Our favorite bar in the U.S.! We come every single time we come to New York and plan to continue doing so. The food, drinks, vibes, and ambiance are always 10/10. For drinks, we previously tried key lime pie, Japanese cold noodle, cold pizza, dorayaki. This time, we opted for the mocktail version of key lime pie, Thai curry, and custard bun. The mocktail version of key lime pie was good, but there was a little hint of cinnamon? Still our fave. Thai curry was definitely interesting to try...! We really enjoyed the custard bun which definitely tasted exactly as expected. Salted egg yolk flavor was on point and not gritty. For food, we got a hot honey chicken sandwich, and a tofu sandwich. Both sandwiches had immaculate flavor and are a must-order for us every time. The chicken was not dry at all and the tofu was seasoned perfectly. Our server was very nice and friendly. Overall experience was great. Can't wait to be back!
Got in line at 4:45pm on a Tuesday, 15min before opening and there was ~8 people in front of me. It's not thaaaat hard to get in. If you have the choice to, go to the Coop in the back. The bar vibe is fantastic. Decor is interesting. When we left at ~6:15 there were only 2 people outside waiting so still doable. The drinks are definitely the star. We got the Japanese cold noodles and melon prosciutto. THOUGH I swear the Japanese Cold Noodles drink messed up my taste buds because the chicken sandwich tastes bland which I know it wasn't because I had leftovers later. So something to think about. If you're debating between the chicken sandwiches, I think the mochi one is the best because of the flavor profile, especially with the pickled pineapple. Took off a star bc I think all the buzz overhyped it for me. But still solid. Enjoy!
Double Chicken Please was highly recommended by friends (and the Internet), and it definitely didn't disappoint. If you love a unique and eccentric themed cocktail, this place is for you. There are two separate sections that make up Double Chicken Please. "Free Range" is the one located in the front, and has a more casual vibe and straightforward drink menu, while "The Coop" is located the back, and has a more whimsical, culinary-themed drink menu. My boyfriend and I tried both sections on different nights, and we agree that the offerings of The Coop were more to our taste. During our experience at The Coop, the service was quick, attentive, and friendly. We ordered the Melon Prosciutto and the Custard Bun cocktails. I'm not sure how they did it, but both drinks captured the essence of their namesakes exactly. Even the lingering aftertaste of the Custard Bun was reminiscent of the lactic aftertaste one would normally experience after eating an actual custard bun. The drinks were fun and inventive, and we enjoyed both so much to the point that we contemplated ordering another round of cocktails just to see what else they could come up with. (We ended up refraining, but we definitely have some on our list to try next time). We didn't enjoy our experience as much at the Free Range section, as it was a little difficult to get the attention of the servers so that we could order. I believe that's attributable to the nature of the Free Range section in general -- it's supposed to be more casual and pub-like, and it was pretty busy on the night we went. We ordered the Double Bubble and Space Dog cocktails, and while they were fun (the Double Bubble in particular; it was made to look like a glass of boba milk tea), the flavors weren't as on-the-mark as the drinks at The Coop were. The food menu was the same for both Free Range and The Coop. We ordered the lobster shiso tempura and the popcorn chicken. The lobster shiso tempura was so flavorful, especially when dipped into the accompanying ponzu butter -- so sweet in the way that great seafood is, with a little acidity from the ponzu to even out the richness of the butter. This was so good that we ordered it both nights. The popcorn chicken was also very good and was served in a red and white striped cardboard container, reminiscent of old-timey movie popcorn packaging. We loved the Thai basil aioli it was served with -- I don't think either of us have ever experienced that flavor in that format before, so it was quite memorable. We definitely recommend cocktail connoisseurs and novices alike to check out Double Chicken Please -- there's something for everyone.
Very cool experience and i'd like to think our party enjoyed vibes. Got reservations in advance, which made seating a party of 5 a bit more manageable. The drinks are certainly unique and will throw you in a loop if you're use to overly sweetened drinks. From pizza to fish sauce, it would be hard to replicate this elsewhere. The food was also a standout. We tried two chicken sandwiches and enjoyed the normal one the most. While the strawberry mochi donut was a extravagant idea and tasted fine, it might've been too unique for our palate. Overall, would recommend folks to get a reservation and try their unique items. They have regular cocktails that you often see at other places, but you can literally get those there, but you won't find mango sticky rice or fish sauce cocktail in most, or if any.
This place has a nice bar vibe for the lower east side, but the music is a bit too loud to have a long conversation. The music volume and the reservation/waitist process brings the rating down from 5 stars. The food is pretty good, definitely above average, but the items that are not chicken sandwiches are really small like the lobster tempura. Though it was unique, it was literally 1 bite per person. The hot honey chicken sandwich was very good and had a nice deep flavor and just enough spicy to keep things interesting, but still keep going back for more bites. I would probably ignore some of the starters if you don't want to overspend on super tiny small bites. I might go back if they turn the volume a little lower and if I really want another chicken sandwich.
DCP was such a fun experience! We had a reservation for 2 at 9:30pm, but after checking in with the hostess around 5pm, they were incredibly accommodating and helped us add 5 more people to our party. The menu has such unique and savory cocktails, and the food was delicious and hearty. The cold pizza was my favorite--light, tomatoey, and refreshing. The mango sticky rice was the one miss for me; the mango and coconut rice flavors didn't quite come through. A great spot for creative food and drinks with a group!
The drinks here are amazing and so creative! I've been wanting to come here for a while and I've heard only good things. I ordered the key lime pie drink which was delicious. It was made so well and probably one of the best cocktails I've had. Other drink items are unique and based on different foods. I've heard cold pizza is another favorite that I didn't get to try. We also got the popcorn chicken and mochi donut chicken sandwich. The popcorn chicken was good and a light snack option to share with our group of 6. The mochi donut sandwich was an interesting pairing but it worked well. The donut itself was very soft. Overall it was a fun experience!
This place is pretty popular. Reservation is in-person and it can get packed. I would arrive 15-30 mins prior to opening to either set a reservation for a party or walk in. Reservations will typically take 2hrs to be honored. We placed the reservation a little after 5PM and were seated at 7PM. Pretty cool when you enter. There's a front and a back that have different menus. We sat in back (the coop). Cocktail bar themed. Dimly lit, gentle hum of conversation drowned out by chill background music, clean-appearing, esoteric chicken art line the walls. Accents of neon and wood, no off smells. My argument is that the primary reason to come here is for the drinks. We started off with the Whaldorf salad, cold pizza, key lime pie, and papaya salad. Whaldorf salad was herbal with strong notes of vegetable. Almost like one of those power smoothies. It tasted very clean. It wasn't quite as aesthetic as the other drinks as it is more true to a traditional cocktail aesthetically but it was one of our favorites. Key lime pie tastes almost exactly like a key lime pie. Super sweet with a delicious citrusy flavor. A bit viscous as if you're getting through the filling on a pie. Heavily suggest this drink as one of your desserts. Cold pizza had a similar viscosity with an egg white emulsion infused with basil aromatics. Tastes like you're eating a greasy high-quality New York slice every time you take a sip. Certainly, less heavy than a New York slice which makes it go down pretty easy. Very novel experience. Papaya salad was less-potent in flavor. A quick whif will give provide a very gentle fish sauce flavor. I might prefer it to have a spicier finish or some peppers. If I went back, I might suggest that. I will say it is pretty aesthetic with the par-boiled tomato on top of the ice cube. One of our less-favorite items although it is pretty simple and still quite good. It is difficult to taste the Bombay Sapphire. Dorayaki was one of my favorites although the rest of the squad didn't appreciate it quite as much. It is in the dessert section although I appreciated more savory flavors. There's a pastry with savory whipped mushroom cream filling inside. You take a bite of that and drink the cocktail. There are some caramel notes that I appreciated but it felt like I was drinking a hearty brothy soup. Japanese cold noodle soup and the melon prosciutto were alright. I think they were on the sweeter side so I didn't really drink them quite as much and have less to say about them. Of the foods, the chicken sandwiches were pretty good. The hot honey sandwich didn't have a dominant hot honey flavor. The pesto flavors came through stronger. I'd try this if I were getting a chicken item. The salted egg yolk sandwich had that iconic egg yolk texture to it. I appreciated the previous sandwich a bit more. The star of the show for me was the "grilled cheese." A superior toasted and seeded roll with a molten mild white cheese oozing in the center. Charred bits of cheese line the roll. Bolognese sauce is present underneath the cheese. Super duper filling and neat. Comes with those peppercinis to add a hit of heat and sour if you need it with the richness of the sandwich. Overall, I'm giving this place a 5 for the novelty of the experience. It's a bit costly. The food is decent but the drinks are excellent for value. I would say this is a great place to bring people before a night out or if somebody's visiting the city.
Totally worth the hype!! Make sure to get to the back of the bar, where they make food-inspired drinks. Absolutely love that they are so on brand. Our party got a little confused about the menu, whether it was actual food or drinks haha. Highly recommend making a reservation, since they get crowded really easily and space is somewhat limited. I got to try a bit of everyone's drinks, and my favorites were the Japanese cold noodle, key lime pie, and cold pizza. Each of the drinks really surprised me on how well they tasted like the actual food, you'll just have to taste them for yourself! We also got popcorn chicken to share, which was also delicious but would probably skip on the sauces next time. Some of us got chicken sandwiches that were also huge! DCP is not just a cocktail bar, it's an experience. Definitely give it a visit and you'll be wowed!
Food: 3.8/5 Drinks: 4.6/5 Service: 3.7/5 We joined the line yesterday at like 453pm and then we were at the front of the line by 510pm just after they opened. They took our names down and found us a table for 3 at the Coop. We were told it would be a tight fit, but it was perfectly comfortable. We had our drinks order ready but the service was a bit slow (more on that later). The servers were super nice and tried to explain us everything as we said we hadn't been there before. But it was too loud to hear anything. The backroom vibe is great incl the lighting (perfect for a date) but the volume should be turned down a bit, as you can't hear the person sitting next to you, let alone in front of you. We ordered the popcorn chicken, the salt egg yolk sandwich, the stuffed chicken wing with the thai basil aioli. The popcorn was 10/10 no notes. The portion was huge for the $13. The sandwich was forgettable unfortunately. It was also messy/hard to eat and they don't give you a plate in case we wanted to share. The stuffed wing was 8/10. The concept was unique and the first bite is phenomenal but once you've had that stuffed rice, there is nothing else you'd enjoy about it (salt lacking in the rest of it). A crispy exterior would've brought it to a 10. Now the drinks, the reason why we were there. I ordered all the fan faves and my friends ordered the rest. We ordered: 1. Japanese cold noodle: the best drink of the night imho. perfectly balanced. 2. Melon prosciutto: yes and yes - refreshing. 3. Papaya salad: the tomato can be messy to eat - beware. But a strong drink with a fun finish. 4. Cold pizza: 2nd fav drink. The parm flavor was a bit lacking for me, but I think it was a great concept especially with tequila. The craft is unreal. 5. Red eye gravy: very interesting list of ingredients, and refined but the actual garnish didn't entirely match the experience. 6. Mango sticky rice: missing the mango but a nice drink. 7. French toast: yummy. Doesn't feel like you're having a cocktail and that is the point I think? Overall, verdict is we would go back to try the rest of the drinks only. We would visit the backroom probably and would definitely take the service with a grain of salt. We waited an avg of 20 mins per drink, and not everyone on the table got their drinks together. We also had to flag down our server each time to order another round (after the drinks were finished and cleared out). So for a 90-min seating you can imagine how hard it was for us to do the damage we did - only because I was dedicated enough to want to experience as much of their menu. I had been wanting to visit them for a few years now. EDIT: I am having trouble posting pics. But took a bunch and would love to share if anyone wants to see the drinks!
The vibe of this place is so chill. The music in the background is great but not too loud so you can chat with your friends. It was dark inside but in a cool way and there was enough lightning for you to see. Our server was so attentive and we got our drinks fairly quickly. I had the mango sticky rice which was sweet but went down pretty smooth. My friends had the Thai curry and the melon prosciutto. Out of the three we'd probably put the Thai curry at the bottom. I personally didn't like my friend's melon prosciutto but my friend loved it because it wasn't so sweet. The Thai curry had a cute popsicle but that's about it tbh. I would definitely go again though there's so many other drinks I'd want to try.
Deliiiicious savory cocktails!! Definitely line up at least 30-60min before opening time to snag a walk in spot since resys are suuuuuper hard to get. Ambiance was cozy n intimate and the drinks were so unique. Tasted exactly like pizza! Food wasn't too memorable though. Great presentation!
Continuing my best bars in the world tour and this one definitely deserves a spot. Came here with my sister and her bf after having ramen so we only tried the popcorn chicken food wise which was delicious. Drinks we had: Holy Shishito: my number one favorite, absolutely delicious - tastes like a shishito pepper, everyone loved it tbh Tipsy Tulip: comes in a tulip glass, super cute. Also delicious but the holy shishito was more memorable Grapefruit with a Grudge: dangerously good I could have downed like 7 of them Fireside Tipple: my sister loved it, I wasn't a fan but I hate Campari this is not a fault of the bar just my taste Gilded Orchard: me and my sisters bf loved it, she hated it Fxxing Little Brain: everyone liked it, has a walnut for the "brain" Service was great, and they were able to fit us in without a reso. The music was incredible also, makes you want to get up and dance (or twerk )
The last time we were in NY, double chicken please was under renovations. So we knew that this time we HAD to go. We arrived an hour before opening on a Tuesday because we heard the lines were crazy. Now with hindsight I thought that was overkill for a weekday. Though showing up early was rewarded with seats at the bar and better interactions with the bartenders. My thoughts are you've got two choices: 1. do what we did (weekend suggestion) 3. show up half an hour before opening and deal with whatever line is there (weekday suggestion) 5. show up when you show up and put your name down then go to dinner somewhere nearby and return when you're called (weekend suggestion) We got the following drinks: - Japanese Cold Noodles: 5/5 they captured the dish in such a deliciously refreshing way - Thai Curry: 4/5 the spices of the curry is definitely present but I didn't think the Thai tea popsicle was needed for flavor (though it was a fun addition) - Mango Sticky Rice: 3/5 I wouldn't call this a mango sticky rice. Its flavor is more reminiscent of a chrysanthemum juice box. A bit more alcohol forward and not really screaming sweet to me. - Egg Custard: 2/5 for me though my gf liked it, I didn't love drinking salted egg both in taste and texture (great presentation though) - Key Lime Pie: 5/5 delicious, fun, and sweet way to end the night We also got the salted egg yolk chicken sando and that was delicious as well. Ambiance was modern with a sprinkle of funny chicken motifs like the sounds in the bathroom. My friends and I were excited to get a reservation at The Coop! Too bad they charge $2.50 + tax pp (nonrefundable) to get said reservation... COCKTAILS "Apps" Japanese Cold Noodle - 5/5 very refreshing and although it tasted savory and had the essence of a cold noodle dish, it was perfect for a savory cocktail. NY Beet Salad - ok, very beet tasting "Mains" Cold Pizza - interesting! wouldn't get again Thai Curry - didn't get the essence of thai curry, not a memorable cocktail to me Mango Sticky Rice - I got a mango flavor but it didnt have a strong resemblance "Desserts" Key Lime Pie - 5/5 !! Great tasting cocktail Custard Bun - 4/5 - cool cocktail with the bubble (that resembled the roundness of a bun), but the liquor (I'm guessing the sherry?) was quite strong with this one that it overpowered the flavoring for me French Toast - wasn't my fave "Cheers" DCP House Shot - The people in my party who ordered it very much enjoyed it! FOOD Hot honey chicken sandwich - 5/5, this is the chicken sandwich to order out of all of them Salted Egg Yolk chicken sandwich - 3/5 as per my friends' feedback (altho i had one small bite!) They all preferred the hot honey Popcorn chicken - I actually didn't try it, but the rest of my party did and enjoyed it. However it's +$4 for sauce...? The service was good - attentive and friendly! Ambiance-wise, DCP's "Coop" was very dark, which gives mysterious and fun cocktail bar vibes but I would have liked a bit more light to see the cocktails better. The chicken noises playing in the bathroom was ... a fun touch haha. I'm glad I got to try so many of their noteworthy cocktails and really got to see that creativity which was fun. First things first: all things reservation!!! I'm super lucky to have two friends who actually came by before they opened to sign us up on their waitlist. They told me they started lining up around 4:45 p.m. and were able to get on the waitlist at 5:16 (they opened at 5). The staff told them that it would be around a 2-hour wait and that they would text us when our spot was ready. We spent this time exploring the neighborhood and got the text at 6:50. FYI: Just make sure that you're nearby when your time is up, because you do need to claim your spot within 10 minutes of receiving the text message! Once we were back at Double Chicken Please, we were seated very quickly. Our spot was at a table in "The Coop", where you get the chance to order foods like their chicken sandwiches, as well as their well-known cocktails inspired by iconic foods. We ordered a total of 5 drinks among the 3 of us. I usually don't drink alcohol, so I ordered 1 drink and sampled some of my friends' drinks (shoutout to my friends hehe). From my most to least favorite, here are the drinks and my thoughts: 1) French Toast: This was so creamy and smooth! It honestly didn't taste too much like French toast, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. From what I remember, it tasted like caramelized milk (think dulce de leche-inspired cocktail). 2) Butter Raisin Biscuit: This was creamy and smooth like the French Toast (probably because of the brown butter), and it actually tasted like what it's named after. For those who aren't fans of raisins, though, definitely beware! I, however, loved how strong the raisin taste was. 3) Key Lime Pie: They 200% nailed the taste of key lime pie in this drink. I would definitely say the taste of this drink most closely matched the name out of the 5 drinks we had. You could even taste the pie crust in this drink, which is crazy!!! I would highly recommend this, and only put this third on my list because I'm sadly not the biggest fan of citrus desserts. Please get this if you're a fan of key lime pie! Plus, this drink is super pretty! 4) Japanese Cold Noodle: I was so impressed with how much this tasted like Japanese cold noodle! This definitely ranks 2nd out of the 5 drinks we had in terms of how closely it matched the food, but I was most shocked about this one because it's so savory and complex! I never expected to think I could taste cold noodles in a drink, but that's exactly what this is! The tartness from the lime, the freshness from the cucumber, and the savory richness from the sesame oil sounds so weird in a drink, but it went so well together! I would definitely rank this higher if I loved savory drinks more! 5) Mango Sticky Rice: The one I ordered (but also my least favorite, sadly). It didn't taste like mango sticky rice and felt like the strongest out of the 5 drinks, so I ended up offering the rest to my friends once I had a sip! I feel like I've raved WAY too much about the drinks already haha, so I'm just going to briefly mention the hot honey chicken sandwich. It was amazing! I definitely didn't expect to be WOW'd by the chicken sandwich as much as I was, and found it to be my favorite out of everything we got (especially because I don't usually drink alcohol). Please get yourself a chicken sandwich when you're here--even if you're initially only here for the drinks! Lastly, don't be too intimidated by the reservations! Been wanting to come here ever since I saw the Eater episode on Youtube. Apparently they were named the #1 best bar in N. America last year. I was able to make a 9:30pm reservation for The Coop. Upon arriving, we had to stand outside and check in with the host. About 5 mins later, we got to go in and they walked us to the back room and we got seated next to the bar. We ordered 2 rounds of drinks and each of us ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich. It wasn't until later we realized that one of us shouldve ordered the salted egg sandwich to try instead of all of us ordering the same sando. The hot honey sandwich was delicious but it became a little too sweet towards the end of the sandwich after several bites. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. Love the drink concept here. The menu consists of 3 sections: appetizers, mains, and desserts. We ordered: Cold pizza Japanese cold noodle Custard bun Key lime pie Mango sticky rice The drinks really did taste like the food except for the mango sticky rice. Everyone loved their drinks. The mango sticky rice had a really distinct tea flavor to it which I enjoyed but my bf did not. It was definitely different. The custard bun was sweet and was really good. My bfs favorite was the Japanese cold noodle. Service could have been better though. Our server didn't take the time to explain the menu. He didn't come by at all to ask how we were doing and was no where to be found at one point when we were ready for the check. read more

popcorn chicken and chicken sandwiches were SO GOOD. i felt i got the best value for quality out of every place i visited in NYC. Service was amazing, and I recommend getting a table in the coop. Come at 5 when the open, get on the waitlist for an hour, and get there just in time for dinner. read more

Came back for the cartooned theme cocktails and f1 promotions! Tried the front free range which wasn't as intimate as the coop in the back this time, but still great drinks nonetheless. Wish the martinis were bigger as they literally are a single shot or so. read more

Worth the hype for sure. Drinks were cool and creative- on the new menu every cocktail was based off some kind of Disney character. Got a Snow White and a lilo & stitch themed drink. Heard the chicken sandwich is fire so gotta try that next time read more

We've been making our way through the top bars in the world so of course we had to check out Double Chicken Please during our recent stop in NYC! Their back room is known as The Coop and has a unique selection of cocktails. There's high demand for seating in The Coop but only a limited number of reservation slots, with the rest of the seating being first come first serve. The reservations usually fill up as soon as they open, and since we were busy traveling in different time zones, we instead decided to try our luck at waiting in line prior to open. We got in line at around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, and were lucky that we were able to be seated right at open with the first wave of seating. The time limit for seating at The Coop is 2 hours, so if you didn't make it in on the first wave, expect to wait close to 2 hours to get in. If you want to be safe, I'd say start lining up around 4:15 or 4:20. They have a front room where they serve drinks on tap, as well as their entire food menu. If you don't feel the need to try their specialty cocktails, you can probably just stay in the front room which usually doesn't have much of a wait. Many people also choose to grab food and drinks in the front room while they wait for their turn in The Coop. Our group of 4 ordered 2 rounds of drinks and tried to get different things so we could try as much of their menu as possible. We also sampled some of their food offerings. Drinks -Mango Sticky Rice -Cold Pizza -Thai Curry -NY Beet Salad -French Toast -Custard Bun -Key Lime Pie -DCP House Shots Food -Chicken Sandwich (Hot Honey) -Chicken Sandwich (Salted Egg Yolk) -Popcorn Chicken (Thai Basil Aioli Sauce) Overall, all the food we ordered was delicious, and we were impressed by all of the drinks we ordered. Some of them tasted more like their name than others, but they were all good. The Cold Pizza in particular wasn't really my thing, but I was still surprised how they managed to create that flavor within a cocktail. The Mango Sticky Rice was tasty although I didn't feel it really tasted like the dish at all. The dessert cocktails were all refreshing without being overly sweet, and they were the perfect way to end our cocktail tasting. All in all, we really enjoyed our visit to The Coop at DCP and I can see why they rank amongst the world's best bars. HOWEVER I don't think any restaurant or bar is worth waiting 2+ hours for. So I'd say it's only worth it if you manage to snag a reservation, can get there early to line up before opening, or if you have other things to do in the area to kill time while you wait. Would also recommend going with at least 3-4 people if you can so you guys can try a larger variety of their cocktails. Cute pins and other merch available for sale as well! The mystique of DCP and its two-room system are almost as legendary as the cocktails in The Coop itself. If you don't have a reservation and find yourself in line, note that this wait is for entry into The Front Room, where you can get their full food menu and basic cocktails. In the front room, you can then put your name down for yet ANOTHER wait to get into The Coop, a speakeasy-ish retro lounge located just a few feet away where some of the most inventive cocktails are served. Vibes are strong in both rooms, as are service and excellent drinks. Our party of 4 showed up without reservations after deciding to (chicken) wing it one Saturday night, and waited in line for about 30 minutes before being ushered inside into The Coop by one of the staff who was going down the line looking for (ding!) parties of 4. Sometimes dreams do come true. We were seated at a low table with some comfy arm chairs and plush ottomans, with dim lighting just bright enough to give everyone's faces a warm glow. Menus are accessible on the website via QR code. We were given a flask of water and cups right away, and then took a few minutes oohing and aahing over the weirdness of the drinks before settling on a variety of things. Our waiter was charming, just attentive enough, and super patient as he explained the menu and our drinks. Japanese Cold Noodle was my favorite, a garden-fresh cucumber drink. Butter Raisin Biscuit was straight up dessert (even including a small cookie), and even the Cold Pizza was uniquely savory and enjoyable. Popcorn Chicken with Hot Honey was very good, but a little salty after a while. The Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich? Life-changing. This is a hefty boy. You'll need both hands and as wide as your mouth will open to fully appreciate the layers of fluffy bun, sour pickles, and crispy but juicy chicken. Make sure you napkin up first. Would also drown myself willingly in the Hojicha Pudding, which is light and toasty and such a creamy (but not overwhelming) treat. In the words of every Asian mom, "not too sweet". There's only one unisex restroom located between the Front Room and Coop, which means you'll most likely be waiting to use it, but it's kept quite clean and is quieter and larger than I would have expected the bar to have. read more
Incredibly hot take incoming: this place was a huge miss for me. The cocktail menu is fun and creative, but everything we tried was INSANELY sweet. Like overpoweringly so. The Japanese cold noodle in particular was just way too much. I probably should've ordered more strategically, but I really didn't expect everything we got to be straight sugar. I don't think I've ever had this complaint at any other restaurant. The food tasted good but, again, was too sweet to even enjoy. I don't think I finished even half of the hot honey chicken sandwich. Service really wasn't great. Our waitress was super busy and didn't have much time to check on us, drinks took forever, and we had to wait a few minutes past our res. Overall, it's an awesome venue, fun experience, but as I'm generally trying to avoid Type II diabetes I don't think I'll ever be back. Also, as a side note, I obviously know it's a fried chicken place and not a place you go to eat healthy. Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. There was already a line for people that were walk-ins before the restaurant opened, so if you don't have a Resy on a weekend night, be ready to wait anywhere between 30 mins to an hour. The host will take your name / phone and you'll get a text to come back when a table is ready. If you have time to wait, I think it's worth it. They have you order at least one drink per diner (alcoholic and mocktail drinks available). The cocktails are pretty unique and on the savory side in terms of taste, most are inspired after savory dishes. We came here to try the fried chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint! I ordered the hot honey chicken, and loved their twist on a classic sandwich. We also ordered the popcorn chicken and the koji cucumbers that were also really good. Servers were super friendly and attentive. Definitely will be coming back. read more

I don't even know where to start: everything was incredible. I was impressed and surprised honestly. I was debating a visit and feeling like it must be overhyped. Curiosity got the best of me and I'm glad it did because everything--drink, food, service, interiors, operations--was elite. I want to come back to try more of the menu on every visit to the city now. On drinks: maybe the best part. They're inventive, interesting, but they don't get distracted from the primary goal of *tasting* good. They're all so delicious and surprising. We got the Custard Bun, French Toast, Red Eye Gravy, Key Lime Pie, Butter Raisin Biscuit, and Cold Pizza. They were all exquisite, particularly French Toast and Red Eye Gravy for me. The chicken sandwiches were also very tasty (popcorn chicken was fine to me, I'd probably skip next time). The operations, the way they get a wait list going and manage the long line, and service was all impeccable. I really appreciate they try to do their best to make for the best *customer* experience they can, given all things considered and the challenges I can't even imagine the level of demand places on them. The interior space is like a 70's lounge brought into modern times on steroids. It's STUNNING. The folks at Double Chicken Please seem to consider everything end to end and I respect it so much. If you can't get into The Coop, I think it's not worth it to get in here at all I can't get the reservation ahead of time, so I had to wait in line to get in. Around 30 mins wait only get me into the front room. I ordered chicken popcorn and chicken sandwich, and some mixed drinks. I hate to say but the food and drink are mediocre, and not worth the price tag. Despite that, the restaurant is packed and the crowd seems like they are having good times The inside of the front room is fairly dark and they have standing tables for people to mingling around. This chicken themed cocktail bar is divided into two section: Free Range and The Coop. The Free Range bar (front of the bar) serves classic cocktails (with a twist) inspired by classic cartoons, whereas The Coop (back of the bar) serves food inspired cocktails. Most people usually try to make reservations since the wait time for walk-ins can get ridiculous long. My group decided to take the chance and wait in line before they opened. We got there around 4:20PM on a Saturday and was the third group in line. The line got long really quick! Once they opened, we got seated right away. The Coop is dimly lit and decorated with mid century touch. It was a little too dark for my liking and definitely felt cramped as more people were being seated. The place can get pretty loud as well. The drinks we got were: Japanese Cold Noodle French Toast Thai Curry Mango Sticky Rice Cold Pi Japanese Cold Noodle was definitely the best one and worth the price! Unable to grab one of the coveted reservations so got in line at 4pm on a Friday and was about 7th group in line. My party of 2 was seated right as doors opened at 5pm and butts were in seats by 5:15pm. I tried the Japanese Cold Noodle and it was refreshing and creative! Unlike any cocktail I have had before. I also tried the Red Eye Gravy and it was boozy and delicious - a must try if you're into Old Fashioneds. We also ordered the Popcorn Chicken with hot honey. The portion is generous and the chicken is well seasoned. I think I would have liked it ia tad crispier but enjoyed the bites overall, esp with the hot honey. If you come in a group, be ready that this is a timed seating, due to literal long waiting line. Service is very attentive and efficient so should not be a problem if you're ready when they come through. read more
Delicious array of cocktails on tap in the front area, and such fun & innovative drinks in The Coop (aka the bar in the back)! Didn't try any food but also have heard it's delicious. We put our name down for The Coop for 3 people on a Thursday around 9:40pm. They quoted us a 3-4 hour wait time and said there were no guarantees we'd make it into The Coop (since it closes at 1am). Thankfully you aren't required to wait there the whole time (they'll text you when your table is ready), so after one drink from the bar at the front we went somewhere else but were notified after only 1h30min of waiting that our table was already ready! The cocktail menu in The Coop has super fun creations, with many that are based on appetizers, entrees, and desserts. My friends and I tried the Cold Pizza, Mango Sticky Rice, and Shroom Ceviche. The Cold Pizza was definitely the easiest to drink out of all of them, and it even had a cute little design on it. I loved how fun & kitschy the drinks were, and next time I'd be curious to try the Key Lime Pie or French Toast cocktails. Since you only have 10 min to confirm your table once it's ready and then 10 min to get back, I probably wouldn't try to put your name down before dinner (unless it's a quicker / super close by spot you're going to) because it seems the times they quote can be drastically different than what it actually ends up being. You wouldn't want to have to lose out on your table bc you're still eating dinner / are too far away, so I think putting your name down then going to nearby bars (like Ye's Apothecary) is the better move. The Coop was much smaller than expected! Makes sense why the wait can be so lengthy. Our waiter was so knowledgeable about all of the drinks / explained them all upon arrival. Finally got a chance to visit DCP! Honestly, lived up to its hype...here's my recommended plan for anyone who wants to go but doesn't have a reservation: 1) come right when they open up, there will be a long line but it's deceptively long since everyone is just waiting to put their name down. 2) put your name down, your table will be available around 8/9 PM 3) go grab dinner or drinks elsewhere in LES (so many options) 4) come back when you get the text! The drinks are truly very creative and worth the hype. I was most impressed by the key lime pie! It tasted just like a key lime pie. I got the Cold Pizza and it didn't exactly capture the essence as much as I feel like it captured the essence of a fresh tomato salad. Still delicious and fun! We also got the chicken bites and they were good but a bit overpriced (I think just the sauce was like $5) The ambiance of the inside makes it a perfect place for a date or intimate gathering with friends. Drinks were lovely! Extremely creative. The key lime pie was spot on and masked the alcohol flavor very well. The japanese cold noodle had tons of umami and was great. The mango sticky rice doesn't taste much like mango sticky rice, but the waitress did say that it was more of an inspiration rather than recreation. Note: This review is for the backroom/The Coop. I was at this cocktail bar with a group of seven others having recently gone to Sappe with a few of them. As this was the case, I didn't get a sandwich but we had a bunch of cocktails. Somehow, we got a reservation at 9:00 for eight people in The Coop which is noted to be one of the top 50 bars in the world and potentially the best in the US. The volume was serviceable back there and the service was nice and we went through a good amount of the cocktail menu essentially ordering everything outside of the house shot even though it did sound tasty. My personal orders were the Mango Sticky Rice and the Red Eye Gravy. I tried the Cold Pizza, French Toast, and Key Lime Pie. Others ordered the Waldorf Salad, NY Beet Salad, Japanese Cold Noodle, and Butter Raisin Biscuit. Most cocktails outside of the $9 shot of course are $20 bucks outside of the two "salad" cocktails which are $19 and the French Toast/Key Lime Pie which are $21. As I tried 5, I'll put them in personal preference order. Mango Sticky Rice: Bacardi Reserva Ocho, mango sticky rice, wakame, cold brew, coconut. Easily my favorite. You first get the mango, then there is a sweetness from the sticky rice, and finally there's a small burn from the rum. The drink isn't overly sweet even with all these ingredients and I'm presuming the seaweed/cold brew helps in this department though you can't taste it. Would highly recommend. Key Lime Pie: Bombay Sapphire, The Plum, I Suppose (marzipan flavored liqueur made from a plum kernel and hops of all things,) winter melon, sweet cream, egg white, lime, soda. Outside of the fun design, the drink had a sour and sweet flavor and did in fact taste like a key lime pie. The best of the gimmick cocktails by a good bit. French Toast: Grey Goose, roasted barley, brioche, coconut, milk, maple syrup, egg. Probably the sweetest of the drinks but still not overly so. This felt more comforting and I think would work well on a cold winter day. Red Eye Gravy: Teeling Irish whiskey, coffee butter, corn, walnut, wild mushroom, microwaved coppa. Unique. The coffee flavor was quite strong and I'm presuming the coffee butter is the same stuff used with the chicken liver mousse. Maybe a bit too bitter for some but definitely one of the stronger cocktails. The dried coppa was essentially a dehydrated pork cracker and it added a stronger saltiness to the drink which helped with the strong coffee flavor. Fun drink though slightly gimmicky. Cold Pizza: Don Fulano Blanco (tequila,) parmigiano reggiano, burnt toast, tomato, basil, honey, egg white. It tasted like the toppings on a pizza and I'm not sure if I hated it or just found it bizarre. This was the only drink that was more of a gimmick than being tasty. The people who tried the noodle cocktail noted it had a strong sesame flavor and the person who had the raisin one liked it a lot. I didn't hear much about the salad cocktail outside of someone saying the Waldorf one had too much celery flavor for their liking. In terms of food, a few ordered the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Sandwich ($16,) I ordered along with another the Popcorn Chicken for the table ($12 or $16 with a sauce and we got the Salted Egg Yolk and Thai Basil Aioli,) someone got the Chicken Liver Mousse ($18,) and I ordered the Le Big Mac ($11.) The Popcorn Chicken had a nice fry though it wasn't exactly the same as the Taiwanese version not having the same texture but it was still tasty fried chicken. What made it was the sauces with the egg being my easy favorite but the aioli helped reduce the richness so both worked. The Le Big Mac or rather the Le Big Macaron was essentially an oversized macaron as per the bad joke. This came with a layer of chocolate ice cream along with yuzu and mochi and was a tasty small bite. The yuzu layer was my favorite part adding some tartness. I'm a big fan of Patisserie Fouet and I'm happy they combined together for this and yes it did resemble a tiny Big Mac in some ways. Would recommend if you want a small bite with your drink. Otherwise, I tried a little bit of the mousse which has the same strong coffee butter which was different but tasty. The food was tasty and I would likely come back and wait on line to go to the front bar and order a chicken sandwich as well as one of their tap cocktails or as they call their "Taptails." The Coop cocktails were mostly excellent outside of the cold pizza though it tasted exactly as it described so it's kind of hard to fault it. Luckily, right at 9pm PST on Thursday, January 4th, I scored a reservation for 6 people on Resy. Vibe in the back is very speakeasy like. We had the table / booth right when you walk into the back / coop. They have hooks for jackets since the tables can get a little crowded if full. I decided to try the red eye gravy. It was inventive with the teeling irish whiskey, coffee butter, corn, walnut, wild mushroom, microwaved coppa. I'm a dark liquor girl, so the drink itself was fine. I prefer very spirit forward, so this was enough to please my palate, but lighter than I prefer. I tried the reverse manhattan afterwards and liked that more since I really am just a traditional cocktail type of girl. Unfortunately we were not able to try any food as the kitchen was closed while we were here. I'd love to come back and try their chicken and cocktails on tap. I've been wanting to try this place FOREVER and boy was I utterly disappointed with my experience here. We got here around 4:50 pm and were so grateful that we had a reservation because the line outside was crazy. We came with a group of 6 and ordered a round of drinks, snacks, and sandwiches. They had a 1 drink minimum pp and I told the server my partner doesn't drink alcohol but he said it was fine as long as we had at least 6 drinks by the end of the night. He did say it reluctantly and with a sense of exasperation. I understood and respected the minimum but knew the rest of us were planning to have at least 2 drinks pp so I wasn't worried about hitting the min. When my friend asked if we could order more drinks for the 2nd round, the server said "I sure hope so." I felt like the comment was rude and unnecessary. They also got one of our orders wrong when the food came. Despite the unwelcoming service, I still enjoyed the drinks and sandwich. I got the key lime pie and french toast and they were both good. The key lime pie deserves all the hype. It was so good and easy to drink. The french toast was on the stronger side in comparison to the key lime pie. I also got to sample the cold pizza, custard bun, waldorf salad, butter raisin biscuit, and moscow mule from my friends. The cold pizza was refreshing and had an apparent pizza taste without being overwhelming. Everything else was okay. The popcorn chicken with salted egg yolk sauce was pretty average. Would not get again. The hot honey chicken sandwich was chef's kiss. The chicken was thick and juicy with a crunchy exterior. The sauce also complemented the chicken so well. My friends got the bolognese grilled cheese and mochi donut. I didn't get a chance to try theirs, but they did not enjoy it. Although the drinks were good, it was not enough to justify the hype. Post rainy Sunday, we saw about 4 people in line from 4-4:30ish then the line grew like crazy 4:30-4:45. Recommend coming just a little before 4:30 to secure your spot as a walk-in! I was super excited to try out this place as i have heard many great things and i believe this year it is number 1 best bar in the US (and top like 20 in the world!). I admit i haven't tried extremely hard but every time i do check for reservations it seems to always be fully booked out. The bar utilizes its space very well with lots of cute decorations and coop like design. Every available space is prepared for seating but also in a comfortable way where you don't feel cramped with your neighbors. The bartender we had was extremely friendly and made the visit more enjoyable! Drinks | Cold Pizza - You can really taste the pizza and savory flavor of this drink! Although I can feel the alc, i don't taste it much so a very true deconstruction and reconstruction of a cold pizza. The coolest thing is the tomato flavor that comes through. I believe the foam on top is the cheese and does have that essence in flavor. Probably not something I'd be choosing to drink as my go to, but a must try for the unique-ness and delicious to finish off! From all the drinks we had I'll rank this one 4th. 3.5/5 Mango Sticky Rice - This has a light sweetness and great flavor overall! pretty well balanced. I love mango sticky rice as a dessert so i thought this would be my favorite and it was great but i loved the other drinks more. This was perfect for my partner who ordered two but for me it could use a bit more sweetness to mask the alc flavor more. From all the drinks we had I'll rank this one last (which is not bad at all since this is better than majority drinks at other places, just loved the others more ) 3.5/5 Japanese cold noodle - Cucumber and almost vinegar type flavor comes forward in this drink. My partner didn't actually like it that much but for me it was very good and refreshing! From the drinks we had, I'll rank this one 3rd. 3.75/5 Key lime pie - This was definitely a fan favorite as i saw the bartender making this the most for sure! Second most made was probably the mango sticky then cold pizza/ Japanese cold noodle. This is super yummy and great for people who like a little sour drink! its really cool because even though the drink is completely smooth, you can really taste the graham "crust" flavor come through in every sip balanced out perfectly with the key lime flavor. This was my favorite drink of the night! 5/5 Custard bun - It comes with a delicious smelling bubble on top so make sure you take a whiff before you drink! This drink was so unique and so yummy! If you love custard buns i think you will like this. You can taste the egg custard and the slight sweet steamed bun flavors in every sip. The one downside I would say to this drink (and a really minor one) is that it has a very very very slight graininess to it. This might be on purpose since certain custard buns, usually the salted egg yolk custard has this texture (but amplify it by like 100x) and so maybe it is a plus to someone else but for me, i would have enjoyed it more if it was smooth. From all the drinks we had, I'll rank this one second! 4.75/5 Food | Hot honey chicken sandwich - Very yummy sauce and moist chicken! not very crunchy but still very solid. 3.5/5 Bolognese grilled cheese - I love the cheesiness and it comes out piping hot! Waited an hour in line but the food was well worth the wait! They use the right amount of 5 spice season to make the chicken perfectly seasoned. Despite the long wait, you're not guaranteed a table. We had a 2 hour time limit. Service was merely ok. We had to call over a server every time we needed something (to order, get napkins, etc). The hot honey chicken sandwich was phenomenal. It was such a large portion, and the chicken was juicy, flavorful. I highly recommend getting this. I got to try 8 different drinks: 1. Japanese cold noodle - tasted exactly like the leftover broth in a cold noodle dish, probably because of the sesame flavor 2. NY beet salad - this drink was ok, a bit thick in my opinion 3. This place is in my hall of fame for must try spots in NYC. Much deserved hype for their drinks and chicken sandwich. I always take my friends from out of town here bc that's how good it is! - Drinks: Loved the pear bamboo, french toast, and cold soba noodle (it sounds weird but it shocked me how refreshing and light it was) - Chicken sandwich with basil sauce - get this one. It's one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had and has all the perfect elements - juicy, crunchy, satisfying yet not too heavy. Service is amazing. It's a bit dark and cramped in there but I can look past it. Highly recommend making a reservation!! read more

This is a hot take because everyone seems to love this place, but I think it's overhyped. We arrived an hour before opening on a Saturday and ended up waiting in line (because it was impossible to get a resy), so we had high hopes. The chicken sandwiches were decently delicious, but the rest of the menu was underwhelming. We tried the Japanese Cold Noodle, Mango Sticky Rice, Cold Pizza, and Key Lime Pie drinks. All drinks were aesthetically pleasing, but they didn't all taste that great. Only the Key Lime Pie really stood out. The Cold Pizza drink, for example, definitely lived up to its name and tasted like cold pizza (it's not for everyone). The atmosphere was a highlight though. Vibes were on point, and it's a fun spot to meet friends. Overall, cool place to try, but not worth the hype if you're looking for standout food and drinks. I have heard about how difficult it is to get into DCP. I was not able to secure a reservation, so my friend and I lined up 30 minutes before the store opened and were near the front of the line. They opened right at 5PM and we were one of the first to be seated in the back room. We were told that we would have two hours and they were very strict with the timing (we were kicked out right at 7PM). First thing I noticed were the great vibes. Not super pretentious but not a dive either. Tables were close together but I still had some room to breathe. My friend and I ordered two cocktails each and a bunch of food. While not everything was a winner, I think they deserve credit for having some really interesting and creative flavors and ideas. My favorite drink was probably the Japanese Cold Noodle which was really well-balanced and refreshing. I loved the hint of sesame oil. We also ordered popcorn chicken and got to try the famous Mochi Donut chicken sandwich. I was hesitant about the sandwich since I am not a big fan of sweets but I think this was surprisingly nice. The sweetness of the donut was cut by the spice of the habanero and it all somehow worked. I do think it overall lived up to the hype and I am excited to come back again to try some more creative food and drinks! read more

Came on a weekday 20 min before opening to make first seating. Line wasn't too bad when we got there but quickly got longer as other ppl had the same idea. Got the key lime pie and mango sticky rice cocktails in the back room, both were delicious! Neither tasted too strongly of alc and very well matched the flavor profile of their names. Really really loved the citrusy kick of the key lime pie and the foam on top. Very sleek, dim, and elevated modern bar ambiance! And super friendly bartenders as well. Great bar experience!! Definitely one of my favorite cocktail bar experiences. I would say that this is not for people who like strong spirit-forward drinks, but there's a little something for everyone here. The beauty of this place is the amount of prep work they put into creating each cocktail. Definitely recommend looking them up on YouTube. The front room: full food menu is available and select cocktails on draft. Easier to get in, and can even sit here while you wait for a table in the back. The back room: full food menu and handmade cocktails. You'll definitely either want to make a reservation, or come early, unless you're okay with waiting a couple hours ;) The first couple times I came was right around when they started getting the "best cocktail bar" awards, so yes I woke up at midnight to make resy. It was relatively easy but from what I've heard it's much harder (didn't bother trying). I came an hour before opening on Super Bowl Sunday and that was definitely not needed, I saw a couple people who got in line after they opened get seated in the back room lol Anyways, the must: - chicken sandwiches: there was one time when I got them and the buns were cold. I wish I had sent it back, but the sandwich was still good so I didn't complain. - key lime pie: they started calling this a "dessert cocktail" but it's good to drink whenever! Unless you want to save the best for last ;) i usually don't like sweet cocktails but it's just wild how they nail that crust/graham cracker taste!! - Japanese cold noodles: from the description I didn't think I'd like this, but this is my favorite for sure. Very refreshing - cold pizza: I must admit this will not be for everyone, but it's just crazy how it tastes like cold pizza!! I think it's the tomato-y taste?? Service is always great, it's kinda cool to sit at the bar. I actually wouldn't recommend for large groups of parties (5+) as the tables are small and intimate, but have definitely seen big groups. Literally my favourite cocktail bar in the city. At first I was skeptical of the drinks. Like how good can a cold pizza cocktail really be? It's all a gimmick but I have to go. No. It's actually, legitimately a delicious cocktail. And don't even get me started on the beet salad cocktail. Highlight of my time here. I think about it every day. Also our server was literally so nice and gave us the best recommendations, so props to him. I had heard about this place from my friend. Him and his wife had been before and were raving about it, when we told them we were going to NYC. They said we had to check this place out...and me and my wife were SO GLAD we did. The basic concept at Double Chicken Please is that they serve these incredible cocktails that taste like food. They do serve food as well, but the bread and butter of this place is the cocktails!! My friends recommended the Key Lime Pie and the Japanese Cold Noodle. Both drinks were INCREDIBLE. They tasted just like the food. I was literally in awe of how the drinks tasted. They have many other cocktail options. Examples being Cold Pizza, French Toast, Mango Sticky Rice, and MANY OTHERS. Double Chicken Please has a bar in the front and a bar in the back. You want to sit at the bar in the back. The drink menus are different for both sides of the bar. When we arrived (we did a walk-in), we were sat in the front. We were about to order a drink from the menu, but right after we did, our table was ready in the back. So we cancelled our drinks and ordered from the menu in the back. The wait (probably about 35-40 minutes) was worth it. This bar is also ranked as one of the world's best bars, currently ranked at number 14. Reservations are HIGHLY encouraged, but you could get away with a walk-in sometimes, at least if you have a very small party. It was just me and my wife, so it was easy to do a walk-in. GREAT chicken sandwich definitely lives up to the hype! Wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had, but it's pretty damn close. Make sure to get there early or have a reservation because that line gets crazy! Also if you end up in the front they only have cocktails on tap which were pretty bad to be transparent. I was expecting to think DCP would be overrated despite being rated one of the top bars in both North America and the world. It was honestly amazing! 10/10 and definitely recommend you try getting in. DCP opens at 5. We got there 445 and the line was already down the block. We missed the first seating for the back room so we put our names in and waited at a bar nearby. We got the text around 745. When we got inside, we got seated at the two corner seats of the bar. We loved watching the bartenders do their thing. We tried the beet salad, cold Japanese udon, mango sticky rice, and the cold pizza. The cold pizza and mango sticky rice were our favorites. The mango sticky rice is pretty strong. The flavors the bartenders play with are great. We also got the popcorn chicken and the hot honey chicken sandwich as well as the egg yolk sandwich. The sandwiches were huge. We honestly got too much. The hot honey was wayyyy better than the egg yolk sandwich. The egg yolk had a thicker texture when you bit into it. Kind of strange. You could also share sandwiches. We wanted to try more drinks but you are only allowed to sit for 1.5 hours. Can't wait to come back. read more

There's no separate entrance but you don't need to wait in line - tell the people at the front door and they'll usher you into the front room to wait for your table to clear up.
Do you need reservations?
Backroom reservations open 6 days ahead at exactly 12 am. They disappear almost instantly within a minute. Best bet, if you miss it is to show up right when it opens. Wait time can range from 0-3 hours up until 5:30-6:00 pm. After that, good luck…
