Came here for a family birthday dinner and it was a fun experience. We called to order the duck ahead of time so they could prep and cut it while you are there. The cutting and lighting on fire was cool and they provided the wrap, veggies and sauce. The chef even provided some pork chasu as a complimentary service. My favorite thing had to be the handful led beef noodles. It had a nice wok flavor and the noodles were really good and had a nice chew. The duck was good too but it felt quite small for the price. Also I did find a small hair in a piece of duck so that wasn't fun. The service was great and our waiter was very friendly and great. The restaurant inside is pretty and clean. This place has a super cute vibe. Outdoor seating is nice with the lanterns. Me and my sister friends had girls night and got dinner here. We had the jasmine tea which I absolutely loved because it was loose leaf, a win! Then I had the chicken egg rolls and they were nice and crispy with a sweet sauce that was the perfect compliment. We tried the dumpling sampler and all of those were delicious. Then I had the hand pulled noodles with shrimp. YUM!!! They were so good. All of us enjoyed our food. The portions are plentiful. You will likely have something to take home and enjoy later. The food is just as good as a leftover. The food is 5 star. My only criticism is that they need more seating for slightly larger groups. There was 5 of us and it was hard to get a table that could fit us which is why we sat outside. It was a nice night and the lanterns were lovely, so it all worked out. read more

Not at all what I was expecting when I ordered lamb chops, which is also one of the more expensive items on the menu. The texture and flavor were so gross. On top of that, my friend had an allergic reaction due to cross contamination. Server just did not take food allergies seriously. There is plenty of space inside for seating. read more

Valentine's Day this year was pretty casual, somewhat spontaneous and enjoyable on all fronts. After an action packed flick at the nearby AMC (separate review) my wife and I were deciding what to eat. The dilemma: Somethjng tasty, not too heavy (due to being late for dinner) and some dietary restrictions to work through. Well, we landed on the Dragon house. The wait was not too long, about 20 minutes, especially considering that it was a Saturday and Valentine's night. We sat at a cozy booth and were greeted with a warm smile. After a few questions we made a decision and got this delicious Spicy Szechuan Boiled Fish soup and some chicken dumplings. All of it was fantastic! The portions of the fish soup was much larger than expected, the flavor was rich and light but filling, and the textures were great. The cabbage was soft, but not soggy and the fish was cooked just right! It was enough for the two of us to enjoy and take a little bit home. Atmosphere- standard Service - kind Food - tasty Fell short of five stars for some small mix ups with the wait staff. Nothing to harp on, but an opportunity to be more attentive. Menus handed and we decided to order the duck, beef stew noodles, beef broccoli, shrimp fried rice and salt/pepper fish. After placing my order they waiter came back to let me know that they didn't have the salt and pepper fish available and brought me back a menu to order something else. So we went with the sweet and sour fish. Unfortunately he came back again and told me that was not available also. So we decided to order the salt pepper tofu. The overall food was okay. It's nothing that's crazy good where I would crave coming back to. The beef broccoli tasted burnt. The salt pepper tofu had no flavor. The beef stew noodles were decent and the duck was okay. We started with the chicken egg rolls which were underwhelming and they were out of the salad ...BUT Dim Sum dumplings were perfectly steamed and full of flavor, a definite highlight. The fried rice, noodles, and orange chicken were all fresh, well-seasoned, and served hot. Portions were generous and everything was beautifully presented. We sat at the bar, and while the service wasn't bad, it wasn't particularly attentive either. Nothing that ruined the experience, but it did feel a bit more "hands-off" than expected. Food appears fresh and approachable. Had the "smashed" cucumber (garlic sauce and cucumber) - delicious. Scallion pancake - surprise, it's fried? Like, greasy fried. 6 pieces. Probably best to share with 4 or so rather than 2 people. Unless this is all you're coming for. Pork and scallion soup dumplings - they're ok! Flavor is good, though I'll have to come back for dim sum to really get the dumpling experience. And then for entrees we had Kung Pao chicken to compare to another place in town, and the "new" Spicy Chicken. These are the same dish. Same flavor, same preparation, same ingredients; except Kung Pao has peanuts. This was a bit disappointing. And neither of them had ANY spice, at all. And they don't have "spice levels" that I'm aware of where you can customize the spiciness. Probably a result of being in Highland Village, TX, but I order spicy for a reason, I love the Sichuan spicy flavor and experience! Cocktails: old fashioned (apparently this was sweet-less compared to typical old fashioned), and a cocktail with rum and egg white that was so good! The name escapes me... but it's tropical something (I named it on the image). Service is attentive and friendly. No complaints. Wait was a bit longer than quoted, but we can wait. Restaurant is stylish, but the devil is in the details. The wall next to our half booth was disgustingly dirty. If we had been on a "date night", we would have asked for another table. Normally I wouldn't care, but in a place like this that's a nicer sit-down with a bar and fancy cocktails, I'd expect they could keep the walls clean and not look like everyone who sat there used it as a napkin. Nice atmosphere indoors. Staff seemed friendly and helpful. Ordered food to-go and their phone lines were down, so I couldn't place an order through their website or by calling ahead. So had to drive there and place it in person. Took 27 minutes to come out, which was not terrible, just info. Spring rolls were average. Not much taste, so be sure to have sauce. Mongolian beef was the only thing I thought that had good flavor. Orange chicken was fine, but needed a little more zip. Beef lo mein was good. Garlic chicken didn't taste like garlic to me, oddly enough. Broccoli beef - the broccoli tasted burnt...it was really weird cause it wasn't charred or anything. But the flavor was burnt tasting at first. Kung pao chicken wasn't very spicy, but had nice ingredients. Soups needed bit of salt. I preferred the hot and sour soup the most. I didn't like the miso soup at all. Egg drop soup was decent and your usual flavoring. The fried rice side is just white rice with soy sauce, no peas and carrots or egg inside with it. A lot of their sauces are the same I think..."tangy brown sauce". So a lot of the dishes will taste similar, just different veggies or meat. The lunch special is supposed to come with edamame, but there was none in the bags. So 6 lunch entrees ordered and no edamame, which is our favorite. I also ordered a side of steamed rice, and it wasn't in the bag either. So $100 of food and 2 parts of it missing. Didn't have time to check the bag before leaving, but I knew something would be missing because 9/10 times I get something to-go, there's a part of the order missing or wrong. Our server was really sweet. He recommended dishes and kept refilling our drinks. We tried the Fried Calamari and Scallion Pancakes. The Calamari had a nice crunch, but the pancakes were too flat. I had the Spicy Braised Beef Noodle Soup and did not enjoy it. The broth was bland and not spicy, but the noodles and beef were delicious. This was our 3rd time here - and it's hard to find authentic soup dumplings this far west of Richardson... we finally decided the shrimp and pork soup dumplings are our favorite. The broth inside the dumplings very good and the consistency of the meatball quite tasty! Be sure to ask for some of the fresh ginger sauce to dip the spoon and dumplings in! We started with veggie egg rolls and edamame. They're good but I think I could skip those in the future. Then we ordered a nice bottle of sake! The best sake I've ever had! Then we ordered 1/2 Peking duck and shrimp fried rice w bean sprouts! Omg the house made hoisin is amazing! Slather some on the bun (basically a tortilla) add some slivers of cucumber, scallions and duck! I prefer my skin crispier but that's nothing an air fryer won't solve later! I've heard amazing things about Dragon House so I decided to come for a little birthday dinner with some friends and my husband. We were able to be seated right away which was perfect because we expected a wait. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She made sure to let us know if something ordered would come out a little later because of cook time etc. My husband and I ordered scallion pancakes, vegetable egg rolls which came with a sweet and sour sauce, he got the crispy duck and I got the general tso chicken. There was soooo many things I wanted to get but for our first visit I wanted to stick to something I know I love. The scallion pancakes were pretty good. The sweet and sour sauce unfortunately started just like ketchup that maybe had a splash of honey or something. It was not your classic sweet and sour you'd find at most places. I was not a fan really but it wasn't bad either. My general tsos was pretty good though I was hoping for more spice since it's usually spicy and it had the pepper symbol. It came with rice and you could choose either white or fried and I chose fried rice. It was very bland but nothing the extra sauce from the chicken couldn't fix. My husbands crispy duck came with crepes and he said it was delicious. It is a very cute place and I'd love to sit outside next time under the lanterns. read more

We got the black truffle soup dumplings and the wagyu beef (steamed of course) and both were very good. We got the Szechuan chicken and stir fried hand pulled noodles and both were fine. I thought the brown sauce with the noodles should have more flavor as it fell a little flat. The sauce with the Szechuan chicken was very nice but even though I ordered it spicy, it still came out very mild. Will need to order extra spicy next time. All in all this is a nice place for elevated, dine in Chinese but the price is very high for the quality of ingredients and execution. read more

I am a fan of Dragon House. I use to go to the one in South Lake regularly. Now that it is near me I have to try the new location- and it was good. My server, whose name I will butcher, Sakema, was wonderful. He was attentive but recognized that I was doing my own thing and didn't bother me much. I will be asking for him in the future. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. My only complaint is that coming from the original location, I really enjoy the sights and sound of the noodle being freshly made. In this location it is hidden behind a glass. I guess if you don't know you won't miss it - but I know. Finally the food. It was just as good as the original.. I ordered the juicy dumplings-OMG good. I also got the lobster shrimp sui mai which started as a special at the original now I see it is on the regular menu. Awesome! I will be back. read more

Went there tonight to celebrate what was supposed to be a New Year celebration. Gave them special instructions to separate check each couple in our group, but their young waiter instead combined them together and had to wait 15+ minutes for them to separate it out after what was a great meal. Food was enjoyed by everyone there. They did not have our group reservation even though it was made two months ago with another manager. The manager tonight quickly had her staff set the private rooms up which was good thing, but did not follow my instruction to separate bill each couple instead they billed the entire table and then had to separate it out after the meal which took some time. That was a bad end to a great night of meals. Even the platters came out at different times during evening with some getting it quickly and others in our group having to wait 10-15 after others got their's. I usually love the food and service. I was surprised to find birria dumplings on display for $7. Even though they had the dates 5/4-7, I asked if they were still available. The server said he would check and then confirmed they were still available. I was charged $14 and the manager said the price was only available during that time frame. We decided to grab food after seeing a movie at the theater next door. We should've chose a different restaurant. As we entered the hostess and an employee behind the front area just stared at us. The hostess then asked what we were there for. It was very rude and unprofessional. We said we would like to order food and asked if we could get a table. Awkward! The guy in the front said "of course". Please note, the restaurant only had 2 occupied tables and it was an hour before closing time. It was a very bad 1st impression. Clearly, we weren't welcome. The booth seats weren't completely clean, but the restaurant looked nice. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls and orange chicken. The shrimp was fresh and was not overcooked. The spring rolls were good. The orange chicken was average at best. The plates are a stone material. They're beautiful, but they have that nails-on-chalkboard feeling. The chopsticks were a very slick plastic material that made them hard to use. They had forks, we just would've preferred to use chopsticks. My water was not refilled until we were about to leave. 30 mins before closing, and before we had a chance to finish our food, the waiter dropped off the check. He also placed to-go boxes, that we had not asked for, on the booth seat (not even on the table). A female employee walked by with the waiter and gave us dirty looks. Our waiter was fake nice even though he was rushing us. They rang up our check incorrectly. We were charged twice. It was fixed before we left. Sub-par food. Dirty booth seats. Today I tried this restaurant for the first time, yesterday I asked Google what was the best Chinese food around and this was the first option, usually I would not follow google recommendations, but I am glad I did this time, excellent place, service and food, great portions, I asked thinking in previous experience bit this time the portions were big and very tasty, I asked for orange chicken and fried calamari, this second was my favorite, but orange chicken sauce was great. I had a great experience. Prices are acceptable, in reality two persons could eat with what I asked. read more

My wife's favorite food is Chinese, and she loved it here. She said it is the best she's had in this area. I liked it and would gladly come back. I had the Hunan Beef and enjoyed it. I got Lomein noodles as a substitute for rice, and I thought the noodles were a little too "doughy". Probably just an off day. Everything else we had was very good. PAR-BOILED LO MEIN?! We dined in and ordered the Fried Cream Cheese Rangoon, which unfortunately arrived cold. The Steamed Juicy Pork Dumplings were only lukewarm as well. The Shrimp in Hot Garlic Sauce was especially disappointing -- for $26, the shrimp, vegetables, and even the sauce were cold. There's also a $3 upcharge to substitute lo mein for fried rice. That wouldn't be an issue, but the waitress mentioned the lo mein is par-boiled and reheated as needed. It tasted like soggy, packaged pasta, and the portion size was extremely small for the additional charge. Sorry, Chris C., but this was a one-star experience. read more

We have still not found what I would consider a great Chinese Restaurant since moving to Denton 5 years ago. Dragon House was our latest attempt, and latest failure. It just doesn't warrant a repeat visit for my wife and me. For starters we had the Fried Cream Cheese Rangoon. Have always heard of these as Crab Rangoon in other locations. We know why they place the emphasis on cream cheese and not on the crab here. The crab content was severely suffering. I also had the Hot and Sour Soup. It was excellent, and a good size serving. From there we went to the main courses - Sesame Chicken and Moo Shu Pork. First of all the quantity of each was huge. Each one was enough food for three or four people as a full dinner. So, don't let the prices scare you off because you will have plenty to take home. The Sesame Chicken, which I think should hold its own in terms of flavor and crispness came in an overpowering sweet and sour sauce. It also came with fried rice and we selected chicken fried rice. About the most bland fried rice we have ever had. The Moo Shu was the usual flavor that you get at Chinese restaurants, but here they do not do them wrapped in the rice pancakes like every single other place we have visited. We had to ask for them to wrap ourselves and they did not bring enough. The sauce was okay. We ended up taking lots of food home, most of which we never revisited. Overall we were not impressed. The ambiance here however is excellent. Feels very upscale for a Chinese restaurant. They put a lot of money into the décor, which may be why the prices are so high. I guess the way to get around the steep prices is order one item for your family of 4 and share it. There will be enough for all 4 of you. But then isn't one of the fun reasons for going to a Chinese restaurant is the sharing, which they have priced themselves out of. read more

This visit didn't quite meet our expectations, so we won't be returning. The restaurant's marketing was inviting, and we decided last minute to try the Mother's Day special--the rose dumplings. The wait was understandable given the busy atmosphere, but I only wanted to sample the dish and managed to eat just one of the four, a pink one. When I mentioned that the dumpling I ate had no meat, the waitress assured me that all of them contained meat--perhaps just a small amount--but I explained several times that the one I had eaten had none at all. We even asked whether it was just dough or if only two of them contained meat, since the purple ones looked like they had meat from the outside. She remained firm that all of them had meat, which felt dismissive. At one point, she took my chopsticks and poked the dumpling without asking, which caught me off guard. After the fact, we noticed that the advertisement on the table showed a markdown, with the price reduced from $12 to $8. We assumed that could explain why it was marked down--perhaps because there was no meat--but we hadn't realized this at the time. Combined with the wait time and the dismissive tone, the overall experience wasn't what we had hoped for. We appreciate the effort that goes into creating special dishes, but overall, this visit didn't quite work out for us. read more
