I really loved the vibe in this place. New, modern, clean, and best of all there were fans all over the outside patio. Fans that actually worked and kept you cool on a 90 degree south Florida afternoon. The food wash very good, especially the focaccia bread with cheese dipping sauce and blue berry butter. One of the most simple but delicious appetizers I've had in a long time. They also have a great cocktail menu. I had the coconut water mojito and it was delicious and super refreshing. Our experience at Drift overall was not great. We were there for Mother's Day brunch. The restaurant itself was well-designed but the food was mediocre and the service was terrible. We had to ask our server twice to explain the menu to us. He didn't seem happy about it. When our drinks arrived he just put them on the table and left. I had to ask four people to bring sugar for my daughter's cappuccino but no one seemed to have any sense of urgency. Finally, my husband went inside and asked again. It seems like service is the biggest issue in this restaurant. It's sad because the hotel looks amazing and the surrounding area is very nice, if they keep getting these kinds of reviews they might not be there for a long time, and I don't think I'll go back to Drift again. read more

I'm very sorry to say that the Drift has "drifted" below satisfactory. We ate at Drift a few times after it had just opened and it was wonderful. The food was creative and the ambiance was perfect. Our most recent visit in early March was horrible. The service was slow and inattentive, the food was overcooked and the hostesses were awful. We had a reservation for two at 7pm. They tried to seat us at a table in between two doors with lots of traffic on either side. I asked if a corner table set for four was available. The response was "it's set for four and not two". They then tried to seat us at a very large table set for four! After pleading profusely, they relented and sat us at the corner table I had requested. Big mistake! Service was slow. The bottle of wine I requested was not available and no suitable substitution. The food was not like we remembered. My biggest surprise was that the "on-line" menu had very different prices than the printed menu. A very disappointing evening for celebrating a birthday. I do not plan on returning. My husband and I had reservations for 5:45 Saturday night. When we arrived, the garage for the hotel was full and we found a spot on the street. We had received a text that our table was ready and we were excited to try the new place in town. While we were aware that outside seats were "first come, first serve," we were happy to see many tables available upon our arrival. Long story short, they REFUSED to seat us outside because we were two and the tables that were available were for 4. We spoke to the manager and our options were "wait an hour for a table outside or sit inside." Since we wanted to sit outside, we ended up leaving the restaurant, and all its available tables, because the manager refused to seat us outside. We could have been in and out of the restaurant in the amount of time the manager explained to us how inflexible and unaccommodating they were. To add to it, my friend, who had dined there earlier in the week, was seated at a 4 top and they were a party of two. The manager could have seated us, offered us a drink while we waited, or anything else, but he didn't. Our experience was not only negative, but insulting! read more

We are foodies. We adore our regular restaurants in Delray and Boca. Food flavor is top priority but in a restaurant, service is almost as important. We tried Drift a few weeks ago and were impressed with the menu and our entrees were superb. We sat at the bar and bar service was not impressive, not attentive. We chose to give it another try and were very disappointed that our bartender from the Bronx was more interested in the cute blondes sitting next to us. The food was creative and very delicious. The service left much to be desired. When it was time to pay, we asked if the bartender (not the Bronx one) would check to see if 2 of our gift cards had a balance, his response: "I already closed this out.". Is that impeccable service? If he worked for me, I don't think I would keep him. I recommend that management reassess the bar staff expectations regarding service. You lost us as regulars. read more

We went for brunch on New Years Day. A party of 4 we were promptly sat outdoors as requested which has a view partially blocked by a beach building but still was very pleasant.. the price fixe menu had very nice choices and they tried to accommodate one person in our party who was gluten free. The food was very good as we started with a basket of mini croissants followed by our choices of asparagus salad , fruit stick with yogurt sauce and deviled eggs. Everything was tasty. We had as a main a vegetable omelet, short rib hash and eggs and avocado toast. All in our party enjoyed their entree. The dessert was preset and disappointing. Choices I didn't care for along like feeling I was at Seasons 52 with those little cups. There was a few snafus by the server. We asked a few questions before we ordered and the waitress had to check the correct answer but apparently one at a time since we had to ready twice. My fruit starter came out 10 minutes after everyone's starter and there was a little issue with the dessert. Overall a pleasant meal but not sure worthy of the $120 per couple cost(Inc tax and tip) read more

This was our first experience at Drift and we had really high expectations. We were seated outside and ordered our drinks. Almost as soon as we received our drinks, before looking over the menu, our waiter Robert M. asked if we knew what we wanted to eat. We informed Robert M. that we would like to sit and just enjoy our drinks for a bit. He gave out a sigh and mentioned that we better order because other people had put in their orders and it would take a while before we got our food. After a while Robert M. came back and asked if we wanted to order anything and we ordered an appetizer. After finishing our appetizer and another drink we ordered dinner. My wife ordered the fish tacos and I ordered the burger, which I asked to be medium rare. When we received our food, my wife's tacos tasted like meat and my burger was not medium rare, at best it was medium well and cold. We informed Robert M. of the tacos and he grudgingly took it away. He came back a while later and asked if we wanted anything else, which we politely declined. Very shortly after, Sean, the manager and owner came over and expressed his concern over the food and took the tacos and a drink off our bill. Needless to say, that was extremely nice of him to do. Robert M. came back and dropped off the check with a "here." All in all, we would only come back because the appetizer and drinks were great, alongside the front of the house and Sean being accommodating. The attitude we received really put a damper on the rest of our evening and experience of trying a place we were looking forward to trying. read more

Like another poster here, we have given this place three chances. First time we wanted to check it out so we went to sit at some table that are on the other side of the door with fake grass imagine is for dogs. The gentleman explained that there was no service at these table and we had to get any food from the cafe, no food from outside was allowed. So we wanted some cappuccino with Baileys so I went to the coffee/snack shop and they said to order from the bar. So I went to the bar and ordered the cappuccino with Baileys. About twenty minutes later after having a drink while waiting at the bar no cappuccino yet. So I went back to the table that has no service and waited. Finally after about 30 minutes they brought the cappuccino ice cold. They seem to have a lot of rules and not one person knows them all. They must have skimped on automatic doors because at twoof the doors there is a person stationed there solely to open the doors when passing from patio to inside and at the entrance. Second visit was with another couple and the service was slow, the drink was not as ordered and items were forgotten. The third visit was with our family including 10 people. There was only one table outside to accomodate that many and it was taken, so we got one table of six and another nearby of four. The hostess escorted us and showed us the arrangement, however it was only 4:50pm and they cannot begin until 5:00pm. At 5:04 we went to sit at the table and were approached by another of the six hostesses if we had reservations and who told us to sit there. A second of the six hostesses then came and asked us if we had reservations. Appears to be a lack of communication among the hostess staff. We asked that both tables be on one check. At first they had no idea if it was possible and then they said because we ended up with two different waiters they could not do it, so we settled with getting two checks. One of the children ordered just a hamburger bun and it never came. Food was not so great but the Margherita Pizza was good as was the Italian Sandwich from the cafe. We have been to the Opal Sands in Clearwater and Delray Sands which is also an Opal property and food is supberb there. This Opal is nice inside even with its many confusing rules, but the food and service is not "Grand". read more

tried this newish restaurant tonight and am flawed by how wonderful this new establishment i. They opened last December and have nailed it! the service was wonderful and the menu has something for everyone! it ranges from small bites, to sandwiches, and salads to full courses. our drinks were excellen! we had a seafood stew which was absolutely delicious and a flatbread that we ended up dipping in the stews sauce! noice level was low and a very handsome crowd. I can't wait to go back to try more items. oh did I mention the ambience was stunning too! read more

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend at the Opal Hotel. The hotel is right across the street from the ocean. Drift, the restaurant in the hotel has great views! We decided to stay in the hotel, and eat dinner at Drift, the first night. We didn't have a reservation, and it was very crowded since it was Saturday night. But, they seated us, and made sure that we were comfortable. We had a great waitres, yes I still use the term, but don't remember her name. She was very petite, and so delightful. We shared the beet salad, and a green one. And, we both order a grouper, which was out of this world. It was so good that I ordered it the next night. The dessert was also delicious! We enjoyed it so much we ate there the next night, and lunch!! I highly recommend the restaurant, and also the hotel. Tyler, our server for lunch was outstanding, very helpful, and so nice! The restaurant Manager, Patricia was so helpful, courteous, helpful, and very nice. I met her when I was getting coffee in the café, and then in the restaurant, not knowing that she was the Manager over both. I want to compliment the entire staff, especially Patricia!! I've made a reservation for September, and plan to eat there at least once a month, or more!!! read more

Why did my family member insist on trying this new place when there are tried and trusted restaurants in Delray that we know and love :/ The service was TERRIBLE! -the WORST waiter EVER! Moronic, even. ALL the glasses had grubby finger/hand prints ALL over them. Gross. We were there at 5PM so it was not busy and all the waiters were just standing around chatting -RIGHT next to our table! All (party of 5) of our food came COLD! Almost empty restaurant, half a dozen bored waiters, yet cold food. Unacceptable. 3 of us had sub-standard Grouper -at least one of which was not cooked in the middle -it was raw and chewy. One of us ordered "french fries". But they weren't french fries -they were those stupid 'seasoned fries' -y'know the type that give you heartburn, not being actual "french fries" and everything. I cannot emphasize enough that the waiter was the absolute WORST ever, in every respect. He didn't even know what beers they had. He did not check back once after the food was served. And then he waited ages before he deigned to inquire if we wanted any over-priced dessert. Oh, and the server had his thumb in the food. Poor management, obviously. And a POOR chef. AND IT WAS NOT CHEAP! We will not be going back. read more

We have been waiting for this restaurant to open for months. It was really worth the wait. The food is excellent, the quality of beef and lamb is excellent and cooked perfectly. This is a great way to start a restaurant in Delray Beach. People in Delray are used to having a good selection of great restaurants and this will make a nice addition and we believe Drift will end up being a contender for the top position. Nice elegant first class environment in a beautiful setting with outstanding food. Did I mention the Cheese Cake....Do not think twice about having it because you will not be sorry. If you love Cheese Cake you are in for a treat, the best word to describe it is KILLER. I mean it ....We have lived in Delray Beach for over 50 years and we have seen a lot come and go but this restaurant will be a keeper, I assure you....Thanks Drift for a great evening and we will be back soon.... read more
