We loved our first visit to Dosalas. Upscale eatery on the waterfront with great views and ambiance. Small plates are a little pricey but very good. My wife and I shared the paella for two which included lobster, shrimp and a couple of different mussels. Rice was done perfectly and the spice was nicely balanced. Plenty of food for the two of us and we didn't have room for dessert. Service was spot on, attentive but not hovering. Food came out very quickly, probably because we were there just after 4 PM. We sat outside on a lovely Friday afternoon but probably got there too early as there were few customers to dilute the over-attention of the 4 energetic workers who tried desperately to upsell us. We were there at 1:00 for a light lunch and didn't care to drink much. If you are going to charge as if the intention is to keep the riff-raff out the service better fit a wealthy clientele and not badger them to buy more food and drinks. The food was unremarkable. The DoSalas Latin Bisque was disappointing, with surprisingly chewy chicken in a thin soup that had a main note of bbq sauce. I thought they might be working out the kinks as a new business, but they opened 10 months ago. The setting is very nice, but I have to wonder if the nut is just too much to cover, or if a new manager is pressuring servers and plying them with Redbull or something. If you are going to charge $11 for a small plate of carrots, I suggest the proprietors visit Canlis in Seattle to witness how they let the wealthy exist in peace. read more

I have been to Dosalas twice now and have been continually impressed by the ambiance/atmosphere and beautifully plated food that we received. Service was slow the last time we went as the bartender unfortunately didn't put our drink order in. However - we were given 2 complimentary flutes of the house tequila to make up for the mistake. Every time we go my boyfriend and I get the paella for 2 (pictured). It is savory with excellent flavors, fresh ingredients, and a perfect serving size for two people. I recommend Dosalas for a special occasion as it is on the pricier end, but you do get what you pay for. Glad to have them at the waterfront for a dressier and fancier option. Disclaimer: last time we went, I observed many guests that were coming in and/or leaving the restaurant not wearing masks. I did not notice staff not masked, but if you are COVID-conscious I would not recommend this restaurant during the omicron and delta spikes. read more

Came in for a birthday occasion at about 7 pm and was disappointed because their tomahawk and pork chops was sold out ended up ordering the filet mignon medium well done When we got our food the steak was undercooked and the mash potatoes was too watery and so as the salad under seasoned and watery ended up throwing half the food away. Atmosphere was the only plus in our experience. Let me preface this with: I dont mind paying short of $200 for dinner for two, but when you do charge that much, quality is mandatory. I also have years of chef experience specifically with seafood. Drinks were unremarkable but far from the price point charged. We ordered the Sofrito Seafood Scampi for two and it was what you would expect from Applebees. The grilled lobster was small and way over cooked. Menu noted "Colossal" scallops that were maybe "large" on the scale, and that is being generous. The four shrimp were 40 count and rubberized. Fingerling potatoes and cauliflower were very over cooked and reduced down to shriveled wood like pieces. The andouille sausage was so small and over cooked we had to have a discussion whether it was meat. All this in a poor presentation and a $99 price tag. Again, if I was at Applebees and paying $29 I would be fine, but $100 requires a higher level of quality. I could understand a bad chef in the back but bargain basement ingridients are not acceptable. . They are trying to be a higher end establishment but their food does not represent such. To top it iff the service was very slow for a Wednesday evening and numerous tables open. read more

Modern spot with great vibes! We were able to make reservations over the weekend. Once we arrived, we checked in with the host and waited for our table to open up. When our table was ready, a host led us upstairs to our table. Our server was very attentive and made sure that we were taken care of by periodically checking in. We ordered the Froze, moscowlito mule, a glass of sparkling rose, short rib empanadas, Dungeness crab toast, and Mexican street corn. The food was great and I would say that the drinks are even greater! Dosalas is a great establish that overlooks the Vancouver waterfront, has great food and drinks, plays great music, and has decorative interior that are great for photo ops! There are definitely some positives, but unfortunately the negatives ruined our experience. My husband wanted to take me to a nice dinner out for a "date" night, but we got less than expected service and mediocre food. Our waitress was pleasant and she took our drink and appetizer order quickly upon being seated, but took a fairly long time to return to take our entree order. When the food did come, only my plate came and the food runner hightailed it away from our table without mentioning when we might expect my husband's dinner. After about 5 minutes of waiting (since when we go to a nice restaurant it is customary for us to eat together) my husband flagged down the food runner to ask about his dinner. When asked where our other entree was, the runner replied with a bit of an attitude that he was only a food runner and would go check. The food appeared about 2 minutes later but was luke warm as if it had been sitting in the window for that entire 7 minutes. Our entrees were also disappointing. The skin on the Yucatán Chicken was rubbery and my ribs were tough and chewy. We are not planning to return for dinner and instead will probably return at some point for drinks and maybe small plates since the drinks are beautiful and delicious and the decor and view are amazing. read more

I was so excited to try a new place. The ambience, decor, and the look of this restaurant is gorgeous. I love the chandeliers every detail had thought put in it. Don't waste your time on the Caesar salad. The drinks were pretty cool and sophisticated however my drink was not worth $22. Our food came out before our drinks. The food is so expensive and it does not match the flavor of the food. $175 for a steak? And if you're vegan forget it. Several bus boys came to our table to remove dishes and we weren't even done. They told us to get 3 to 4 dishes per person there was two of us and we ordered four Which was plenty. There's no room on a two top table if you order four dishes. read more

Flawless experience and some of the best food I've had in Portland, let alone Vancouver. I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing view, I had not realized it was on the 2nd floor over Wildfin. Don't worry, there is an easy elevator up. My group can't do stairs. We asked for small plate suggestions from our server and were blown away by the recommended cauliflower and the crispy ribs - soooo good. I also had the salmon, which was amazing. The quinoa was done almost rissoto style and was so flavorful with a little surprise of whole almonds. Everything at the table was very good, not one complaint or regret. Drinks are pricey but good, and ours came so fast that I made a comment to my group. The restaurant gave me a really nice dessert for my bday too. read more

My wife planned a surprise anniversary dinner tonight and what was supposed be a special, memorable night turned out to be a night out in hell. What a shame and embarrassment for a place that tries so hard in aesthetics but falls short in value, quality and customer service -- the things that truly matter in a restaurant. 1. We arrived about 45 mins early before our 7pm reservation to grab some cocktails at the bar and were seated at the outside patio. 20 mins past 7pm and after consecutive inquiries with different staff that walked by, we were still waiting to be seated for our anniversary dinner. 2. Finally, a host came out to apologize about the delay and proceeded to escort us to a small table across the bar inside. Right away, we politely reminded the staff that we had a dinner reservation and that we wanted to get seated somewhere else away from the bar. The server objected and walked away for several minutes. She came back finally and once again, apologized about the mix up and let us know they finally arranged for a more spacious, appropriate dining table for us. This was already about 45 minutes past our 7pm reservation. 3. Who knew things could get even worse? As soon as we were seated, a server named Allison introduced herself and an assistant she was training, and proceeded to tell my wife and I, "hello and welcome, ladies, how are you?" Shocked and annoyed, I turned to the server and told her who I was and that she should not make assumptions based on people's appearances. I could not believe how incompetent this server was especially working in a culturally specific restaurant. 4. By the time our dishes arrived to our table (pork belly, short rib, tortilla soup, ancho rubbed salmon and two cocktails), what was supposed to be a fun, memorable evening was already negative and frustrating. The food was bland, some dishes including the soup arrived cold, and just like many other reviews have indicated, the prices were excessively overpriced. Bottom line: I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. This place lacks professionalism and customer service, competent staff, culturally responsive and respectful servers, and overall quality and value. There is so much detail throughout this restaurant, it embodies the essence of class. Each drink has beautiful presentation, the old fashioned comes in a smoked glass case. The food is family style, so small shareable plates that keep you coming back for more! The fried short ribs were my favorite, I've never had anything like it. Then we requested the blinds to go up since all the tables wanted the same thing, manager came out and said everybody wanted them closed very rudely. We were pretty skeptical about this place, but wanted to give it a try. Before you see the 2 stars, I do have to mention the Seafood Paella is delicious and the grilled octopus is amazing. We also had a hamachi crudo, I had a bone in one of my pieces so it wasn't cleaned properly. --- It was all booked up when we came, but the front host said she can seat us if we choose to stay at a maximum of an hour. I was reluctant but we rushed up anyways because we really wanted to try the food. We got two drinks, can't quite remember what they were, but I had a pretty nice Old Fashioned come out in a presentable smoke box and she got a variant of a tequila sunrise. What we ordered: 2 cocktails, Seafood paella, Grilled Octopus, Hamachi Crudo. Total bill, roughly $180. I felt that if they knocked down each entree by $5-8 bucks, I'd be a bit happier. Obviously I couldn't have my full dining experience as I was kind of being rushed, but our food came out quickly and we were able to finish in time before the reserved table guests came along. Here's my absolute take: it's overpriced for Vancouver. I've lived in LA for a long time, I've spent a lot and a little at different restaurants all across the country and I can't find any reason to justify the pricing. I'll admit, it must be to cover the cost of the extravagant decor (which also looks really nice.) The views are really nice within the restaurant and the overlook onto the Columbia is amazing, but why pay wholly for that experience? I think my biggest qualm was when I inquired about the Tesla Tequila shots ($300 per shot). I told the waitress I had two bottles at home that retailed for about $250 each. She said, "There's no way our owner would charge $300, it must be the "Extra Anejo" version of Tesla Tequila. Right....unfortunately, The "Extra Anejo" version of Tesla Tequila doesn't exist. But once I saw a cocktail for $30 I was like honey I'm from chicago and even we aren't that nuts (most of the time) The tuna tostadas were awesome and honestly the salmon was great too. The octopus you can skip- I love grilled octopus but this was not as buttery and soft as I've had. The tempura cauliflower was also tasty! I'd get those three and share. Overall fun- but a weee too pricey for the quality. If you're looking to splurge for a bday or date night, I'd say go for it read more

The lab was under seasoned and though was cooked medium rare you couldn't tell the difference between the cooked and rare parts of the lamb, which means the racks were not fresh. Just offer a meal not your overpriced "small plate" Stuff people go to dinner to eat dinner not snack on overpriced cheap food served every 45 minutes. Went to DOSALAS Latin kitchen + tequila bar last night for dinner. The tuna tostada appetizer was a small portion, and a little salty. Flavorful but lost the main ingredient in everything else. Could be saved if they added thicker chucks of tuna. The saving Grace was the seafood paella! The paella and all the seafood was cooked perfectly and had great full flavors. We ended with the cheesecake which was also very nice. Overall would definitely go back. So many other dishes I would like to try on their menu. Plus amazing decor and atmosphere. read more

One of our favorite restaurants over the years was Toro Bravo in Portland. We loved the tapas style dishes and would typically order several, happy to spend the kind of money for a great meal, When they closed permanently last year, we were sad. I first heard about Dos Alas last week and after reading the rave reviews and seeing the style of food, I was super excited to make a reservation! Making reservations 4 days in advance, we had the option of 415 or 845 for dinner on a Sunday night. 415 it was!! As we waited in the entry, lots of people coming into the restaurant. Everyone dressed nicely except for a pair of women in workout leggings, Nikes and hoodies. They definitely looked out of place. Most had reservations but a few walk-ins turned away. We were taken to our seats, and you can tell they were still figuring things out (being a new restaurant). The person seating was directed to set us at a high table but... I'm currently in a wheelchair so that wouldn't work =) We started with drinks and they are expensive!! Cocktails all listed at $20-$24 a piece. They had some punch bowls designed for 2 people, priced at $40 each, My husband got a standard margarita, nothing fancy, and it was $15! Any other bar this should have been $5-$8. If you have not been to this kind of restaurant before, it's typical to order throughout the meal and each person will generally order 2-3 dishes each. The food is delivered to your table as soon as its ready, Everything is then shared family style. The server will also let you know this. To start, our food order was Brazilian cheese bread, short rib empanadas, street corn and pork belly skewers. The cheese bread was jealous but as I bit into it, liquid came out onto my plate and my shirt. I am not sure if it was oil from the deep fry or from the garlic butter. The price for the bread was also high I thought. $8 for four pieces of bread, each about the size of a donut hole. The empanadas were really tasty but the filling was barely warm. Since they were served to us as soon as they were ready, I would have thought they would be hotter. The street corn was tasty but I am a spice wuss. I can't handle hot/spicy foods so could only eat 2 forkfuls. My husband gladly ate the rest. I was really looking forward to the pork belly but this dish didn't have a lot of flavor. It was sweet with the sauce but the pork itself was mediocre, We also ordered the lamb chops which I really liked, but I did not feel it was a $22 dish. Overall, I felt the prices were too high for the food served, I don't mind a high dollar meal if the food measures up. This meal did not We spent just under $100 ($97) and we left hungry. I could have ordered more food but I wasn't willing to spend more money there. (I went home and had a 50 cent can of tomato soup and it was more satisfying.) Dos Alas seems like it's just trying too hard. It's following the trend of the overpriced restaurants on the waterfront, but based on other reviews, people are gladly paying these prices! I absolutely love this tequila restaurant, The food is always beyond my expectations. The salmon caesar salad is one of my favorite things on the menu ( The salmon & lettuce & so fresh it's not like your typical salad) along with the elote appetizer. The drinks are a little on the spendy side but it is sooo worth it ( drink with caution ). The view is both beautiful during the day & night so try to get a seat by the window. A meal for 2 can easily cost you $100+ definitely more if you get more than 2 drinks. Overall it's definitely worth going to if you want to have a nice night out read more
