Meats were the highlight - well-marbled short rib, thin-sliced pork belly, cubed galbi tips, and bone-in galbi, all cooked up juicy on the tabletop grill. Banchan was solid too (kimchi, japchae, pickled radish, lettuce, all the fixings). Sides stole the show too - tater tots were crispy, and the sizzling cheese corn came out bubbling hot on its own mini grill. Also ordered a big bowl of kimchi jjigae and plenty of steamed eggs on the side - both so comforting and hit the spot between grilling rounds. Loved the open, lively vibe - great spot for a group grill sesh without feeling cramped. Service wasn't bad either! There was available street parking nearby, but limited so keep that in mind. Overall, we had a good experience at DTLA AYCE KBBQ. The food was fresh, flavorful, and the quality of the meat was great. The atmosphere was lively, and the staff was friendly. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that our order was messed up twice, which slowed things down and was a little frustrating. Very surprised with how much I liked this place. It's where the treehouse bar is in Chinatown. They have great sides like spicy ramen, kimchi fried rice, and corn cheese. The dressing was so good (to us) we started putting it on the cooked meat LoL They have a taco plate where you get tortillas, cilantro and onions, perfect for the friend who loves their tacos, it was a welcomed addition. Service was quick, yet friendly and we didn't feel pressured to order more items right away. I think due to us coming in later in the evening, we were able to enjoy a more relaxing experience. I wish my reviews were as high as some of the other elites here. Plus I saw this place advertised on the news. So I bought into the hype and came to support. DTLAAYCEKBBQ was neither high nor low. Just about in the middle. We were seated right away. Service was good and friendly. Vibe was cool. Ambiance and the layout were nice. Plenty of seating. The open air actually makes it nice for the smoke to pass through. They didn't need an exhaust systems, which is nice. Both price points are reasonable. And folks, the automatics tip (12% for parties 1-4, and 18% for larger parties) is not uncommon. 12% to me is low if the service is good. I even felt obligated to add a little more because of the good service. So why just mid? Quality of the food. Honestly. The banchan wasn't great. Fish cake was chewy, Japchae was tough. Rice paper and even the steamed rice were a bit hard. The meats also were chewy, all the meats we ordered. (yes I know I how to cook a decent Kbbq). Not bad but not great. Mid quality. And that would keep me from coming back. With so many options out there, I couldn't find something that would stand out here. I wouldn't discourage coming here. But I also wouldn't recommend it unless you really want Kbbq and you happen to be in Chinatown. I'll keep this place bookmarked. And see how it goes. Good food, great service. What more can you ask for? We made reservations online via Yelp and a day before our reservations (a little under 24 hours), I received a text message to confirm them. Our other party arrived minutes before we did as we were stuck in traffic and the staff immediately said the table was ready. My family opted to wait for us and we arrived shortly after noon. Once we all together, we were immediately seated and was pleasantly greeted by our lovely server. She was amazing and super attentive! She provided recommendations and we placed our orders immediately. Both tables chose the $39.99 all you can eat option. Tables were both set up with starters that included a house salad, macaroni salad and kimchi. Table settings included plates, plastic cups for water, utensils, napkins and sauces. We all started with the Boneless LA Galbi, LA Galbi and PRIME Boneless Short Rib. Meat was tender and delicious and the dipping sauces were great. We also ordered sides of the following (with the first being the best in our opinion): -Cup Ramen Fried Rice -Korean Fried Chicken Bites -Corn Cheese -Loaded Tots (Cheetos) -Gyoza (Beef & Vegetable) -Steamed Egg Everything was piping hot and made to order for the sides. The meat was okay, nothing bad but nothing that separates this from other all you can eat KBBQ spots ($40 per person). The service was good and able to keep up with all of our orders (especially for a larger party)! Keep in mind that they automatically add an extra service fee at the end for parties of 5 or more. This place is slowly becoming one of our favorites. My favorite server is the latina lady. We had her a few times and her service was absolutely superb! She was so fantastic and attentive! She made our experience and ambiance so graceful and lovely. The food here is almost the same as most KBBQ that's at the same tier (we always get the higher tier for more options) it is delicious for what you get. We loved the ramen fried rice. So if I were to leave it up to my partner to pick, this will always be the place due to the ramen fried rice for him hahaha. Kimchi stew tastes so good as well and my always to go order has to be the steamed eggs. I'm only giving it 4 stars because we encountered a rude server (Asian lady) one time, she made everything sour. Of course when you go to KBBQ (where you have to cook your own food) you're not expecting a superb service but at least don't be a *beep* to customers. She was not friendly and/or paying attention to anything we were ordering. We did not get our orders and had to re-order it with another server. Overall 4/5 stars! Drinks are good. Food is delicious. It has been almost two months since I have contacted Mike (the owner) about a partial refund for a false overcharge!! He refuses to speak on the phone with me, and he is no longer responding to my emails. The waitress charged us an extra person, which I wouldn't mind, everyone makes mistakes and we did not catch it until we left which is also our mistake, but they are claiming that the receipt we had is wrong and that we were charged correctly. This is when Mike told me that he would need to check with his waitress to see if it was true, and then he never responded to me. Additionally, the service that we received that day was poor. We were the only people there and were waiting long periods of time for the food to come out. It also took forever for us to receive our bill and change, which is why we overlooked the charge at first as we just wanted to leave. It also felt like the waitress was being a bit rude with her comments but I didn't care to make a big deal of it until we were overcharged and not refunded!! This was our first time here and we were pretty impressed. At first we were skeptical of the location since there was no other open business around but once we walked in- the atmosphere and vibe was great. It was slightly outdoorsy so you don't feel suffocated with all the smoke. They had a ton of options for meats and sides. Our family loves sides- such as corn cheese and clear noodles so this was such a bonus. The meat was absolutely delicious and filling BUT the only downside is that they bring out small portions at a time. This place came across my socials at one point and since I was in LA at the time and happened to pass by, decided to try it out when they opened (which is 5pm). DTLA AYCE KBBQ is on the corner of N Spring St and Ord St, but is connected to the Treehouse. The entrance is on the N Spring St side and there are signs advertising for their $26.99 AYCE. There is no designated parking for the place so if you're lucky enough to find parking on the street, take it. Else, there is a paid lot a little more up N Spring Steet, $6 for what seemed like 3 hrs, or $15 all day, so pretty affordable. The space has an interesting layout. You walk through the gate on Spring Street and it's a walkway lined with table on the right hand side plus more seating near the rear in sort of an L-shaped path. It's a semi covered space with plenty of air flow. There's a nice painted wall with the restaurant's name painted on the brick. My bf and I went for dinner and opted for the $26.99 menu. There were so many options and some new marinated ones of classics I had never tried. They start you out with the usual salads plus salt, brisket sauce, and a spicy dipping sauce. The staff is so on point and attentive to every table, this is amazing customer service. Our meats came with in minutes after placing an order with the servers. My favorites were the soy garlic marinated pork belly, beef belly and soy garlic marinated brisket. The meat quality was fantastic. It had been a long time since coming to an AYCE KBBQ restaurant and first timers for some of the group. The food here was delicious and sides were tasty. It was $40 per person so that's not bad. The service was mostly fine with attentive staff - all except our server who would roll her eyes each time we ordered with her. She also failed to provide us a heads up on when our last order could be placed as they give you 90 mins to dine. I'm unsure if this is 90 mins since the moment you sit or order etc however it was apparent we were a bother. We initially made a reservation and notice the wait time on Google appeared to be their busiest hour of the day however we showed up an hour early and were seated immediately for a party of 5 which is impressive. Keep on mind this was a Sunday evening. They had plenty of tables available and the restaurant began to get fuller a half hour later but not busy. This is also mainly an outdoor dining experience in the sense that it's partly out in the open with some parts of the restaurant are covered under a roof and there were some heating lamps. It was still chilly where we sat. Parking: there is metered street parking and a parking lot with plenty of spaces. It was not clear if the lot was restaurant parking as the entrance to the restaurant is up the small hill and around the block but we're back to back on the same side of the street. Overall there wasn't anything in particular that stood out for me to want to return here. We were seated in the back of the restaurant where the doors to the back of the house are wide open so you have a nice view of all their storage. I've been here about five times and was excited to celebrate my mom's birthday at this spot. It took us 55 mins to get here. We were a party of 13 and were seated right away, which was great for a Friday night. However, the quality of the meat was horrible on 10/10/25. The first round of meat was okay for all three tables, but as we continued ordering, it got worse. The meat became excessively fatty. Trust me, I love a good marbling and fat around my steaks, but this was pure fat. Our grill kept turning off because of the pool of grease underneath. The waiter came by a few times thinking it was the propane, but it was literally a bowl of fat collecting under the grill. Then it got worse. Our final order came out as a plate of white fat. I wish I had taken a picture. My mom said, "We're not going to eat that," and the server refused to take it back, saying, "Well, I'm not gonna bring it back." After some back and forth, she eventually took it but was clearly annoyed with us afterward. It was disappointing to have recommended this place for my mom's birthday only for it to fall so short. To top it off, Evelyn brought out our cake in the Porto's bag. I looked at her, puzzled, and she just looked back and said, "What? Isn't this your cake?" We came here due to an Instagram ad. It was a chill Tuesday night and we found paid meter parking across the street. We were excited and got seated at the best seats in the house -- in front of the TV displaying a Dodgers game! Go Ohtani! As we watched the game, very loud kpop music was also being played, with the songs more on the upbeat energetic side. The space is similar to a high-ceiling, outdoor patio area but with covered ceilings, which is actually nice. Smoke from typical Kbbq spots make a place feel so stuffy. Not here!! If you feel cold, this spot also has additional outdoor heater lamps as well that could be turned on per request. We chose the cheaper option of the menus as their grand opening deal ~ $26.99 per person ~ was occurring for a limited time. They served to us a starter small plate of nachos and the sides and meat were given in a quick amount of time. At first, I was disappointed because it felt like the grill was cooking beef brisket (which is usually quick to cook!) so slowly! After about 20 mins of dealing with the slow cooking, our server actuallg noticed that our gas was low and why the grill was slow. He changed it with a new gas can and the speed of cooking became way more efficient. I was so glad!! And so thankful he noticed it!! I also want to give props because this is the only KBBQ I've seen where staff literally scrub the sides of the grill to clean it once a table leaves. The meats were good quality, especially the beef brisket as it was tender and juicy. The pineapple slice was THICK and delicious, a great yummy addition. Fun fact, after you finish, you get to pick one ice cream popsicle(?) per person if you dine-in! My bf got the strawberry and I got the wintermelon and we both loved it! DUDE... WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE? This used to be my spot. One of my go-to K-BBQ places in LA. I've lived here for 15 years and came here regularly. But whatever happened over the past few months completely ruined it. I'll never be back. Let me be clear this place used to be great. The meats were solid, the appetizers were always fire, and they did things a little differently than other K-BBQ spots. Even the free ice cream at the end was a win (Spoiler alert - its gone) , especially for my kids. That's why I kept coming back. But this visit? Absolute Nightmare. Strike 1 (bad start) We get seated on a slow night and they put us way in the back corner of the restaurant, right next to the kitchen or bathroom opening which looked gross. No reason for it, plenty of open tables everywhere else. It honestly felt like we were shoved back there because we had a baby with us. We politely asked if we could move. The response? Super rude. Basically a "take it or leave it" attitude. I get it holidays, long shifts, bad day but that doesn't excuse treating customers like that. The whole table felt uncomfortable. Five of us. No one wanted to eat while staring at a dirty open area. It killed the vibe immediately. Strike 2 (energy completely shifted) Our server an older Asian woman was ice cold and bad bad vibes. Huge attitude. She rushed us the second we sat down, asking what we wanted before we even had menus. I told her I didn't even have one. She storms off and comes back with one menu. One! For a party of five. Then she stands there hovering, rushing me to order. At that point my wife snapped and told her to stop rushing us and bring menus for the rest of the adults so everyone could decide. Basic stuff. The attitude and pressure really set off a bad bad start. Strike 3 (worst service I've had in years) After that, it was clear she was mad and she took it out on us the rest of the night. She barely came by. Took forever anytime we asked for anything. We didn't even get water until halfway through the meal. She brought each of us one tiny napkin at an all-you-can-eat K-BBQ spot. It honestly felt intentional. If my mother-in-law wasn't with us, I would've walked out. Easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in the last 10 years. The final straw They drop the bill automatic gratuity included. Now look, this is LA. Auto-gratuity isn't shocking. But after that level of service? It suddenly made sense why she didn't care at all. She was getting paid no matter what. I just looked at my wife like... what a joke. The icing on the cake As we're leaving, we head toward the door to grab the free ice cream pops gone. Removed. That was one of my favorite things about this place. Something no other spot did. Clearly cut to squeeze more profit. Overall Wow. Just wow. This place used to get my business 3-4 times a year. **UPDATED REVIEW ** 1/26 Its concerning seeing how many reviews are mentioning the automatic 12% gratuity & the owner never addresses it in his responses to these reviews, always dodging the topic, because there's no explanation of why they're doing this, & its not ok to add service fees especially displaying 4% on the menu and then told its 12% at the end of the meal. They are scamming and stealing peoples money. I would like to come here more but it seems a bit shady when it comes to paying the bill & the 12% added service fee which is by law not allowed automatic gratuity as of last year. They charge 12% added gratuity but on the bottom of their menu it says it's 4%. When asked on it, they just repeat themselves that it's 12%. They also state it's automatically added for groups of 2 or more , and it was only my husband and I. Had a great dinner date at DTLA last night. I was surprised to see the concept of being sort of in a covered patio / alleyway lol. But it didn't take away from the experience at all. It was actually pretty nice and cozy. They do have heaters that you can ask for if they haven't brought them out yet. I wonder if they have plans on opening up a bigger indoor dining area? The service was great, really attentive and we actually never had to wait too long to order more or ask for a grill change. They kept up a steady pace. Meat quality for the Kalbi and boneless short rib was amazing. Tender, juicy cuts, marinades were perfectly balanced. My only gripe is the 1 per limit on the kalbi. 1 serving per 2 people was literally just one piece of kalbi . Kinda hard to evenly share 1 piece lol. Beef belly is always one of our faves. I was looking for a new K-BBQ spot for Thursday dinner with my son and came across DTLA K-BBQ on Yelp. It's in the least expected part of town, but the photos looked great, so we decided to give it a shot. We ordered the brisket -- great! Beef belly -- awesome! Prime boneless rib -- fantastic! They also had some unique menu items that caught our eyes, like the Loaded Tot Cheetos and Takis. Of course, we had to try both. They seemed poisonous but tasted so good. Overall, we liked the experience. The only downside was that we were never offered a grill change until the very end, by which point the grill had turned almost charcoal black. Would I come back? Hmm... hard to say. The lack of an exhaust system didn't bother me since the space felt almost like a patio, but there was something I'd rather not mention here that left me not feeling so great. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10. Honestly, if I didn't know so much about restaurant equipment and operations, I probably would've enjoyed it more. read more
