I love DZ! Talk about a great destination when riding bikes! This location is located right off the Burke Gilman trail and has bike parking right outside. I've been here a few times, but my most recently trip I discovered a few new dishes that I cannot get off my mind!!! My favorite dish is the Chicken potstickers. They have the typical soft dumpling wrapper, but unlike most, they have this delicious & crunchy top shell. They are amazing!!!!!! We ordered one set, but the next time we go, 2 orders are a must!!! My other new discovery is the DanDan Noodles! The flavor was delicious with a thick and flavorful sauce. (By far the best noodle dish I've had at DZ!) We of course, started with the cucumbers and an appetizer, and I didn't love the spiral, but they were still tasty. For our entrée, we got some noodles some wontons, some dumplings, the scallion pancakes, XLB and the burrito. Everything was delicious. We wouldn't get the burrito again, but it was good to try. I love Dough Zone and love that they're expanding so much, only one of their franchises have disappointed me. I think this location is a bit smaller than most, but it's cozy and often has room. The motivation behind the creation of Dough Zone was a desire to bring traditional homemade Chinese comfort food into a modern setting. The dishes served at Dough Zone are the perfect size for customers to share and try a variety of different food without breaking the bank. I absolutely LOVE their soup dumplings!!! They're always filled with so much soup, with great flavor, the perfect thinness of the wrapper...thin yet so strong to hold all that yummy goodness inside! The Q-baos also hold so much soup inside them! They always seem to have the perfect brown crisp to the bottom of them. Love their pig ear appetizer. It's an acquired taste, but they cut it so thin; I love how chewy and flavorful this dish is! Very disappointed. We were shopping near by so we decided to have lunch here. All the side dishes except dumplings were just okay. We ordered dandan noodles, cucumber salad, Chinese crape, Xiao Long Bao, chicken fried dumplings. All of the side dishes were too sweet and the portion was so small for the price. Both dumplings were good but not as good as other competitors. We were not that hungry and we thought we ordered too much food but turned everything was so small so we easily finished our food. Dough Zone is a popping dumpling spot that will remind you of a DTF but for more typical Chinese basics like Dan Dan noodles and beef rolls. We came late on a Tuesday and there was a 15 min wait to get seated. Ordered takeout then and there and while it said 30 min ETA, fortunately was 15. XLB were decent. A small bit of soup and slightly thicker wrapping vs what you'd get at DTF. Dan Dan noodles were solid - can always add more spice to give it a kick but good chew. Beef rolls were just ok - packaged poorly as it was wrapped like a taco and then packaged upside down while beef quality and sauce was just ok. I am not one to throw around 5 stars, most places deserve 3.75 - 4.25 in my opinion. When my family ate here after a visit to the University of Washington I was not only pleasantly surprised, but actually blown away with how good the food was. Our order consisted of the cucumber salad (2x), Pork Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), Chicken Potstickers, Pan Fried Wontons, Green Onion Soy Sauce Noodles, and the YiBin Noodles. Ironically the YiBin Noodles were the least favorite of the group, but that could also be that we getting full at this point. What also impressed me was the timing of everything. Just as we were finished with one dish the next dish came out which helped keep the table from being cluttered. The staff was professional, the food was wonderful, the timing was spot on... the only real complaint is parking for this location and that isn't their fault. It sounds incredibly frustrating to arrive with your family 15 minutes before "closing," only to be turned away without a clear explanation. It's a sure-fire way to lose a loyal customer. We arrived at 8:45 PM with a family of four, only to be told they were no longer seating people and were only doing takeout. There is absolutely no mention of an early seating cutoff on their website, Google listing, or Yelp. When I asked the host why this isn't posted anywhere, he just shrugged his shoulders and didn't answer. If your hours say open until 9:00 PM, you should seat customers until 9:00 PM. This chain's quality has declined significantly over the last few years--I guess it's officially time for us to break up. read more

I've enjoyed my visits to Dough Zone in Bellevue and Seattle's Chinatown International District. I actually prefer this indie chain over the international sensation Din Tai Fung. This was our first visit to the University District site. After picking up The Homie from campus, we were able to score on nearby street parking (10/10/23). I was absolutely amazed at all the new development since I had not traveled to this stretch of 25th proximate to University Village in a while. This Dough Zone had a modern interior, but had big view windows of the adjacent Ravenna Woods. We were promptly seated, no reservations and no wait which was a major plus. The Homie opted for a milk tea ($5.50), pork wontons w/chili sauce ($6.95), spicy beef shank ($7.95), and noodles with onion soy sauce ($7.50). I leaned towards my favorites and seemed to hit the spot on that particular cold, rainy early evening. My first Dough Zone experience was awesome! We came as a party of 5 on a Sunday at 7 pm and there was no wait (we joined the Yelp waitlist 5 minutes before we got there). All the dishes we ordered were delectable, and the portions were generous; we ended up taking a few boxes home. Standouts of the meal included the pork xiao long bao, dan dan noodles, braised pig ear, and kale with sesame dressing, We also ordered onion soy noodles, chicken xiao long bao, fried wontons, vegetable potstickers, pan fried chive dumplings, and green onion pancake. The xiao long bao tasted amazing with their ginger paste (you have to ask for it separately) mixed with vinegar, as well as the chili crisp. The dan dan noodles were truly "numbing" but not overwhelmingly spicy, and the braised pig ear was very flavorful. I really liked the kale on the side, it provided a nice balance to the meal and the dressing was to die for. There were a ton of folks here in the evening, especially on a rainy day dim sum hits different. There was a whole row of couples on dates as well as a larger party of 10+ so I definitely see this as a great date or larger group dinner venue. I will definitely be back! read more

The food selection is great. There are so many Dough Zones around Seattle so it's a convenient go-to for dinner or lunch. I went to the one in U-dist. We ordered the Pork XLB, Minced Pork Noodles. Q Bao, and the Banana Naan Bread. The XLB is solid-- For XLB, I slightly prefer the taste of Supreme Dumplings and Din Tai Fung, but you can't beat the price here. The portions are smaller than other similar restaurants, but it's way more affordable and good enough if you want to try other dishes. My experience with the service is average-- the servers can get quite busy during the dinner rush and you have to really try to get their attention. Came here on Christmas Day and it wasn't too crowded. I can see how parking could be an issue, but there was a good amount of street parking on this day. We got the chicken potstickers (3/5, the bottom fried skirt wasn't as crispy and flakey as I would have liked, but the filling was good), broccoli (2/5, nothing special, comes with a side of oyster sauce), wonton soup (3/5, pretty average, soup tastes good for a cold day), pig ears (5/5, loveeed how long the strips were. The pig ears were thin but crunchy and perfectly spicy), and two servings of XLB (5/5, couldn't really taste the crab in the pork and crab XLB so I would recommend just sticking with pork, but loved how much soup they were able to get into the each one. The filling was delicious and the dough was perfectly chewy). Service was nice and the food came out quickly. However, for the provided free sides of ginger, I wish it came in fresh strips rather than it being pounded down and clumped together. read more

I met a couple of friends here for an early dinner the other night, and wasn't as impressed with the experience as I've been at other DZ locations. This spot only opened recently, though, so perhaps they're ironing out some challenges. First, the location is just in a bad place. There was no parking on the street, so I decided to go to a parking garage down the street that had a clear sign that said "retail parking" with an arrow pointing towards the garage entrance. I entered this area, found a spot, and headed to dinner. Later, I returned to a note on my car that it was private parking and I was about to be towed! This isn't technically DZ's fault but hey, pick a location with better parking? There were NO signs in the garage saying I was in a private spot. So weird! I would recommend they add a sign in front with info on where to park. Would have been quite upsetting to get towed! Anyway, back to DZ. We were able to snag a table via Yelp Waitlist so YAY! Service was kinda slow but soon enough we had a couple of drinks and some food ordered. My dining companions had never been to DZ before and weren't familiar with how to order; luckily I'd been to a couple other locations so knew how it worked. It was odd that our server didn't engage with us at all, or ask if we'd been there and had any questions or knew how the ordering works. The food was hit and miss. Their iconic cucumber salad was, of course, delish as always. We also ordered some shaved beef in five spice; green onion pancakes; dumplings in chili sauce, dan dan noodles, and of course the star of the show: soup dumplings (xiao long bao). The beef appetizer was ok but not really my fave due to being sorta tough and jerky-like, the spice was nice though; dan dan noodles were pretty flavorless (okay, a LOT flavorless); the pancakes were ok but not very hot and not many green onions in them; the dumplings in sauce were pretty good; and the xiao long bao were not good at all. This was a little shocking to me, to be honest! The dumplings were cold, which made them pretty unappetizing to begin with. The dough was super thick and hard to chew through, and the soup was also lukewarm and just not that good. I left feeling pretty disappointed, especially since I brought friends who had never been to DZ before. The vegetable dumplings still have chicken powder I believe, and I think the waiter said the salad dressing also has chicken powder. Like why? There's a few vegetarian options that are marked on the menu, but yea, didn't love it. The prices are so cheap though, so if you eat meat and are ballin on a budget you might like this place. Also, and maybe I'm just being picky, but I didn't love that they brought our dessert out in the middle of the meal. They literally brought out a few items, dessert and then a few more items. At least bring out all of the appetizer/entree food first. Also, service was mediocre and the bathroom was gross. Not it. Came for lunch with my family. There was a small wait when we arrived and what appeared to be a long wait when we left, so come prepared to hang out prior to being seated. Once inside the restaurant has large tables to accommodate ordering multiple baskets of dumplings. We enjoyed a variety of bao, noodles, salads, soup dumplings, and more. Everything arrived at the table around the same time, as opposed to coming out in waves as it would in a traditional restaurant which meant some dumplings cooked quite a bit before I got to them and eating felt a bit rushed.
