As a first time visitor of Drive Shack, we had a great time. Some fun golf games to play, and not having to manually keep score was good. The gentleman at the entrance counter was courteous and helpful in telling me what to expect. The only downside I'd say was the food service. We were at our station for over 15-mins and didn't have a waiter come. I had to go to the bar to request a waiter as I was so hungry. We had to continually ask for refills on our drinks and our waiter didn't check on us except one time throughout our 2-hours of playing. I know the issue wasn't because they were too busy as there were many open spots to play on. I still give 4-stars as the food was good and we had so much fun driving on the course. Hopefully our next visit we'll have better wait staff service. We also have a good tip to our waiter still as he was very friendly....but surely would've even done better on our tip had we not have had to push to get service each time. We'll be back. read more

A group of us came here on a Sunday to celebrate a friend's birthday... We made reservations and had no wait once we arrived. The place is set up just like Top Golf, but it's basically just a different named place, and the food here (at least the menu) didn't seem as robust. Service was ok, nothing special. The experience was also ok, as we had to ask a couple of times to get men's clubs, since both sets of clubs in our cubical were women's clubs. Food was decent, but nothing special. We visited Drive Shack for our company Christmas / Team building party. We had an awesome time and everyone loved it. We were a group of six guys in one driving lane area. From the outside it is huge three story mega structure that you can't miss from 288 highway when heading north near Broad Street. There was a large parking lot in front. I was glad I arrived early because there was about an hour wait to get a lane on the third floor. The third floor seems to give you the advantage when hitting the ball. There is a restaurant on the second floor and bar on the third. The lane had a L shaped couch and a coffee table. The area was very comfortable but the walkway seemed crowded if anyone stood there. I would recommend adding a behind the sofa table or shelf to place drinks on. It would give it more available hanging out space. Our server, Jade was excellent . I asked if she could split the bill based on food and alcohol so I could choose to turn in the food and game receipt but keep the alcohol seperate. She had no issues. Jade did a great job explaining how everything works to our guests and kept our drinks full. The food was actually really good. We started with a couple nacho appetizers and then moved on to burgers later on. Game play was so much fun. It took a little while to get used to playing but it was terrific. We played the dart board, monsters, and card game. Each really entertaining. For $35 per hour around 2pm for six people, I thought it was a great value. I am giving this place 4 stars for the actual golfing experience. This place just opened last week so the wait was an hour which is expected. We decided to get food and drinks while waiting. Now it took them over an hour to get our food and drinks which is extremely poor service. It looks very unorganized with servers walking around with peoples orders and stopping at each table to see if they ordered that particular dish. The whole dining and drinks area was so chaotic with the staff looking lost the entire time. Although the drinks were soooo delicious (get the cotton candy martini!!! You won't regret it), the food was very average. The golfing part was awesome!!!! The lanes were beautiful and the games were perfect! My partner and I had never picked up a club in our lives, but we had a blast here last night! We went to the Yelp Elite holiday party which meant free play for three hours, free food, a photo booth with Santa and the Grinch, a hot cocoa bar, and lots of cool swag to take home. We were greeted with a margarita at the door, and the staff made us feel welcome right away. Maria especially was as helpful as she was hilarious! Joe immediately began showing me and my partner how to even hold a club. He helped us get our swing down and would periodically check back in with us to offer tips and corrections to our game. By the end of the night my partner was already hitting his balls over 100mph! I got my aim down and was able to consistently hit the targets I wanted. We played a few games of "Shack Jack," their version of Black Jack in which you have to hit your ball onto the cards you want. We would've never come had it not been for the Yelp Elite event, but we had a wonderful date night I would gladly repeat! read more

We had an awesome time at Drive Shack. I've never been to a Top Golf or anything like it, so the whole concept was novel to me. I love any place where there is food and drink as well as an activity to do, all in a classy atmosphere - like Tang & Biscuit shuffleboard or River City Roll. This place fits right in with that. Although it's a bit outside or Richmond, it's worth the drive. They have a huge facility with a big parking lot. When we went (4PM Saturday), there was no wait, although I could see it being very busy or picking up at other times. There's no way to reserve a lane in advance, but lots of places to wait (bar, restaurant, rooftop, small arcade with tabletop shuffleboard). We were offered our choice of floor and setup (high top, table or lounge style - for the last one think typical bowling arrangement with L-shaped couch). The first floor is a very different experience from the uppers and I recommend second or third floor. They provide all the clubs (including lefty on request) in the price - $35 per hour before 5 PM and $50 per hour after. They have a pretty advanced tech setup and you can extend time from the screen at the lane. Although they have VR courses and silly games we just wanted to hit golf balls off the side of the building! Servers were attentive and all our items came out quickly. They have an extensive beer list and standard pub food. Not too many options for vegetarians - they definitely need an Impossible or Beyond burger - but we got pretzel sticks and tots. All the food was good, pretzels were warm and homemade. The final bill was a lot ($170), but included food, drinks and two hours of golf for four people. This place is great for a date, a large group (6-8 per lane), or even with kids during the day. We also love that it's close to Charlottesville - just under an hour drive. We'll definitely be back! read more

Giving this place another 5 star review after planning a birthday party here! First I will say that's it's a real bummer that's there's no way to guarantee two bays next to each other without going through their event planning and buying a food package which adds a hefty cost to the bill. For more than 2 bays I get it, but it just added stress to the planning. However, when I got in and told them it would be great if we could have our two bays together they made it work and were very friendly and helpful! We quickly got up to our bays and had an amazing time! The heat in the bays was enough for a blistery January night. We still had to wear coats but it was manageable! I've been here a couple times with groups and have had great service. The staff is so friendly and attentive. The games are fun even if I'm not great at golf. I was pleasantly surprised by the heated seats when I went today, which were much needed given that it was rainy and cold out. It was somehow dry and warm in our bay area...magic. I had a glass of the house Pinot Noir which wasn't bad despite the misspelling of noir on the menu. I ordered the ahi tuna bowl and there was too much sauce and the rice was undercooked. But I tasted the pretzel sticks a co-worker ordered and those were great. Everyone else in my group ordered burgers and seemed happy with their food. Lesson learned. Order a burger next time. This was my first time at Drive Shack and I really enjoyed my experience. This has 3 levels to hit golf balls from. The parking is expansive and easy to get to. Also the fees are per bay and not per person, which can be cost effective if you are more than one person. There are bars on each level and each is very nice. There is food also. there are various modes to hit golf balls with, including some that help you improve your skills, like Blackjack: when you view the tv screen above your bay, the screen shows the field below but all laid out as playing cards. You can then aim for the cards you want, in order to reach 21, just as in the card game and you play against the computer. Very fun!!! There is a conference area with a big screen that can be used and modified to any clients' needs. Also, there is a small inner courtyard to hang out with your pets in if you like, and it has astro turf and actually looks quite nice. I would definitely go back. read more

I wanted to love this place.. but it seemed super basic to me. The setup in the lobby area is nice and all, even the seating by the bay...but the game itself left alot to be desired. The area your aiming for seemed super simple..but the games in the computer were odd to us. You can swing 10x and it doesnt register on the screen. Now, I'm no tiger woods but I can hit the ball out there and it should count for something. I mean for $45 bucks an hour I'd like to enjoy the game. Our server was nice and helpful, paid us just the right amount of attention - not too little not too much...and he kept us happy. I doubt I will be back though. This is going to be long...l also want to state right away my parents are avid golfers and have been all my life. They currently live on a golf course and belong to the country club. So l have been to my fair share of driving ranges and golf courses all over the country. This isnt my first rodeo. Maybe l should say it isnt my first matchplay or lay up. We just went to Drive Shack to celebrate my husband's birthday. There were 6 adults, 2 toddlers, and a newborn. Upon getting there the lady said we HAD to have two bays since it was 7 max per bay due to covid. We explained that 3 of our 9 were 2 years old and under. She said it didnt matter. Okayyyy. But we dont need nor want the extra space and if we decide to congregate amongst ourselves, it hardly seems like an extra bay we were made to pay for but wouldnt be using, was pointless. But so be it... They put us up on the second floor. We were in bays 201 and 202. These bays dont have the couch seating, only high tops. Immediately lm having reservations. Where are the toddlers going to sit? How am l going to easily breastfeed my newborn (chairs dont have arms so its not going to be the most comfortable for me to hold him the entire time)? I ask for high chairs for the toddlers and ask if theyre tall enough for the high top tables. Theyre not. Facepalm. We request to be relocated to the first floor since we didnt have places for our kiddos to sit to be able to eat and rest. Also, the height of being on a higher floor is an added threat for our youngsters who have never been to a driving range. Drive Shack does have nets that would hopefully catch a child who got away from the attention of adults and decided to be brave and jump off but there are also small ledges that they could walk and fall off of. I dont think kids would do this necessarily, but its one less thing l wanted to worry about. We eventually get relocated to a first floor bay that has seating our children can utilize and that was great. I do need to mention at this point, both servers we had (upstairs and down) were great and very accommodating. They both agreed we shouldnt have been given the higher up bays for our party. And our downstairs waitress fixes it so we dont have to pay for two bays (thank you!) since we will only use one. Great! We order drinks and food. We got a lot of the shareable appetizers: charcuterie board (mehhh pics look great but just mehhh since the only cheese you get is mozzarella), nachos (dont bother), pretzel sticks (l would come back JUST for these!), chicken wings (didnt try but hubs said yum), and dirty fries (mehh). I was going to order a pizza or flatbread but never got the chance. It was super hot the day we went (96* and very humid). This isnt the fault of Drive Shack of course, but their fans in the bay are very minimal in keeping any coolness. So you may wanna bring either those neck fans or cold neck wraps if you go during summer months. Would l come back? Maybe when the weather is nicer outside. Would l request a bay on the first floor for young kids? Yep. Definitely. Let it be known you cannot bring any food or drinks in. I was stopped from coming in because l had a gold can of caffeine free Diet Coke. I asked our waitress if they had the caffeine free kind (breastfeeding). Nope. So l felt like my only option was water. I get the whole no bringing in outside food or drinks. But l think telling ppl at the door they couldnt bring in one can of soda is ridiculous. Newsflash: l cannot drink anything you have so l only ordered a water, you werent going to get me to buy anything for a drink since you dont offer anything l could drink (also diabetic from pregnancy so no sugar drinks for me). But being asked to leave the only drink l could have besides water in my car made me frustrated. Its not like l could order tea or soda. So that left a bad taste in my mouth. Its one thing if l brought in a cooler filled with drinks or flask of alcohol but a half finished can of soda...call the party police. I was frustrated by a lot of issues. Some were Drive Shack's, some were totally out of their control. But it did not make for a pleasurable experience. Would l come back? I probably would consider taking a Mulligan lol (giving them a second chance). I think l would try when the weather permits because we all didnt love our experience but many other reviewers clearly did. Maybe lm missing something. But our first experience was mehhhh. read more

Went here to watch the game! We were able to sit at a booth and have the waiter turn the TV to our game of choice. Our waiter, Stephen, was attentive. He took our order, refilled drinks, and made sure we were taken care of. I ordered the Asian salad. It didn't have enough dressing but Stephen asked the kitchen for more and I was accommodated.
