I moved into this neighborhood back in April so my fiancee and I have been trying out all the deli's around us. We are out pretty late and sometime just crave some sort of beverage in the middle of the night. We frequent this establishment quite often and are never dissatisfied. I have had cold cut sandwiches from here before but really wanted to try one of there of their specialty sandwiches. WELL let me tell you i was in sandwich heaven. My fiancee and i split a hero called "THE BEAST" basically it was chicken cutlet, ONION RINGS, gravy and mozzarella cheese. Splitting was enough for the both of us plus we were able to get other goodies such as Oreo cakesters and chocolate milk (typical deli stuff). They also carry some grocery such as cereal, milk, eggs, loafs of bread, etc. I never actually been here in the morning so I have never experienced the morning rush but I know at night there are plenty of St. John's Students loitering around this area...which is slightly annoying especially when they are drunk. read more

Located two blocks from Saint John's University, the Double J Deli boasts a huge menu of named sandwiches, like "The Beast" or "The Godfather". Those crazy college kids must like that. But really, changing one ingredient, say from mayo to mustard, or from Swiss to American, requires a new name? Come on. i live down the block from here so frequent it a lot. great place. huge selection of sandwiches. my wife usually gets the spiderman. everyone loves the iced coffee. depending on when you go it can sometimes get a little crowded with at johns kids and may have a short wait but never too bad. i'm addition to the sandwiches and coffee they have all your regular deli items - chips, cookies, sodas, etc and some baked goods as well. owner is always super friendly and welcoming. i believe it's cash only unless over $10 or $20 now. definitely recommend. read more

Double J's is the college student's dream deli. They have all the snack foods you could ever want and for the partying type (not myself) they are very well stocked with all the various types of booze you can possibly want. BUT, Double J's real beauty is the vast assortment of freshly made sandwiches- a menu that literally covers two walls and the top of the display case! The Super Junior, Classic Italian, Ocean Sub, and Cuban are my personal favorites, and they're all decently priced and prepared fresh. Much more bang for your buck than buying on campus. Really delicious sandwiches, very friendly staff, and walking distance from St. John's. One of my favorite eateries on the Turnpike. read more

Double J's is a nice neighborhood deli. They make great breakfast sandwiches and carry assorted basic food items like eggs, bread, milk, etc. The crowd is a mix of locals and St. Johns students. It's also a favorite spot for the police officers of the 107th Precinct. They can get busy in the mornings so it's often a good idea to call in your order 15 minutes ahead of time so you can be in and out. read more

Only reason giving it 2 stars because the Sandwitch isn't that bad but holy crap the prices are OUTRAGES!!!! Don't get me wrong ill pay for a sandwich even if its expensive but it has to live up to that price. One of my favorite "in the middle night" food spots! If you can't find a sandwich to eat at Double J then you are not hungry! Would love to give them 5 stars, but from time to time when I order a custom sandwich it's missing something I asked for(oil and vinegar or extra mayo). And the cash only part is a problem some days. Customer service is 6 stars if I could! Never got attitude from anybody in that deli! And at one point I was in there every other night if not every night, as I work 11pm-7am. read more

Ehhh Used to be my "go to" spot my freshman year. Had a craving so I came to try again but this place has definitely fallen from grace. It was decent, but cashier was extremely rude. I frequent this deli quite a bit, ever since I've gone to St. John's. They're conveniently located right by the campus; however, there's hardly ever parking if you decide to drive. They have a ton of sandwiches posted on the wall to choose from. I have not been here in a while and came here today for an egg sandwich. Boy, did their prices increase! If I so happen to pass by this deli when hungry, I would stop here; however, I'd probably go elsewhere now that their prices increased tremendously. Very similar to Cherry Valley. I've only been here twice and I got "The Beast" and the "SJROTC." Both are very good. Prices are comparable to any other deli like this so I don't think it's 'too expensive.' I think Cherry Valley and Christina's are better but if you don't want I travel all the way to Whitestone, this is pretty good. This place is open 24/7 so that's solid especially if you're studying at SJ and need something to eat. The owner is real nice too. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you're around the area. read more

Not the best deli..but for some reason a lot of cops go and order their breakfast here. I tried their sausage and cheese on a bagel, it was ok not as good as dunkin dounts. The prices are not cheap. Sometimes dunkin dounts is more affordable w/ their deals. read more

I have been coming here for over 15 years. This place is the deli of yesteryear where the guy behind the counter knows your name, your family and where you work. He uses quality meats and focuses on quality and quantity rather than value. For example his turkey heros taste better and weigh almost twice what Subway sandwiches weigh, and he uses that Boars Head. However, Subway $5 footlongs have changed how delis work so he is trying to stay competitive by being open 24 hours, adding that huge list of menu items, trying to offer better value. You can ask him for pretty much any kind of customized substitutions and he won't make you pay an arm and a leg. Good place. read more

Love this place!!!! They have a huge selection of sandwiches which can be overwhelming but I found two sandwiches that I love. The prices are great. my go-to's are the kappa sig with egg, sausage, bacon, cheese, waffle fries, and chipotle sauce on a hero; the other is chipotle which is chicken, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado and chipotle sauce. They have heros named after K-pop bands. The amigos hustle hard in the back, they're always working in full andele mode.Muy deliciouso is what I would say to them in spanglish, but I can't speak English . Anyhow they're open 24 hours a day. The college kids love this place because it sells ample alcoholic beverages. There's a hospital near by that's great for unrivaled wait times ,drunk teenagers and dinner. Four stars because they don't take credit cards. Other than that, this place is great. Friendly staff and the sandwiches are always fresh and delicious. My go-to turkey sub is only $4.90. I'd much rather go to this independently-owned place than 7-11 for beer, soda, etc. but sometimes I don't bother if I'd rather use my card. read more

This place was so much better when Kim was still around. I hope he is doing better things now that he is not with double Js but this place will always be the spot late at night for a really hearty sandwich. The best deli close to St. John's and is very delicious. There are so many different sandwiches to choose from. The BEST ONE IS THE PHI DELTA CHI. It just melts in your mouth and tastes so good with every bite. The TKE and ROTC are also very popular selections. This place is 24hrs and can get very crowded late at night. Their happy hour special on thursday night comes with an arizona tea and pringles. I look forward to thursdays all the time at this place. Cops love coming here as well, you will see a cop inside or parked outside half the time you come. One word: CLUTCH. Double Js has saved my stomach too many times to count read more

Was looking forward to trying a new sandwich spot especially after looking at all the awesome combinations on their menu, expensive for a sandwich place and the flavor just didn't deliver. Probably only around because there aren't other sandwich places too close to this area. If you have a car you're better off spending the extra 5 minutes going to the hillside deli on 179th and getting 2 delicious sandwiches for the price of one mediocre tasting sandwich here. read more

I live around the corner from the store. So I go there often. They make great sandwiches. Food is always fresh

My freshman year of college, I was BROKE. Like actually, honestly broke. At St. John's, that was pretty rare. Most of my classmates were from New York or New Jersey and had their parents around to help them. I couldn't afford to go out or live the dream like I thought I would when I moved to New York, but some weekend, my roommate and I were able to scrape enough money together to go to Double J and get little feasts. It wasn't much, but it made us pretty happy. The employees knew us a little bit and would be friendly with us. We loved walking out there from our nearby dorms. I know now that it is just a regular neighborhood deli serving a variety of people, but to me, it will always be so quintessentially collegiate and it's forever inextricably linked in my mind with the best year of my life. The sandwiches are delicious, the employees are funny, the prices are competitive with any other deli's. What more could you want? :) read more

I go here every morning for my bacon egg and cheese. The husband and wife write my order as I was into the door. Everyone that works the morning shift is so nice. They seem intimidating but they're not. I also come sometimes for a lunch/dinner and create my own hero which is always delish. Totally recommend to anyone around the area. read more

Prices are on the higher side but they do make good sandwiches. Try the pesto chicken special. The cash only policy is annoying.

Most of the sandwiches have the exact same ingredients, but who cares, they're all great.
