My external hard drive broke, and it had every photo I've ever taken on there. I was devastated, and very nervous about trying to get it fixed. I looked into places where you have to mail the hard drive to them, but I'm so glad I decided to go locally with Drive-Rescue instead. I was able to drop it off directly with Scott and know it got there okay (no damage in transit). It took 2 weeks, but I was more than fine with waiting. I did call a week in just to make sure I hadn't missed any contact from them, and they said that my drive with encrypted so it was a bit more difficult. I was super nervous but a week later, they called to say they were able to recover everything! It's a lot of money (minimum for fixing an external hard drive is $350-400+ and mine was ~$650 I believe), but COMPLETELY worth it. I'm so, so grateful to them and now need to figure out how to clone the external hard drive so I always have two copies. read more

Had some issues with my pc, I did some diagnostics at home and quickly realized I don't have the tools or knowledge to correctly diagnose what the issue was. Did some research and talk to multiple repair centers and decided drive rescue would be the ones to help. Unfortunately it was a mistake I learned from. If you want to go to them for disk or storage repair or something light then they're probably the ones to go to. Diagnostics however is not it. First red flag was when he said "it might be" the motherboard dying. That's one of the conclusions I came to while doing some simple google searches. I paid for a definitive diagnostic, not an unsure. Whatever, 50$ to be told what I already suspected, I didn't mind it since I planned on sending the mobo to the manufacturer. Then as I'm disassembling the computer to package and ship the motherboard, I noticed he applied thermal paste and reattached the cpu cooler. At that moment I thought that was very nice of him to do, since I gave him the setup with the cooler detached. It wasn't until I noticed that he placed way too much thermal paste to the point when he tension locked the cooler back on the thermal paste oozed off onto the motherboard. The thermal paste is now all around my cpu socket and practically bathing the cpu itself. I do not recommend this service if you care about your components. I had built the pc myself and I use it mostly for school and video editing. And now I might have to buy a new cpu if the thermal paste damaged any of the pins on the cpu. read more

I'm usually pretty careful (and paranoid) about making sure my data is safe, but I made a stupid mistake and I ended up messing up my external hard drive and having potentially lost everything. I was pretty certain on how to be able to fix my drive, but with the possibility of losing over 20 years of memories and other data I decided to play it safe and take it in to a data recovery service. I found Drive-Rescue and Scott was able to recover everything after a couple days. I dropped off a new drive for all my data to be copied over to. Since I had a lot of data it wasn't finished until the next day. When Scott called telling me it was ready to be picked up he said that as soon as he got off the phone with me he actually had to leave and wouldn't be back on site in a couple hours. Since I'm local I asked if I could just come in right away to pick it up and he said he would wait for me, which I greatly appreciated. While coming in to pick up my retrieved data, I asked Scott how bad I had actually messed up my drive. The severity of the situation was actually a bit worse than what I had originally thought. I'd like to say I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but I would have not been able to fix my drive had I tried to do a self repair and I'm glad took my drive in to Drive-Rescue. My iMac was dead the morning I was hosting a ZOOM meeting. I spent at least two hours on the phone with Apple Care, and in the end, it turned out my hard drive was not being read. We'd have to reformat the drive. Apple Care recommended a couple of data recovery places, but I would have to ship my iMac to them and hope for the best. As a wedding videographer, I am sure you can image my concern when one of my memory cards was completely dead. Unrecognizable to the camera or computer. I deal with computer hardware and software and this sort of thing all the time, I was almost positive I could recover the data.
