Had high hopes for this place. It was one of the few places open late on front street without needing reservations so we waited in line. You order and pay for your food at the counter after waiting in line and then the staff was prompt about finding us a spot to sit. The restaurant is down from the street in an open air area but it's surrounded by shops so basically there is not a lot of air flow and it felt very hot and stuffy. This was late at night so I can't imagine what it's like in the middle of the afternoon. The food was just okay. I had the poke because that's one thing I couldn't wait to have in Hawaii. It was good but nothing special. My friend got the fish and chips and the fish tasted so bad none of us could have more than a couple bites as we were trying to figure out why it tasted weird. I think it just tasted like old stinky fish. The brussel sprouts came in a fun martini glass looking dish and those actually were pretty good. We waited for the DJ that was suppose to start at 10 but after a half hour when it hadn't we decided to leave since we were so hot. read more

This is my first time in Hawaii, let alone Maui. Food was great, we got the lobster and crab grilled cheese. Mai Tai was really good too, though I prefer my drinks to be stronger. I took off one star because the waitress was rude when I asked her for ketchup and so was the cashier when we asked him for napkins. Extremely disappointed in the food quality and our meal here. Yelp rarely misleads, but the hype for this place does not compute. It's truly the spot for trying to avoid costly tourist pricing at upper-scale spots in Lahaina. It's got great vibes as a very chill and relaxed place to eat and drink, but I wouldn't dare go back here unless extremely drunk. What should have been the warning sign, when reading reviews, is that there isn't a real vegetable to be found on the menu (romaine lettuce doesn't count) and everything is covered in cheese or sauce - sweet sauce or Mayo or lava lava sauce (which is made with Mayo). It's overwhelming in a bad way. We ordered the shrimp po'boy and fried chicken sando and the spicy Caesar salad - ya know, in attempt to eat a vegetable. The Caesar was an abomination as it was made with Mayo. In case anyone doesn't know...Caesar should only be made with Mayo if you run out of eggs, or don't know how to make Caesar dressing or you're phoning it in. In the case of this place, clearly phoning it in. It wasn't spicy either defeating the whole selling point. As for the sandos...we didn't even finish them. The fried chicken was completely smothered in disgusting sauce and mayo. The cabbage topping was tossed on the side of the plate, sad and limp, with no reason to put on the sando. The Hawaiian bread wasn't a great compliment either, it felt like a wannabe soft grilled cheese sando with fried chicken shoved in between and all the wrong flavors. The po'boy was made with the smallest shrimp (50-75 count and pretty sure it comes from Costco) and covered in a teriyaki sauce. The bread wasn't a true crispy French roll, but a horribly squishing pillow of bread that wanted to be a ciabatta, but lacked all the structure. And really, the POG mai tais are what killed it. We thought we were getting a mai tai with POG foam and were shocked to discover a giant layer of orange juice at the bottom. Total sugar bomb, very little alcohol which after the sugary sauces, sugary breads...we were done. We walked over to Fleetwood's for a real mai tai with lilikoi foam and ate carrots as soon as we got back to our place to recover. read more

Omg I wish I had this spot earlier in the trip!! We had this as our last meal in Maui and it did not disappoint. It's a little tricky to find the restaurant since it actually downstairs but just follow the sign and you are right there. Park along front street or there is parking in the rear. There's plenty of tables downstairs and you can always grab it to go. Use your camera to use the QR code so the menu will pull up. Place your order and drinks at the counter and then you will be given your utensils/plates and then just go find an empty table. Easy peasy! There a pond in the middle of the plaza and the bar is set against green foliage and a little waterfall. Super cute and they have long tables for big groups too! We got the sampler and the lobster melt which was way too much food for two people but we wanted to try it all. It's not a light meal by any means but it's so hearty and tasty. The lava shrimp and calamari were my favs. The calamari was so meaty and tasted like it was caught that day my favorite out of all the calamari we had on the trip. A great party place sunk within a shopping district serving great food. Lahaina is a beautiful beach town, historical and authentic to Hawaiin culture. It has a great main strip to walk up and down--visiting lots of shops and restaurants. And, of course, there's the Banyan Tree--an almost 150 year old colossus of a tree that is a magificent being straight out of a Tolkien novel. This place has a great open-air dining area with lots of tables, a rocking bar area, and a fun atmosphere. We started with the Lava Lava Shrimp appetizer ($15), crispy shrimp doused in their house-made spicy, tangy, aioli (lava lava sauce) and served with green onions, and pickled red onions. I loved it and would've ordered another just for me--this is something the table may fight over. You can purchase a jar of their lava lave sauce and make it at home. I ordered the Cantina Pig Plate ($18 for the large, $15 for the small), a southwestern grilled pig, served with furikake garlic rice and a side salad. Man, this was great--the pork was seasoned and cooked well, making it tender and juicy; the garlic rice was delicious as a stand-alone or added to the pork, and the salad was fresh with a delicious dressing. Don't make the same mistake I did and call it the "Catalina" Pig Plate... evidentially, everyone does that and there a Catalina who works there and the staff yells out her name everytime that happens, LOL. My date ordered the Local Fish Tacos ($18, grilled or crispy), a good-sized fillet piled with their coleslaw and served on tortillas and with chips and salsa. Of all the places we ate these tacos were one of the best for her; she loved them. She also ordered the Spicy Caesar Salad ($14.50), made up of romaine, spicy Caesar dressing, Parmesan cheese, bacon, and croutons. I had some, because it looked terrific, and loved it. The dressing was indeed spicy and bold and the bacon gave it a nice twist. The kids ordered Scratch Burgers ($11 for double patties), with the typical dressings and loved them. Although the patties were too small for the buns and made eating them slightly challenging because things kept slipping around. You can get these burgers as a triple or quad--and that was really tempting for me. We added side of fries for $2.50. We actually dropped back into this place, on another date, just for their happy hour. They have good prices on certain drinks ($5 for Mai Tais, Pina Coladas, and others) and a 15% discount on their appetizers. This time, we ordered their Mermaid Fries ($8) that is a big pile of shoestring fries, bacon, green onions, served with their Lava Lava sauce, homemade cheese sauce, and ranch. The fries were seasoned great and cooked to a crisp. The cheese sauce was mild, but delicious, and the Lava Lava sauce was crazy good. We also ordered the Mermaid Tenders ($13.50), chicken with the same stuff as the fries--the only complaint was that there were only three tenders, but they were good. Lastly, we ordered their Loaded Quesadilla ($14), with a choice of kalua pig or chicken, and served with jack cheese, cabbage, black beans, cord tostada, mango salsa, and picked red onions. The kids ate this and loved it. The way they served them were interesting, because as you can see in the picture, they were stuffed in on themselves. If you're immediately hungry, I wouldn't go here. There is a wait in line to order and then you can go eat. The staff here is friendly and because it's so busy they have to turn the tables over quickly. We ordered the fish tacos fried and they were a GENEROUS size, delicious and battered well . I couldn't finish them it was such a large portion. It came with a side of chips and salsa that were so flat and boring. We got the non alocholic mixed drinks which were great! It's always nice to have an option available that's not just soda. My husband got the ahi fish plate. The crust on the ahi was well seasoned and the rice mixed with the sauce was flavorful. DT Hatch was one of the places I wanted to go during our Maui trip but after seeing the line all the way past up the stairs, deterred me the first day. Then following day, Star Noodle screwed up our reservation and made us wait 30 min. They gave us no apologies with a side of snooty attitude, we walked away and decided to drive further into town to try DT Hatch. It was around 4pm so we thought maybe we'd get lucky. Best decision ever!! When we got there, no line. We ordered at the counter, found a place in the shade to sit and enjoyed the live music. We skipped lunch so we were starving by this point. We ordered lava lava shrimp, spicy Caesar salad and ahi tacos. (The funniest thing, after we ordered and sat down, I got a text from Star Noodle that our table was ready. That was 50 min after we initially checked in with then. Their loss, not ours. Much rather spend our money at DT Hatch than over there) My hungry teenager said that ahi tacos were absolutely delicious. It has chunks of seared ahi and smelled scrumptious. Lava lava shrimp was the bomb, I wished I ordered two because my son ate half of it. The next day (today), we got done with fantastic snorkeling at Honolua Bay and we were hungry. My son wanted more lava lava shrimp so it wasn't a hard decision to go back into town to DT Hatch. Two orders of lava lava shrimp, Caesar salad and Po Boy Shrimp sandwich and a pina colada. Happy mom, happy teenager. The service was awesome both days. Very friendly staff, happy people all around, great food. What more can you ask for? As of right now, every place closes at 10 PM due to COVID restrictions. That means they stop accepting food orders at 9:30 PM. We didn't know this rule and arrived at 9:27 PM. Thankfully we were able to order because they told us this rule applied everywhere and the only places we would be able to find would be fast food places (and who wants to eat there when you're in Maui?!) They also told us we would have to leave the seating area by 9:55 PM, which meant we didn't have a lot of time to eat. They asked us if we wanted our food packed togo or for here. I opted to eat there, because (don't judge me) I wanted an instagram picture of my lava lava shrimp. Unfortunately, they still packed it to go - understandably. Now onto the food. A neat little spot that we discovered on a recent trip here. Happy hour is great and drinks are strong The way it works here is you line up, place your order at a window, then find a seat. There isn't anyone assigning your seats so it can be slightly anxiety inducing when you go to find a place to sit as it may be challenging to find a spot. The seating area all seems to belong to Down the Hatch bjt they have several mini shops under the same restaurant umbrella. For instance, if you only want shaved ice, you can go straight past the long line in front to the back shop that makes shaved ice from the down the hatch menu. If you want food, go through the main line off the front entrance Oooor if you only want drinks/happy hour, you can bypass that main line, and order from the bar. It was sliiightly confusing when we got there but the people there and the patrons were all nice enough to explain things to us The main challenge is really just getting a spot to sit. Happy hour is from 2-5pm We didn't get much; we had just come from another restaurant and just wanted a little more food to eat just to kill time prior to our massage in the same plaza. I got the dragonfruit drop which is their dragon fruit version of a lemon drop. It was tart, sour, and great. As a fan of lemon drops, I enjoyed this take on the drink. Dragon fruit is a fairly neutral flavored fruit and it worked well 5/5 We also got dynamite shrimp to share. i was between a 3 and a 5 for dth. so i went with a 4. i know that seems logical, but the not so good was such a 3 and the good was such a 5, i felt like the 4 was unfair to both the 3 and the 5, but what are you gonna do? my lady ordered the grilled fish tacos (which is a big deal if you know her). she liked them! one order comes with 2 tacos and they're pretty big so she only ate one (good news for me). it had really good flavor. i ordered the poke of the day. i can't tell you what it was now, but the poke flavor was really good. the bad was the rice. the rice was a little hard. i don't know if you can tell, but i'm asian. not perfectly cooked rice is a BIG deal to me. i mean, it was still edible and i still ate the whole thing, but it kind of downgraded my experience and enjoyment of eating poke. this was my first poke of my hawaii trip and i was so excited, but the rice let me down. i'd probably suggest going with the non-rice items on the menu (which they have a couple rice dishes! i don't get it!). i saw most people getting the fish and fries. also, don't pay attention to the lit up sign that tells you how long the wait is from order to food arrives based on what color it is because it wasn't accurate and it didn't change color the whole time we were there. our food came out much quicker than the sign said (sign said 25 minutes). our food came out in maybe 10-15. i'd recommend this place if you're hanging out on front st. i haven't been to many other places on front st, but this place wasn't bad. i was also looking at the paia fish market or lahaina fish. read more

I've eaten here probably 5-6 times over the course of 2 island hops to Maui. I love this place. I went recently after a 2 year gap and had a few issues but Javier and another male manager who's name I didn't catch went above and beyond to remedy the situation and make sure my gf and I were happy. Thank you both so much! The food here is incredible. I've had dinner several times and most recently got to try the breakfast. Chicken and waffles- daughter thought the gravy was well seasoned, and she was happy they were small waffles. Gloves, masks on staff. Cons: My fish tacos with the gluten free shells. They were underwhelming. I believe there was little to no salt in the tortilla, and it just didn't seem seasoned well. Two tacos, over $18. And a side was a bag of Maui potato chips ... Maybe that was because it was gluten free? I thought it came with chips and salsa, but that wasn't communicated, so... The table we sat at was sloped. Sloped so bad that all of the condensation off of the drinks was running like a tiny waterfall, my 6 year old said, to the floor. It was rather obnoxious. I waited in line for an adult shaved ice which was okay, not great, and I'm glad I only paid $9 or so... Stopped by because of the reviews but I think the place is overrated on yelp. To order you'll get in line and order your food at the register so make sure to look at the menu before you get to the register. If you have questions, keep in mind there's a line behind you. Once you have ordered, you'll need find a place to sit and place your number on the table. Someone will drop off your food but they aren't necessarily servers/waiters so you can't order anything additional from them. If you want anything additional you will have to get back in line. We had the Captains Catch, Whole Fish, and margaritas. The food was ok, the spicy margarita was snot spicy but was still delicious. The dining area was ok since it's outside but for some reason there were too many flies while dining. The restaurant is located at The Wharf. This is a order at the counter then sit and they will bring you your food. It is a pretty cool open air courtyard with a pond running through it. It can get a little bit smelly , think stale bar mat mixed with musty pond water, but not enough to ruin our dinner. Full bar and tvs. It's a neat vibe and good music. Now for the food. Super! Everything we got was good. Shrimp tacos, fish tacos, mermaid tenders. All we're excellent. Our jaw would drop as we saw other plates go buy. Next time I will get the crab and lobster grilled cheese. I got the fried rice with over easy egg on top with a delicious spicy Bloody Mary. I really enjoyed this meal. So much so, I came back next day to have same thing except I didn't opt for the 1/2 plate I splurged and got the fatty plate LOL. Again I had the Bloody Mary x2. Don't judge me! I am on VACATION lol. Plus I was killing time before my glass bottom boat ride. It is located right across the street from the crazy banyan tree. There are many shops and restaurants in this area. You can't miss it off of Front Street which is the Main drag in this area. The bartender was a very cool dude. He is from Northern California too and still has family living there. Very personable and happy guy. Should have gotten his name. I am here for another week, I will see if I can find out and update later. Oh yeah, we all really enjoyed Chive TV streaming on one of the 3 TV's they have above the bar area. Really entertaining and we all were laughing watching it.
