My first visit to car tek was several years ago- I was new to the area and didn't know where to take my car and not get ripped off. I asked around and a friend referred me to Ryan at Dublin Car Tek. I called to make an appointment and explained the issue I was having in the best detail I could- Ryan told me to come in that afternoon and he'd take a look. I was so surprised, I thought for sure I'd have to wait a week. I came in and he said "let's take it for a spin and see if we can get it to repeat the problem" WE DROVE UNTIL IT DID IT. Based on my experience with previous mechanics and dealerships I thought it went like this: you tell them the problem as best you can- they have no idea what you're talking about- you drop off the car, they keep it for a day or two (while you're out transportation) to call you and tell you they couldn't get it to act up and that will be $200.00 thank you. Nope. Not anymore. Ryan has a magic foot- he got it to do it, asked questions I wouldn't have thought of telling him, to understand the problem better and explained what the problem was. The tranny was old and was surely slipping and would eventually need to be replaced. He told me how much transmissions cost and my heart sank. I asked how long it would last in the condition it was in. He said it's unpredictable- It could be a week or it could be a year. I told him I definitely didn't have the money to replace the tranny right now so I would have to drive it into the ground. I took the car to Car Tek for service and upkeep and it lasted another year and a half, before I sold it with the tranny still working! Over the years I felt like the guys at Car Tek became my friends. I look forward to taking my car there. I know they care about the work they do and it shows. Allen can fix any problem, quickly. Cameron is super dedicated and focused. Angel is an incredibly hard worker. Pat is always moving and helping out. Ryan is super smart, HONEST, and can come up with a solution to anything you can put in front of him. And Tim really cares about what he does- you can see the heart and passion in that shop. I would recommend Car Tek to anyone, with any problem. A good, honest mechanic is not easy to come by now a days. Car Troubles don't scare me like they used to. I have "Automotive Security" now. When I arrived I was greeted with a smile, and a knowledgeable mechanic that took the time to explain the process. While I waited, every person that came in was greeted and treated like family. My daughters car had a burnt out bulb in the rear. I tried doing it myself but it was a blind install and huge pain in the butt. I finally gave up and brought it to cartek. They took me in right away and started working it. I stayed and watched. He was having the same struggle as me but got it done. When I went to pay, they said pay me what you think is fair. I let them know what I thought the problem was (I am not the greatest with cars but have basic knowledge) and he got back to me with a few items that could be causing me issues. From there it was smooth sailing. When I went out to my car this morning to start my day I went to turn the key and I had nothing. I called up Car Tek and was helped by Shane. He gave me the number for a local tow company that they use. The tow company showed up promptly and my car was taken to Car Tek. Shane advised me that there was no need to ride with the car and that they would do a diagnostic upon arrival. Not 30 mins after the car left I get a call from Shane and tells me that my starter needed to be replaced. He advised me that it would be ready by the afternoon. I couldn't believe that they had it done by 3. Excellent customer service and to boot they got me ready so quickly and honestly my car has never run as good as it has after they completed their work. We brought our cars here when we first moved to CA since we needed our cars smog tested among other things. The prices here are high compared to other local shops, but the service is what you pay for. Dealer quality work for less. They are very honest and don't BS you. We had our cars smog tested and 1 of them failed due to gas cap. The guy left fast to pick us up a brand new one and made one of our cars pass because of it. I was nervous about my other car since it was partially modified. I did some research prior to moving out here and found that some mechanics are really petty if you have anything modified on your car in hopes you will have your car repaired there/make you spend more. Thankfully they were reasonable about the gray area parts (the parts that don't need to be CARB exempt but is up to the mechanic's discretion) and didn't haggle me for CARB exemption numbers on other legal parts I had (they didn't have CARB stickers on them). The work was done in a reasonable amount of time. Like previously mentioned, the customer service was great. The guy was very friendly, straight forward and up front about stuff. If I was ASE certified, I would work here. This is the best auto shop to go to if you can afford the cost (i.e. oil change is $40 here, but you can find them for $20-30 ish). A lot of car shops will &*%# you on your bill saying all kinds of things are going to need to replaced (i.e. firestone) and give you the speech (i.e. in the worst case scenerio the belt will snap and the engine will need to be replaced. (Hell, in the worst case scenerio I wouldn't be alive to type this!)) The guys here will provide you with honest explanations of why parts need to be replaced or answer your questions honestly and even provide you with tips if you ask for them. read more

No way will I ever go here again! I took my car in to get smog tested. The "check engine" light was on when I took it in, (stupid me, didn't know that was an automatic fail),they tested it anyway and flunked it because the "check engine" light was on and charged me full price. OK, I'm stupid for not knowing about the light, but THEY know better and should have told me. I call that dishonest, and look for a little more when choosing an auto mechanic. If you choose them, I hope they're nicer to you. read more

Sam probably don't know much about his car cause he probably had all those problems. This place tells it like it is. I went there for a oil with $5 coupon (cheapest oil change within the area). They did tell me I needed a new air filter, transmission & steering wheel oil change which I already knew I had to change because it was due but they didn't pressure me to get it. They just told me to come back when I'm ready ($$ wise). Getting 4 stars because of time. It took 45 mins to change the oil where if I went across the parking lot to RyNck or Quality across the street it could've been done in 30 mins for more money! I like these guys! read more

I am sad to report that the charging system in my car is broken again, 9 months after having it fixed at Car Tek. Since I paid over $300 for the first repair at Car Tek, I called to ask if the work was under warranty, and they said they could probably do something for me if I could bring it in... unfortunately, my car cannot drive the 2 hrs required to get it back to Car Tek since the car is no longer charging the battery. I asked if they had any partners in the Sacramento area that I could work with to get it repaired and they said no. No other assistance was offered in getting my car repaired a second time. Given this turn of events, I would no longer recommend getting your car serviced at Car Tek, unless you live within towing distance of their facility. read more

Found this place on Yelp. I was hoping to find a place that did not cost as much to do an oil change as at the Pleasanton Lexus. I dropped off my car for an oil change with a $5 coupon off, and the total came up to be $40 and cents. Took about 45 minutes for the service. Just took my 03 Taurus back in for its 60k Service. With the coupon on the website it was only $389, and the same service at the dealership is $585.00. Going to Car Tek you get the normal savings of $200 less than the dealership, but I also saved big by taking Ryan's advice. The guys were quick and did a great job. When I first brought my car over in February Ryan advised me of a small drip in the oil pan. I had just purchased the car and was ready to spend the money to get it in tip top shape. Ryan advised me to hold off and said he would monitor it, that it wasn't worth it to spend the money just yet. This saved me a TON of cash, because now at 60k miles I still don't need to replace it. I drive close to 30k miles a year, and it is great knowing that Car Tek is looking out for my best interest and keeping my car in tip top shape. I live in San Jose now, but I won't take my car anywhere else. P.S. While I was waiting for my car I overheard one of the mechanics tell Ryan that the rear brakes of one of the cars they were working on were perfectly fine, and didn't need to be replaced. The customer had been told by their dealership to replace all the brakes. When they came to Car Tek they beat the price by $200 bucks and took the job. So they were already saving the guy money. They easily could have just replaced the brakes and the customer would have been happy. Instead they called the customer and advised the customer to hold off on the rear brakes and just get the front, saving them even more money. There is no way for California to rate the sucess or failure of their Emissions Program, without knowing what vehicles pass, and *what vehicles fail*. For any reason. The check engine light's function AND status are part of the smog check as described by california state law, just as the exhaust emissions themselves. They are legally held to completely test all aspects of your emissions system. If they bounced you for your check engine light you may never have known you had another issue either. How many trips do you want to take to repair shops to get your car fixed, smogged and registered? If you think breaking the law for the price of one smog check, or to save the customer the price of a smog check (which was often customary before these new smog laws) is worth losing the capability of doing emissions testing at their facility and or losing their buisness liscense all together; is worth it, you are sorely mistaken. The only issue I see is in Dublin Car Tek not being able to help you understand this. But as hard as one tries, this just isnt always possible. read more

They are Diamond Certed, and accept Yelp, a lot of courage for small Biz's to do. Ryan Tue Mgr on duty is careful and not just thrown to thrown to the wolves and listens to get your input about the issue your vehicle is experiencing. A bit on the expensive side, bit you get what you apt for quality service. Giving that extra mile to us as customers, may just make difference for where we repair at. Went in kinda last min. I had an hour for lunch and needed to have a smog check from a "star" station. Not sure what the difference is between star vs. Standard smog check, but in any case it costs more. Went in and asked if they could do a star smog check. They took me right then and it took about 30min. Pretty cool for last min request. Car passed smog, and I left a satisfied customer. Nice technician and friendly service. read more
