To say I was nervous about going to Drybar would be the understatement of the century. I was literally shaking before I went to this place with my coworkers. Why the fear? Well, I have very coarse, relaxed hair and it really isn't my style to just go to any ole' salon all willy nilly. I have my salon, I love it, and that is the only place I go to. Well, after calling ALL of my friends, my mother, and my fiance (none of them were able to cheer me up) I made the decision to take one for the team and go to Drybar with my coworkers. This lovely, super nice girl took me to the back and shampooed and conditioned my hair (with Moroccan Oil products, no less!). Then the girl lead me to a chair and started working. As soon a she began to blowdry -- I knew I had made the right choice. By the end of the blowout my hair was shining, bouncing and behaving (JUST as good as any Dominican salon). Now, I gave this place four stars because I am only one month post-relaxer, I am not sure I would recommend this place when your roots are really bad and you need a fresh relaxer. However, I will definitely go back to dry bar. The atmosphere is great, the people are so nice, and the results are superb! read more

I decided to get my hair done for my wedding at the flat iron location. I thought it would be a fun experience and wanted simple natural hairstyles just as they advertise for my bridesmaids and me. I asked my hair stylist to give me a braid with natural curls, and kept emphasizing that I needed it to stay all day since this was my wedding and was going to be taking pictures through out the day and night. I left the location and went back to the hotel to get ready which was a few blocks away. When I got to the room my hair was completely straight as was one of my bridesmaids. I called the general number to complain. I was on the phone for two hours on my wedding day trying to fix this. I didn't ask for anything extensive, at this point two hours in, I just wanted someone to bring a curling iron and supplies over. I kept having to call them back to get answers. I finally gave up on them trying to help and went to a reputable, well known salon to get my hair fixed. The manger eventually showed up at the hotel room to fix my bridesmaids hair but had an attitude and did a horrible job on the redo. I wasted two hours trying to resolve this to get mine and my bridesmaids hair fixed and lost out on taking pictures. Two hours on my wedding day on the phone with drybar was not what I wanted to do. After I complained, they gave me my money back and the cost of fixing my hair at the other salon but the woman who I was dealing with at the corporate office, Karen, after was all said and done said that she felt that she went way above and beyond what was expected of her and thought she was too generous. She reimbursed me for my horrible blowout falling flat and my hair being redone. She was rude and not pleasant to deal with. I will never go back to a drybar again. I would think on my wedding day they would have done anything to fix this. I was extremely disappointed. read more

I'm not the type of girl who gets her nails done or her hair blow dried...it always just seemed a bit too high maintenance. I'm a Brit and we just don't do that sort of thing but I do try to take pride in my appearance despite this and when a friend suggested we try this place I figured it couldn't hurt. Now I will be back at every opportunity! My hair has never looked so good. I'm used to having shiny but very flat very straight hair; no volume, movement or bounce. After 30 minutes here I was in love with the big bounce and glamorous waves that were now in place. My hair was big, but also light and touchable. The stylist (whose name I can't remember) was a black gentleman with bleached blonde hair, and a genius! I actually hugged him because I was so happy with what he'd managed to achieve. If I had the money to be back every day I would be but as I don't, I will return whenever I need a little pick-me-up...and maybe a few more times in-between! read more

I have been to DryBar one other time, and it was in Beverly Hills, so I guess I was spoiled there with great service, a beautiful, clean studio and a fabulous 'do; but my second DryBar visit, in Flatiron, NYC, was underwhelming. When I walked into the Flatiron location, the decor seemed a bit tired and the staff performing blowouts didn't seem to be as excited about their jobs. I was taken back right on time for my shampoo, so no complaints there; but when I was getting shampoo'd, another staff member came out of the back room, plopped herself into the shampoo chair across from me, large iced coffee in hand, and started gossiping with my stylist about her personal life. My stylist shampoo'd my hair so lightly with her fingers that I wasn't sure if it would lather; and I was worried that it wouldn't all wash out of my hair. I would have loved a bit more of a 'head massage'-like scrub, but okay, as long as it washes out (and it did). Once we got back to the chair, the aggressive sales pitch started and lasted during my entire blowout. Did I own any of the products in front of me? Yes, I did. Which ones? The yellow and green ones. And therein started the sale on the other two products I (conveniently) didn't already own. I said I wasn't interested in purchasing them, and then she tried to sell me another (a third) silver-bottled spray product behind the bar. When I gave a slightly-b*tchy smile-- to nicely imply that I was seriously done with the sales pitch and just wanted to relax and enjoy my blowout-- she tried selling me travel sizes of the two products I already owned. That's five sells in twenty minutes! I just stared at the movie and ended up ignoring her from that point on. Dirty Dancing was on, which accounts for one of the stars, above. Now, I'm a salesperson; I worked in pharmaceutical sales for five years, so I get it. But for a 20 minute blow-out, five sales pitches were an awful lot. And somehow in there, she dropped her brush on my lap and the handle happened to hit me right in the kneecap (of course it would, right?) and it hurt like a mother. She also held the dryer (literally) 2 inches away from my scalp and just held it there, multiple times, instead of constantly moving the dryer. I backed away and had to grab my scalp from the heat, and said "Ouch!" before she had any clue she was burning my scalp off. She then proceeded to ask, "Have you ever had a blowout before, honey?" as if to teach me that if I knew any better, I'd know this happens all the time, or something. Yes, I've had professional blowouts, and no, none of them burned my scalp like this one did. The final blowout was just okay; hence the other star. The one I received in Beverly Hills was way better, but in my Flatiron stylist's defense, I chose a different look this time, and maybe it just didn't work as well on my hair(?). When I got home, I noticed a LOT of hairs around my crown and part were broken off and frizzy (and that's with all the product she used to smooth it down!). The hair felt fried at the tips of all my new split ends. I kept thinking back to how closely she held the dryer to my head as she yanked and yanked with the round brush, all in an effort to quickly get me out of her chair so she could move on to the next client. Would I return to the DryBar at Flatiron? Definitely not. They have a lot of work to do before their customer experience matches that of the Beverly Hills location. read more

I wanted a $20 blowout from one of the many places in Chinatown, but I just couldn't get my butt down there. I decided to check out Drybar ($40 + $1 service fee) for it's location and good reviews. I booked an appointment online (if you need to cancel your appointment, you have to call) for what I thought, the early morning. When I arrived, I was surprised to see the place already hoppin'! It was a weekday morning and all of the chairs were full. I met my stylist and she brought me back to her chair. She asked me for my order and I replied that I wanted the Manhattan. We then went to the hair wash station and she proceeded to wash and condition my hair. Afterwards, we headed back to her chair where she used a roller brush to dry my hair and then went over everything with a flat iron. When she turned me around in the chair to show me my sleek and straight hair, at first I wasn't too thrilled with the look as it had a bit more volume than I was used to, but as the day progressed, the volume left and I had supremely straight, sleek and smooth hair. She told me it would last 3-4 days and if I wanted to maintain the look but my hair was getting oily, she recommended me to rub some shampoo into the roots of my dry hair. That I've never tried and we'll see how long this keeps. Overall, service was okay (I had to pull out my own leg rest when getting my hair washed and had to ask for a magazine to keep me occupied). The place has a nice ambiance to it and I would go back if I was in desperate need of a $40 blow out. Next to try: $20 blow outs in Chinatown. read more

Drybar is amazing. Fast and friendly service, at great prices. Its one of the only blow dry bars I've been to in the city where they don't shame you for having "difficult" hair (in my case, thick, curly hair). The stylists are nice, they chat with you but you can also just read magazines, listen to music, or relax with a cup of tea. The booking system is very easy to use as well. Be warned, you could easily get addicted! read more

I walked out of this Drybar location a very happy girl. It was super hot so I explained to my stylist that while I love waves, I had concerns about whether they'd stay in my hair. She showed me how to touch them up with my straightener, which I really appreciated. The woman working up front and my hair stylist were both really friendly. Unfortunately I was in a rush when I left and didn't ask either to take a picture of my hair but I absolutely loved it. Love Drybar! The concept is awesome. No cuts. No color. Just blowouts. I was in NYC and wanted to go to a salon for an event I had on a Friday night. After calling about 5-10 salons, they were all booked. I happened to call Drybar that morning and they were booked in both locations, oh well I thought.. everyone will see my Lioness hair tonight, sigh. I called back around noon and magically one person had cancelled. It was 11:45am and they said they had an availability at 12pm. I don't know how I did it, but I managed to shower and jump in a cab in less than 10min. The space is very modern, clean, and spacious. Everyone here is so nice. While they do your hair, you can read magazines, watch a movie, and drink. I decided to do the Cosmopolitan look with Keenan for $30. He is amazing and super cute! He looks like a Hawaiian version of Adam Levine. He washed and massaged my scalp and then told me I was going to look like a Victoria Secret model. We threw our heads back in laughter and told each other funny stories. Before I knew it, he turned me around to look at the mirror and WOW! Is that me? I absolutely loved my new look. Keenan is so sweet, he gave me a hug before I left. Walking down the street, I had never experienced so many people turning heads twice to check me out. Best part? It lasted a very long time and got better by the hour. read more

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Drybar. It was the day of my engagement photo shoot and I wanted to look nice. Unfortunately, the universe was thwarting that plan by making it 98 degrees with 90% humidity. I had an appointment at Drybar and was originally planning to get a nice curly blowout - only to realize that morning that it would never stay during a 2 hour photo shoot outdoors. I showed up to Drybar completely drenched in sweat (sorry!) and realizing I'd need an updo. So I walked in at my appt time and was assigned a stylist. As soon as I said updo, I saw the look on the stylist's face and realized that wasn't a normal request. She told me only a few stylists do updos.... and she'd have to see if anyone was available. There was a moment of panic that I'd have to do my own hair for the shoot - but a few minutes later, my life was saved when I was introduced to Jay. Jay gave me an amazing updo in a really short amount of time. I explained to her that I was going to be outdoors and needed the style to stay so she managed to make my hair look soft and beautiful while spraying it with adequate hairspray and hidden pins to make it stay all day and night. I was super impressed! Not only was her work incredible, she is great to chat with and made me feel at ease the whole time. As I left, I had a girl waiting in the reception area of Drybar take a photo of my hair b/c she wanted to show it to her mother for her wedding hairstyle. That's a true show of how great it was! I came here as a treat to myself ant to try it out. I was put in the chair very quickly. The stylist did let me know I could just get my hair styled and not washed as I had washed that morning. I asked for a Mai Tai. It was very pretty but the curls relaxed quickly. I perhaps should have just gotten one of the straighter looks. It is $49 per blowout so it is expensive. They do offer you something to drink with your service. Overall, I thought the price was high. read more

Backgound: I came in here to get a blowout for my engagement pictures at 11:00am. My appointment was for 9:00am. I couldn't decide between a cosmo or a mai tai or a cosmo-tai. My stylist (I believer her name is Kim) suggested I do cosmo so I went with that. Pros: - the iced coffee that was offered was really yummy - the receptionist (young female with pink hair) was super nice! - the music volume was great; loud enough to hear over the hair dryers but not blaring Cons: - I got one of the seats without a tv :( - the dryer was a tad too close to my scalp so it burnt a little - THE STYLE DIDN'T HOLD AT ALL!!! I had a makeup application appointment at Sephora in Soho for 10:00 and by the time I got there the "blowout" was already getting flat! I tried to emphasize to the stylist that my hair doesn't really hold curl that well but she was somewhat brushing my comment away and not really listening. She used very very minimal hair spray and that's it. The make-up person at Sephora had to re-do my hair with their products because there really wasn't any volume/curl left! So now it's 4:45pm and I have very minimally wavy hair in the front and the back is pretty much straight!! I love the concept but for $40 + tip it should last more than an hour!!!!! read more

I have stick straight Asian hair - a blow dry's worst nightmare. Women invest major bucks in flat irons and straightening products for hair like mine. And all I want is curly curly. Maybe that's why it took a good thirty minutes between the time I checked in for my appointment (totally on time) and the time I was finally put in a chair - the stylists were all probably cowering and drawing straws to see who'd be stuck with me. Not cool when the bride I was riding along with had a tight timetable to follow. Even worse, the receptionist was sulky and demanded to know my drink order without giving me the options. Things got a whole lot better when I got situated in Jinisa's chair. She took me on like mission impossible. And she was not only cheerful, she was expert and strategic: she knew to skip washing my hair so the the natural oils could help hold the curl, and she knew to make the curl tighter so they'd last longer. Eight hours later, I was still rocking her curly creation. But then the DJ threw on some 90s hiphop, and all the Jinisa's in the world couldn't stop what the subsequent, sweaty dancing did to my hair. read more

Came here with a group of girlfriends a few hours before my wedding rehearsal dinner. Pro: The lady who did my hair was very sweet and it looked beautiful. Cons: Surly service from the people who serve drinks (and most everyone else there). I had to ask for water 3x and the 3rd time I actually heard the lady doing my hair mention it to someone else in Spanish that I had asked 3x and still hadn't gotten any water (she didn't know I can speak Spanish). I needed it because I wasn't feeling well due to a viral stomach infection that I was recovering from and the fact that it was the day before my wedding so I was really trying to stay hydrated. I actually felt somewhat uncomfortable being there as most of the staff seems to have a chip on their shoulder and seem pretty miserable which just isn't relaxing to me. Also, it doesn't cost 'only $45' as they advertise everywhere..with taxes + their 'suggested' $10 tip that is in writing at the cash register = it's closer to $57 . Sorry but that is too expensive for what you get here! I'm going to support my local salons the next time that I get a blow out - definitely not this place. read more

I don't know why others are hating. I thought this place was fantastic. First, upon entering, they offer you a glass of champagne which is wonderful. Second, there is an assortment of other refreshments as well. It's also great that they show you the look book before the blowout so you know exactly what you're getting. I combined two styles and I was extremely satisfied. My hair looked stunning--just the right amount of sexy waves and bounce. The entire experience was very relaxing. So far both my experiences at drybar flatiron has been disastrous. I used to visit their original location in Los Angeles and was happy with the service. I've been to this location twice and been disappointed both with the overall service as well as my blow out. The manager wanted to comp me but quite frankly I didn't take the time out of my busy week to get mediocre or bad service and comp is not what I was looking for...I simply would like professionals with no fake nails that dig into your scalp and pull your hair out while you're getting your hair washed! I feel like I lost hair instead of getting them blown out. read more

I love love love Drybar but felt the need to revise my review. Not all stylists are equally good and I've been stuck with some bad blow outs (although the staff has been accommodating a graciously comped me for one of these situations). This is a long-winded way of saying ... I think it's time that drybar allows you to schedule appointments with a stylist directly. It is not possible to do so online or the app. Any time I've put it in the notes, it's touch or go if the assignment is made. And any time I've called to request a stylist, it is very time consuming and complicated. Please allow this scheduling option. Would make the experience much better and guarantee happiness with your hair! read more

I booked appointments for my friend and me here to thank her for hosting me in New York City for a long girls' weekend. We were both completely pleased with the pampering, service and our hair for days! We had some rescheduling that had to happen because I had originally booked online appointments for us at this Drybar for a Friday morning, but when my friend had to change her schedule, I had to find a time on Saturday less than a week ahead. That was not as easy! In fact, in the time we were conversing online about the 9:15 a.m. appointment, we lost it and had to take 8:30 a.m. (With the online appointments, there is no penalty for cancellation, but they ask you as a courtesy to cancel with 12 hours' notice. I didn't cancel until I had the new appointments, and the woman on the phone was incredibly professional.) But this was quite fine. Although we had to start early taking the N Train from Queens, it was pretty relaxing at Drybar, as it was very quiet and there were few others there. We enjoyed our coffee and water with lemon during the short wait, and then were whisked back to the shampoo area, where we both received excellent scalp massages. (I reserved the blowout and "floater.") I really thought it was excellent, not perfunctory and lasted long enough to really relax me. I had that lovely moment or two of semi-conscious lucidity one gets during a great massage. After this, we were taken back to the "bar" to have our blow outs and styles. Both of our stylists were friendly and chatty without being overwhelming, and we were both relaxed and enjoying our day. The receptionist refilled our waters and coffees for us while we were being styled, and we watched the movie that was silently playing and discussed different things (my stylist hadn't heard of Blushington, the Drybar makeup affiliate). We both LOVED our styles! I have long, thick, wavy hair, and I had asked for the cosmopolitan, and I loved what my stylist did with my somewhat stubborn tresses. I felt great all day, and, in fact, my friend said later that night, that my hair just looked better and better all day! My friend loved her hair, too, and commented all weekend on what a great experience that was, what a good friend "date" we had had there and how much she loved her hair and kept loving it. Next time I'm in NYC, I will definitely be back at Drybar (Flatiron). It was everything I hoped it would be! read more

Just had a great opening day blow. They have an iphone app, online booking (no cancellation fee or cc req to book), and seem very organized for a first day in biz. They have a book of styles that is really helpful, plus a menu that includes their "Mai Thai", which I went for. Beachy waves. Love. For $40 you get great service, shampoo, blowout, and champagne if so inclined. Happens to be on my street, but even if it were not, I'd go. Will be back again! read more

Drybar has become and integral part of my beauty routine. After cutting my naturally curly, african-american hair very short in January of 2014, I struggled to find a trustworthy/comfortable place to receive that pin-straight look I could previously achieve (and still occasionally desire) with chemically treated hair. This particular Drybar has repeatedly exceeded my every expectation. While they don't specialize in a specific type of hair, each and every stylist is so sensitive and attentive when styling hair of every texture, length and condition. I won't say I leave Drybar with the same feelings about the finished product (no two blowouts are the same), but I will say that I leave Drybar feeling like a princess each and every time. Once you find that perfect stylist, stick with them. They know what you like and how certain things make you feel and this honest, open conversation between stylist and client is what makes Drybar so special! I'm a busy college student with a full-time work/class schedule and I owe all of my good hair days to Drybar. I go every week. It's kind of insane. read more

Um. I take back everything I've ever said that came close to coming off as ignorant judging (is that even a phrase?).....such as: "WHY does a blow dry place even exist?" It exists because holy sh*t it changed my life. "WHO would spend $40 on getting their hair blow dried?!?" Memememememe. "Blow....dry" I came here with a bunch of girls as part of a bachelorette party. We all got blow outs before going out with the bride-to-be. I have RIDICULOUS amount of hair. I'm talking if I wanted to lose 10 pounds I can go to the hair salon vs. the gym. So I always am amazed when someone can style it well...and extra bonus points if they don't ask another person for help. I can't for the life of me remember the girl I had but she was amaaaazzzing. I got a mixture of three styles they usually do. It was straight and wavy and beach-y. I felt like a bajillion bucks!! Although it did take her twice as long as the stylists working with my friends but it's not her...it's my hair. read more

She is also friendly and nice - no attitude. Looks like the salon has gotten rid of "frills" like offering you a drink of water (I had to ask) but I don't care. I always love the extra little things like the little IPhone chargers, close caption movies and white wine. I prefer this location because I like the area. Curly Girls: AVOID!!!! this location. I was initially very optimistic because the stylists mostly had naturally curly hair, or some variation of curly hair... so it was promising. It was false advertising though, or whatever that might be, because all the curly styled girls I saw today (myself included) ended up leaving with hair not looking as fabulous as this place promises. I saw a couple of ladies who looked better when they walked in than when they walked out. Keep reading for more details... I have curly hair. Think: anywhere between 2c, 3a, 3b, 3c on any given day. It's pretty intense. I'm a curly girl (big Ouidad fan)...so I never (ever) blow dry my hair, unless it's with a diffuser and cold air on my drying curls. The last time I had my hair blow dried was in November 2010... and before that, September 2007. That's pretty infrequent if you ask me. So, yes, I was a little bit angry that the stylist said to me, "Hey, lay it low on the blow outs for a while. Your hair is experiencing some breakage." Thanks, Sherlock. I've had years of bad treatment at pretty awful salons that do not know how to handle curly hair. My breakage has nothing to do with a blow-out I don't even get. Well, she also asked if I get relaxers (*never* in my life-- naturally and proudly curly!). Lady, please mind your damn business about why my hair has so much breakage. I have a full time stylist back in Massachusetts and I do not need your opinion. I'm only here for Christmas eve because I wanted a one-day style. I do not need comments from the Peanut Gallery. Well, I was served water when I got there. It tasted citrusy. Had I known it would taste like that, I wouldn't have had it. Okay, I haven't yet spoken about the actual blow out. I got my hair blow dried by a youngish woman with tightly braided hair. I asked for the Mai Tai, afraid that she might not be able to pull that off on a hair as curly as mine. It does look as if it's a style for people who already have stick-straight hair. Well, she (pretty much) pulled it off. The curls she formed with the iron were supposed to look more like waves, but they ended up looking like curls. The front of my head looks very nice, but the back was very uneven. I only know that because I was told so by people later on! When you blow dry curls, you have to make sure you get the scalp as well as every strand of hair on the head. Not just what's on the surface/viewable to onlookers. It's just okay. There really isn't much more to it. I have an appointment at the Back Bay location next Monday, just before New Years Eve, and I am on the fence about whether I will go or not. I'm going to wait to see more people tonight to hear the comments-- positive and negative before I decide. If I do go, the Back Bay better prove to be a better experience than this. Oh. My. God. I was getting ready to go out for dinner when I went to do final touch ups and I felt the bottom layer of my hair. The stylist did NOT blow dry my bottom layer, instead leaving it in its natural curly state. What the hell did she do??? I just wasted $40 and a tip. What the hell?? Drybar, until now, I've kept that appointment at the Back Bay. I just had to drop it another star. In one day, this review has gone from 4 to 3 to 2. Total fail, Drybar. Will my money be better spent at Blo in the South End next week? Probably. But I can't knock it before I try it there too. Please don't fail me again. read more

Hi, my name is Anna and I'm addicted to Drybar. NO SHAME. I came here this past Thursday for a blowout and was rather excited at the idea of coming back to this location, since this is where my love affair with Drybar began nearly a year ago! The only difference was this: I had not made an appointment. Sure, I go to Drybar so often I feel as though I should have been on some VIP list but sadly we're in the land of reality and that didn't happen. I walked in and explained though I didn't have an appointment, I had a lot of time and would like to be on the list. One of the ladies behind the receptionist explained that there were about 3-4 (can't recall the number of people) ahead of me who were walk-ins and to come back around 4PM to check out the situation. Fair enough, I used to live in this neighborhood for a 1/3 of my life so I knew how to keep entertained! To ensure I wouldn't be forgotten and I would have a place on their waiting list, I suggested to them that they take my name and number and call me should a spot become available before 4PM or if the blowout simply wasn't going to happen. Waltzing back in the door at 4PM, both the same woman who greeted me along with the receptionist recognized me and said that there is still a bit of a wait but I'm welcome to stay. They were glad to see me and offered me a drink and suggested I get comfortable. The same woman kept checking on me, gave me updates and reassured me that I wasn't forgotten and that she felt awful I was just waiting. I just explained I'm a patient person, I didn't have anywhere to go quite yet and I had been to Drybar enough that I know I'm paying my moneys worth for service and style. So I sat. At about 4:30 - 4:45, Kevin greeted me with a hardy handshake and offered to take my faux jacket (it was a blazer). We sat down for no more than literally ten seconds because I knew exactly what I wanted and gave him every detail. During the wash he gave an excellent scalp massage that gave me the impression he had put some thought into it and asked towards the end if it felt any good. He then led me to his station, sat me down and we began to chat more than we already were by the basin. It wasn't even a forced conversation, it was very natural and enjoyable but when it came time to the actual blow out Kevin concentrated and I was enjoying me time. Towards the end, he asked me honestly how he was as a stylist, was there anything he could do better or what wasn't good at all and finally, he asked if this was the best blow out I had ever gotten. Honestly? At this location with this style I can say yes, this was the best blow out I had gotten because the results of my hair met my expectations but the service and how Kevin was so attentive just really impressed me. He works Tuesdays and Thursdays, by the way. There's a third day but unfortunately I can't recall! Throughout the styling, I kept drinking my mimosas and was paid attention to by the receptionist and same woman - who at this point I'm beginning to think was the manager. It was marvelous. A perfect way to pamper oneself on a Thursday evening. ___________________ Note: If you're wondering if I'd ever do a walk-in again the answer is no. My friend and I were unable to book an appointment over the phone but decided to just stop by the shop anyway. I'm glad we did because they were able to fit us both in within 10 minutes. I expected more in terms of the shampoo and scalp massage. It felt very short and rushed but my blowout looked great and the stylist definitely took her time to use a few different products to make sure that my usually limp hair didn't fall flat. Before I start off this review, my first experience here was amazing. My stylist was great, she executed exactly what I wanted and made me feel taking care of. Hence the 2-stars and WHY I decided to book here for a wedding trial... Now, I scheduled an appointment for an UP-DO in advance as a trial for my wedding. The lady I spoke with told me she made a note in the system and would make sure that I was with someone who specialized in doing up-do's. The day-before I confirm my appointment and review that it says UP-TINI (trial run). Well, I arrive and am taken on time. I tell the girl that I'm here for an up-do and she looks at me a bit puzzled and tells me that it will cost extra. Okay....I'm aware of that since I did book this appointment. I then show her a picture of what I want and she then tells me she doesn't do up-do's, but could pass me on to someone who does, who would be done with a client in 10-mins. That would have been fine except I had an other appointment made right after my blow out that I didn't want to run late for. The other girl finishes up, but I am told up-do's are done on dirty hair. I wish the people at corporate who you book the appointment with would tell you this since I had a ton of dry shampoo and was looking forward to getting shampooed...I thought this would part of every service they offered?! So I go with just a basic blow out at this point. Completely disappointed and confused why a simple, yet important appointment for me was taken so poorly. Bottom line..I should have had an appointment with someone who could have done my hair for my special day. I never complain and at the end of the day it is just hair. I just wish the next time I take my one day off to trek from NJ into NYC to specifically GET AN UP-DO TRIAL FOR MY HAIR...that the appointment should meet my request. I went in to this location Friday November 1st with a friend to have our hair done for a Halloween party later that night. We had zero expectations and I was extremely nervous how it would turn out - volume and my long head don't pair well together, typically. Anais immediately put me at ease and assured me I wouldn't leave the salon unless I loved my hair. She would talk me off the ledge each time I started panicking and explained the styling, along with the "why" behind it that would be flattering to my features. Everything about the experience made me feel so much better and I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks. I get a blow out 1-2xs per week. Many of those blow outs I get at the dry bar. They are conveniently located and you can always get an appointment and typically their staff is courteous and professional. Not today. After shampoo, stylist said "ok your done, follow me". I sat for minute waiting for him to put my long hair in a towel and realized he had actually left me and was already back at his station. So I had to walk to his station with my wet hair and no towel. I'm no stylist but I have never seen any one complete a blow out like him. At a few points he actually asked me to hold my hair. Don't they have clips for that? When he was done, he turned me to face mirror, got my coat, handed to me, and went to get his next client. I don't even think he said goodbye. All of this would be fine if my hair looked good, but I can say that this is absolutely the worst blow out I have ever had. I actually think that I'm going to have to go have redone it looks so terrible. Probably should have complained while at the location but seemed wrong the day before thanksgiving! read more

I like this place, I really do. They have plenty of talented stylists who do amazing work (including on natural mixed African American hair). Everyone who works here is super friendly-and my appointments always start on time. The only reason I don't LOVE it here, is because I've had some bad experiences where stylists haven't known what to do with my hair and it looked kinda cray cray (although I was offered a complimentary blow out which was amazing). Other than that, Drybar is my friend and I'll keep coming back. I adore the "Manhattan" blowout its sleek and straight and lasts me a whole week. If you haven't tried it already please do so! Is it better for curly girls then Blo on the UES? YESSS. Is it more affordable than (my all time fave) Ryan Darius? YESSS. I love thy DB. read more

Ran 20 minutes late before starting my appointment but the staff said it was because they had fewer employees there that day due to the opening of a new store. Fantastic experience! It is the perfect spot for an amazing blow dry at a great price! Staff is super friendly, fast and they do a great great job! It is so convenient, you watch some girly movie (Notting Hill was playing, awwww), you get from tea to a glass of wine, a look-book so there are no questions on the style you are looking for. My blowout was with Sarah and she was amazing! My hair is very long and a ton and she finished it on time and it looked amazing for the entire evening! She also recommended a dry shampoo for me when i mentioned that I have to wash it every day. Not that this is some big revelation but... She was listening and gave me a good solution!!! I was nervous to try Drybar after all the mixed reviews + I've never gone to a salon just for a blowout. I had a premiere to attend and I was hosting the party so it was so important to me that my hair look fabulous and not be a flop. I didn't see any mention of stylists in any reviews so I called and asked to recommend one (this is a very trying process). I have a lot of hair and it's pin straight, it doesn't hold waves or curls for more than maybe 2 hours before it looks like yesterday's do. I got to the salon 5-7min late and b/c of that, was bumped to "walk in" status - so I ended up waiting 25min to be seen. Only to realize the person I'd booked isn't working! I panicked but then just had to roll with it. Reception was nice enough but clearly couldn't give a crap about my issue knowing 8 other girls were sitting and waiting. Christina was my stylist and she was really nice and welcoming. I brought in a pic of what I wanted which was a loose beach wave but I LOVE volume so I told her to not be afraid and make my hair big on top. I had fun talking to her and sipping champagne while charging my phone at the chair. I walked out with tons of curls "The Cosmo" however when I saw myself I said "OMG you made me look like such a sexpot!" I loved it - who cares that it wasn't what I asked for! I knew it would fall looser but it was too tight for my liking so she ran her hands through it and fluffed it up. When I got to the party, everyone was like OMG your hair looks AH-mazing! Sadly I injured myself and was unable to do my own hair. Then I find out my regular beautician is out of town. I didn't have time to go to my back up Dominican spot in BK so I decided to give Dry Bar a try. I did some researching online, saw good reviews and I liked the concept. I chose the Chelsea location since it was most convenient. I was nervous because I was afraid that due to the location and what I assumed was the typical clientele, the stylists wouldn't really know how to best tame this beast aka my hair. I was relieved when I walked in and saw black stylists, hope was alive!!!! The hostess offered me a complimentary cocktail which I felt was great. When my stylist came and wasn't black, anxiety hit. I've had not so good experiences allowing my hair to be done by ppl who aren't familiar with my texture hair. After blow drying, she wasn't too sure how to flat iron my hair to give it that sleek look but the lead stylist came over and offered guidance which I greatly appreciated. And later another stylist helped show my stylist how to properly straighten my edges and how to wrap my hair. I'm sure it was a great learning experience. Not sure if I would return just because there aren't any products that cater to my hair type, I would have to bring my own. Best place for a blowout ever! I loved my hair- Jennifer was my stylist and I will definitely request her next time I go back. I had the Cosmo-tai and it looked amazing! Pros: price is right, they serve snacks and drinks, menu makes it easy to show what you like, great end result Cons: uncomfortable washing station which ultimately makes the "floater" head massage null and void because your neck will hurt the entire time you are resting your head in the sink. Minus one star. Dry bar- please update your washing stations to those comfy flat lounge chairs! In retrospect, if you want your hair to look great for a special occasion, go to Dry Bar! This was a really cool place. My best friend took my here as one of my gifts for my 25th Birthday. They have a number of hair stylists & you can make reservations so you don't have to wait. It's only $40.00 for a blow out which I don't think is bad & they do such a good job. They have some styles that you can choose from. I chose Souther Comfort: Big hair & volume. Sarah did my hair & she did a great job. You can order drinks while you get your hair done & they have movies playing & music. They even have a place for you to charge your IPhone. You can also buy extras if you don't just want a blow out like a $10.00 massage that my friend also got me. It's a really cool place & the idea is really great too. Love. Love. Love. From the moment I walked in the door everyone was so nice, cheerful and helpful. Nobody had that 'stuck up' attitude that some staff can have when they work at a place such as this. I was introduced to my stylist and she brought me back to a comfy chair with a foot rest in reach - we discussed the style I was looking for and then we were off to wash. I am someone who hates getting their hair washed by someone else - but this was one of the best washing experiences I have ever had. I was comfortable, my feet were spread out and rested upon a wooden step, and my neck was not strained in the slightest. My stylist did a great job massaging my scalp softly and rinsed out my hair without a single drop getting on my forehead or ear. It was great. I sat directly in front of the TV which was showing the end of Mean Girls and then began to play Love Actually. I was offered drinks and little snacks. I seriously felt like I was in the comfort of my own home. Another reviewer stated she didn't enjoy that her stylist was chatty - and I would agree with this - I hate when I have to make small talk with stylists - when I go treat myself to beauty appointments (hair, nails etc.) I want to relax and not worry about chit chatting with someone else. My stylist I had at Drybar did not once attempt to make small talk and was very much aware that I was enjoying the movies and quiet. It was great!
