This sports bar seems to do everything well. My pulled pork sandwich with fries lunch ($7.99) was served with a smile in ten minutes, and tasted great, with plenty of moist and tasty pork on a buttered and toasted bun with delicious BBQ sauce on the side. The cottage fries were meaty and not greasy - just the way I like them. The service at the bar from Brandi was exemplary - friendly, cheerful, and attentive. I liked the spacious game room, which had two pool tables, two Golden Tee games, a pinball machine, and four dart boards. The L-shaped bar was nicely done, with a large main seating area, plenty of TVs, classic rock background music (not too loud), and a patio. They also offered daily specials, a happy hour (4-6 pm), and event nights including karaoke, poker, darts, and live music. Sweet! read more

Just stopped by on taco Tuesday for a taco and beer. Tacos were excellent. Well seasoned, not greasy, and the shells were full. Only problem was the taco sauce. Made in-house and a little on the bland side. Service was good at the bar but it was a Tuesday afternoon and not busy. This is what I'd call a neighborhood bar, at least during the week. Key points... Food: I ordered wings: bbq and medium buffalo. The bbq was tasty. The medium buffalo was a tiny bit spicy. I could went hot and been ok. But I do like spicy. They have a wide variety of wing flavors. I finally got around to adding the menu pic so you can see the flavors. Atmosphere: Casual neighborhood bar scene on Wednesday. Service: Friendly and professional enough but not overly so. I was given plenty of time to fully check the menu. Decent dive bar in Olathe. Wouldn't mind coming in again with some more friends to check out some of their other specials. I ordered the spicy chicken and while it wasn't too bad taste wise, it was definitely smaller compared to some of the other plates I saw. Looks like they offer a good way to entertain yourself with pool and darts. Karaoke on the weekend looks like it's a popular draw. I'm sure I'll find myself in here again to give a burger a shot and avoid some of the hustle and bustle you see in most bars. read more

Be careful they will probably scam your tips. My boyfriend have been overcharged and nobody helps at all.Somehow the manager who is also the owner never goes there so they cannot help with anything. They will keep asking your contact info and they won't call you back. The sad part is we saw a review about the same thing -staff scamming the tips-before we went there but we ignored. Been to the Double Nickel several times; it's located right across the street from work, so it's convenient. Used to order food for carryout on days I work because their menu/food was actually pretty good. Well, management or ownership must have changed. Went there last night for a friend's birthday. I wasn't drinking because I had to be at work very early the next day. In the hours we were there, my ice tea got refilled once, despite trying several times to get the attention of our server. Ordered the club sandwich, which was supposed to be on grilled bread. Edges were browned but not really crispy; interior of the bread was literally soaked in butter that it drowned out any flavor the sandwich might have had. Also had onion rings. Two of the onion rings were not the meat portion of the onion that you make the onion rings with; they were the protective skin that you peel off and throw away. Breading was bland. I've had better onion rings at Burger King, and those rings suck! Fiance had chicken nachos. Paid an extra $1.99 to get the chicken, which literally was eight bite size pieces of grilled chicken which was drier than the worst red wine you've ever had. Supposed to have sour cream and jalapenos on the side. Neither came to the table. And what's the one thing besides chips that make nachos what it is? Cheese! Ooey, gooey, melted cheese! These nachos had shredded cheese straight from a bag (the cheese was cold) and just sitting on the nachos. No sticking them under a broiler or in the oven to melt it; just apparently dumped part of a bag on top and shipped it out to the floor. Absolutely no flavor at all. Waitresses were too busy either dancing to the karaoke music or talking with regulars to really get their attention for decent service. This will be the last visit to the Double Nickel, unless I hear their management or ownership has changed and the new people give a crap enough to make it closer to what it was before. read more

Sigh. If you want to go someplace and get cold food, attitude as well as charged for things you didn't have or even ORDER, apparently this is the place. I was going to let the cold fries slide and not update my review, until they were replaced by lukewarm curly fries 'crumbs' from the bottom of the bag, and half the portion that was in the original basket (and I ate only TWO small fries from the original basket), and they tasted like they were fried with the chicken gizzards (blech) in the same basket. I could only eat two, and was almost sick. I actually hadn't decided whether or not to update my review, but when I went to pay, it solidified it. It takes a LOT for me to drop something from 3.5 stars to 1! They didn't bring me my ticket and just told me the total. When I questioned it, I was given attitude, and they argued with me that I had the extra item. I also didn't ask for the fries charge to be taken off completely either; I just asked that I wasn't charged the extra $1 or so that the curly fries incur over regular fries. To be fair, the sandwich was slightly above par. I was completely cordial about this...you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. But when I get vinegar thrown back in my face, it's hard....even though I still held my cool. Against my better judgment, and so as not to reflect completely on the people I was sitting with, I gave one waitress a $1 tip (still 15%), and was not thanked, and she turned away from me. WOW. Anyway, I doubt I'll be going back, and if I do, it'll be no food for sure....possibly no drinking either. I am updating my review as I don't want someone else going there on MY word and getting the same service and experience I received tonight. There are plenty of bad bars that are much closer that I could get that experience...and even more good ones that I wouldn't. Bummer. If you do go, I hope you have better luck than I did...and more like my first two experiences rather than my LAST. read more

Seems I'm on a 4 star review trend . I'm always on the hunt for good wings (weakness of mine lol) so I hit Wing Wednesday here and was not disappointed. Wings are .80 on Wednesday. I placed a split order of bbq medium and smoked. The smoked wings were bartender recommended - these were pretty good for smoked. Good flavor with a tiny bite of spice peeking through. If you prefer a 'cleaner' wing eating experience you can't go wrong with these. I did, however, prefer the bbq - guess I just like my wings messy! The bbq was 'just right' for me which means they were more sweet than tangy and not too hot. If you like 'em spicy, I hear u should try the honey haberno! (Maybe I'll live dangerously another night!) Some other patrons also recommended the Korean wings blackened as a good flavor to try. This is a down to earth establishment (think neighborhood dive hang out) with a game room housing a couple of pool tables. Jukebox is free on Wednesdays- win! I think there is also a special on pool as well those days. I did not see happy hour posted on the menu but the bartender mentioned she thought it was 4-6 when I asked. Service seemed just a tad slow at the bar for the number of patrons but not unreasonably so. She was courteous and helpful. Just put your patient-pants on and man up lol. WAITRESS SCAMS TIPS AND NOBODY WILL HELP ME FIX THE ISSUE. I love going to dive bars, especially ones that have fun nights and good crowds! I have been to this bar multiple times, but sadly my most recent time there has ruined this place for me. I went in on Saturday evening for Karaoke Night with a huge reserved party, it was packed and there was only ONE waitress working the whole floor. Since I work in the service industry I know how tough it can be, so I always tip cash. I handed my waitress a VERY large tip and thanked her so much for her hard work, expressing my understanding for her situation. Unfortunately the waitress then took it upon herself to charge my card extra to tip herself... I am VERY upset by this and have called EVERY SINGLE DAY along with emailing to get ahold of someone who can fix this error. They apparently have 'no management team to handle issues' and the owner Mary is the only one who can handle stuff like this. Unfortunately, it took Mary almost two weeks to respond to me. She also did not seem to care enough seeing as she still has not responded to my last email giving her my information so she could look into it. She also did not apologize or seem to honestly care AT ALL. I just wanted a refund. I contacted my credit card company for a refund, but I still wanted to share the poor customer service. read more

This place is conveniently located at I 35 and Santa Fe. It has an on site owner who is willing to bring LIVE MUSIC to Olathe. Thank goodness. I am tired of driving to Westport and north of the river to hear quality live music. Rick has already booked Kansas City's best male vocalist Joe Sampson and his band of choice players who go by the Band Name Kink Alfred, He hosted an open mic night last night and had a girl singing Strawberry wine that was very good, There was also a guy named Alan White who was a joy to listen to. This place has really good food. The menu is very big with lots of variety. They have great appetizers. Be sure to check out the fried mac n cheese and jalapeño cheese balls. Fun Saturday night Karaoke. Comfortable crowd.

First and foremost, this a bar...you don't go there for great service with dinner. That being said, for bar food, it is terrific! The fried chicken dinner is by far the best I've had ANYWHERE, and I've lived all over the country. The "Nickel Nachos" which are made with curly fries instead of chips are also very yummy, but don't get them if you are trying to stick to any semblance of a healthy diet. Okay, back to the bar. Karaoke Fridays are great. The KJ will turn up the mic for quiet but good singers so you can hear them, and turn it down when the drunk bachelorette party gets up to sing - it's just better for everyone! They have live music many Saturdays, though I don't typically go then because I generally find live bands too loud to be able to talk at all with the people I'm with. Drinks are definitely cheaper than other bars. You spend less money that way, but also because service is REALLY slow. There is generally one waitress for the entire bar so she is ridiculously overwhelmed and you'll likely go 1/2 hour between drink orders. Atmosphere is good and laid back. Lots of TV's and one projection where they'll always being showing whatever the big game is. The place is large with low tables up front and high tops with comfy (but old) chairs in back by the decent sized bar. In short, a great dive bar with good food, cheap drinks, and terrible service. This was my favorite place to go until last night.i have been a regular multiple times a week for several months. After some friends left I was about to leave. I was keeping to my self when I was threatened, attacked verbally and physically by other patrons and a male that claimed he was friends with and being paid by the staff bouncer to help him out. The male screamed at me, pushed me to the ground, threatened me, attacked me physically several times and didn't allow me to leave the establishment. My server tried very hard to stop the situation with no luck. The staff bouncer showed up at the very end just to escort me outside the front door. This all took place in front of a packed patio, not one other staff member or patron was a good enough person to step in and stop the attack. This place has been, in my opinion, resurrected in Olathe. We went the other night for a friend's birthday party and I was pleasantly surprised. I had been there in the past and it was kind of a "dive" but it has cleaned up alot. We especially enjoyed their steak dinner, it was affordable and very good! We also enjoyed "baby pitchers" of beer for $2.00 and sang karaoke all night. The staff was friendly and a good time was had by all. I like this place a lot. I went for lunch with a group from work. I live in Indianapolis and spent the last 4 months working on a project in nearby Lenexa. Somebody mentioned they heard of a place that had a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches. I looked online and found that this place had the heart stopper. This burger is 2 1/3 pound patties, mozzarella cheese sticks, bacon, onion rings, bbq sauce all between two grilled cheese sandwiches. The sandwich was great. I was surprised that I could actually taste everything in it. The owner and his wife came out and talked to us for a few minutes. They were both very nice and down to earth. They have an even bigger burger. This place seems like a good place to go hang out, watch the game and have a drink. They also have a diner whch ajoins to the bar and grill. I went there with a friend for karaoke which was actually a pretty good time. I ended up ordering the hot wings which were good but pricey. I came back the following night and order the chicken fried steak dinner... I have to tell you that it was the worst chicken fried steak I've had in my life. I could barely cut the steak with a steak knife. The steak was about the size of my fist and the last bite I took I couldn't even chew it. I spit it out in a napkin. This is the best Karaoke bar in the city! Every time I go in here I have a good time. The food is amazing - you have to try the Heart Stopper... it will clog an artery but it's worth the jolt from the electric paddles. They have texas-hold-em-poker a couple of nights a week. But the real reason I go there is the music and the staff. Karaoke on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Friday and Saturday are usually pretty busy - It's not as busy on Tuesdays so for me Tuesdays are the best because I can try the songs I always want to try. Now they have an open mic night on Wednesdays - which I'm looking forward to trying. Finally - I love the people here. Turn-over and some bars is so high - you might have 3 different bartenders in a night - Jay, Diane, Jenny, and Stacy have been there forever and know everybody's name and drinks. Jenny has got to be the best Karaoke DJ ever! She makes sure everyone has a good time and some how conviences even the most timid to get up and sing. I love her!
