Going to reduce by 1 star due to inadequate service level. As mentioned before, the food itself was decent but I didn't like the tipping practices. Well, family wanted XLB and this place was the closest. I agreed to do online order for takeout. On the checkout page to confirm the order, it also asked for the Tips amount. After I confirmed, a pop-up window told me one of the items was not available. I removed it, confirmed, and what I didn't realize until too late, the Tips amount was not updated! It was still showing 10% number based on the previous total before I removed the unavailable item. Too late now. Didn't want to make it a big deal. I got there, asked the server about my order, was told it was not ready. Waited for 15 minutes. My fault for waiting that long. No update from the server. Darn doom scrolling social media got me to lose track of time. I finally asked a 2nd server. He went to check and a couple minutes later came out with my order ... or so I thought. I was about to leave but noticed the number of boxes in the bag did not feel right. Went back in and confirmed I was given the wrong one. He went to check and simply picked up another bag from the Takeout shelves, which I noticed had been there since I first walked in. So much for "To Insure Proper Services" .... First time at this location! We were charging our car across the street (Electrify America) and decided to take a quick walk for a quick bite! It was a late lunch on Friday and not crowded. We were greeted with a smile, led to our table, and given the lowdown on their menu. They have lunch special combos - I ordered the wonton in chicken soup, xlb, Ube drink. Hubby ordered the Dan Dan noodles, xlb, and a passion fruit tea. Also ordered the cucumber side. All were delicious! The chicken soup on its own was pretty amazing. Great deal for a lunch combo! I signed in through the app, and after waiting about 10 minutes, we received a message saying it was our turn (waiter confirmed also that it will take us less than 10 mins). However, two families who arrived after us were promised tables before us. When I pointed out that we had already been notified that it was our turn, I was told we would need to wait another 10 minutes. I almost never leave reviews, but after this experience, it felt necessary. We visited Dough Zone in South San Jose with pretty high expectations given how large and well-known the chain is, but unfortunately this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had in a long time. The food itself was average at best, around a 3/5. We initially ordered four dishes: the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork & Shrimp Potstickers, Beef Pancake Roll, and Green Onion Soy Sauce Noodles. The Green Onion Soy Sauce Noodles came out after about 15 minutes, and the Xiao Long Bao came roughly 10 minutes later. Nothing came out after.  About 30 minutes in, we also ordered fried rice since we were so hungry, but that didn't come out either. Only 40 minutes later did a waiter finally approach us after we were sitting there for long. We voiced our concern, but nothing really happened afterward and no explanation or apology was given. We would also hear them approaching other tables that were seated after to apologize , but not us. Another waiter came by about 10 minutes later. We voiced our concerns again, and only then did the fried rice and potstickers finally arrive shortly after that. The Beef Pancake Roll still took another 20 minutes after speaking with the waiters. By the time all the food finally arrived, we were completely frustrated and disappointed. The service was incredibly disorganized, slow, and inattentive from start to finish. We left immediately after eating and honestly felt very unsatisfied with the entire experience. What makes this especially disappointing is that Dough Zone is such a large chain with many locations, so we expected at least a baseline level of service and coordination. I loved the order system, so easy to make ad-hoc additions and they appear in a few minutes. Very open and airy seating area. Friendly staff. Decided to finally try this place. They had so many great reviews but in my opinion it was very mid. We ordered the spicy wontons, they had no spice to them and it felt very watered down and lacked the rich flavor. The pork and shrimp dumplings were okay, nothing special to them. The spicy noddles had the same flavoring as the spicy wontons and lacked. The cucumbers were good. The services was fairly fast, our food came out quickly. We loved dough zone in Cupertino and decided to check the branch here. Some of our favorites were not available the day we visited like the minced chicken noodles and chicken soup dumplings. But rest were and we went wild again ordering a whole array of dishes as portions are tiny. What stood out were the noodles. They had a slight bite to them, not aldente but a bit more undercooked. They didn't have a good mouth feel and were tough. The epic chilli oil from Cupertino was present here as well but was somehow very underwhelming. Not sure if they make these sauces locally in each branch but this was definitely not as umami rich or tasty. All the noodle dishes we ordered had a sauce- soy, sesame or chilli oil and they didn't adhere to the noodles at all, the noodles were just lying on a saucy mess. We got the cucumbers this time. They were sweet and salty with a good crunch on them. The chive dumplings were a disappointment as well. They had a raw dough in the center. read more

I've been to this Dough Zone location a couple of times. I think it's good, not great. Often the service is very weird. Some dishes take forever. Sometimes they are just out of things. Last time I went half the tables were covered with dirty dishes. There appeared to be only one server. The food was so slow to come out. My only squawk is that they want to use an app to order, and you have to ask for the paper menus. I use a dumb-phone--it doesn't handle apps. The food is just great, though. I've visited this place a few times and have been satisfied every time. This visit was on Christmas evening, and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. The space was spacious and clean, and the staff were warm and attentive. The food portions are small, but most dishes are quite tasty. Braised Pig Ear The pig ears are sliced very thin, well-seasoned, and not greasy--highly recommended. Cold Noodles with Sesame Dressing The portion is small, but the noodles have a nice chewy texture. The sesame dressing is evenly coated on the noodles, delivering a fragrant and flavorful bite. Pan-Fried Pork Buns Thin-skinned with plenty of juicy filling, the buns also have a crispy bottom. Definitely worth trying. Five-Spice Beef Shank This dish was too salty, and the beef was dry and tough. Not recommended. Pan-Fried Beef Pies I decided to try these because of the promotional pictures in the restaurant, but they were a letdown. First, the wait time was long. Then, the crust was dry and hard, and the beef filling was mediocre. Not recommended. Spicy (Ma La) Noodles I originally thought it would be a dry noodle dish, but it turned out to be soup noodles. I wanted to rework my review for Dough Zone! I went last year and thought everything we had was okay. I gave it another try and enjoyed it more; the steamed and pan-fried dumplings were great, and there was nothing to complain about. Most importantly, the price here is unbeatable. Came here on a weekend to try this place and wow, it was packed. I think for 2 people we waited about 20-25 minutes. The good thing is that you can walk around the shopping plaza while waiting for your table to be called. We ordered soup dumplings, spicy beef shank, pork dumplings in chicken broth and pan fried chive dumplings. The soup dumplings were good and the taste was as expected. The spicy beef shank was surprisingly good too, it reminded me of eating a softer beef jerky haha. The pork dumplings in chicken broth was so hearty and flavorful. A good soup dish to have when it's cold. Now, the pan fried dumplings took the longest to come out and was probably my least favorite dish. It didn't really taste like anything to me, so the anticipation of it taking longer to come out didn't do it any justice.
