Unlike the other Americanized-Chinese fast food vendors in the Garden State Plaza Mall food court, there seems to be less of an emphasis on your usual chicken and broccoli and other MSG-ridden fast foods and more of an emphasis on noodle soups and dumplings here, which is ...... AWESOMEEEEEEEE ....... since there is such a lack of such food in North Jersey. I've passed by this vendor every time I've come to the Garden State Plaza Mall's food court to eat and finally gave it a try on a recent Sunday afternoon. And, not to my surprise, this was BY FARRR the most popular vendor. There were multiple reasons for that, including the fact that the other Chinese food vendors weren't serving up their entire repertoire, so everyone pretty much, rightfully flocked to Dumpling Cafe. With that said, we ordered the Pork Wonton Noodle Soup and it was pretttty, prettttty good. First of all, they served the noodle soup in a nice, fancy, plastic bucket, which kept the noodles and soup separate. If I could relate it to anything, it looked like a bougie version of a KFC 10 piece chicken bucket. The noodle and soup were decent, but I wish they would have added a few more pieces of veggies and wontons. There were only 5 wontons in the noodle soup, so another 1-2 would have been nice, but beggars can't be choosers I guess. I've yet to try the ramens, Taiwanese noodle soups, pho or dumplings, but can only guess that they should be worth every penny based on the Pork Wonton Noodle Soup. read more

Located inside the Garden State Plaza food court in Paramus, this establishment is a very casual, no-frills eatery that was open on Sundays for lunch.   Dumpling Cafe features Japanese cuisine with the star of the show being handmade dumplings. In Chinese culture, dumplings are more than just a versatile food item. They signify comfort, hope, and prosperity. They also have various Asian-style soups, from ramen, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and Vietnamese, for those cold days.    I decided on the Pork and Shrimp Wonton Noodle soup (Hong Kong style). The meal was packaged for takeout, where the noodles were separated from the broth, bok choy, and wontons.   The soup was super rich, milky broth, filled with a couple of wontons, bok choy, and the noodles had a lovely chew. All of their dishes were made with only the freshest of ingredients of the highest quality to achieve the best flavors and presentation. The service was quick and the price reasonable. As some other patrons have commented, they didn't expect to find this level of food in a mall but are glad I came by and can recommend it. read more

A new kid in the mall - honestly didn't expect much but at least one item was surprisingly good. First, I think this was their soft opening and there were many people in the kitchen that didn't seem to know what they were doing and was a bit chaotic. They also have a lot of items on the menu besides just dumplings... they also have Chinese noodle soups and I believe some popular south Asian stuff too, which is never a good sign. We ordered two things of dumplings and a roast duck noodle soup, and while dumplings came out soon enough (literally just pick up and serve- but other orders were in front of us and they were confused), the noodle soup took forever to come out. Turns out they got orders mixed up and didn't even began making ... and when it finally came out it was printed on receipt as roast pork noodle soup. But whatever - we were hungry so show us what you got! Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll 3 Pcs (App, 4/5) - Pretty decent! Good filling & mouth feel. Spicy Beef Dumpling (App, 3/5) - A bit thick on the skin but made up for it with quantity and filling wasn't too bad and had a kick which was interesting. Roast Duck Noodle Soup (MAIN, 5/5) - Now this was the BIG surprise. I think they overdid it with duck quantity, and I'm not complaining! Since it's a soft launch, I think they really wanted to dish it out and there was so much roasted duck that we had trouble maintaining meat-to-noodle ratio. It was almost 1-for-1. The duck was well-roasted and full of flavor, and surprisingly not overly greasy from a mall place. Broth was hearty and deep, very satisfying, again, at a MALL food court. We were pleasantly impressed with this bowl. Great quantity of noodles and broth, too, served in a smart double-container that keeps noodles separate until you wanna commence dunking. Only improvement would be to add a bit more bokchoy as the soup was crowded out by duck(!) Overall, we enjoyed our first meal here - not sure how long they can serve at this level though due to proliferation of SKUs (too many different foods) and the general chaos I witnessed in the very-visible kitchen. I was thrilled to see a Chinese place (not American-Chinese) in the food court. We shared the shrimp Pho, pork and cabbage dumplings, and a roast duck bento box. The food was pretty good for a mall. We weren't able to finish everything and wrapped it up for dinner the next day. The roast duck was the best of the three dishes. The pho noodles stuck together and were hard to separate. Maybe a little oil could help with the packaging. read more

7/1/24 Returned on a quieter weekday and not much better.... Still long wait, but it annoys me that my order came out 1 at a time, instead of together. Shrimp Dumplings were good but the skin is so THICK! Pork Buns were the same inside as the Xiao Long Bao... Chasui Pork Buns were meh, not much meat inside. Hubby said I was stupid to try again.... Dumpling Cafe is relatively new and still working out their operation at GSP. I liked the dumplings; pretty good considering this is a station at the mall food court. Know that the dumplings are made-to-order, so there's a wait. Also, when I went, line management was not a thing - so you're not sure who has ordered already and who is waiting to order. read more

I literally had the worst food ever in my life. I place an order of Chicken Teriyaki box which has 3 pieces dumplings and veggie. It taste disgusting, even i put some hot sauce on top, i couldnt eat it. It supposedly come with chicken meat, all it has was some animal skin. It doesn't taste like chicken and there was no meat, it was all the skin. It includes 4 pieces of California roll which is terrible. Steamed veggies were also terrible. read more

Was really hungry for some duck wonton noodle soup while the kids were shopping and thought I'd get some down time to enjoy a quick meal. What I didn't bargain for was paying nearly $15 for merely noodles and bony neck pieces of duck! Who does that? And it took a while to make. I haven't been to this mall in at least 20 yrs, and was surprised to see the variety of options in the food court that included this Chinese place that included Taiwanese beef noodle soup, dumplings, etc. The menu was impressively diverse for a food court. I ordered the beef noodle soup and my daughter had the shrimp dumplings. The skin of the shrimp dumplings could've been a lot less thick but otherwise tasted okay. The beef noodle soup was flavorful and had melt-in-your-mouth tender beef and baby bok choy, but the soup was wayyyy too salty! Next time I go back to this mall, I will try the noodle soup again but request it be a lot less salty. read more

Ate here for the first time recently and it was actually really good for a mall fast food spot. Don't listen to all the negative reviews. I eat noodle soup frequently and for a mall it's very tasty! As for the dumplings some were made with the thicker wonton wrappings rather than the white rice wrapping, I just chose to try something else instead. The sushi was very good as well. The Mongolian chicken and mango chicken was very tasty as well. The workers were very helpful and sweet. Try it for yourself. It's set in a mall setting so don't expect fine dining but for what it's worth a huge selection. read more

It was my first time eating/ordering from Dumpling Cafe in the food court of the Garden State Plaza Mall. I ordered the pork and shrimp wonton soup. I was surprised that it was very good! The portion was HUGE. There were 6 large wontons and LOTS of baby bok choy in it. The egg noodles were good. Gave this place a try twice. First time food took insanely long to come out but gave them a pass seeing as it was their opening week. The sushi I had gotten tasted just okay but the fish was cut way too thick and I could tell whoever they have in charge of making the sushi isn't experienced. The other thing I ordered they said they didn't have so I got a refund. Still, I decided to give it another chance and after spending $25 on a salad and a sushi taco it was absolutely disgusting and inedible so it ended up getting tossed in the garbage after one bite. Said it came with sauce and didn't get that. When I asked for sauce the guy working there was incredibly rude. Will not return. Really conflicted review. I've eaten here 3 times now. First time was just after they opened and I wasn't really sure what to do so I ordered egg tarts...they were decent. Shell is more cookie-like and not flaky so keep that in mind. Second time I wanted to try their dumplings so I asked the cashier what the difference was between "Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao" and "Pork Soup Dumplings" since they are the same it seems (xiao long bao are soup dumplings in literally any other restaurant on earth). The two young men at the register compared notes and said the soup dumplings had soup in them where as the xiao long bao does not (really?)! I ordered the soup dumpings as the safe bet. First bad sign was the fact that it came out very quickly...probably 5 min before the bento box we also ordered so I stood around waiting while the dumplings got cold(er). When we finally got the rest of the meal I opened the container to see the deflated "soup" dumplings. They were barely lukewarm, the skin was very thick and only one of the 7 actually had soup in it (maybe 1/2 teaspoon). The rest had holes in the skin where the soup drained out (probably in their steamer during transfer because it was not in my container). Huge disappointment. To my surprise, the chicken in the bento box was fantastic which leads me to my most recent visit. Ordered the chicken teriyaki rice bowl and it was DELICIOUS! Hot and fresh and taste was even better than Sarku on their best day. Amazing! This will be my go to from now on if I decide to go back. Selection is wide but I'd be weary of anything from their dumpling/steamer selection...disappointing since that is literally their name. Service is terrible. Young man at the register for all of my visits wasn't exactly rude but definitely not pleasant and mostly a deterrent for me. The woman before me on my last visit would agree since she had trouble with her order and when it was revealed as their mistake and not her's he and one of the ladies in the hot food section just looked at each other and snickered.
