A friend visiting from out of town wanted something casual with American fare and choices of New Mexican dishes. I thought SF Bar and Grill would be a good choice. Boy was I wrong. My friend ordered a Silver Coin Margherita. It was awful. I tasted it and confirmed. Dishwater has more flavor (and probably more tequila) I explained the NM dishes on the menu and thought the carne adovada might be a good bet. The waiter was wishy washy about the dish and we probably should've gone with his que. It came in a bowl which was unusual but I thought it was the taste that counted. The pork was so dry I had a hard time cutting the chunks and they were hard. The red chile was dark brown and the only flavor it had was spicy. The jalapenos were a clue that the dish wasn't authentic New Mexican. The black beans were OK and the rice was very ordinary. The waiter never came to the table to inquire about our meals and wish he had. I would've sent it back but didn't complain since my out of town friend was taking me out for dinner. When we left before we even got in the car he said 'that food was awful. Sorry to say I had to agree. SF Bar and Grill used to be a great place. I won't be returning. read more

I've been to Dr Field Goods a few times now. The food is always good. I like the stacked enchiladas. My son always has the pork sandwich. I've had the pizza before and it to was fantastic. The patio is outstanding and the indoor area is very inviting as well. The service has always been top notch. read more

The woman on their outdoor patio next to us held her large dog on her lap as she ate and the dog licked her water glass, licked and drooled on the table while eating from her plate and hand. The host and waiter were both advised of her behavior, but nothing appeared to be done. We won't be returning anytime soon, but perhaps the health inspectors should. My family has been frequenting Dr Field Goods since it was at its past location. They have solid food and tons of seating at the new place, so there's almost never any wait. Some of the waiters are absolute stars and the service is usually pretty solid. My favorite dishes are the summer fruit salad and the achiote poblano chicken sandwich. read more

Things come and go, but Santa Fe Bar and Grill stays the same. I had dinner last week with a couple of friends, and the tortilla soup was as good as ever. The calamari, meanwhile, could have used some marinara or cocktail sauce, but was still a delicious appetizer. Today I returned with my girlfriend for a special dinner together. She was characteristically indecisive, finally settling on the halibut special. I opted for an old off-menu secret item, the legendary tortilla burger, for which I often pine. Our waiter, Saxon, was on his game. He put in my order correctly, and it came out exactly as I hoped: smothered in green chile, with fries on one side and black beans on the other. I asked for a side of sour cream, then proceeded to eat the entire burger. Absolutely delicious. My girlfriend was likewise impressed with her halibut. Nicely done! Sometime I get nervous about the effects time can have on old favorites like this restaurant. I'm happy to know they can still put a smile on my face. read more

So apparently Dr Field Goods has bought Santa Fe Bar & Grill in the Paseo de Peralta mall. I'm a long time fan of Dr Field Goods Patatas Bravas and all their wood fired pizzas. Very disappointed that these signature dishes are gone. They kept a few things from Dr Field Goods but mostly mediocre pub food. We chose this place for a work mixer. They were very accommodating when we asked to be moved to the patio as our party was too large for inside. The food was great! We only had appetizers and drinks. The bbq wings were spicy and so delicious! The service was impeccable and I was very impressed at how quickly they were serving everyone in our party. This is a casual restaurant that I've had a couple times for takeout and finally made it to dine in this past weekend. I sat on the patio for dinner and the ambiance was quite nice. The view of the parking lot is completely blocked by the adobe and there's lots of plants which make it very cute. I had the trout special. It was simple but cooked well and served with vegetables and a rice pilaf. The prices are very fair and it's nice to get a change of scenery from the boujee-er spots in town. read more

If I could give this less than one star I would. When it was Bar and Grill - we would eat here at least twice a week. Robbie - we miss you. This is awful. Locals all talking about how bad things have gotten. Nothing like the great food Bar and Grill had. You have to ask for salt and pepper. Less than a tablespoon of catchup in a the tiniest metal cup too. Especially after their prices have soared - you think they could afford the catsup. I wish I could have given this restaurant a better review, but overall, it was just ok. I will say that we really liked our server and that was perhaps the best part of the meal. We started with a house salad with their creamy blue cheese dressing. The salad was fresh with nice ingredients, and the dressing was excellent. However, we were only about halfway finished with the salad when our entrees arrived. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes which was ok, but nothing special. The potatoes were served in a separate dish with no gravy, and the meatloaf only had a little of it spooned over the top. The dish could have used a green vegetable, but that was an extra $4.00. Overall, it was on the dry side. My wife had asked for the veggie quesadilla with chicken, which they accommodated. However, when we got the check we saw that they charged $20.00 for it. That is a total ripoff. The cocktails were ok. I had a house margarita which was too sweet; my wife had a Manhattan which she liked. We did not have dessert. The ambiance and decor is nice; they've done a good job with the lighting making a large restaurant feel on the cozy side. The bar is fairly big and looked comfortable. Would I go back? Yes, I think so, although I'm not in a big rush. We had been once before on a Friday night when they featured prime rib and fish & chips as dinner specials, and we liked it better then. That's what brought us back. I think if and when we go back, it will be on a Friday. read more

Really good margarita but I have to say the new owners really messed up this menu. There's nothing like a quality mall restaurant that serves fresh meatloaf to old people at noon on a Tuesday. Now the meatloaf is like a hockey puck with gross gravy. sometimes cooks have no idea what they're really doing and they try to trick you with clever foods but they're not good. This gravy was gross. I used to come here all of the time for lunch. The new owners have raised the prices while the food quality has dropped a little. For example the burger has more bread and less meat. I find burgers at The Compound , La Fondas, and Rio Chama provide better quality at similar prices. I hope things get back into a groove. What happened? My wife's favorite place for Rotisserie Chicken is terrible now! Food was served COLD! The portions are 1/8th of what they were before. Took my mother for lunch and it was bad. Really bad. We both ordered the chimichanga special and had to send it back not once but twice because it was ice cold in the center. So, we decided to order green chile cheese burgers instead. How does a NM restaurant mess up a local menu staple. Well...they did not screw it up but they were not great. $50 was the charge for lunch for the two of us. The least they could have done was apologize and comp our ice tea and coffee. Nope. No apology, no effort to make it right. Our waiter was very nice and we left him a 20% tip but I will never go back and will never recommend this place to others. I'm impressed. I've started coming here more often after hearing about the new ownership with good reputation. Plus a water leak has me kicked out of my house until further notice, so eating out daily. I've mostly sat at the bar because I'm eating very late lunches/early dinners. That they are even open from 3-5 when most Santa Fe restaurants aren't, is a big plus. As for the food, as bar and grill food it's very, very good. And even at 3 in the afternoon, when you know the chef isn't there, they hit the right temp on a burger every time. That's not as common around here as you might think. Very flavorful burger with no enhancements like bacon or cheese, and that's uncommon too and is a guarantee of excellent meat befitting a butcher/owner. But definitely add the green chilies! Also can recommend the Cubano, not traditional (nor claimed to be) but very tasty (sub out mustard for mayo imo). So why only three stars? Because the bartender is a dick. I'm told he's been there 12 years so obviously came with the place. Surly, arrogant, and all-around unpleasant dude who should get out of the service industry. Today I made sure to eat on the patio so I didn't have to face his smugness. And I have to add other servers I've had aren't especially welcoming either but nothing like his royal smugness. The burgers and fries are generally good, as is the fried and smoked chicken legs, but generally, this place has gone downhill. It is overpriced, especially the salads. After ordering the grilled shrimp salad, I don't think I'll be back. They put it on a too small plate, forgot the mangos, didn't bother to cut up the tomatoes--which are too big to eat--and the shrimp was not that tasty. Basically, you're paying about $18 for some simple lettuce and six pieces of so-so shrimp. What irritated me the most was the small plate, an attempt to mirage me into thinking I'd gotten a bounty for $18, but only made my salad MORE difficult to eat, as stirring in the dressing, caused a lot of it to fall on the table. read more

It's pretty loud and not easy to hear what some of the staff were saying especially since several of them still wear masks. My wife ordered soup and salad but the waiter forgot about her soup until we were ready to leave. She was fine with not having the soup as long as we weren't paying for it but the waiter gave it to her in a to go bag as he brought us the bill. LOL. No apologies for that. Our food took over a half hour to receive. The waiter blamed it on my sandwich which he told me he was waiting for to be prepared. It was a portobello sandwich was overly oily which sat very heavy in my stomach. I did like my french fries though. To sum it up, I was a bit of a disappointment. read more

Not normally a fan of negativity, but my husband and I just had our worst dining experience in Santa Fe. What's sad is that it occurred in a restaurant we have been frequenting almost weekly for several years. The new owner changed a few items on the menu. When my husband ordered one of these, he specifically instructed the server what he did and didn't want. She said that was fine. When the entrees arrived, his was what he said he didn't want. We were polite about it while letting the server, and the manager she summoned know it wasn't okay. She said today was her first day, although I'm pretty sure I saw her there last week. Our normal bill there is usually about $32. Today it was $45, and my husband ate about 3 bites of his. Yay! We are staying at a creepy hotel around the corner at The Lodge at Santa Fe. We came here by accident and who would of thought! First of all, we just got in town it's 38 degrees..::but for us, it's cold so we are bundled up like we are about to get frost bite! Brrrrr. So yes we look like tourists! We went to old Santa Fe when we arrived and were feeling a little under dressed. Geez, I should have brought my furs. :( Anyhow we came to this strip mall and came across this place! They were so nice when we walked in. Sat us near the bar where we wanted. Our waiter Bobby was AMAZING! Talk about amazing service, professionalism, and just over all charm! This man never let our drinks get empty! He also made us feel like we were at home. Geeez he's awesome! The food, it was great, tried the tortilla soup like another yelper recommended. I personally do not like green chile but this was very tasty! My son loved his burger says it's the best burger he has ever eaten. My husband wasn't hungry but he ate all his burger. Ha! This casual environment and friendly service is a welcoming change from what many Santa Fe restaurants serve. I started with the Cucumber Ginger Fizz cocktail with strong flavors providing a pleasant wine-like buzz before the meal. I picked the All Natural Chicken Breast Mole Verde for my meal. It was great! The mole had a familiar texture, but on the spicy side instead of sweet. The chicken wasn't dry and had a nice grilled flavor. The potatoes were lighted chile spiced tender wedges. There was enough mole to enjoy and combine with the asparagus. The prices are not bad either. Great place for tourists to get a taste of Santa Fe without the attitude. read more
