The shredded beef was surprisingly tender, though it lacked the listed heat. The mix of vegetables, ranging from scallions to onions to greens, was crunchy and seemed pretty fresh. I would say that the fried rice was only alright, but at least it wasn't oily. For the price point, and since it's Midtown East, it was honestly satisfying. The second time, I went with Small House Special Chow Fun. The menu lists it as $10.50, but she listed it as $12 and as a lunch special, which is a bit odd. The chow fun was fine. I prefer a bit more wok hei, and some of the noodles clumped together a bit more than I would like, but they were tender. In terms of the toppings, I liked the shrimp the most as they were bouncy and contrasted the noodle texture. The pork wasn't bad, while the chicken was almost abnormally soft. I also liked the added mushrooms and other veggies. It was overall pretty good. While I preferred my first meal here, the second one wasn't bad. I prefer other places as I typically don't get this type of food, but it gets the job done, and the price is right.
