Gotta tell you, you can't go wrong at Dublin Car Tek. Been going there years now and they always come through with fair, clear, no nonsense diagnoses and fixes. Most recently, they had to take my car to the dealership for computer programming. I previously got an estimate for the work at the same dealership but didn't include the same level of troubleshooting. Ryan and his team did way more analysis than the dealer even considered, and made sure I needed the recommended work. They dealt with the dealership. I paid the same amount as the dealership estimate and got way more detailed evaluation and diagnosis. This team is amazing! read more

What they have done is FRAUD; Plain and simple. On February 18th, 2011 I asked them to replace the Timing Belt and Idler/Tensioner for my Hyundai accent, which had 59,000 miles; 60,000 miles is the recommended max for the car. On November 19th, 2011, my wife was driving down the freeway and the car just stopped. I had it towed to a different shop, that I trust. They opened up the car and showed me the parts. The timing belt SNAPPED!!!!!! The idler/tensioner were corroded and worn. I showed the other shop the invoice from Car Tek, and they COULD NOT BELIEVE it. I approached Dublin Car Tek, and the owner screamed at me and stated "no, we don't do this." However, the manager, Ryan, called me the next day, saying that he spoke with someone, from the other shop, and he will refund my money, if we give him the parts. He claims the parts are "defective." I now have the parts in my possession. I called the other shop, and they told me that no one from Car Tek has ever contacted them !!!!! Lies upon lies. This is what they are good at.... read more

I have had work done here a few times. Spark plugs and wires, oil changes, and other fluids, and brakes. After the brake job, the car was pulling to the right and the shop took no responsibility for it other than rotating the tires. Also the customer service all depends on the mood of the manager/owner that day. Sometimes it's been pleasant, and sometimes you're an idiot for even asking a question like that, Mr. Customer. Update--and downgrade. Wanted to be sure my review was fair, so I reviewed my car maintenance records. Although I surely needed brake pads, CarTek replaced brake rotors after less than 30k miles. Previous ones were on the car at least twice as long, and had been replaced by OEM. A front axle boot was also replaced, reportedly requiring an alignment (first time that ever came up, despite the same repair on various other Hondas). None of these "needs" were communicated to me beforehand, but the $250 extra expense did get communicated onto my bill. read more

I would consider myself someone who is uneducated about cars, let's be honest. So, when I go to mechanics I feel dumb and not up to par with some of the car lingo. I have also dealt with some crummy, unfriendly and rude people in my days of owning cars. I hesitate to go into mechanic shops just because of these reasons. With that being said, I went to CAR TEK and had my truck inspected to make sure I was OK to go on a long road trip 2,500 miles across country. RYAN, who inspected my car was one the nicest people I had ever met as a mechanic. He was very nice, calm and collected about what I was going to need and honest about what it would cost. He didn't make me feel stupid about not knowing what I was looking at and confident in what I needed to be safe. All in all, I would recommend Car Tek and especially recommend anyone to see Ryan about any of there needs. The world needs more mechanics like Ryan! TRULY! I usually do not write reviews, but I wanted to write on this occasion to make the people aware.I have my worst experience with this shop. I went here for my car a/c repair and just I asked what will be the estimate and the person avoided to answer.Then asked what will be the replacement cost for compressor in case it has gone bad, he said it may cost around $600/ which very less. He also said he will initially charge for dignosis and service and let me know the estimate. Later he called me and said that he has to change both compressor and condenser and gave the estimate which is much more than other shops. But I had to go with him even though price was high because he was going to charge me for service even if I do not get done here.Later after sometime he called me and said that it will cost $200 more, he needs put OEM part.Now I think the price became more than dealer price.Also he had said that all the parts and labor will have 2 years warranty but when I requested him to write in the receipt he said he can give only 1 year warranty. The story did not end here, after using one month the compressor failed again and he agreed to check it on warranty this time.But later he said compressor became bad because mistakes of previous mechanic as he put a lot of oil in compressor, unless you flush all oil we will not give you any more warranty. The estimate for flushing was additional $800.So I declined the additional service. The people in this shop are very rude, they became very rude when asked them to explain the cause of failure and why it was not taken care in first place. read more

I am extremely impressed with the customer service and work I received from Car Tek. I took my Tahoe in for a water pump replacement. When I got it back, the engine looked brand new. I even received a call from them a couple weeks after I got it back asking if everything was running ok and if I had any concerns. I also got a 10% first time customer discount. I have used this place on two other occasions for my diesel truck with "ok" results. At the beginning of March I had to get my 2000 Nissan Maxima smogged. With a little bit of trust from my previous experience at Dublin Car Tek I went here. I found our that my wonderful state of CA had changed the smog program and now certain vehicles need to go to a "star certified" smog center and found that Dublin Car Tek is such a place. I was told that they did not take any coupons because my car needed to go to this special station and that they were one of only 3 in the entire tri-valley area. After some mental debate and not having excess time on my hands I told them to go ahead. $80.00 later I took my car home. Once home I opened the mailbox and found a valpak coupon book and my mind began to wonder. Alas, once I opened the book I found 4 coupons for "star certified" smog stations, all for $26.95 or less. I learned 2 valuable lessons. ALWAYS do my research and look for those coupons and NEVER to use Dublin Car Tek for any of my car services again. Car Tek is professional, work is done on time, they are informative and all the repairs they have done for me (water pump, gas gage, O2 sensor) have been done well and worked. However, even though their hourly rate is comprable ($120/hr), your final bill will cost more than other garages. I would ask/compare their estimates with other garages if you have the time. read more

This place blows.I took my car in there for an oil leak and they diagnosed it as one thing and then after the work was done, which cost $500 dollars, they said there were more leaks and "They'd be happy to look for more leaks" They will piecemeal your car together. Brought my 2007 Honda in for a oil change and they did a 25 point inspection and noticed the battery was low on water and informed me to be very careful and get it changed soon because sometimes the battery is too far gone and new water will not save it. They were right I waited too long and the battery died in 2 weeks. They have always been honest with me on all my cars and I never feel as if they are trying to upsell me on something I don't need. read more

I am a senior female on disability and a friend told me I should check out CarTek because I needed to have a smog check for my car. I explained to Ryan that I had limited income and his tart reply was "what all do you want for free" This friend had dealt with Tim. FEMALES BEWARE OF CAR TEK !!!!! After telling him that my engine light is on and I need a smog check my saga with CarTek and Ryan begins: 11/08/11 2 sensors are changed with a note at the bottom of the page "Could have further issues" This visit cost me $477.84 11/14/11 Smog check and it passed cost $58.00. I told him at this point that my car is surging at idle and stalling, it is intermittent but it had not done this before their repair. so back in we go. Apparently Ryan can't figure out what is wrong with a car unless the engine light is on. 12/09/11 another sensor is replaced to the tune of $199.95. Drive away and within hours the car is doing what it was doing nothing is fixed. Back I go on 01-11-12 now the car has stalled at a major intersection AGAIN and will not even turn over and has to be towed to their shop, and hooray the engine light is now on and Ryan can figure out what is wrong. I kid you not his words. $321.20 later I still have a vibration when I start the car and when I drive, it is still intermittent.v Total cost for CARTEK $1056.99. 3 Days later white smoke is billowing out from under my hood. At this point I have had it with Ryan and CarTek. So I take my car to Advantage Automotive and Larry shows me a part above the radiator that is cracked, says this is normal but all the bolts missing around the area were just plain NOT PUT BACK, hence some of the rattle. I paid to have the bolts replaced. We fix that and I take my car in for an Oil change. During this oil change and basic look he tells me that ALL THE BOLTS ON MY TIMING CHAIN COVER ARE GONE, NEVER PUT BACK!! Cost to replace them $15.00. Now Jim at Car Tek tells me that this is common for the bolts on the timing chain they break or work themselves out. I check his theory out with licensed mechanics and hot-rod builders and they all said that is really not likely. Larry also tells me that my the vibration could be an engine mount or from the following: recommend tire rotation, left inner axle boot is torn and leaking grease, water inlet housing leaking coolant, front brakes need replacing, sway bar links need replacing, he found all this WITHOUT AN ENGINE LIGHT, is the man magic? No he is an honest man who will not take advantage of his customers. Larry repaired my car and I will sing his praises for excellent work and honesty. He will tell you what should be repaired and how long you can wait safely. This may not be the case but I feel like CarTek sabotaged my car creating more work for themselves. They treated me like I was stupid because I was female and senior at that. Car Tek has lost me as a customer and I will continue to tell anyone who will listen my story so that they are not left in the situation I was left in. I found Dublin Car Tek in the phone book. I have been going to them for over a year for mostly maintenance on my 3-year-old domestic SUV. I have been really pleased with their service and the quality of their work. My appointments have included several regular oil changes, a 30,000 mile service, and new tires. All have been completed satisfactorily and pretty much within the amount of time they originally promised. Their prices seem competitive and occasionally I receive coupons in the mail which come in handy for things like more expensive maintenance appointments or oil changes. They also have a driver who will pick you up or take you home. I'm not sure how far that service extends. Being a woman, I sometimes wonder if some businesses such as auto repairs may treat me differently, assuming I am naive, etc but I have never had that impression at Dublin Car Tek. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I would recommend them to my friends or family. As they say, they are an alternative to a dealership and my experience has been that they offer better service than the dealership I was previously visiting. read more
