Went here on break for some chicken tenders and fries today. It was all fine up until a cockroach decides to fall from the ceiling straight onto me and my coworkers plate of food. Disgusted, truly doesn't give the experience we just had justice. The health department clearly needs to run by this establishment to make sure they aren't spreading unneeded viruses around the city. Very happy with this place, may be my new neighborhood favourite. I live nearby and this definitly had homey, friendly, quality feel to it. The service was great and the food was also really good. Plenty of TV's if you want to go out for a meal by yourself and watch some golf like I did! wasn't too loud either, and the COVID safety precations were enforced so felt safe. An establishment that is cheery and bawdy but at the end of the day: all in good taste. Does Chicago's Dublin Bar & Grill fit this description? Let's find out... Dublin Bar is located in the Gold Coast area of Chicago at the intersection known to locals as 'Viagra Corner' (yes, that implies pretty much what you think). The community has recently grown to become more trendier by the minute with a somewhat hipster-feel and the growth of both retail and restaurant establishments. Dublin Bar isn't hard to miss with a low-key but noticeable facade. Once inside, patrons are welcomed by staff to a noisy environment comparable to a sports bar meets Irish pub. Other Yelpers complain about the noise volume inhibiting conversation quality (which I agree with); but what do you expect?! Dublin Bar splits their space with a large bar directly in front of entrance with plenty of seating to each side providing a more dining feel. We were immediately seated but that's somewhat where the customer service ended. Let's elaborate: although NOT horrible, staff here seems to be quite unhappy with life never smiling or making us feel welcome nor do they seem to have a value for time. They don't take orders or return quickly and just generally need some refreshment courses on how to treat Dublin Bar-goers. Again, I've experienced worse but it's still not pleasant. Aside from the obvious alcohol imbibing, Dublin Bar features some bar/grill goodies such as appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, soups, entrees, and even desserts. We were meeting for lunch and thus decided on a House Salad (mixed greens, roasted peppers, pepperoncini, asiago cheese and vinaigrette dressing -- $6.00) and Sliced Turkey Breast Sandwich (french bread with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and Italian dressing with added bacon and sweet potato tater tots -- $8.50). Now folks, I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised once the food arrived. The dishes are large and in charge so Dublin Bar certainly doesn't practice portion control. Plus, the presentation is more of a charming cafe than bar with vibrant colors and fresh ingredients. The House Salad was quite delicious and standout with a perfect dressing to salad ratio and the salad itself was crisp and delightful. I ate every last piece! The sandwich was equally delicious with bright flavors that vibrate the taste buds even though this is a 'standard' sammie. Plus, I hate tater tots but loved these babies! They are firm and not oily and basically are tater tots gone gourmet. The food here is clearly a winner and beyond just sopping up consumed alcohol. Customer Service when paying for our meal continued to be unfriendly but a manager was at the door and did thank us when we left. Honestly, not much more can be said about Dublin Bar. It is a middle-grade, average, loud bar with somewhat poor customer service but delicious food. Basically, it is a solid choice that meets the requirements of a rowdy drink or a lunch meal. This is my favorite place for corned beef and cabbage in the city - nice non fatty thick slices! I've really enjoyed their burgers and most excellent waffle fries. Their drinks are fairly priced for the city and the service is normally fast. Wow I'm not typically one to write a poor review, but I'm honestly shocked by the treatment I just received over the phone. I called asking to place a pickup order for food (I love their oysters rockefeller and was looking to pick up an order to accompany mine and my boyfriend's homecooked Valentine's Day dinner). The lady said I don't normally do pickup orders and then asked if I lived in the neighborhood, to which I said yes, and she said I okay I can do it what do you want? I ordered a half dozen oysters (she had an attitude about me asking if they can do a half dozen). She replied "Ready in 20" and then hung up. I am still at work and was hoping to have the oysters ready in about an hour since they are served warm.... So I called back and asked her if they could be ready in an hour, and she said no I already put them in. So I said okay can you can cancel them then because I don't want them cold. She said yep and hung up. I understand if they don't typically do pickup orders, but she should've either just said no or specified that it would have to be ready in 20. Instead of having a terrible attitude and hanging up before I could add that part of my request. I can't imagine they're extremely busy at 3:30 on a Wednesday, so I am just confused why this woman would speak so rudely to an avid customer, especially on Valentine's Day:( I hope her day gets better. read more

I was greated by a woman who seemed surprised to see me. Since, she was wearing a jacket, as if prepared to depart, I asked if she was the hostess. She said that, no, she was a server. And did I wish to sit. I told her I was awaiting the arrival of a friend. I was expecting there would be more people, as I arrived just before noon on a Sunday. There was no wait, which was great! Noise level: Not too bad considering they had a basketball game playing on at least two screens. I guess at my age my days of drinking Guiness and enjoying bar food are behind me. One of my all time favorite late-night food spots! I come here very often and always get the same thing, I honestly can't vouch for more than these items on the menu but If the rest of their menu is anywhere near as delicious then you'll be ok! I get the bruschetta (they kinda deconstruct it, it's really fresh and light and I love it. Then I get the oyster Rockefeller app which is my favorite version of this popular oyster dish. Don't get me wrong I've had better oysters but the recipe and execution is by far my favorite. (Btw, best oyster I had around here was at Bob Chinns in Wheeling) For dinner I order the Mediterranean chicken and its always a winner, with the rye bread they serve with it it's truly a dish I look forward to every single time. My girlfriend and I turned a corner when on a pub crawl this week and found ourselves staring straight at Dublin. Like moths to a flame, we quickly made our way into the dark and cozy bar. Todd, a master barkeep, greeted us quickly and served us immediately. My Smithwicks was crisp and cold, and her wine was from a newly opened bottle. The music was excellent, and there were good sports playing on the television. We didn't eat due to a dinner reservation we had later, but the menu was both diverse and traditional and the dishes we saw delivered all looked incredible. I went back in the next day to read the paper, and again the atmosphere and service were on the spot. The clientele seemed a mix of regulars and visitors, and their vibe was entertaining and enlightening. I will start with the fact we came in on the Saturday before Saint Patrick's day so it was crazy inside. We struggled to get a drink while we had a 45min quoted wait for a table but really prob waited closer to 30 min so that was nice. Service at the bar was rough and even though I made eye contact with 3 different bartenders none said hi, smiled or told me they would be with me in a minute. Also were pouring Guinness wrong but I don't drink that so didn't bother me. Eventually got our drinks and I paid cash which she gave my change to another person and I had to yell to get my money back. So no tip for the bartenders but my server was amazing and was very attentive and we never wanted for anything. So it is the bartenders which are costing this place the stars. The food was amazing and I don't think I will order corn beef anywhere else it was so tender and juicy and the cabbage and potatoes were perfectly cooked and buttered. We also had the bison burger which was delicious and saw the calamari on another table which looked good and will probably try next time. As long as you sit at a table I can guarantee you will have a great meal here. I may give the bartenders another chance as the manager, server and bussers were all fantastic. read more

A friend and I were out of luck finding restaurants in the area for dinner so we decided to come here since they had availability. We were very pleased with our food! We order the mushroom plate and oysters Rockefeller. Both surpassed our expectations. We weren't expecting the most extravagant dinning experience so the expectations were quite low. The service was not GREAT, but it was pretty busy so no complaints. I had very low expectations, so it passed the test. Overall, I'd definitely come here again for a casual night or to grab some drinks! This spot is even good for a semi-casual date with the dimly lit ambiance. It's a wonder how this dive bar restaurant still remains in the viagra triangle given it doesnt really seem to fit the clientele of the area. Although on occasion I seem to wind up going here for lunch when visiting family. So after perusing the menu I saw they have avocado toast which I love. Although soon after I ordered I was like I don't think this is the type of place to order said avocado toast. Stopped in late on a Wednesday night. As always, the full menu was available and the place was hopping. We sat outside on this warm spring night. Service was swift and professional. Cocktails started quickly and we were on our way. We ended up ordering two salads and the goat cheese appetizer. Everything was perfect. Yummy! The owner's son stopped by our table to chat it up for a bit. I found out the ladies who worked here years ago are still onboard. Good to know that although it was the son at our table instead of the Father (the torch was passed) some things never change. The menu choices range from a Lox Plate to Beef Tenderloin Tacos to Chicken Etoufée but don't expect Shepherds Pie. Obviously, hanging up a sign with the name "Dublin" infers something but this is hardly an Irish pub. Our late afternoon experience was mixed. The sole server was attentive but really rushed and they were out of onion rings. My chili was OK while the Quesedilla was jammed with cheese but arrived at room temperature. The food arrived quickly as did the beer. There's lots of TVs and the place was pretty clean though another guest commented the women's room was "icky" (her term, not mine). We changed our minds, wanted food, and had a fourth friend coming so we asked for a table or a booth. We stopped in for a laid-back, casual dinner. The menu is very diverse and pricing is fair. The menu is not your traditional Irish pub offerings. The specials for Saturday were lobster bisque to a bison burger and salmon. The regular menu is just as varying- appetizers, salads with seared scallops, Irish pub meals, to steak. The lobster bisque had a nice smooth texture but very tomato forward, I didn't pick up a lot of lobster or seafood flavor. The nachos were decent, it had house-made pico which was good. I have always liked Dublins in the past although it does get too crowded at night, but that's a personal preference, not on Dublins. Today I'm reviewing the food I had at lunch. I had a chicken quesadilla and the chicken was terrible! I probably bit into and spit out at least 20 pieces of grizzle. It was really, really gross. One piece would have been one thing, but over 20 bites is just horrible quality meat. So I won't be getting anything with meat in it from them again. I'm guessing they try to save money by buying cheap cuts based on what I ate. I give the food 2 stars, but added 2 more stars because they're dog friendly! Any restaurant that allows dogs is great in my book, and I wish more did! So I'll go for the outdoor patio and ability to bring my pup, but will not eat meat there again.
