Duffy's Tavern has been a Miami staple since the mid 50's when Marty Duffy was the proprietor. It has that home town bar feel, similar to what was portrayed in the TV show Cheers. Many a picture hangs on the wall of all the patrons over the many decades that have enjoy the place. It was the favorite hangout of many a working man whether it be a construction worker, cop, firefighter, etc. Over time college kids from the U discovered it being right down the road, and still frequent it to this day. It is also a family restaurant where parents will bring groups of kids to the dining area on the weekends, whether it be from baseball or basketball games. Duffy's was a fairly small bar with limited parking, but has expanded over the years, and now has additional parking and seating. They also have a separate room for small private events, and even outdoor seating. The beer is always fresh and cold, and there is a full liquor bar serviced by Jimmy, who does a great job and knows how to do a proper Guinness pour. One of the best kept secrets is the food at Duffy's. They have fresh fish, wonderful pork chops, and the list goes on and on. My personal favorite is their Ruben on rye. I am very particular about fat, and their Ruben is as lean as it comes. They also give you a choice of regular or sweet potato fries which are always done just right. Their burgers are great, and when they have the roast beef sandwich special, you cannot go wrong ordering it. There are plenty of TV's so you don't miss any of the games, yet you don't feel as if you are in one of the soulless chains. Duffy's Tavern has character that is a welcome change. They are old school, and only accept cash, but have an ATM inside, so no worries there. Jimmy Sr & Wayne are the owners, and Wayne is there most of the time to make sure everything is tip top. Ever have something not to your liking, just seek him out, and he makes it right. I should know, as I have been coming there since I was a kid. I'm a foodie and enjoy dining out often. Today's lunch experience trying out this place was very disappointing. I ordered the fish and chips which was over fried and my grandma had the salmon with baked potato. The salmon wasn't fully cooked in the center and baked potato was dry and tasted old. Okay everyone that has written that this place is awesome or that it has the best burgers you need to really get out there and try more burgers. A freaking Big Mac is better than the thing called a burger at this bar, I've had some very disappointing burgers in my day and this one takes the cake, I'd seriously prefer Mcdonalds or burger king. The service sucked, I could have gotten over the fact that the burger sucked but when the service sucks too then I have a problem. My girlfriend and I are bar hoppers and even sitting at the bar we had horrible service and waited forever to get our beers. Disappointment is an understatement. My boyfriend ordered simple chicken tenders and they were completely raw on the inside (they were literally clear on the inside). He had cut all of the tenders in half and noticed that they were all raw, not just one tender. When we asked the waitress to please give him cooked ones, they literally just refried the same tender pieces he had cut, they didn't even have the decency to give him new fully cooked tenders. I ordered the small burgers and to no surprise, raw on the inside to the point where blood was actually dripping out from the burger. They then brought back basically burnt burgers after the waitress took it back. I also ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and of course they never came and honestly after seeing the quality of the food there was no point in asking for them. Overall, terrible food. Went there last night to watch the NBA finals with a bunch of people. We had a good server. He was able to handle 8 of us without panicking. I tried a bunch of my old favorites like the Mexicali Burger, and they were still pretty awesome, but I also tried the wings for the first time and the fried zucchini. Pretty damn good. Duffy's overall is like a bar done right: they have cold draught beer in frosted mugs, they have good specials on beer, they have great bar food, great hot dogs, and great hamburgers. Really a perfect place to watch a game, but I wouldn't recommend it if your goal is to have a quiet dinner with your family or drown your sorrows at the bar in a quiet atmosphere. I went yesterday to duffys with a couple of friends for the 5 dollar Monday burger special the place reminds me of Flanigans but deff not as good lol the service was kind of slow the server was ok not too friendly though the burgers took FOREVER! when it got there the meat looked like frozen meat and the bacon wasn't Crunchy :/ it tasted old :( the cheese was still cold. I would've rather spent my $5 in Wendy's! Ewww I ate half of the burger my friends finished there's omg when I got home I had the worse stomach ache!! My husband has a strange obsession with this place for whatever reason. If he was to rate it, he'd probably give it a 5 star rating. Maybe it's the whole "hideaway with the boys for a beer and fish sandwich" kind of feel he gets, who knows (I don't get men anyways). Anyhow, I decided to crash this trademark boys hideaway to see what the big fuss is all about - plus there's nothing better than tainting my husband's illusion of "this is my special place with my homies." BWUHAHAHAH :) Sorry, back to the review. Upon entering, it's a typical irish dive bar with lots of green everywhere. The decor is cozy, with tons of beer bottles and sports banners styling the roof and walls and TVs hanging showing your favorite sports team (and the Marlins). Booths and high tops are the majority of the tables you'll see, and there's a fun little bar in the middle. On to the drinks, hubby had a beer and I had a vodka soda - simple and good. Limes are juicy, not dry like typical bar limes (yes people, this is important to me). We ordered the breaded chicken wings with blue cheese on the side. Now I'm a wing person, frequenting sports grills and flanigans due to my obsession, so I was impressed with the yumminess of these wings! Very fatty, don't get me wrong, but so good with the creamy blue cheese. On to the food, I ordered chili cheese fries (a well rounded meal, lol) and hubby is obsessed with the fried dolphin sandwich so that's what he gets every time. The cheese fries were good, but I could have done without the chili as it was a little bit watery and made the fries soggy. BOO - not happy with that since I was sooo loooking forward to the fried deliciousness... My hubby's fish sandwich was pretty tasty, comes with tartar sauce and fries and it was pretty good. Large piece of fish, too - they weren't stingy and I like that. Service here is pretty good too, and you see the owner checking in on you now and then - nice touch. Birthdays are pretty funny here too as the owner puts a song on the loud speaker and muffles something about being a knucklehead over the speaker to the birthday boy. Overall, a three star rating.
