I've been to several drybar locations but it was my first time at the Union Square location. I frequent drybar enough that I recently got a membership. Reception: No one was at the reception desk when I arrived - That was fine. i assumed the receptionist had to step away for a second. But when the receptionist returned a few minutes later, there was no courtesy explanation that you'd normally get from a receptionist. Wasn't offered any water - this is fine too but not usually what happens at other Drybar locations. Stylist: My stylist was pretty friendly and attentive. She mentioned more than once that she's fast at the blowouts. When I was done, she even mentioned I was done in less than 30 minutes. I don't know if that should have been emphasized since drybar advertises that its blowout service is for about 40 mins. Less isn't always more, right? Hair: I chose a cosmo. The stylist used a blowdryer and rollers for my hair. I have wavy hair so stylists typically blowout my hair and use a curling iron. She sort of curled the ends of my hair so my hair is still pretty frizzy. Drybar offers ONE service so I feel like I shouldn't have to explain that my hair was not blown out. Was my hair worked on? Yes. But what I got was not a blowout. Is there a manager for each region? If so, please refocus on this location. read more

I have been going to Drybar for many many years . Newport Beach, LA, Atlanta and now San Francisco. This Drybar is the worst. I actually cancelled my membership because of this location. With that said I had three blow drys left. The first one was great and sweet stylist. Today.... I can't even believe what happen with my Blowdry.... First my stylist was rough on washing my hair and tugged and managed to get soap and water in my eye. Where she then offers me a towel and smashes it in my face. It was abrupt and very strange behavior. Before we go back to the seat she asks me what tension I like? Tension? I've never had anyone in all my years ask me this? I said normal as I had no clue what she was asking me? As for the Blowdry... she was rough and I asked her to be gentle. That seemed to annoy her. She could have said not a problem. She was very aggressive so I finally asked her to stop blow drying my hair. I couldn't take it any longer and to be honest I couldn't believe I had to walk to the front desk to ask for a new stylist. I also complained when speaking to the front desk and asked if I could speak with a manager. The person who was drying my hair is the manager..... They gave me someone new to finish my blowdry but I had to still sit next to the women who was pretty much giving me whiplash. Then she turns to speak to me and tells me that she asked me about the tension... which I then had to advise her I didn't know what she was talking about... needless to say she grabs my hand which I have to advise her to please not touch me. By this point I've had enough. She didn't like what I said to her and tells me to leave? I am not kidding? I have NEVER had any altercation in public. There was no screaming or yelling and this women is unprofessional, rude, abrasive, obnoxious and even worst unapologetic. She takes no ownership in her behavior and in my opinion the wrong person for this job. Drybar is a good company and what happen today was unacceptable. In the most least annoying voice #YAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSS to Drybar, this location and this pretty amazing stylist named Najae! I schedule an appointment day of, as a friend and I were heading to an event the evening and were too lazy to wash our hair for 3 days (it looks better dirty, FYI but not grossly). I was able to get a slot right at 5pm after work, so was happy to try this location out for the first time. The setup is awesome, reception friendly and Najae (my stylist) was awesome and FREAKING AMAZING! No joke (see pictures). This is one of the top 3 blowouts I've gotten in my life, and I've gotten a lot -- thank the Persian culture and the blessed hair we have (lol). My friend & I had 3pm appointments on a Saturday. I expect salons to always run behind on Saturdays so wasn't surprised when we were still waiting to meet our stylist at 3:15pm. I was surprised when the receptionist told us our blowout was on them since they were running 15 min late. Personally I'd be happy to always wait an extra 15 minutes for a free blowout. When my stylist mentioned she was new to Drybar I worried she wouldn't be able to straighten my crazy curls, but fortunately she handled the round brush like a pro. After 45 minutes in her chair my hair was straight, full and just how I like it. Unfortunately, my next stop was a cruise where the wind kinda ruined my perfect hair, but it still looked way better than if I had attempted to do it on my own. A few days later my blowout remains intact thanks to touching it up a bit with the flat iron. It's worth noting that I never have to touch up my hair after a blowout back at home, but then again I usually don't find myself on a windy cruise. I also don't love that you can't choose your stylist when booking an appointment. My stylist mentioned you can include who you want in the notes section and they'll try to accommodate you, but typically you find yourself in the (hopefully capable) hands of the free stylist. Fortunately it looks like the majority of their stylists know what they're doing and I look forward to going back during a future trip to SF. read more

I booked with an add on service however Angelo at the front desk did not write it on my ticket or tell my stylist. Then when I said something at the end I was told I would not be charged. Of course I would not be charged but it was a breakdown in the process. Also the woman working the front desk started curling her own here while I was there. Very unprofessional. No napkins to dry hands in the bathroom and wine flutes which are meant to be disposable are resused. Stylist who did my hair had on a dirty yellow smock. Overall unprofessional. Unreliable, unreliable, unreliable. I made the mistake of booking an appointment here before my best friend's wedding. They were running an hour or more late when I arrived and they couldn't guarantee they'd see me at all. I asked why they didn't contact me to let me know, and Sophia told me that the store staff have no way of contacting customers and would have to use their own cell phones to do so. Drybar, it's the 21st century! If you can't contact customers to let them know that you're running an hour late, then you have a problem! It's especially crazy given that if I arrive late as a customer, they would charge me! I arrived early of course, but it was no help. It felt like an airport when I was there. More and more customers arrived for their appointments only to be told they'd need to wait an hour. I called their help number and they told me 24-48 hours would be needed to investigate what was happening. Lol! To add insult to injury, they then lied over the phone (Elma) and told me that the store had been ready to see me and I had chosen to leave. Um what?! For the record, a review left right here on Yelp 2 hours ago says they're running 45 minutes late! The least drybar could do is apologize about letting me down instead of denial and lying about what happened. The good news is I've learned my lesson. My best friend is getting married and I won't have my hair done, but there'll be other special occasions and now I know not to trust DryBar. Why put your hair in the hands of this company? I came as a Thursday morning treat to myself as being on the road for several days and am so happy I did. Noel (I hope I'm spelling his name correctly) did my blowout and was the perfect amount of friendly and quiet. Especially for a morning blowout, it can be easy for there to be too much talking before I've had my coffee but Noel was able to read me perfectly. He even had great product recommendations that I can't wait to try I can't recommend him enough -- he normally works in the afternoon. read more

This location has gone continually downhill and after my last experience I will never be back. The stylist was brand new and not properly trained did a terrible job, using way too much product and leaving my ends frizzy. I couldn't believe how bad it looked. The manager had to step in and show him how to fix it, in the process making a snarky comment about my hair needing a trim and that's why the ends were frizzy. Completely untrue as my ends are not frizzy when properly managed by a trained stylist. Super convenient location and friendly service..but even though they say "walk-ins welcome", I would definitely recommend an appointment. I came here before New Years for a blowout, and I loved the results. They gave me a pretty good loose/wavy curl that lasted the DAY and night. I loved the products..and though the smell didn't really do it for me, I received a lot of compliments and the curls in my hair ACTUALLY held even after a long night of dancing. The thing about stubbornly straight Asian hair is that it is really difficult to find a nice medium where you don't give it a curl so tightly wound that you end up with a little Annie fro..AND not too loose so that it doesn't straighten itself out in a matter of minutes..OR you don't put so much product in it that it sizzles when you curl it. :( You know what I'm talking about.. Drybar did it right. Between Drybar and Blo (on Union), Blo was better because they got rid of my crazy baby-hair-flyaways...but Drybar is just too conveniently located. From the moment you book online (they encourage this!) to the time you walk in and are greeted, you are enveloped by brand "Dry Bar". Having travelled to the US for work, I had booked my appointment here in advance and arrived after some wonderfully rainy weather in California. There's something to be said for a business that focuses on their niche and you won't find any cuts, colours or the like here. I admire they focus on just blow drys - or blow outs as you call them here. Your basic blow dry (select from the look book if you don't know what style you want) is $40 and for an extra $10 you can add on a "floater" (read: 10 min head massage at the basin). The hair salon head massage is one of my greatest loves but on this occasion it was a nice to have and in future I'd probably go without this extra. The blow dry itself and the products used were brilliant and great value. I was in and out within an hour and felt like I was in an blissful sanctuary amongst the hustle of Kearney Street. Should I be blessed to find myself in San Francisco again you can rest assured I'll be jumping online to book another appointment with Dry Bar (and if I lived here, I might just purchase one of their memberships). read more

I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting much when I arrived. Fast forward to the end of my appt and I'm asking my hairstylist if there is a way I can get my hair permed to permanently look the way she styled it. IT LOOKED LIKE PRINCESS HAIR!!!! I seriously did not even recognize myself in the mirror because I have always had stick straight hard to curl Asian hair. I walked in way too early and checked in with the receptionist. She made kind of a strange comment about me not being a regular customer because I had signed up to be a model for someone in training (aka free blowout!) She never offered me any beverage and I thought maybe it was because I was just a model but both my stylist Ashley and the head stylist offered me a beverage so wtf receptionist?! Rude. Ashley was AMAZING though. She started out by washing my hair in the comfiest sink ever. I'm usually craning my neck and straining it to no end when I get my hair washed but they have these awesome neck rests connected to the sink! The hair wash lasted around two minutes and I'm not sure if this is typical because I am definitely used to having extremely long hair washes. No worries though! I told her I saw a woman get a wavy at the ends style and asked for the same. I think it was called the Mai-Tai. I wasn't able to see my reflection in the mirror because the chair was so low but I had fun watching Pretty Woman on tv and drinking the complimentary coffee. After an hour it was time for the big reveal and I was shocked! My hair never ever looks like this!! (see photo) She told me it would probably fall by the end of the night because I opted out of hairspray and because my hair was so hard to curl. She used a round brush, curling iron, and straightening iron to achieve the look (aka something I could never accomplish on my own!) They make it so easy, even though the online system is a bit impractical (they ask you to book a specific time at a location without taking in the fact that the guessing game for available time slots is impractical). I needed a place to go get my hair done for my graduation pictures from UC Berkeley. This was my very first Drybar experience, and I was very hesitant because of the negative reviews but as this was the closest one to my house, I decided to give it a shot. Maya (my stylist) was phenomenal! Even though I came in a little late, Maya and the receptionist warmly welcomed me in and were sympathetic towards me and didn't charge a late fee. The wait wasn't that long, as there was good music playing and nice hair products to look at which kept me occupied. As a womxn of colour (Mexican and Palestinian), I have extremely curly, coarse hair that is extremely difficult to manage. As my hair reaches my waist, I've had more than one stylist in the past complain about my ethnic hair. As a result, I am sometimes very hesitant to walk into hair salons in fear of being targeted. Fortunately, Maya acted in a very professional manner and didn't once complain or say anything negative about my hair, which made me feel as though I was in a safe space. She handled my hair exceptionally well, detangled it with ease and blow dried it proficiently. She even made an effort to chat with me and get to know me better, which I really appreciated! There was a really nice movie playing (She's the Man), which made me very happy as it serves as a positive role model for girls and promotes many of the feminist beliefs I have (*snaps fingers). She used a lovely curling wand to give me the pretty curls as seen in the images attached below. When I was done, I was very pleased with the results: my hair hasn't felt this soft or smelled this good in a long time! Even though my hair doesn't handle curl well, it lasted when it came for grad pics! It's day two now, and my curls have softened to very slight waves, which I was a little disappointed in but I'm sure it could have lasted longer if a little more hairspray was used. My only other feedback would be to have a direct phone number (as I think it would better customer communication and service) and also serve alcohol during the weekday (I was pretty bummed out when I was informed that this location only serves drinks on weekends, I really would have liked to have a mimosa or even some bubbly ). Well I never thought I would be writing a yelp review but here I am. I first came to DryBar Union Square on 9/2 to get a blowdry prior to my trip. I have a busy schedule so I was able to squeeze in an hour of my day to get a blowdry. My appointment was at 1:30, I got there right on time and the receptionist told me they were running a few mins late. I told them it was fine because I've also have worked in a busy hair salon and these things happen. What I didn't know is that I would be waiting for almost 35 mins. Mind you I was on limited time, at that point I did not feel relaxed and just wanted to leave. I asked the receptionist if we could change my appointment into a dry style at that point and they did. I was happy with my service. They did tell me to book again and that they do apologize for the inconvenience. I booked again today and I was running 5 mins behind as I'm almost there, they called me and told me that they would need to push back my appointment to another time. I was at a disbelief for words at this point. Y'all had made me wait for my last appointment and now you can't accept that I was running 5 mins late? I am not one to argue or complain but I'm pretty upset about this and won't ever be coming back here. So disappointed in this Drybar! I've had such a great experience in Chicago and San Diego. I would not recommend this location to anyone!!!! My appointment was at 7:30AM on Tuesday. The front desk associate was extremely rude and looked as if I was bothering her by checking-in. I asked for a glass of water and never received it. My hair dresser over blow dried my hair. The whole time, she was burning my head with the blow dryer. You should not go over a section of hair 50 times! This can really damage the hair. The stylist used 5 rollers that amount to a weird style. As soon as I walked out, I knew I was going back to my hotel to fix my hair. I frequently blow dry my own hair and only came here to cut down on time. I was taken 7 minutes late and the whole blow dry took 45 minutes. I could have done this quicker myself. read more

This is my usual location when I am in SF, it's close to everything. Because I visit Drybar back home every single week , sometimes more than once. I have a pretty good idea of how things should go. My stylist was nice but super chatty. Sometimes to the point where it was too much. I was kinda tired that day so I really didn't want to engage in conversation. I asked for the cosmo tai. My usual. Came here three times already! Got a different stylists each time, but they were all talented and well-trained. True dat! First visit: The idea of a blow dry bar was new to me. And I've always wanted to get the Victoria Secret's model curls. I saw some pictures on yelp and decided to go to this drybar, since it's conveniently located near Bart. I had low expectations because the last time I had my hair curled professionally, it turned disastrous. But not at drybar! I stepped out feeling like a heiress with my Cosmo do. Second visit: Sadly, I can't do my own hair. I've always wanted a nice fishtail braid and saw that drybar offers this service. It's only $10 more. Got another amazing blowout to get the volume and "poof" I needed to make my fishtail braid sustain for 2-3 days. Yup, I slept with it too. Love it. Note: Not all stylists know how to do braids. So make sure you make it clear whether you're booking via the app (which is awesome, btw) or on the phone. Tell them your special requests. Third visit: Yup, I've become a drybar addict. I have even told my friends. Wanted to treat myself to another fabulous blowout before I chop off 10 inches to donate to Children with Hair Loss. This time, I asked for a Southern Comfort volume and Cosmopolitan bouncy curls. I looked super hot! lol Thank you for making my last day of having long hair amazing and unforgettable. When I think of this place, the phrase a "sweatshop for Blow Outs" comes to mind. None of the staff are very friendly, any my stylist this time just wanted me to pick out of a book the style I wanted instead of talking it through. My hair fell fairly flat in about 2 hrs after styling. A $40 blowout seems like a good deal, but it's no comparison to a stylist who takes their time and gives you products for longevity. read more

I was a little nervous about coming here, mostly because I've never been to a salon that's strictly hair styling, but my experience was great! My friend and I had the first appointment of the day at 7am. The front desk gentleman was a little quiet at first, but hey, it's a Monday morning. He quickly offered us a beverage, and brought us our tea when we got seated at our station (seating was really prompt too!). I had Jaslene (sorry if I misspelled your name!) and she was AWESOME. I told her my hair is pretty oily and she knew exactly what orifices to use to avoid that oil slick result. I went to Union Square location in San Francisco on Sunday June 10, with my two Daughters I told my Stylist I'm going to Wedding and I'm not locally from here, I told him my hair gets flat, he listened but result? It was flat after 1 hour I called their main office and they told me go back they would redo your hair. I went back and surprised by front desk people by their attitude, after explaining the same stylist curled my hair by not even holding curling Iron for 15 Second, and little hair spray and send me back. I end up having flat hair they destroyed my feelings. Nice place for a blow dry right by Union Square. We went as a group and all were happy with their stylists. I think the only concern we had was that some were taken before others and some people that came in after were taken first because of how they give out the tickets to stylists so 2 of us were a little late for lunch. What's nice about the professional blow out is that it last for several days. My stylist took time to ask what I wanted and made sure it was how I liked it. It includes the wash as well. read more

First, we were told they do not accept it then after they made my daughter pay, they told us to come back because they do accept it. TI & Trish both apologized for mistakenly declining the DryBar gift card we purchased on your website. Your service recovery I thought was good enough to give you guys another chance. You literally invited us to come back to use the gift card & to pick up our refund. Today, your stylist was 20 minutes late with a sour puss attitude. Then you guys charged my daughter again today & gave her same excuse the branch doesn't accept gift cards! TI! You said to come back?!?! Wow! It is now a bad experience to try to pamper yourself here for an hour. The last few times I have waited at least 30 minutes passed my appointment time, one of the other guests in the lobby, said that she had a make-up appointment right after this one, and was going to miss the make-up appointment and pay for it and I assumed she was going to a wedding or was in a wedding that day. So they are unreliable with their timing. I've always thought the chairs were uncomfortable and the space not plush. But this particular time the young woman who was assigned to me after my 30 minute wait had passed, seemed displeased that she would be starting the process and maybe assumed she wasn't going to tipped or she was overworked and exhausted. She shouted at me two or maybe three times "sit up straight with your butt against the back of the chair" and then again "your butt against the back of the chair" and then a third time "sit up straight with your butt against the back of the chair". I felt as though I was back at Catholic school with the scary nuns. This became so stressful that I was actually a little scared. I thought to myself, I must behave and not ask for anything extra or any corrections to my hairdo. Again, the experience that I usually consider a pleasure, a splurge, and a little pampering is not what I'm looking for and will not go back. It's not cheap and with tip and tax can be over $100 for a blow dry . I expect more. I checked online to see what the employees are saying about working at any Drybar, and they are over all displeased, overworked, tired, and don't make enough money. The quality of the blow dry specialists is good and they work hard and for the most part are very friendly and I usually like my hair style. I know that it is super hard to get employees right now and I sympathize with the owner and the overworked employees but they should close and re-think their business plan to adapt better to todays economic climate. I am a regular at this Drybar location. Coming here for the past few months has done wonders for my natural 4C hair. I attribute it to the products but also to Tamia, an amazing stylist! Tamia is very knowledgeable about the products, and gives great recommendations on what products to use that work well with textured black hair. My hair has been getting healthier and longer since I've been going here. I wear my hair straight, so that means I have to come here 2-3 times a month and I have not experienced heat damage. read more

My hair was awesome! My hair felt bouncy without too much volume. And the lady at the counter said I look very Victoria's Secret model like. I felt great! My experience with Drybar was fantastic! I'm new to San Franciso (and the west coast) and I was a little worried about finding a new salon. I'm African American and have natural hair, so I wasn't sure if the team at drybar could handle my 4A strands. I expressed my concern on social media and was contacted by a Drybar rep who reassured me that I was in good hands. She set me up with a senior stylist, Tamia, and let me know that everything would be alright. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who checked me in. I asked for a glass of wine and I didn't have to wait long until I was called by Tamia to start my appointment. My wash was comfortable, my blow dry was painless, and Tamia styles my hair with ease. I'm used some pretty harsh, hot blowouts that leave my curls and scalp worse for the wear. My experience at Drybar was nothing like that, and I'm so grateful. Everything about the Union Square location is great. Not only did I enjoy getting my blowout, I also liked the music that was playing and the movie on the screen. This place is perpetually running late. I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 1PM, and I waited almost 30 minutes past my appointment time (yes, I booked an appointment beforehand). Given that they take walk-ins, and given that they run about 30 minutes late for appointments, it sort of defeats the purpose of booking an appointment. The lady at the front desk is quite rude and unpleasant. When I inquired that I had an appointment and we are now 15 minutes late, she said, "so is everyone else" (like "you're not special, everyone else has an appointment"). She was completely unapologetic and not understanding. This place ($45 per blowout) is cheaper than some of the other comparable places (which charges about $65-70 per blowout). They also suggest that you tip over 20% to make up for their lower prices. The actual blowout was fine, for the price, that is. It looks very good when I stepped out, but it sort of faded by the next day and looked a bit weird. The blowout from my traditional hair salon definitely looked better and lasted longer. I had originally wanted to get the monthly membership, but given the results, I'd probably pass.
