My dryer was making some loud screeching noises, and when I called him he was very professional and prompt about getting me scheduled. The work took around an hour - needed new bearing wheels and belt, and showed me that the noise was likely coming from a metal object that had gotten stuck in there somehow (dryer is about 10+ years old). Very courteous during the visit, and even showed me what he was doing along the way, pointing out things I could do on my own to help keep things going in the future. Our top load machine washer broke down over the weekend. I called this company and spoke with Doug on Monday. He indicated he could come over the next day (today), but couldn't give me a quote on how much it would cost. We agreed that he would show up between 11:30-1:30. I then remembered that our doorbell doesn't work, so asked him to text me about 10 minutes before he showed up, so that we could open the garage door and put our dogs up. He agreed to this. This morning, he texted me around 10:20 that we were next. He showed up shortly thereafter. We spoke on the phone, he said "I'm here." I told him I would be down shortly. Nonetheless, in a couple of minutes, he was knocking on our door. We were still trying to get dressed. My husband meets him at the garage and he jokes around that he happens to know exactly what is wrong and happens to have the part with him. (How amazing, given that I had told him the day before exactly what the problem was and the make and model of the washer.) He gives my husband a price of $170 and he was only here for about 10 minutes. That was completely overpriced for a part for a 10 year old wash machine part. We could have bought a refurbished machine with a 90 day warranty for that price. ********************* FOLLOW UP The owner of this company, Doug, contacted me this morning. He was very caring and professional regarding my review. He indicated that there is always a $65/trip fee that he was sure he had disclosed to me. (I'm positive he hadn't, as I would have nixed that and called a couple of used appliance store first to see what they have in their inventory .). We agreed that I had done a good job of describing the issue, but he indicated that he carries roughly 170 parts on his vehicles, so it was no fluke that he had my part. He indicated that he was here for an hour. We thought it was quite a bit less time, but we settled on 30-45 minutes. I told Doug that I was aware of the exact same machine at a local used appliance store for $150, so we split the difference and he gave me what I believe we found to be a reasonable cost adjustment. Doug is a small, independent business, which, as a member of the community, we want to support. He was very genuine this morning. He went over labor costs, we discussed my concerns that the trip fee was not disclosed. I BELIEVE THE MANDATORY $65TRIP FEE, WHETHER YOU USE HIS SERVICE OR NOT, WAS THE BIGGEST ISSUE. He was my first call, and if that would have been disclosed, I would have continued looking, especially for a refurbished unit. Having said that, I feel as though our issue was successfully resolved and we would use this company again after first checking around so that we knew if the price being quoted was reasonable. read more

He's repaired my oven and dryer now for way under what I was about to fork over to other handymen. He was on time, called before his arrival, was honest and doesn't do anything until you agree to the price. He charges for the trip but honestly, who wouldn't? He had the parts on his truck and he fixed both appliances very fast and was super polite. He wore a mask the entire time except when he had to do a face recognition on his phone for my credit card payment. He asked if he could pull down his mask for a minute before he did so as well. I have to thank Doug again for helping with my refrigerator ice maker today. When I used it this morning, the auger inside wouldn't stop turning, even after I turned off the ice maker on the panel, removed the bin and reset the appliance by unplugging/replugging. The only way to stop it was to leave a door open or unplug the refrigerator indefinitely. I called around,including to the service center at the store where I bought the appliance 18 months ago, but no one had availability same day. That meant I needed to leave one of the doors ajar to stop the auger from turning, or unplug the refrigerator and remove all the food. Doug helped me right away via phone, by walking me through disabling the ice maker, so I am able to run the refrigerator until a service call. I'm so grateful. Since this Kenmore was already replaced once under warranty, and the replacement has had continuing problems since, it'll probably become the garage refrigerator soon. Advice: do not buy a french door refrigerator with ice/water in the top door unless it's top of the line. Low end models (talking only a couple thousand $$), just can't do a french door ice maker well. Small ice, few cubes, constant condensation drips, and room temp water from the dispenser, are only some of the issues. read more

Doug's Appliance was the best repair experiences we've had. Repairs are never fun, but (I think it was Doug) arrived the next day and on time. When the initial fix didn't work and it looked like we were facing many hundreds more, he patiently stayed and worked through the issue, discovering that only more grease was needed -- not a part that cost almost what a replacement would. He didn't have any appointments on Monday, but was able to get out to fix my dishwasher Tuesday morning. He showed up on time and fixed everything for the minimum charge. No wonder Doug gets good reviews. He returned my call the same day and made an appointment. Day of appointment he called to ask if he could come early. I was impressed and he hadn't even shown up at the house. He came only to replace oven element. I expected him to check his work, but then he checked everything on the unit, including setting the correct time. Then when I thought he was finished he proceeded to visually inspect the rest of my kitchen appliances and the washer and dryer. Very honest, would trust him with any repair. Called him to ask about repairing a front load washer after I had called the manufacturers repair company and they had seemed a little sleazy just over the phone and wanted $125 just to come out. He told me to just get a new washer because of an ongoing issue the manufacturer had had with this series.
