We really love the cucumbers! We get 2 orders for the 4 of us. Went on a weeknight and there was no wait. Everything is good. The onion soy sauce noodles was the only thing that didn't have too much flavor. Good for small kids maybe. The beef noodle was good. The beef was so tender. Dough Zone gets the job done without needing to go far, but it's nothing more than that! Decent menu with various options. We've only ordered takeout here. Make sure to ask for chili oil and soy sauce when getting to-go. CHICKEN POTSTICKERS: 5/5 ($6.95/6pcs) + MUST try! Best thing on the menu in my opinion + Juicy with a nice crunch from the potsticker skirt BEEF PANCAKE ROLL: 4/5 ($8.95) + Flakey and flavorful! Pretty solid but doesn't stand out to me CHICKEN STEAMED DUMPLINGS: 3.5/5 + Skinnier than the boiled dumplings, much like a potsticker shape BOILED PORK AND SHRIMP DUMPLINGS: 3.5/5 + Pretty standard, decent addition to the meal if you want some shrimp PORK WONTON W/ CHILI SAUCE: 3.5/5 ($6.95/6pcs) + The chili sauce is decent but not as balanced as DTF's PORK XIAO LONG BAO: 3/5 ($8.95/8pcs) + Not very memorable, the skin doesn't hold up too well read more

Delicious! I was visiting home and got a chance to try this place for lunch after my parents raved about it (it was their 3rd time eating at the restaurant). I knew it was going to be good because of what my parents had said but also because I overheard several customers saying that it wasn't their first time eating at the Dough Zone. We started with the sweet and sour cucumber. It was perfectly cut and seasoned and was very refreshing. After that we had the rest of our menu items, which included the pork soup dumplings, Q-Bao, shrimp and pork pot stickers, Dan Dan noodles, and the banana naan. Everything was great. My favorites by far, though, were the Q-bao and the Dan Dan noodles. I really enjoyed the texture of the Q-bao since it's a pan fried bun. The factor was also on point. The Dan Dan noodles are super flavorful and chewy and the tingle is a fun experience. In total we got 8 orders (1 of each except for 2 orders of the pot stickers and Dan Dan noodles) and it came out to around $60. All of the staff was lovely, especially the staff member who seemed to be in charge (I cannot remember their name but they have built a great rapport with my parents). It's super clean on the inside and decorated nicely as well. I'm looking forward to the best time I can dine in! read more

So came back to try again, a little better, but still some issues. Cucumbers weren't sauced properly, seemed like they drizzled it while it was still wet so it didn't stick to the cucumber and felt like eating raw cucumbers. I've been to the Dough Zone in Cupertino Main Street, and ever since then I've been waiting with bated breath for the Almaden Ranch Marketplace location to open! I came here for Saturday lunch with a friend who had never had xiaolongbao/soup dumplings or anything remotely similar to the tapas-style Taiwanese meals that Dough Zone fills the niche for. I ordered way too much out of excitement, but I couldn't help it! I ordered their broccoli, sweet and spicy kale, dandan noodles, and chicken wontons. My friend ordered the Q Bao and green onion pancakes. Everything was so delicious and filling, I was really happy that the quality of service and food was the same as the Cupertino location. Dough Zone - South San Jose is definitely my favorite location compared to other locations around Bay Area We got there around 6:30pm on Saturday and there was no line. We weren't hungry but still want sth to snack on so we ordered a few dishes from the menu. The crab xiao long bao was okay but the crab flavor wasn't too strong. Soupy and hot, I like it but not the best I had The spicy beef pancake was crispy outside, not too oily which I appreciated it. However it would be better if the filling was more meat, too much veggies in my opinion Kale salad with spicy garlic dressing was my least favorite of the night, no hint of garlic at all and it's way too sweet. I can tell they use the premade sweet and spicy sauce at the store for the sauce. Totally understand the convenient but at least be more creative adding more garlic or fish sauce to adjust the taste. Doughzone: A Worthy Alternative to the World-Famous Din Tai Fung If you're a fan of Din Tai Fung but find it hard to get a table--or are simply looking for a solid alternative--Doughzone is an excellent option, especially for those of us living in South San Jose or elsewhere in the Bay Area. Originally founded in Washington State, Doughzone has grown rapidly, now boasting 13 locations in Washington, 3 in Oregon, and 5 in Northern California--including several spread throughout the Bay Area. They've also expanded into Texas with 4 new locations. In contrast, Din Tai Fung has just one Bay Area location in Santa Clara, where long waits and limited reservations are the norm due to overwhelming demand. While Din Tai Fung has a stronger presence in Southern California, this review focuses on Doughzone's local presence--especially the South San Jose location, which has become my go-to. Doughzone does get busy--especially during lunch, early dinner, and weekends--but they handle the flow with efficiency. Their electronic waitlist system and quick service make for a smooth experience. From my visits, even at peak times, the wait rarely exceeds 15 minutes. Once you're seated, food arrives swiftly, which helps them serve large crowds without compromising quality. Now, let's talk about the food. Their Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) are exceptional--easily on par with Din Tai Fung's famous version. That alone makes Doughzone a standout in the region. Add in a friendly and responsive staff who are always happy to accommodate reasonable requests, and it's easy to see why I've become a regular customer over the past three years. To be transparent, when I first tried Doughzone shortly after their South San Jose location opened over a year ago, I wasn't impressed. I even gave feedback to the Cupertino store manager at the time, expressing that the kitchen had room for improvement. They assured me they were working to raise the standard--and they clearly meant it. Fast forward to mid-April 2025: I decided to give them another shot this week. The result? I was blown away by how much the Xiao Long Bao quality had improved--it was absolutely spot-on. So much so, in fact, that I returned the very next day for round two. If you're craving authentic soup dumplings or simply want a high-quality alternative to Din Tai Fung without the hassle, do yourself a favor and check out Doughzone. What drew me here was the lunch deal. You get two items and a drink for less than twenty bucks. I went with my mom and toddler, and we tried all three lunch specials. We barely had any food left over. It was a quiet day, so we were well taken care of. The servers were very kind they also apologized for running out of a drink I wanted. Food was cold, service sucks. The food took extremely long to come out which while it was packed, items would take 30 minutes to come out. All items were cold, the xlb was the only thing that was remotely warm. Everything had no flavor, the green onion pancake was just greese. The dan dan noodles and spicy wontons has barley enough sauce. I was incredibly disappointed with everything because I have been to serveral other locations and loved it. It also seems like other reviews agree with me. I paid 80 dollars and have never regretted a meal so much in my life. read more

My friend and I arrived here on a Wednesday around 7 pm. They don't take reservations ahead, so you have to put your name down on their Yelp waitlist. We waited about 20-25 minutes before getting inside and sitting down. Was excited to try this new dim sum place in south San Jose since they had their grand opening and I tried their other location in north San Jose. PARKING: It's hard to find parking during dinner time that's close to the restaurant, but there's nearby parking which is within under a 5 minute walking distance. Just make sure to lock your cards and hide valuables as the plaza has warning signs about car break-ins. AMBIENCE: It's a new restaurant, so everything is well furnished with cute decor by using wooden dim sum containers, wooden chairs and benches for couples, groups of 4 or more, and bright lighting with clear windows for natural light to flow in. SERVICE: The service was quick and easy. We only had to escalate an order since it was an extra item and our first waitress was nowhere to be seen for 10 minutes and had to double check with another waitress about our order status. It's a new restaurant with hard working staff that can be prone to make mistakes when moving through the restaurant floor in the right spaces between tables and dropping utensils on the floor. ORDERS: The orders are why I rated the venue 3 stars. My friend and I ordered 4 items: - Beef Pancake Roll: Basically a burrito cut diagonally. It was filling for sure but the meat filling was dry and needed seasoning. The shell itself was crunchy but had mostly lettuce and few green onions. -Pork Xiao Long Bao and Pork with Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao: I'm placing these in the same section because I honestly didn't taste the difference in meat flavor. The bao texture was dry and didn't seem fresh. Not a lot of soup packed inside as well when I pierced it with chopsticks. -Pork Wonton with hot and sour sauce: my favorite order of the night! Wontons that tasted fresh, chewy and lots of meat in ratio to the wrapping. Great flavors of spice from sauce that it was soaked in!! RATING: It's a nice place to try once and closer than any other dim sum places near me. read more

Service was really slow at noon. There were many empty tables but they weren't sitting anyone. We ordered the spicy wonton in hot & sour sauce and wasn't too impressed. Will get chili sauce next time. We like the Q-bao better than the ground beef fried pancake. But definitely wish there are more juice in them and xlb too. The noodles are all too sweet and portion is very small. Don't think we'll be back. P.S. Super classic set up inside, nice and clean! Great lighting and kind staff. Got seated right away on a Tuesday afternoon and given the physical copy of the menu also with the online QR code version. They are currently starting this lunch deal that has three options, which comes with one of their soup dumplings, a small appetizer, and a cold drink. My coworker and I got options A and C with a couple of different other items. We decided to try their XLB dumplings, but I found them to be excessively doughy (hence the name Dough Zone). I wished there was more emphasis on the rich soup and the meat inside rather than the bun overshadowing the flavors. During our visit, we were fortunate to take advantage of a promotion where the first order was only $6--an excellent deal for XLB. However, I'm uncertain if this promotion is still available. Among the dishes we sampled, I particularly enjoyed the crab and pork XLB dumplings. The combination of flavors was delightful, with the strong seafood essence from the crab harmonizing beautifully with the pork. In contrast, the pork dumplings had a more pronounced ginger flavor, which I found a bit overwhelming. We also ordered noodles, which had a respectable spice level that catered to my friends who are sensitive to heat. However, they felt the dish could benefit from more depth in flavor, as it leaned more toward being oily than truly savory. Lastly, we tried the pan-fried dumplings. Wow, Dough Zone is popping up everywhere! This is a nice change to DTF, especially since the wait at DTF is always so long, unless you go right when they open. I've only been to 2 Dough Zone locations-- this one and in Cupertino, and there's hardly ever a wait. To be honest, I still prefer DTF because I like the thinner dumpling wrappers, but the xlb and dumplings here are still very good and flavorful. My introduction to Dim Sum was in Oakland's China Town long before it became mainstream throughout the Bay Area. My Grandfather owned a business there and dim sum was my lunch of choice. I loved the variety. As dim sum restaurants opened in the Santa Clara valley I made it a point to try them all. When I heard The Dough Zone was opening close to my home it immediately went to my must try list. We were greeted by friendly staff and immediately seated. Water and menus were delivered in short order. We chose Kale Salad, Dan Dan Noodles, Soup Dumplings, QBao and Green Onion Pancake. Each item was carefully crafted and well seasoned though portion size was smaller than I am used to at most dim sum restaurants that I frequent. Price was a little on the high side for the portions that we were served. While I'm not mad at what I got I don't see this being a regular stop for me and my family. read more

The interior and service is really good. Everyone is very nice and the food looked very appetizing under the bright lighting. I just don't understand how they season their food. It tastes very not Chinese because the seasoning is all wrong. It tastes like they just put soy sauce in everything. I was thrown off by all the dishes because the seasonings weren't right like with the black bean noodles, the sauce didn't taste like the usual black bean noodle sauce I'm used to. We've been to this location a few times and it's been good but not sure what happened the other night. The XLBs came out completely deflated with no soup whatsoever. We asked why and the waitress brought us new ones - they were undercooked and so doughy it was even worse. We have stomachaches for 2 days after. We usually come to Dough Zone when we crave XLB but don't want to make the trek to Din Tai Fung-it's a decent second option! Enjoy the potstickers and dumplings here; the green onion pancake is delish! We've had the noodles a few times; they're alright; but I have had better. Service is always attentive and quick. We ordered 6 dishes ( in order of best to meh): Beef stew noodles Pork wontons soup in chicken broth Pork & shrimp potstickers Chicken soup dumplings Pork soup dumplings Beef steamed dumplings The soup dumplings were rated low just because the cool down pretty quickly, so we just need to eat them first next time. We have to this spot several times. We pretty much tried all items on their menu. We are a large group and the wait time is not bad typically we are seated within 15min max. They slowly went from having their own number system for waiting in line, to now using yelp as a waitlist. Staff is always great, but it is hard to wave them down, as I often get confused between who can take my check, who can I ask for sauce or water, etc...

You definitely need to get the Black Gold Salty Egg Yolk Buns. They look cool with the black and gold style, and the molten salted egg yolk center is perfectly rich without being overly sweet. The Lychee Shrimp Balls are super unique too; they look exactly like real lychees on the outside but are stuffed with a snappy shrimp paste that isn't greasy at all. For the classic stuff, the Har Gaw and Siu Mai hit the spot--the skins hold up well without tearing and the pieces are nice and plump. The Baked BBQ Pork Buns are also great, with that crispy, sweet polo-style topping and a good amount of savory pork filling inside. First, let's start with cleanliness. The bathroom was disgusting. If this is where the cooks relieve and wash their hands, yikes! Literally a biohazard. Trash overflowing and everything was sticky and the toilets were very dirty. Just yikes. Also if you look at the dining inspection score on the Santa Clara county website, it scored a literal 20/100. This is worse than competitors for kitchen cleanliness. This explains the many food poisoning reviews here. We got served raw food and things that looked a bit spoiled here and luckily we spotted it and didn't get sick. Read the inspection report and it's really disgusting. I'm not sure how this place is still open. I get service at Chinese restaurants serving primarily Chinese immigrants isn't top tier, but this place takes it to the next level in being abysmal. The front desk staff is belligerent and they DO NOT RESPECT YOUR RESERVATION and make you stand outside and wait for up to 30 minutes. This happened to us a couple times. Also if you are an English speaker/non Chinese speaker, the front desk staff only speaks mandarin for the most part so good luck too if you are a Cantonese speaker. They also hold and reserve table numbers for refused to jump the waitlist and reservations. That was just the host staff, the waiters were not better. Waiters were very hard to flag down and sometimes they see you and ignore you because they don't want to serve you and do their job. They also are too busy sometimes and seem overworked so their employer (a very rich duo of brothers) need to treat their employees better and train them better so they have a better attitude for customers. We also had one waiter when cleaning our table poured our water glasses into a bowl then dumped in onto the carpet onto the ground which was a first for me and my family. This was very memorable in a bad way. The environment is also very uncomfortable to dine in. The seating is packed in so tight that it's so loud you can't hear the other people at your table. It's also a fire hazard since several emergency exits were visibly blocked by tables, chairs, or people crowding at the entrance. I've seen reviews here and on Google claiming to have reported the restaurant to the fire marshal. This seems to be true because there were several times the restaurant de densified the dining room before densifying it again weeks later. If a fire broke out, this would be deadly due to exits being blocked and the restaurant being over capacity. This place is just waiting for something really bad to happen. This place is also very expensive and claims to be an elevated authentic dim sum experience targeting Chinese immigrants and ABCs. And it sucks for the price paid given the food, service, and environment (and the literal fire danger they put you in) Finally, as many have complained here, there is a mandatory 18% gratuity and they demand a tip on top of it. They hide it from their menu so you don't find out, but that's illegal in California to hide a mandatory gratuity. Honestly, the gratuity isn't worth it for the nasty service and food anyways. The only have it because the owners know their restaurant is so bad they have to put a gratuity because otherwise people won't pay tips. What a joke of a business, I'm not sure why so many people still support it by singing its praises here and patronizing a restaurant that clearly doesn't care about either its employees or customer.

I recently dined at Dough Zone in their new South San Jose location on a Friday. They close at 10 PM, and I arrived at 7 PM, but I had to wait until 8 PM to be seated. To my disappointment, I was informed that they had run out of their signature dish, Xiao Long Bao. Apparently they ran out at 5:30 PM. This was a letdown, as it's what they are known for. According to one of the workers, this is a common occurrence, mainly because they don't make their XLB fresh like Din Tai Fung and others. 1) Opting for the Q-Bao, it turned out to be decent, but it didn't blow me away. 2) The Spicy Beef Flank, while not terrible, was quite different from what I'm accustomed to, and I probably wouldn't order it again. It was too thinly sliced and not marinated. Seems like they just poured sauce over it. 3) The Beef Noodle Soup was simply average in my book. Don't expect anything close to Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. In terms of value, Dough Zone is budget-friendly, offering quantity over top-notch quality. They even provided minced ginger for the XLB, but, whoops, there weren't any XLB to accompany it - a bit odd to me, as I'm more accustomed to thinly sliced ginger. On a positive note, the server was understanding when I shared my disappointment about missing out on the XLB. She kindly offered me a $5 coupon for my next visit. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, every part of our experience was truly exceptional. The staff, the store manager, Thomas, the food, the relaxing atmosphere, and the service (Mia, our waitress) all exceeded our expectations. The manager went above and beyond to ensure we were completely satisfied. He personally greeted us at the door, set aside a few dishes to make sure they wouldn't run out before we arrived, and was incredibly attentive throughout our stay there. Even when we couldn't say goodbye in person, he took the time to reach out and make sure we felt appreciated, welcomed, and was looking forward to seeing us again. It's clear that Thomas is not only kind and caring but also deeply passionate about his work and the happiness of his guests. The entire team at this restaurant radiates warmth and enthusiasm (with a manager like Thomas, it is easy to see why)--it's obvious they genuinely enjoy their work and have great camaraderie. I've been on a dumpling hunt in the South Bay since the best dumplings are still in San Francisco, and I thought I'd give this local spot a try. Unfortunately, it was just as disappointing as others in the area. First, they advertised lunch specials with signature items like their famous Dan Dan noodles, but those weren't available. In fact, about six items were missing from the lunch menu, including beef rolls and other dim sum options. That was pretty shocking. On top of that, the place itself felt dirty, with sticky seating and tables that hadn't been cleaned properly. What they did have on the menu was okay, but by then I was so bothered by the overall experience that it was hard to enjoy the meal. The only highlight was the great service, which was attentive and friendly. But even that couldn't make up for everything else. Honestly, don't waste your time here. It felt like someone dumped spoonfuls of salt into them. This was one of my favorite meals from the Cupertino location, not being able to enjoy them was a bit disappointing. They were super nice and suggested to swap out the meal for something else! * The staff overall was helpful and friendly. However, they were not very welcoming to my service-dog when we just arrived and needed to confirm with their manager if we could come in. I stumbled upon this restaurant for the first time last Saturday and, while I had never heard of Dough Zone before, I decided to give this place a shot... I'm glad I did! The staff was very attentive and took their time to answer my questions, walk me through the menu, and offer recommendations. Based on their recommendations, I decided to try the pork and crab soup dumplings and the Dan Dan noodles. The dumplings came out fresh and in a timely manner, while the Dan Dan noodles offered both texture and flavor. I also noticed that, while the menu advertised six dumplings per serving; they gave me an extra two on the house (eight total). Based on my first experience, which includes the staff, the food, and the environment, I'm definitely a repeat customer. We got the pork xiao long bao, pork wontons, pork & shrimp potstickers, and cucumber salad, and everything was fresh and flavorful. It just so happened the people at Dough Zone have been workshopping their Yibin Noodles so I was happy to give it a try. To start, the cook on the noodle was great! Nice chewy noodles.
