My go to favorite is the Salmon Spinach Salad with a generous piece of grilled salmon over a bed of fresh spinach tossed with cashews, jicama, mango in a delicious tangy dressing! The self serve salsa and drink bar offer a great variety to choose from. Tip: You can get free basket of chips but you need to ask! My one negative about this location is that the tables are so close together and the seating outside of the cafe is so inviting, yet clearing them for customer dining is not the Cafe's responsibility, as I was told when asked, but the Arden Fair mall custodians. read more

I love how in each order you get complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are delicious, not too heavy and seasoned well. They are light and crispy, almost to the point where they are addicting. The salsa bar has all your different packs of heat (and it's self serve). My order from Dos Coyotes is usually the Border Burrito or a custom burrito bowl. The carne Asada as the meat compliments the bowl or the burrito well. Service: This particular Dos is inside the movie theater/mall. I come here during some of my lunch breaks and it is never too packed but regardless of the time, the service is always great! Whether you order dine in or to go the food is always brought out to you. Ambiance: I love how they make the inside feel like it's a party. All the different colors and representation of a desert is cool to look at. The place does have more character than a Chipotle which I admire. If I could give this place a negative 5 stars, I would do so. I wouldn't give that rating for the food in itself but, for the blatant disregard of the health code and for the disrespectful staff working there. I walked into Dos Coyotes at Arden Mall earlier today at around 3:15 PM and the first thing I saw was a woman, whom I'll leave nameless, sit her disgusting purse on the cutting board/surface where food is to be prepared. My grandmother and I immediately asked the young man standing at the register about why she had her purse, that had been outside and in bathrooms I'm sure, sitting on a surface that was made for food preparation? And why was she preparing food right next to it with her bare hands? Why didn't she wash her hands when she had just come in from outside? We had so many questions. He looked back at her but he didn't look surprised to see the purse there so we wondered if this was the norm for them. We wondered what other health codes had been violated and why he was so relaxed about it. We didn't expect him to scream at her or anything but, to move with a better sense of urgency when he approached her with the matter. He said nonchalantly "oh we can wipe that off." And left. When he whispered to her that she needed to remove her purse, he then walked her to the back and as she was speaking to him, he started to laugh. The woman then stormed back out and started speaking to another worker in Spanish (I guess thinking that we didn't understand because we look black) and both he and another worker stopped and stared at my grandmother and I. I looked at her, looked at the worker on her break that was sitting there watching everything go down and laughing and then I told her that I understood exactly what she said and that I sure did tell him that her purse was nasty and that it shouldn't have been there and asked her if she had a thing else to say. She fell quiet. At this point, we had decided to eat elsewhere and never return. As we were leaving, she said "it's just a purse" and something else that wasn't very clear so, my grandmother asked to speak to the manager because she was highly offended and the man we spoke to in the beginning came back out claiming that he was the manager. My grandmother then said "well we will call customer service because there is no reason to talk to you. You think it's funny" and we left. Again, as we started to leave, I turned back to see the workers all standing there laughing and talking like we had just done a stand up comedy show or something. Like making people sick because they can't follow simple health regulations was hilarious. Best salsa I've ever had is at Dos Coyotes! I've you've never tried the green tomatillo salsa here, you MUST! It's deliciously sweet and tomatillo-y! I dump it on everything I eat at Dos Coyotes. My family and I have been coming here for years and I don't think we've ever had a poor experience. The service is always friendly, quick and efficient. Food is always brought to the table promptly. My favorite things on the menu are the nachos and anything with shrimp! -nachos: topped with tons of goodies, and HUGE portions with freshly made chips -shrimp tacos: delicious and sweet on yummy corn tortillas -shrimp burrito: succulent shrimp mixed with home made salsa and signature white seafood sauce (I always ask for extra to dip chips in) I really like coming to Dos Coyotes! As a Dos Coyotes fan, I thoroughly enjoyed finding this smaller, less crowded spot hidden away in the food court at Arden Fair Mall. I've visited the aforementioned East Sac restaurant and the one in Folsom. Both have lines out the door at the peak of lunch time. Here, I walked right up to the counter and my order came out right away. I went with my go-to, the Yucatan Chicken Salad, which is a massive salad on top of a flour tortilla complete with black beans and a tasty mango salsa. It's probably way bigger than it needs to be. Been coming here since I was a kid around 1996 and have made it my "must visit" every time I visit family since I moved away because of the good food and good service... but ever since the pandemic closure, the Arden location has been disappointing. Our most recent visit to the restaurant greeted us with an empty food court; as in... there's maybe 3 open establishments + a book store. The food itself was a disappointment as they served very soggy/stale/oily chips, mixed up our burrito orders which they rectified by remaking our orders in a haphazard way resulting in little filling, oily tortilla, and more stale chips (they ended up throwing away my better looking, untouched burrito which I would have gladly paid extra for)... The nacho dish we ordered was flat and sparse of meat and cheese and no longer included pico on the dish (granted, the salsa bar is still around). I know times have changed, but this was just... sad. One extra star because this place has been part of my childhood... Perhaps we'll meet again in the future, Arden Fair. read more

The prices are reasonable and they give you a lot of food. I was looking at the salads because they were on a ginormous tortilla, but decided on the nachos. They were great and I had great left overs. They were around $8.50 for the ones with pulled pork. There was a lot of sour cream, guacamole, refried beans and pulled pork. The nachos were a dark color and all of them were covered with something. The water dispenser was the traditional clay pot. I think the clay makes the water taste better and the soda machine is the one you can mix and match. I will try them out again, but we had to ask for complimentary chips instead of being offered. Love their all you can drink machine. It pours out all different flavors, fizzy or no fizz and all different calorie count. You can get soda with fizz or vitamin water. It also spews out ice. The food is ok. They don't give you enough dressing, but you can buy more. I think that's a bit odd. You can help yourself to salsa but not salad dressing. I need to point out that their chicken is marinated and then grilled so the meat is very tender and juicy with hints of the charbroil effects. The Border Burrito comes stuffed with cheese, guacamole, black beans, rice, and sour cream. I then usually load it with the different types of salsa available from their salsa bar. Not only is the burrito huge, but biting into it is a tremendous feat, so I usually utilize a fork and knife. The entire consumption is absolutely heavenly, especially when starved for a filling meal. My sister usually chooses the Adobe salad. This salad is large: cover a large plate, heaping with green lettuce (not the cheap iceberg kind), corn, jicama slices, red onion slices, beans, cheese, and guacamole (which my sis usually bypasses) tosses in a light vinaigrette. I would usually request extra dressing because sometimes there is not enough. Add the fresh chips and fresh salsa, and the meal is cheap. Service was awesome, especially from the young lady who brought our food to the table. The Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos I ordered were well-seasoned and cooked perfectly topped with fresh vegetables. Inside was a pretty good size salmon that was marinated and charbroiled with cheese, guacamole, rice, salsa, and white sauce. It was delicious. The salmon that I had was moist and succulent. Not bad for it being a first time in a long while. What was great about ordering a burrito at Dos Coyotes was serving a side of chips. The uniqueness about the chips at Dos Coyotes is that its razor thin and crunchy. Also, personally, I like to have my chips with the green tomatillo salsa. The waitress, Kelly, was extremely rude and would not add extra rice in place of the beans to my order. She told me it would cost an extra $2 for the substitution even though I politely informed her that rice was already part of the entree and she refused me once again. I have never had this issue happen to me before at any of the other restaurants. As you can see from the photo I added, my bowl was extremely small and there wasn't much food at all. I came here with my boyfriend after work on a Friday and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The customer service and the food were spot on. I ordered the Navajo nachos with steak and my boyfriend ordered the border burrito with pulled pork. The lady that took our order was very knowledgeable on the ingredients in the food and was extremely accommodating to my boyfriend's distaste to onions. When my boyfriend asked about what was in the burrito, she gave him a sample of the rice to make sure he would be ok with it inside the burrito (the rice had grilled onions mixed in it). This definitely helped him feel confident that he was ordering something he could enjoy. Thumbs up for that! We got our water, utensils and salsa, then sat down and didn't wait too long for our food to be delivered to us. Both plates came out hot and delicious! This place started from back in the haydays with only this and 2 other Davis locations. Now, they have locations also in Roseville, Folsom, Elk Grove, and East Sacramento. As for this location, it's a bit hard to find parking because its stuck in the same place with a movie theatre. Once you are inside, the seating is placed diagonally tightly so walking around back to your table gets difficult. They were busy here, after we've found a table, it took them 5 minutes to clean up. As to what I ordered, I got the chicken border burrito. It is stuffed with chicken, cheese, guacamole, salsa, a LOT of black beans, rice, and a LOT of sour cream. For $6.75, it is a great value but for me it lacked taste because all I could taste is the beans and sour cream. So I topped it with salsas from the salsa bar. They have 2 mild, 2 medium, and 2 hot salsas. For me, it also didn't taste fresh and it wasn't hot enough. My coworker, Heather, has been raving about the 'Shrimp Burrito' for the past week; so for lunch, I decided to give it a shot. I walked over there from work around 5:30pm, and it was not busy. My boyfriend and I originally went to the plaza for Pluto's, but after seeing that Dos Coyotes' seasonal menu had gumbo, we decided to try this place. We both like gumbo, so we had some standards that this gumbo needed to pass. I've never tried Dos Coyotes because it never really sounded appetizing. I should have followed prior encounters. The gumbo tasted like Progresso. It really could have been from a can, and they were selling it for $9 with a measly spinach quesadilla. But since we were hungry, we just ate it. It wasn't TOO bad, but for a restaurant charging about $10 for it, it was disappointing. If you want gumbo, go to a place that specializes in gumbo, like a New Orleans restaurant. That was our fault. Dos Coyotes should stick to...whatever they do. Mexican? American? Not sure what they actually do, but stick to that. Food is really good but do you see the amount of sour cream you get for a burrito. Is it that expensive that you cant afford to add a little more? I love the food so I will continue to eat there I just wish that when they say their is sour cream in the burrito you would actually be able to see and taste it. BTW they will not sub more sour cream if you don't want guacamole. I think that's kinda silly but hey who am I. The people that work here for the most part are friendly but they always look as if they dread working here no smiles or anything. Really sad. read more
