I ran into this restaurant by coincidence as I walking to the train station! The inside looked really nice and when I was searching up their hand rolls, they had a lot of good options! I end up picking the douzo hand roll and it was 6 pieces for 35 dollars. Normally I wouldn't want shrimp tempura in my hand roll, but for some reason the flavor and the crisp was spot on and I really enjoyed it! The crab meat is legitimate and it taste really fresh and great flavor profile! I loved how generous their portion size was for each hand roll and was very satisfied with the flavor! The rice was really good with its consistency and flavor! I definitely want to come back to try their omakase or Temaki platter! I feel this is a hidden gem that has a high potential ceiling to be amazing!!! read more

My first handroll experience! The boyfriend took me here for dinner one night after I expressed a desire for sushi... we didn't make any reservations, so just walked in and put our names on the list. We left and got a couple drinks at nearby bars and waited for probably 45 minutes to an hour before we were called in and seated. The quality of the rolls was impeccable, as was the service! Each time we were given a roll, the chef would explain to us what was inside. We both ordered the Douska, which included 6 handrolls. My favourite was the yellow tail by far, but every roll was delicious and quickly devoured! This place definitely set the bar for experience and freshness in quality of the food served, so looking forward to the next time I can come and eat! A really cute outdoor seating during covid, adequately spaced. Food was good but customer service was lacking. We ordered a bottle of sparkling sake (most expensive on the menu). The waitress decided to shake the bottle to get rid of the debris and then proceed to open the bottle. Needless to say, the bottle overflowed since it was carbonated. I really didn't mind, it was a careless mistake. However I did expect them to be accountable and to make it up for a good customer experience. Though nothing was done from the establishment. Best hand rolls for the price (please don't ever raise it!). If you've been to KazuNori, this place is cheaper and the fish quality is better. And the service was good. Pretty shocking -- makes this place a true gem. I appreciated how the hostesses brought out warm hand wipes and poured our soy sauce for us. The ginger and wasabi were fresh and they were very generous with the refills when we asked for more. Two chefs were serving about 10 of us in the restaurant and moved very quickly. And the food (what I'm guess everyone is dying to know about) was thankfully the highlight. Everything I ate here was a delight. Each hand roll had its own toppings and sauces to elevate them, and the fish melted in my mouth each time. My favorites were the crunch tuna and fried oyster hand roll. But I'd recommend trying anything your curious about! Ambiance was great -- felt very homey and mom and pop. Not at all modern or overly trendy. They played some romantic R&B music in the background that wasn't played too loudly, which I always appreciate. All the employees were very chill and relaxed. Made for a very calm environment. Came on a Fri night at 5:30pm and there was no wait. When I left around 6:30 there was still no wait. Maybe it's very low key? I'll definitely be back. Came here last night at around 7pm with my boyfriend. To my surprise, the place wasn't crowded at all and we were seated immediately. The restaurant layout is very similar to Kazunori's in that there is only counter seating available. During the hour or so that my bf and I were here stuffing our faces, we noticed a lot of couples coming in and out. That being said, this IS a cute spot to check out with your significant other, OR a date. Despite Douzo only offering counter seating, the seats themselves and spacing in between them are large enough that they offer some privacy. Since we're on the topic of dates, one of their menu items is the Temaki Platter where you make your own temaki hand rolls. It comes with assorted fish, nori and rice. Make your own hand rolls with your date - SO CUTE, THANK ME LATER. We also ordered the Douzo set and one Uni Ikura and one Uni Wagyu. Don't judge me, I was starving. Everything was fantastic. Bathroom 5; Food 5 Perfect. Wow just wow I believe this is my first 5-5 review. The bathroom beats some hotels and that might be an understatement. The atmosphere is impeccable. There's a little garden that gives an aura of joy and life. The toilet has a remote control bidet... do I even have to say more. There are free mentos's in the bathroom since they know you are eating fish. The only downside is that it doesn't have automatic dispensaries but no one cares about that when it has so many amenities. The color of the tiles is an ocean blue and compliments the theme of sushi. The music is hip and lo-fi. I deeply appreciate the work the interior designer has done to this bathroom. Thank you. The food is amazing. It's pricey but it's worth it. Was recommended Masumi sake and it was was so smooth, it felt like water. Had maybe around 10 hand rolls and 10 sashimi pieces. Came out wanting more and will come back again. Everything was good. Handrolls are now my new favorite thing all thanks to Douzo. I do not have other handroll experiences to compare this to such as domo domo or kazunori, but I would say this place set the standard really high. My friends who have been to kazunori before said that they definitely prefer Douzo to kazunori. The experience there is a little bit more rushed compared to the care and attention that you receive from the chef here. The counter seating allows you to watch the chef carefully craft each handroll and then seal the bottom of each roll with an additional piece of nori. This ensures that none of the fillings fall out. I had the Douzo set, which included six handrolls. It does not sound like a lot but I left extremely satisfied. There are also a la carte options that I would love to try in the future. A great new handroll spot in the LES, close to the F train on delancey. The space is cool and it has a great vibe, with all sushi bar seating (which is pretty much necessary with handrolls as you have to eat them right away). There is also a sushi omakase option which I did not try but looked inviting and affordable. If you have been to KazuNori, you will get a similar vibe except this place has handrolls that are a bit more plump and some interesting a la cart options like a mushroom and sweet potato miso soup (which I really liked but think it could have been less than $6). I really wanted to support AAPI biz. However this was hugely disappointing. Service was incredibly slow. My party ordered a 5-roll set menu. The first roll took ~1 hr to prepare. Then we waited for another 10-15 min for another roll to be served. We were just really hungry 1.5hr into our dinner reservation time since we were mostly just waiting. This hand roll, omakase place just opened up in my neighborhood and i am already afraid of getting hooked :) I went for the first time on a thursday night and it was not too crowded so I was able to get seated right away. There are great and affordable hand roll sets (5 for $28). There is also a vegetarian option! I ended up picking from the a la carte menu and got the spicy tuna, California uni, shrimp tempura and scallop. Everything was super fresh. Came here on a Tuesday night at 5:30pm. Love how spacious it looks behind the counter and the decor. The staff is all super friendly as well. The sushi and hand rolls here are incredibly fresh and at a good price! They make them right when you order and should be eaten immediately so the seaweed is still crispy. The standouts from what my friend and I ate were definitely the uni and salmon hand rolls, wagyu uni sushi, and the sashimi crudo. The crudo was tuna with a beet truffle sauce that had just the right amount of truffle flavor. They have quite a few regulars and new customers so all the seats were full by the time I left (around 7pm). There's limited seats because it's only by the counter so I would come earlier if you don't want to wait for a seat. read more

So we had both we had their handroll (a la carte) AND their Omakase! Both are so so so fab! I believe this place is new because when I was looking for new omakase places this place didn't exist last month and I am SO VERY EXCITED this place exists. I am coming back here to try their Handroll menu (like the omakase but instead of nigiri's handrolls!) This place was a disappointment..my friends and I ordered the $85 omakase. The rice is dry and didn't taste any vinegar. Some piece had too much wasabi....it was so strong my nose was burning!!! My toro (fatty tuna) has a tendon so it was just chewy in my mouth... the scallop had no flavor. My ikura only had 8 balls. The California uni is bitter af. The wagyu was chewy. And it was not worth $85 plus tip. I rather go to Sushi Isakawa and pay a few more to have some amazing ass omakase. But it seems like their handroll menu option is more popular. I'm so glad this place opened up in the neighborhood. I made a reservation over the phone since I was afraid the seating would be limited. The experience is very much like kazu nori. You can select sets or ala carte and the rolls are freshly made (they serve you one piece at a time).Space is spacious, but seating is limited with stools along a wraparound counter. I recently moved from Los Angeles and had been looking for a KazuNori equivalent out here. Douzo did not disappoint. Everything was incredibly fresh. The rolls were delicious and served at just the right temperature. I ordered the Matsu set and probably should've ordered the Douzo set or an extra appetizer. Though overall, the Matsu set was filling enough. The small, clean environment made everything feel intimate. Perhaps it's because we went on a less crowded weeknight, but the meal felt even more personalized. The service was great and the staff was very attentive too. I love ginger and eat it quickly, and the chef picked up on it quickly by always making sure I had a full bowl of ginger beside me. Definitely check out Douzo if you're in the mood for sushi! Some of the best hand roll sushi in NYC. They use a crunchy seaweed wrap that's delicious and fun to eat. All the ingredients are high quality and fresh. The Miso soup is excellent and much more substantial than anything I have tried elsewhere. Place is immaculate and well maintained. Koji is welcoming and an experienced sushi artisan. He explained what goes into each roll and presented each one with attentiveness. The quality of the food puts it on par with Michelin starred restaurants, but it's incredibly affordable, and the setting is super intimate so you get a chefs counter experience (the chef is also possibly the nicest human on the planet) but in a cool, chill place with dope decor and music.
