Finally checked out the patio at Dugout Bar. The patio itself is quite nice. You have a nice view. Lots of dogs walking past. The furniture on the patio leave something to be desired, but for a hole in the wall bar, it was as expected. The drinks are cheap and strong. The food is typical bar food. We got the pretzel bites and potato skins. They were both ok. Nothing special. All in all, if you are just looking to patio drink, it's worth a stop. read more

Bars and dive bars, 2 separate categories and the dugout is certainly a dive. But a clean drive! Located in the hipster foodie paradise that is fletcher place you can find this gem. when you walk in there's a longish bar, and on the other side is a bunch of tables with dart boards, TVs and a juke box. Outside of that, it's just your typical bar. Very friendly atmosphere, the waitresses are attentive, and the patrons accommodating to others. Usually a decent selection of music playing as well if a game or the race isn't on. Can't beat the prices! Daily specials, good beer bucket prices. Lots of good fried food a pizza to choose from. You can go with a small or a large group, and of course as I always mention. Enjoy the warm weather while you can in Indianapolis and sit outside, people watch. There's bikers and the scooter riders that add to entertainment as well! read more

Met a few friends at the Dugout Bar for a lunch meeting. They service and food exceeded my expectations at this restaurant. We all ordered the Blackened Salmon Salad for our lunch and it was a unanimous agreement that it was a fantastic salad. It was cooked well and a generous portion size. They also offer free WiFi which was great since this was a working lunch. read more

It looked like a liquor store at first! The pizza and wings were surprisingly good! We got the pepperoni and sausage pizza and buffalo wings with some friends. I would easily visit again. There was also a live band playing that like which was really cool. Will definitely Come again for more pizza and wings. Whiskey was sour was decent. A little heavy on the whiskey (i normally wouldn't complain about this but I'm not 21 anymore and actually want it to taste right vs getting trashed lol) oh! The broad ripple chips were SO good! I love a fancy bar with craft cocktails and fancy sounding names as much as the next person, but sometimes all you need is a dive. We sat at the bar, had prompt service, and a great time with classic beers and good fried food. We had a pitcher of Miller High Life and the pepper jack cheese balls. Our bill was $14. You can't get much better than that. Enough said. read more

I love love the dugout! It's seriously our best local dive bar in the city. The food is amazing and you wouldn't believe it's bar food. They have a green egg smoker and even smoke the meat they utilize. The pepper jack cheese balls are a must! They even have a cheap brunch on Saturdays and Sundays which is a perfect way to start off any game day. The drinks are affordable and they have a huge variety of alcohol. You never have to wait long for drinks and the staff is so awesome and friendly. There's two sides to the bar! One side is more of dive bar, while the other side is a little more upscale and you can rent it for a venue space. Ultimately though the patio is the best part. They have such a cute little area for the day time or in the evenings! If you haven't been to the dugout take yourself to Fountain Square and have a cocktail! read more

I had heard about the expanded bar/restaurant and as I walked along Virginia Avenue, I thought it might be cool to sit out and people watch. Unfortunately, there was only one person working the lunch shift and she couldn't cover both sides of the business as well as watch the patio. So make a note that dining outside is an evening option. Inside, the bar is dark with lots of tv's going (only one with volume on.) I grabbed a spot at the bar and waited for the waitress to return to the floor. It wasn't too long (a couple minutes), but felt odd until I realized she was the only one working the front of the house. Anyway, I ordered a breaded tenderloin and a side of tots. They were ready in short order and the portions were large. Lots of tots that were lightly seasoned and had a nice crunch. The tenderloin was a decent size and not pounded thin, so it held its moisture. The bun itself was a bit buttery or maybe had a slight oil coating from being on the grill which necessitated using my napkin frequently. The flavor was really good though, so I didn't mind too much. Check out was fairly quick but there was a bit of a mixup on the change. Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of when you pay. Good good with large portions and prompt turnaround times. The Dugout Bar is like two bars in one. It's a dive bar on one side and a modern craft brew pub on the other. The beer selection is great. It's a bit pricy for what is modern dive bar food but the food quality was OK. The food did come out quickly even though the place was packed, so kudos to the kitchen for that. read more

We were attending an event across the street from The Dugout Bar when we decided to still over and sit on their patio to enjoy some live music. The band was awesome! We ordered some beer, which was cold and a really great price! Then I took a look at the menu. Two words: fried ravioli. I never knew this existed! It was SO good! A food dream of mine come true. I would have given Dugout bar a better review, but my experience was less than perfect. The only highlight of my experience was the food. The grilled pork tenderloin was wonderful and one of the best pork tenderloin I've had in a while. Chase, our server, was good to our table and gave us good service, but one of the women who waited on us on the patio was very rude and was going to cut us off from having drinks because she thought we were affiliated with a group of people who just got off the pickle pedaler and were totally smashed. We were not affiliated with the group and we had just arrived and ordered a drink when she waited on us, so she had no right to cut us off from ordering alcohol. The woman was dressed in black and had a ponytail, brown hair. Thank God Chase saved the day and smoothed things over with us, so we were able to order a beer with him. Needless to say, because of this incident, I doubt I will be coming back to Dugout bar for a beer or food anytime soon. If you do decide to come to Dugout Bar, just be careful with who your server is at your table and don't come off of the pickle pedaler, because you will not be served alcohol from Dugout bar if you do. Be smart and just come to Dugout bar to have one beer and chill out with friends. read more

I'm so glad my friends decided to drag me here on a Friday night after work! I had always heard good things about Dugout, but never had the chance to go. We ended up sitting at a big table on the patio. It was a super nice day out and the bench type seating allowed for a good amount of us to fit at one table. Their drink and food menus are extensive and had a ton of great options depending on what you are feeling. I ended up getting a Tequila Soda w/ Lime, an order of BBQ wings, and a side of fries. All of which were so good! The wings had a ton of sauce on them, which I loved and the fries were big enough to share with those around me. I was also pleasantly surprised when I got the bill and it was SUPER cheap! One thing I really didn't get to experience was the live music that was supposed to be going on outside. The artist got there late, just as we were leaving, and we only heard his first few songs. I bet the live music really adds a lot to the ambiance here. Another thing about dugout that wasn't my favorite was that our server wasn't very attentive. We did have a large group so we were constantly asking for more drinks or ordering more food and I can see how that would get irritating, but it felt like we were constantly chasing her down. They could have been understaffed but the service could have been better. Overall, great place! I will definitely be returning sometime soon. Pro-Tip: be sure to sit outside when it's nice out! The picnic tables and bench seating allow for large groups to fit easily. read more

Your classic dive bar. Sit on the old side for the best experience, and on the new side if you're into that kind of thing. Cheapest drinks downtown and fountain square combined. Food is bar food. Don't expect anything else, but it is at the least good bar food. The cheese poppers are to die for and quality good restaurant food. Homegrown Indiana people here. My friends and I stopped in here on a Sunday before a home Colts game. It was seat yourself with tons of tables open when we arrived - the place did start to fill up closer to game time and has plenty of TVs to stay and watch the game. We were headed to Lucas Oil so we were just in for a couple pitchers of beer and some appetizers before the game! My friend got the chicken tenders (huge pieces of chicken!) and I ordered the breaded mushrooms! Everything tasted great and we were in and out in about an hour. Can you say fried bologna sandwich with onion rings!! Wow! Lunch before leaving Indy visiting our daughter and son in law found us here in this nice bar-hangout with pretty solid food and the service was very good!! I already mentioned my bologna but my wife had a pulled pork with jalapeños and caramelized onions pizza with a cauliflower parmigiana crust. She said it was great. Lots of locals here says it must be an enjoyable little joint all the time. read more

Only one of the best spots in Fountain Square area. The food is INCREDIBLE! I'm vegetarian which they can accommodate with more than just a couple options which is amazing for a bar of this type. The patio in the warmer months is so much fun and you can almost always get a seat since there are so many! Love this place! read more

This place was recommended by my Airbnb host and it didn't disappoint. It's billed as Indiana's best dive bar. It was way to clean to be a true dive but if you mean great quality for a low price when you say dive bar, the this is the place. Went with my nephew after a Pacer's / Heat game. Tried the chicken tenders, Mac n cheese and ravioli (pictured) all were great and didn't disappoint. Reasonable and diverse beer and alcohol list. Can't wait to go back next visit. read more

Since it is Pi Day, I decided to get a pizza for lunch. Came here because it was a place I've never tried before. The place was clean and had a nice, relaxed atmosphere. The service was fast, friendly, and courteous. The food was good and reasonably priced. The deep fried ravioli was served with cold marinara sauce, which put me off for a moment, but contrasted nicely with the warm ravioli. The pizza sauce had a nice tangy flavor, which I like better than the sweetish sauce that some other places use. read more

You cannot beat their prices for food and drinks. They unfortunately did not have a drink menu or or drink special menu. I like to see what all they have to offer to make a decision. It was a tidy place, a little outdated, but quaint. Its a good place to just come chill with your friends. They had several large TV's, all located so that everyone could see. It is def a hole in the wall place, you can almost miss it if you're walking by. There was only one server for our large party, so service was a bit slow. The Dugout bar has an outstanding laid-back atmosphere, outstanding food, and cold beer, all at great value. The outdoor patio area is a great space to hang out on a nice day. I met some friends for a pre-show drink at the dugout. The night was brisk and the seats on the sidewalk were full of people laughing and catching up with friends after a long week. I had to go inside to get a drink, but the bartender did a great job and was very nice. It's bright inside with a lot of locals filling the bar stools. No frills, good pub grub. Hit an ATM before you get there. Theirs charges a $5 fee. Walking distance to see a show. Street parking. read more

Service is hit or miss. We had a male bartender that wasnt very nice and then we had a female bartender that was super nice and cool. Food is a solid B-. The chicken quesadilla was good but the cheese balls appetizer and the breaded mushroom appetizer were both gross. The place has an overall good vibe and is in a good location, virgina st with lots to do. The bar attracts a good clientele also. read more

We stopped in for a nightcap a couple of weekends ago and it was packed and a group of girls were being incredibly loud, so it was very hard to hear inside. We ended up eventually going outside to sit on the patio and had a much better time. You can't go wrong with a miller lite and a pour of maker's mark, but you also can't go wrong with their prosecco on draft.
