Never had Duck Donuts before. Loved it. Not sure about the reviews these other people posted, but when a place is brand new, you have to expect a learning curve for staff and a line out the door. I very much thought the donuts were worth the wait. Glazed with peanut butter icing and oreo top was my favorite, and my wife loved the chocolate glaze with oreo topper and raspberry drizzle. This was my first time here as I referred by a coworker, these donuts are nothing short of amazing. The fact that they are made to order was the best part for me. I love sweets fresh out the oven or oil/grease for this matter. I went about an hour before they closed and there was no long line just two parties in front of me. Me and my two daughters went there on a Friday morning around 10:00 am. It wasn't very busy and we placed our order which was a breakfast sandwich, two donuts and a water. The sandwich didn't take long to make but it took at least 20 to 25 minutes to make two donuts. My number was 64, yet a woman with her kids who came after us got their donuts before we did (their number was 66). Once I got my donut, it was so hot that I couldn't even get it out of the box and put on my plate. I had intended to get a dozen to take home but changed my mind after the slow service. I cannot even imagine what it is on a Saturday morning. I do not know why they did not have at least 2 to 3 dozen already pre-made so the workers could just put the icings on later. I do not plan to come back. Just a big disappointment. read more

They do plain vanilla cake donuts with toppings. Woohoo. So if this is going to be your model, you better have a kick ass base (i.e., cake donut). Duck's were mediocre. I mean, I understand donuts are fried, but these retained way too much oil. And the topping selections were pretty limited, especially in light of what other shops with similar models are offering. I don't get the whole customize-your-donut fad. I like the flavor in my donut, not dressed on top. And the flavor's just not here at Duck's. I much prefer DK Diner where the blueberry, chocolate, and sour cream is in the donut itself. read more

Not the biggest fan of the texture of the doughnut itself. It seems overly spongy/soft but it definitely doesn't ruin the donut. It's tasty, and the combinations are endless. I guess I'm just a Cincinnati Holtmans Donuts lover at heart. read more

I absolutely love the the donuts and remain amazed how good a plain old vanilla cake donut can be. We always make it a point to go there when we go to the Outer Banks and they are just as good here as they are on vacation. I love the concept of the freshly made donuts with your choice of flavored glazes and toppings! The donuts are a good mediator in texture between Destination Donuts (which are dense) and Dunkin Donuts (light and airy). Seems like a great idea, but it takes forever. They don't have any pre made flavors so each donut has to be made for each order. That a great concept, but if you need to be somewhere don't stop here. It took over 30mins to get 6 donuts because of the crowd, only 2 small fryers (both which went down at the same time), and all the workers standing around chatting rather than working. After the fryers were back up they finally announced that something was wrong and that it was fixed. They gave free coffee, but that didn't make up for my time. read more

I guess I can understand the hype, but I'll never return. Ridiculously long wait for donuts. I'm sure if I was on vacation and had nothing to do for the next week, it'd be kind of fun to sit and wait for a fresh warm donut, and watch them make them. Which is probably why the original location of Duck Donuts at the beach in South Carolina succeeded. But I'm never on vacation when at Polaris. I rarely ever have time to kill, let alone kill it waiting for a donut. I can't imagine waiting for a dozen. If a fresh warm donut is what you want, and you're willing to wait, then by all means come here. There rest of us in the working world will go to donut businesses that value their customers' time. read more

Worst experience I've ever had in any donut shop, coffee shop or café in my life. Did not get my dozen donuts until nearly 25 minutes after I placed my order. Yes the store was busy but people who came in well after me were getting their orders before me and I don't just mean people who got two or three donuts but those who also got a dozen or 18. When I asked why I didn't have my donuts yet one of the staff said that the person working on my order ran out of syrup. Really?!?! How is everyone else getting their donuts ahead of me then? I am not new to Duck Donuts and my first couple experiences have been very good. Today, that is not the case! The girl that presented them to me for inspection copped an attitude when I told her the powdered sugar was light and asked if she could add more. I purchased 18 for our family and waited 25 minutes while an obviously confused teen staff try to push out the orders. When I returned home to my waiting family, the donuts were soggy, undercooked and tasteless...nothing like in the past. Taking them back would have been a joke,10 minute drive, 20 minute wait in line, 25 minute prep...I don't have that kind of time today. I have posted my concern on their site but doubt I will hear anything, good thing Monday is trash day...in they go! read more

This was the slowest service I have ever gotten for donuts. It took over 20 min to make 2 donuts for my order. There were about 10 high school kids "working" aka standing there doing nothing and chatting with each other. Donuts are fine but certainly NOT worth the wait. read more

As a novelty, Duck Donuts is great. It's really fun to go in, custom order your donuts and have them made-to-order; served hot and fresh. And while they are hot and fresh, the donuts are very good. But let's get real. You are paying $1.40 for a DONUT! So, maybe you're willing to pay a premium price for the novelty of the hot, customized donut, if you buy them and take them home, once they have cooled down they are not any better than most other bakery donuts that costs half the price. Bottom line-if you're out and about and want to stop in for a fun snack, then go for it. If you want to buy donuts for the breakroom at work, forget it. read more
