    Firecracker Shrimp

While speaking to someone local, they recommend this spot for a light lunch and it did not disappoint. We arrived around 12:30pm on a Friday and it was busy but they had plenty of seating that we were able to get a table right away. For our appetizer we settled on the firecracker shrimp. When we got them they were nice and warm! The sauces drizzled over the top was a nice touch and added to the flavor. When deciding how we wanted our Baja fish tacos cooked we settled on blackened. We had never had it this way and our waitress recommended it. We loved how the blackened fish gave the tacos another set of flavor to an already flavorful meal. The coleslaw was very good! You could have added it to the top of your tacos or just eat it with a fork, you really couldn't go wrong. Overall our dining experience was really good! It was fun to look around and see the display of local artists' artwork hanging on the walls. Everyone was very warm and welcoming. Highly recommend this place if you also want a light lunch with a laid back atmosphere!

Came here on a Sunday for lunch and right upn entry, we got a friendly greeting and given directions to where we could sit on the back patio with our pup. They had a surprising number of beers on tap and the service was very quick but the real star was the food, both in taste and portion. I had the red fish which was the catch of the day and it comes with such a large (and delicious) filet that the bun can't even fully close! Also had some remoulade drizzled on and would 100% order again. My wife got fish tacos and they came with 2 pieces of fish per tac, had a great crunch and flavor. For a casual lunch that is also a really good value (and has a huge area if you bring your dog) would highly recommend!

We stopped by recently on a Friday evening. We were searching for a place with a good variety on the menu and Driftaway Cafe fit. We chose to seat our party of 6 on the patio since the weather was so nice. Unfortunately we regretted that decision once the live music started. Although the patio area is fairly small, the gentleman chose to use an amp. While the music was decent it was just entirely too loud to enjoy our meal. We couldn't speak to one another at all after that except for his break. We noticed another table relocate inside after a few minutes, which we should've done too...just a tad harder for a bigger group (with elderly) unfortunately. The young lady who served our table was decently fast but not the friendliest. The food was pretty average overall, but my French dip was quite good and seemed to be the most enjoyed. Lowdown: good options and portions, fair prices, average service, but avoid the patio at night if you're there with family to enjoy a mealtime visit.

My friends Cuban sandwich was good and the broccoli cheddar soup was was very good. Inside is decorated very nicely with a bay and sky theme with boats and birds on it. Service was great.

Found this restaurant here on Yelp, we needed somewhere to bring our dog and this place was amazing!!! The food was really really good. We shared the crab dip appetizer and we both really enjoyed it! The salmon tacos were really delicious as well! The ambiance was so cool and the service was awesome too! Nothing but good things to say about Driftaway Cafe.

Overall, this place is really good for the location and price. There needs so be a deep clean in this place- it's one of those where you catch a word of something unpleasant when you walk in. It could be the carpet, or it could be the location (there's a creek in the back and you know how humidity impacts buildings here in SAV). There were also a lot of flies where we sat, that's just never a pleasant experience while you eat. The view if you sit towards the back is serene, we saw so many creatures and critters. Now that I got that out of the way, let's talk about food! I will say that the food options are a lot! There's something for almost everyone, I don't recall seeing many veggie or vegan options. The corned beef hash is probably the best I've had in the greater Savannah area. The menu except says "not your canned corned beef" and they are telling the truth! The chicken biscuit it also delicious. There's plenty of indoor seating, and the the bar looks like a cool place to sit and hang. When we left, live music was getting started. Service was spectacular. Our waitress was very attentive, even as the brunch crowd started to pick up.

Stopped by on a bustling Thursday around 6pm, 4 diners. Two of us wanted something seafood, other two were uncommitted to a preference. Service was pleasant and attentive to begin with but our server seemed to get over tasked and the last part of our dining time we had to search for her for refills, etc. Shrimp and grits and Pastafarian with scallops entrees were enjoyed by both diners Salads were abundant and fresh Great wildlife viewing ( cats, raccoons, deer) next to a little creek/ditch behind the cafe, as much food was outside to entice Fun vibe and decor Live music outside A/C and No Gnats inside! Check it out

The food was wonderful, we had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Our waitress was excellent and made sure we had what we needed. The atmosphere was fun, we sat outside and there was live music and the guy was good. I highly recommend you check this restaurant out when in the isle of Hope/Sandfly area.

I had higher expectations based on the reviews. We came for brunch, I ordered for the crab cake Benedict. The English muffin was overly chewy, the crab cake had shredded crab, not lump and was only ok in flavor. The poached eggs were a little overcooked and did not have the runny yoke and there was very little hollandaise. The potatoes were different, they had black beans intermingled in them and did not add anything to the side. We ordered coffee which took a while to come out and then took several requests to get creamer for them.

We had a nice lunch here and enjoyed the food and service. Only negative is we had a booth that had a lot of flies by the window. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife the shrimp salad. I had four nice breaded fish fillets with my order with a tasty slaw, fries, and good tartar sauce. My wife loved her salad. A lot of finely chopped shrimp in a nice mayo salad on lettuce. Our server took good care of us.

First time here and decided to the shrimp pastafarian. My waitress Marissa said they were large servings, my gosh she wasn't kidding. Great food, great service and lively atmosphere. The little waterfall out back just added to the vibe! Will be back!

Loved our lunch here while on vacation! I had the best shrimp of the trip in their bang bang shrimp tacos. The fries were battered and crispy! We had an attentive waitress, a friend also had a delicious burger. The atmosphere was super cute, a great beachy themed spot. We parked across the street in a larger parking lot, no problem.

For an appetizer, we had the lobster & crab rangoon dip, with won ton chips, fantastic! I have never understood why more places don't make this. I make this for every party we host and it's always a big hit. He had the fish sandwich with Wasabi coleslaw. The fish portion stuck out of both sides of the bun. He really liked the coleslaw and anything above like from him is a big compliment. I had the shrimp tacos with a vegetable medley, expecting the latter to be blah. Wow, deliciously sautéed red onion, red & green bellpepper, yellow & zucchini squash. The tacos were also fantastic. This is the first restaurant I've seen with Painkillers on tap! And they garnish them appropriately.

It does get busy, so be prepared for a bit of a wait at peak times, and the outdoor seating is pretty straightforward (right along the sidewalk), but don't let that deter you. Once the food hits the table, none of that really matters. The tuna tower appetizer is absolutely the way to start. That said, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything I've had has been flavorful, well-prepared, and clearly made with quality ingredients. And do not skip the drinks, specifically the pear margarita. Get one... or just go ahead and get two. It's that good and pairs perfectly with the seafood. Bottom line: it may not be fancy and it may be a little crowded, but if you care about great seafood and solid drinks, this place is worth becoming a regular

For $13, I get half a pound of fried local Georgia shrimp and fries. Can't beat it. Seasoned just enough, fried just right and piping hot. I specifically asked the gentleman at the counter how many fresh fish were available and made it clear multiple times that I only wanted fresh fish, as I was traveling back to Atlanta. He assured me he could provide what I needed. However, after he went to the back to gather additional fish, a significant portion of my order, at least 8 pounds out of approximately 20, turned out to be old and previously frozen. This was not visible to me at the time of purchase, as the fish was brought from the back and packaged without transparency. It felt deceptive, especially given that I clearly communicated my expectations and the purpose of my purchase. I have attached photos for reference, which further demonstrate the quality concerns with the fish I received. As shown in the images, the fish have cloudy eyes, which is a well-known indication that the fish is not fresh. This experience left me feeling taken advantage of, and it has completely eliminated any desire to return. Trust is critical when purchasing food, especially fresh seafood, and this situation fell far short of basic standards. I'm giving this business one star due to the lack of honesty and quality control. I strongly encourage others to inspect their purchases carefully before leaving.
