Ordered delivery from Hunan Delight last night because it seems very few, if any, Chinese restaurants in the area offer Chicken Chow Mein on their menu and we were craving it. We never ate anything from this place and with its mixed reviews we gave it a shot anyway. Pleasantly surprised. Delivery arrived right on time and food was hot. At one time this place was OK. Definitely not good but not terrible. It has gone so far downhill that it is worse than terrible. If you are unlucky enough to get the lady who owns the restaurant on the phone when you call to place an order that's big trouble. If they are busy, she gets extremely stressed and nasty. The food has absolutely no taste! If you want a chicken chow mein, it is so bland and watery that you have to add a couple of packets of soy sauce.` Chicken and vegetables are also terrible. What you get is lots of broccoli very little of any vegetables of quality.. The eggrolls are thick and hard and full of a lot of chopped, your guess is as good as mine! My sister and I LOVE this place (perhaps too much!) On these sweltering days, we don't always feel like cooking, so this place is the answer. Very tasty food!! We love the appetizers (vegetable rolls and sesame noodles (heated & with extra sauce). I've ordered takeout and delivery from Hunan Delight multiple times and it's been consistently good. The delivery is fast and the staff at the restaurant are friendly. Overall, I'd describe it as pretty standard New York City Chinese food. Most dishes I've had have been solid, though not necessarily anything to write home about. The value is there, and it's always a comforting meal. But I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised by their sesame chicken! At many places, the chicken is covered in a thick batter and there's more breading than chicken. That's not the case at Hunan Delight. I would definitely order this dish again! It almost reminded me of Noodle Fun in the East 90s (a gem from the pre-pandemic era). That was the best sesame chicken on the UES as far as I was concerned. I keep trying it every year or four! I ordered in sesame chicken. The worst! Very dry, chewy, small little pieces, all different sizes and very fried and breaded! The worst I've ever had. I'd rather pay more and go elsewhere and for the same price or similar where it's better. Unfortunately, too many places over bread it but some don't! I feel like the chicken is shredded from someone that's leftover plate. And re-cooked/fried. Then I ordered moo shu. shrimp I said not oily. You could just cook it in chicken broth and if you have to use a little oil OK. It was overcooked and soggy vegetables with too much oil in it. The shrimp was not opaque. They were clear looking I don't mind the fact that they use small shrimp for that dish they have to for that dish, There is no quality here and with all the food poisoning out there and handling a food. I would be afraid to eat there again ever. I will not be trying this place ever again. It's gone downhill each time worse. I keep hoping for a miracle I guess. Stay away. Owner doesn't care. I was just telling her how I felt don't want any money back or another dish just telling her I won't be ordering anymore once again. She didn't care about anything! I'm a regular orders up at least once every week usually. Yesterday I tried the shrimp and hot chili sauce and it was absolutely delicious. Even the brown rice was cooked to perfection, so fluffy. It was actually the best shrimp and chili sauce and the best brown rice I ever had anywhere. The lady on the phone is always delightful. I used to go in person but had an accident so now I have to order up for the next couple months before I go back to enjoy the food there or maybe I'll still keep ordering up as well! Delivery service is excellent straight from the restaurant.Just overall a wonderful experience and thank you for remembering my cookie ha ha! Your food is delicious so hats off to the chef, please! I would like to also remind everyone that you can get the lunch special up until 5 PM which is absolutely absolutely phenomenal! I want to give a shout out to their Cantonese Wonton Noodle Soup. I ordered it the other day and it was so delightful. I added chili oil and pepper and it was clear that it was made with love. Since I was in the area, this afternoon around 5:30 I decided to try this restaurant. Unfortunately I can only give it 3 stars because there were things I liked and things I didn't like. The service was the fastest I've ever seen - one thing right after another. There is no way they could have fresh cooked the food that fast, even in a wok. I think they must prepare the food in advance, freeze it, and then when ordered, they plate it, put a sauce on it and microwave it. I asked if they had plum wine, but they didn't (unusual for a Chinese restaurant); so I settled for a large hot sake, which was good and also reasonable ($9.50). Then I ordered hot and sour soup, shrimp shumai, crispy shrimp and scallop, and red bean ice cream. The soup was very good with lots of mushrooms, and some tofu and vegetables which you could actually chew. The shumai was tasty but had very little shrimp in it. I was surprised that they served it with no sauce. I had to ask for soy sauce and then I had to ask for a dish in which to place the soy sauce. The shrimp and scallops were somewhat disappointing. The scallops were tasty and the sauce was good, but the shrimp was a bit tough. The broccoli and onions were under-cooked, tasteless and pretty much inedible. The rice tasted strange. I don't know what they did to that, but I ate very little of it. The red bean ice cream was tasty, but the beans were hard as a rock. You could break your teeth on them. I never experienced that before with red bean ice cream. This is a rather small restaurant. When I arrived, there was only one other customer. When I left at 6:30 there were about five other people. I imagine, though, that they do a good pickup/delivery business. The waiter was friendly but must be new. He seemed a bit confused at times and had to ask if they had plum wine. Although it was an okay experience, I don't think this restaurant warrants a return visit. read more

Outstanding Asian food with so many vegetarian options... we loved them! Often times with Chinese food, we come across greasy dishes that don't provide unique flavors due to a significant amount of salt. But for this particular establishment, every dish appears well crafted and comes across as truly unique. The grease and oil remains minimal, and the texture for some tough vegetarian dishes was solid. If you like tofu- get ready for some variety. General Tso's tofu, string beans sautéed with fried tofu, you name it... they have it... Their pricing is also quite competitive with other neighborhood Asian restaurants. Fast and cheap lunch specials Growing up ate tons of Chinese lunch specials. New to the area, saw this place so I thought I would check it out. Got the shrimp with lobster sauce lunch special w/ hot and sour soup. Really hit the spot and was only 10 dollars. Soup was perfectly seasoned with the right amount of vinegar. Pretty bad. No wonder that for a large restaurant, it's often pretty empty. If it hadn't rained, I wouldn't have gone in and for sure this is the LAST time I will bthere. My order of chicken came out in 5 minutes (even less) and had absolutely no taste other than the sauce which they doused on everything and which broccoli was tough and slightly bitter. (Clearly not fresh as well.) The must have been cooked several days ago and just reheated. You have a choice of soup, roll (I was not asked whether I preferred egg roll to veggie roll, just served old veggie roll which was uneatable. (See misleading behavior below.) As to service: the waitress was nice but provided failed to include straw for the water, (the norm) just for the canned soda. The Chinese cashier was horrible--ill-mannered and not easy to understand-- and deceptive. I asked if the free rice could be substituted with something else, was told No and I was about to go out when she quickly called me back and said, we can give you soup, or roll or soda, which it turned out was part of the order anyway. Ordered lunch today. I went and picked it up. I had no issues with it being ready or picking it up. I got the L14 Ta-chin chicken and L12 Szechuan shredded beef. Each came with choice of side and choice of rice. I got egg rolls and fried rice. The egg rolls were pretty good. A good mount of pork in them. The fries rice was standard but actually had a good amount of egg in them. The Ta-chin chicken had a decent flavor and the peppers in it were extremely soft. I like the texture but thought the flavor was lacking. It was not very spicy. The Szechuan shredded beef was okay. Not hot or spicy at all. I felt like there may have been too many carrots as every bite was overpowered by the shredded carrots. Overall I think this place was just average for lunch in both flavor and cost. I judge a Chinese restaurant by it's Hot and Sour soup. Bad soup means the rest of the food will be bad. To me good hit and sour soup shows respect for all the ingredients and not using what's left over to make it, which with the ingredients they could. Hunan Delight's Hot and Sour soup is amazing!! Great flavor with just enough spice and great textures!!! And very reasonably priced!! This is a specific review for the vegetarian sesame chicken and spring roll. Home delivery was reasonable. Vegetarian spring roll was properly fried - slightly oily on the outside but good with a plump filling. Vegetarian chicken was good. Very slight floury aftertaste which happens if the wheat gluten could use an extra rinse. Not objectionable. Very good crust, generous sesame seeds that actually added flavor. A nice surprise was the ample amount of broccoli on the bottom of the container instead of the usual two pieces. This dish would probably be even better in the restaurant. Strict vegans want to double check that there's no egg in there batter. Unlikely since tempura batter is flour and water. read more

Considering we order from here regularly and simply hit reorder on delivery.com so all the same instructions remain... an allergy to eggs and peas written as ALLERGY no peas or eggs... for the rice surely didn't translate. And asking for there to be extra sauce for the chicken... i'd settle for any sauce because they're dry as the sahara. And when you call, as one food and beverage professional to another, to simply let them know 'hey this wasn't your best performance, you get reprimanded. Nope nope and nope. Been coming to this place for years - mostly for carryout. I have to say it's the best (fast casual) chinese place between E. 60 and 80 streets (trust me- I looked). Still Solid, "old school" (flavorful, large portions) Chinese place. LOVE their boneless spareribs, Mai Fun with Pork, and chicken with eggplant; The only thing I would not recommend is their egg roll - It's a preference thing- I just don't like "doughy" egg rolls. My beloved Lora and I decided to order some Chinese food. We all think we know Chinese food and what we like and such. However my beloved has a little bit more experience in that arena than most. She told me if I was open to ordering from this place and when I asked her what it meant "Hunan" she explained to me that this cuisine has a little bit more heat meaning spiciness than others. So we ordered a few dishes and for me I really like the Peking duck with pancakes and scallions. So my beloved ordered us a few days ago to come today on Sunday. Unbeknownst to us this Sunday just happened to be the New York City Marathon. We were not only impressed with the commitment of the restaurant to get our food here on time but also their ability to impress us beyond our expectations on the quality. As I mentioned earlier my beloved does have more experience than most with this type, as well as French and Italian cuisine. She is a Michelin Star trained chef and one of her first mentors was a woman name Barbara Tropp. Anyhow we really enjoyed place and what we ordered (1/2 of a crispy Peking duck, soft shell crab, perfect seafood soup, al dente steamed broccoli and lightly sautéed shrimp rice.) A favorite local upper east side neighborhood Chinese sushi spot... Can't say enough positive things about their food, menu options, fresh sushi and outstanding mom and pop restaurant service... And great delivery service . We've been here and ordered takeout countless times ... It is our goto spot ... Sushi chef David focuses on the sushi, is almost always the one behind the sushi bar, always fresh fish and he makes beautiful, fabulous sushi rolls . Because there are so many sushi restaurants within a few blocks this restaurant often gets overlooked as a sushi spot... And they may get passed by passers by because of their somewhat less visible and outdated awning outside. Once inside the atmosphere is updated, clean, contemporary with plenty of tables perfect for family dining. I've brought families, many with several children here, and they've always been outstanding with friendly service and accommodating whatever group . A bonus is a complimentary glass of wine with dinner. My son's favorite Chinese dish is steamed broccoli and chicken with brown sauce. Egg rolls.
