Douglas and Sons was prompt in reaching out to us to make an appointment. They assessed the blockage and cleared the drain, which was covered by HomeServe. They also noted that the drain was installed incorrectly, and would continue to give us problems. All I can say is read the One Star reviews. Then read the amazing customer service company representative, Lori, in her responses. My family witnessed first-hand what happened, and egregious claims made by Lori afterwards casting blame on our family when it was their plumber (very kind, but inexperienced) who messed up. The plumber stated "I messed up. I will pay for this to repair it" before Lori and her friends stepped in and told AHS that they refused to work with us. If you use this company, document everything, and be prepared for a contentious ending when they begin to cast blame on you for their mistakes. I wish you well, Lori. Edited after Lori's usual bob and weave technique: Here's what the whole issue comes down to: Douglas and Sons only snaked a clogged drain 13 feet. They created a massive leak that destroyed the kitchen ceiling. This led to emergency measures to cut out ceiling drywall in order to prevent mold, as several members of the household have serious breathing issues. Douglas and Sons could have looked at the ceiling -- had they not said they were "unable to fix the issue until next week," despite having caused the leak. We actually liked the plumber who came. He was kind and tried his best, but this should have been a two-person job with someone more experienced. After the leak happened, his exact words were: "This is 100% my fault. I will pay for the repairs myself." After D&S told our home warranty provider they could no longer work with us -- effectively getting off the hook for the cost of repairing their mistake -- we brought in a different plumbing company. (And yes, to clarify, the provider was HomeServe, not AHS. My mistake. The point still stands.) That team found the blockage at 15 feet, snaked 30 feet to be safe, and solved the issue in under 10 minutes. In Lori's response to my brother's review, she made false claims that we had done something similar before at a different unit, and that the company had "flagged" us. Here's the truth: they were one of several contractors who gave an estimate. We chose a different company for unrelated reasons. That's not suspicious -- that's normal. Lori, if you have evidence to back up your claim, please share it. Otherwise, don't accuse us of something that never happened. D&S also gave different explanations to different people. To us, they blamed the layout of the house, saying it was too outdated to fix. For context, the home was built in the 1990s. To HomeServe, they claimed they didn't feel comfortable working with us -- a convenient excuse to avoid paying for the ceiling damage. And in Lori's Yelp reply, she painted a completely different picture again. All of this points to one thing: Douglas and Sons is not a trustworthy or professional company. They manipulate situations to avoid accountability. In my personal opinion, Lori might be the most disingenuous contractor we've ever dealt with -- and that's saying something. If you're considering working with this company, take our experience seriously. They caused damage, dodged responsibility, and spun a false narrative to cover it up. You deserve better. I'm sure Lori will come up with another creative version of events, it's kind of her thing. But if her next response is anything like the one she made to me or my brother, I'd encourage readers to question her claims and decide for themselves who's actually being honest. We called Home Serve on a Sunday afternoon to schedule an appointment due to a leaky water heater. They forwarded our request to Douglas and Sons and we heard from them soon after and had an appointment with a plumber the following day between 10am and 2pm. Max Hull, the plumber, came out and within a few minutes decided a plan of action. He drained the old unit and tied off the lines so we could have access to water and eliminate the leak. By Wednesday morning at 7am, he was back with a helper to install a brand new hot water heater. The install took 2 1/2 hours from beginning to end. They were prompt, polite and professional. They took the time to teach me all I needed to know about the new unit and how to maintain and troubleshoot going forward. I appreciate their due diligence. They were efficient with their time, very professional and performed a thorough walk-thru and clean up before leaving. I don't know how it could have gone any better. My experience started out well. Lois was very professional and courteous and scheduled my appointment promptly. The tech who came out could only do a partial repair as I was required to do addition pre work and provide photo evidence that the pre work was done or pay them a minimum of $300 to do said work. Then things turned sour when I had to deal with Shawn twice over the phone. He was rude, yelling at me, and downright unprofessional. I ended up calling HomeServe to ask for a different company to complete the work. HomeServe apologized and I have a different company coming to complete the work. I would never use this company again and could not recommend them based on Shawn's behavior, outweighing my positive encounter with Lori and the initial tech who did the partial repair. read more

My water heater was leaking and Charles came out to look at it, noticed where it was leaking and immediately ordered a new one and expansion tank. I just had the expansion tank replaced a couple of years ago and Charles stated it was too big for my unit so he recommended a smaller one. Two days later, Charles and Chris showed up on time, was very respectful of my house by wearing footies over their boots, and said how long it would take. When they rolled the old unit out, the wheels on the dolly were covered as not to mess up my carpet. The new one was installed, leaking had stopped and they even cleaned up most of the water that was on my floor and added a drip tube to my drain. Please stay away! This is the WORST and SCAM contractor/company I have ever dealt with in my life. They came and inspect my HVAC via Homeserve. Homeserve should Terminate this Scam company ASAP. Instead of helping me to solve the problem, they tried to point finger to other non-sense problems i.e. Nest thermostat and then they said they wont repair hvac because the thermostat. But the Nest thermostat they pointed to are non-sense because the thermostat has been working wonderful. I am the homeowner and i knew the Nest thermostat has been working good with no problem. In short, they avoided the work and charged insurance money ILLEGALLY easily by point finger to my thermostat. Just that simple. This company is a totally a SCAM. My house was built in and around 1966. In March, I noticed a leaked in the basement bathroom ceiling. I was told that it may be the upstairs toilet is leaking and simply change the wax ring. I did that and the leak continued. So I reached up in the ceiling and I found a leak in the tub line. I called Augua plumbing after getting the runaround Augua plumbing, (never show up), I called Douglas and Son. They were on time and professional from start to finish. They pull down part of the ceiling and also found a leak in the vet line and the main line at the joint intersection which was the original cast iron. I will begin this review with "DO NOT USE DOUGLAS AND SON". Last week Douglas and Sons sent out a plumber that caused a massive leak in my parents home. They called the plumber to take care of a clogged pipe before it became an issue. The plumber snaked into and through the wax ring of a toilet causing the massive leak. Mind you, this was not the area of the problem, it was further down the drain line. The plumber then flushed a bunch of water down the drain not realizing the damage he had just caused. He had flooded the floor and therefore also the area under it(the kitchen). There were gallons of water that have saturated the ceiling and the light fixture making this area unsafe. The owner of the company had come today not to fix the problem but to take pictures and walk away, with the false intention of fixing the issue. He did not have any plans to fix the clog which still remains or even try to address who will fix or pay for the damages caused by his own employee. I have witnessed this all happen and I personally will never use this company after seeing this. I suggest you not use them either. I can't believe that someone could come in and cause thousands of dollars of damage and then the owner says nope this isn't our problem and walk away. Just imagine if this was your home and they destroyed it and then said oh we didn't cause any damage and walked away with no sweat off their back and left you with a damaged home that they had caused. I write this review to say don't use Douglas and Sons because the way this situation was handled by the owner. Please, do not use this company! Edit: after reading the response from Lori, they will do anything to get out of this, lie cheat, steal, whatever. This furthers my point of DO NOT USE DOUGLAS AND SONS!!! First let me start with I made a point to provide a positive review because it is rare that people take time to share the 'good' - we are more apt to highlight bad experiences....as have some others we did come by way of Douglas &Son via our home warranty company and this is an occasion where we lucked out! Every person we dealt with was professional, personable, and overall a dream to deal with given the challenging circumstances with our plumbing issue. They were prompt and efficient with returning calls, setting appointments, showing up for appointments, keeping us informed with every step of the process and cleaning up after. I cannot say enough good things about them. We highly recommend if you want an honest, hardworking, respectful and responsive team. Douglas & Sons Services was assigned to me by my home warranty company for a minor plumbing issue that turned out to be a pretty extensive repair. The experience working with this company was exceptional from start to finish. Dispatch reached out to me immediately (on a Sunday) to confirm the appointment for the next business day. Avi, our technician, was polite, Covid-aware, respectful of our home, and committed to keeping us informed of every aspect of the project - ensuring that he was clearly communicating expectations and next steps BEFORE proceeding with the work. Avi went out of his way to take great care to minimize auxillary damage needed to access pipes in the wall and make a full repair. When he finished installing a new shower diverter, the stems did not fit all the way through our thick mud (concrete) wall and he actually tried to chip away the concrete and push to make them fit in order to preserve the shower tiles. When that didn't work, the company agreed to return and install a different diverter with longer stems that I specified to fit the depth of my old 1950s shower wall. Second visit was as seamless as the first - with dispatch calling to provide the service window the next business day and Avi being prompt, professional and courteous. The company was gracious and accommodating of me as a first-time customer using a home warranty to pay for their services. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this business for doing stellar, clean and efficient work; communicating clearly; being prompt, more than fair in their pricing; and providing all around outstanding professional and customer service. read more

Our 16yo hot water heater tank broke. I went to Angie's list and Home Advisor to get quotes. Douglas & Son was the first company to personally contact me. They are very professional, respectful, organized, timely, reasonably priced and knowledgeable. Shawn was great from the beginning to the end of the job walking me through all the work they were doing. Lori was great and very helpful with the administration/paperwork side of things. They have this automated system that you can track their time of arrival and scheduled appointment reminders. All in all, I'd definitely recommend and hire them again. The crew I had ran too much water through my exterior drain for way too long, which ultimately overheated my sump pump because it kept the water level too high in the sump bin. Because of this, it didn't have time to shut-off to cool the way it would during a rainstorm. They should have notified me or checked to see if the water was kicking the pump on as they were initially not sure if it was connected to that pump or not. If the pump was connected to that drain, and/or which of the two pumps it could be connected to, should have been verified FIRST, AND BEFORE allowing water to run for so long. The bigger issue was how the manager I spoke with was defensive up front, trying to get out of the situation, rather than take responsibility over the situation. This should make any person doing business with a company uncomfortable. I had no issue with that sump pump until this crew ran water for that amount of time. Worse yet, they tried to sell me more services, telling me sump pumps only last 3-5 years, when if you do a simple google search, you will find that they should last 10 years. The plumber initially told me that they could replace the pump (parts covered, but I'd have to pay for the service). Then I got a call from the manager, saying I'd have to pay for the new pump at the discounted price between $600-700 plus service) and telling me that the plumber was wrong for telling me the parts would be covered. It's just unfortunate doing business with staff who will do anything to avoid taking responsibility for their own crew and business. I had a good pump before they arrived, and an overheated one by the time they left and charged me, I would look elsewhere if you want plumber you can trust. read more

This morning we had a big leak from a second floor where washing machine is standing. There were so much water, so it damaged sealing, walls and electric wiring. I called HomeServe insurance because I was worried that the pipe burst. They send us a technician from Douglas and Son. Technician did not do anything, he did not even looked behind a washing machine where all pipes are located. He just turn back our water and said that the problem is with washing machine. I already knew that we have a problem with washing machine but I wanted to be sure that there is no problem with pipe that brings the water to the machine. To look at that area, technician suppose to at least move the mashing and inch or two. But he did not even do that. He did not want to do that to show us the problem or reassure us that there is no problem with pipes. He was just saying that we have washing machine problem, that we knew about already. He just left and told homeserve his diagnosis. He was probably in the hurry to get home since it was an evening time. I was totally disagree with his assessment, plus him not doing his job screw us over because homeserve does not want to send second technician to verify his diagnosis. I will file complaints about homeserve too. But the service that Fouglas and son provided was totally unacceptable and incompetent. read more
