This place is a total rip off. I took my car in for a regular smog check. This guy called Asif came back, didn't give me an update, charged my card, and then told me my car's computer system hadn't performed a self-check or something of that sort and so he couldn't complete the test. What really upset me was his attitude, the fact that he didn't mention anything till he charged my card, and his rude attitude when he informed me he had charged me but not completed the test. I am filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repairs for this scam shop. Terrible experience! I'd never go back to this shop. Get a better attitude and stop ripping off your customers! Also, please wear a mask! You compromise the health and safety of your customers when you blatantly ignore Alameda county regulations around businesses following mask Mandates. First off, let me start with the good: The smog certification service was quick. I went there mid-day on a Tuesday and there was no line, so they were able to check my car really quickly and it took only about 10 mins for the whole thing. I really liked and appreciated that. The price was very reasonable to me too, it was $40 with a Yelp checkin for non-star smog certification service. It would be higher for star certification - I believe around $60 or $80. However, I felt like all of that good experience was ruined by the guy helping me cause he was not friendly at all. First I thought he was just having a bad day so I gave him the benefit of the doubt but there was a point where he asked me to sign a paper and I asked him what this paper was for, and he literally grabbed the paper out of my hand, flipped it upside down and slammed it on the counter in front of me, to show more info on the other side of the paper as his way to respond to my inquiry. I was really taken aback not only because it was very rude, but also because it was borderline scary. He seemed to be extremely bothered simply by me asking a question. My radiator hose went out to me and I called Hopyard Auto Repair to see if they could replace my hose the same day. All the other local places said they couldn't take me until the next day. When I arrived at the shop, Asif inspected my hose and ordered it and said if it arrives today, he would be able to replace it. I didn't want to leave my car overnight because I needed it to get to work. He was nice enough to complete the work after they closed even though he didn't have to. I took my truck in for a smog check and was told that it could not be completed due to a computer reset (my battery had died). I was informed to drive the car around for 300+ miles and they would retest for free as long as I returned within a month. I returned after 2 weeks and my car passed the smog check. After completing the work the same repair person told me it would be $30 for my re-check and this was standard policy for within a month (outside a month would be full charge). When I asked why I had been misled I was told it was okay and just to pay him In addition to sneaking in costs, I was also told a day earlier that 'the guy who does smog' wasn't around so I had to come back the next day. But no matter who is on the phone with them, would it be best to be a bit more patient and nice to their customers? Their customer service is cruddy. The guy who was on the phone with me was extremely rude. I was trying to ask about an oil change price for a Toyota Prius, but I could not hear what he was trying to say since his voice was faint over the phone. Took my old 2000 Pathfinder for a smog check. I did have my service engine light on, and Asif charged for the diagnostic, but then since repairs were required, he included the diagnostic cost into the repairs' effectively waiving them. Very easy going and good to work with, he had the car ready for the smog check over two business days since I was on a strict timeline. They are also STAR certified which is what I needed. Update: 8/6/2017 Well, I usually don't like to slam a place, but some things just cannot stand. I was pleased with the work done, so that part still stands, but I was informed during the oil change that I needed new air filters (cabin and engine) and that my rear brakes were 75% worn and in need of replacing. Duly noted, I declined the extra options and left. I always expect upsells anyway. I then bought the new filters and brake pads at Monument Auto Parts. If one has a good socket set, C-clamp, and floor jack, changing brake pads is a no-brainer. Imagine my surprise when I went to replace the old pads and found them 60% full. Again, they aren't the only people doing this sort of thing (recommending unnecessary work), since RyNick had done the same thing years ago, but still, it simply must stop. Certainly most won't ever know that the work was completely superfluous (hint: ask them to let you see the old pads afterwards). I probably should have suspected something since I had just taken my vehicle in for new tires and the tire place said nothing about replacing the brake pads. So there you have it. If you know exactly what you need, then perhaps this place is okay. Just don't agree to any extra work without knowing for sure that it's needed. Side note: the bolts around the air cleaner were essentially finger tight after they opened it up. That was a little annoying as well. Hopefully, if people speak up about this type of service, places will change their business practices. People rely on their honestly. I'm disappointed to see this kind of stuff still occurs today. After an attempted rip off at another well known place in Pleasanton (Whom I won't mention for potential litigious reasons.) I took my car to Asif, he is the new owner. Let me put this out there right away, he is an immigrant from Pakistan and has been in this country for 15+ years. He speaks English well and communicated very clearly to me what was wrong with my car after a severe misdiagnosis at the aforementioned shop. I left my car with him Thur eve and by the end of the day Fri it was completed. I came in for a leaking water pump and hoses. The other incompetent shop tried to tell me I had a blown head gasket which is an extremely labor intensive job. Asif was able to explain in depth as to why I did not have a blown head gasket and clearly identified the real problems that I could see with my own eyes. He called me Fri at noon and had discovered a crack in my radiator. He pinpointed the exact spot of the crack and there was clear evidence of coolant seepage. His labor rates are very reasonable as was his mark up on the replacement parts. I know because I went home and Google searched all the parts and comparable mechanic labor for my model of car.....something I should have done in the 1st place after dealing with these other jackasses. Additionally he waived the sales tax if I paid him cash, which was fine by me. On a personal note; Asif is a married family man with a young baby who is grateful to be in the USA. He comes across in a very genuine way. I was happy to give my business to him and will return for tires in a couple of months. He was able to offer a name brand tire with a warranty for the same price as Costco. I'll be seeing him for tires soon! read more

Came here for a smog. Upon walking up, there was only one guy in the shop who informed me that he wasn't the smog tech. He called the smog tech who said he was only 10-15 min away. I waited 30 minutes. During the smog, the first thing the smog tech asked me was if there were any aftermarket parts. I informed him about an after market catalytic converter as it was the only after market part on the vehicle. He then asked me if I was a Cop, or if my car was a police vehicle (bizarre, right?) This was the longest smog I have ever experienced. He attempted to tell me that my catalytic converter was illegal (i verified this was not the case). He then found another reason to fail me, evap hose wasn't hooked up to the air cleaner housing... whatever. I had informed him that I needed this vehicle smogged so I could sell it first thing the following morning, however he continued to drag this process out as long as possible. I told him that I was going to go home, resolve the issue by using parts from another jeep of mine. When I return the tech tells me that he is no longer able to do the smog because he can't get on the phone and verify the CARB numbers on my aftermarket parts. The CARB numbers were clearly visable on all the aftermarket parts as required per CA Law. Also, a simple web search will verify the validity of the parts as they're still sold in California as 50-state legal, etc. These guys had a very lazy demeanor, and I felt like they were just messing with me the whole time. Not to mention there was another vehicle in the bay that the smog dyno is in, so they had my vehicle backwards on the dyno. Luckily it wasn't a car I care more about, otherwise I would have been very upset that during the time they were testing it, it would tap the other vehicle in the bay. Shady, untrustworthy, dishonest. I will pay full price for a smog somewhere else, rather then give them the 30 bucks for a retest. read more

Why have a $40 coupon when you don't honor it? I called and got told they can take me in. I appreciate the quick in and out experience but I don't think they are realizing the business they lose. I usually do not write a bad review but I just can't take this. Put a disclaimer that star smogs are not $40. The guy tells me he cannot honor the coupon because it was not a regular smog. What in the world is a regular smog!!! And why would someone even get it. Should have seen the attitude when he proceeds to asks me,"so do you want it or not?". Dude, its not about the money but sticking to your word. Don't entice the customers by sneaky ads. While performing the test, points towards another older car and tells in berated manner thats a $120 smog. At this point, I tell him straight to his face that just get done with it and I have no interest in learning what is how much plus not coming back for any other service. Should have seen this person's face!! He couldn't take it and took me straight to the cashier to check out. Thankfully, would not talk after that.
