it. I also found a small bone in the chicken. My friend said hers was delicious. I bought 2 cookies and a biscotti that I ate at home. They were very good, expensive but huge cookies. So I would return but wish the chicken curry was just that and not so spicy it couldn't be eaten- it was like cayenne or chili powder had been dumped into it . 3 Stars is generous for our experience, but this cozy and appealing cafe is loaded with potential. We stopped in for lunch on a busy Sunday (leaf -peepers out en mass). My husband wanted a pannini that came with fresh mozzarella. They were out of fresh mozzarella. So, he decided on the same spinach and cheddar quiche that I ordered. They told us that it is served at room temp and we requested that both pieces be oven heated. They said okay but it would be a wait. Fine. I waited 15 minutes for my Butternut Squash Soup to arrive. 'Had to remind them. It was topped with some shaved fontina and fresh Hen of the Wood mushrooms. Delicious, except that salt to overpowered the squash; I really could not taste the delicate butternut flavor. Also, it was barely hot enough. Then our sever came to tell us that they ran out of quiche. They had one piece left, which I donated to my already disappointed husband.I asked if I could get the (All-day) breakfast sandwich with a scrambled or folded egg...but she said no, they only do over- easy style. REALLY? Feeling pretty full from the soup, I decided to simply have a slice of the Flatbread Pizza we had ordered to take home. The quiche arrived COOL, not warm and certainly not hot. The owner checked on us and we mentioned this and she told us; "that's how the French serve it". Well, we know that's how the French serve it, but WE AMERICANS wanted our quiche slice heated! For $13.30 it was a small portion with a little good salad and two small slices of bread. My warm, not hot flatbread pizza slice was very disappointing - flavorless with skimpy topping. It was mostly crispy flatbread - for $12.95. A restaurant should not be running out of mozzarella and quiche at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon on a busy weekend. What gives? Lack of prep? Lack of caring? The baked goods and breads look tasty. However, I was disappointed in the brownie that I brought home. 'Not chocolaty enough - and no walnuts. Service and kitchen staff need more training...but I think that with a little effort this could be a real find.They have a terrific selection of local beers and wines by the glass. 'Love the private booths that seat four and 6 comfortably. 'Wish they would offer hot dishes like Shepard's Pie (for hubby), and interesting versions of Mac n' Cheese, and some pasta specials. I was here with my husband the other week while on vacation doing some leaf spotting in VT. Natasha at Dorset Rising made our wedding cake and it was absolutely perfect! She was wonderful to work with from the beginning. She happily had us in for a second tasting when we wanted to combine a couple of the flavors we tasted the first time, and made us a unique combination of carrot cake with cardamom buttercream with just a small layer of apricot jam to give it the tartness it was missing without the cream cheese frosting. Even though she had a lot going on in the bakery and with other weddings she spent plenty of time with us making sure we got personalized attention. I love this place! Lemon cake with lemon curd filling = delicious and addictive. German Chocolate cake = i never got to taste it because my guests ate every crumb. The breads are unremarkable and much better at the bakeries sold at the Dorset Market. Mother Myricks, and Second Rising. The lunch menu is outrageously expensive (over 12 bucks for a sandwich) and the food was simply awful tasting. Salad (lettuice and crutons, 8 bucks) was a ripoff. The menu is limited and one order came back saying they were out of what I wished to order--and couldnt refund my money. The help is rather rude on top of this. Had an overall disappointing experience. We ordered macchiatos and couldn't drink it. Espresso was very weak and underextracted; tasted like coffee water topped with a mountain of foam (supposed to be just a dollop). We also ordered breakfast sandwiches on sourdough bread and a bagel.
