I don't have much to say about Dumpling Kitchen... When I went inside, the ambience was dead. There was no greeting or anyone available at the register. When someone did show up and I had questions, the staff had no idea how to help me. The menu was small and it brought so many questions. I wouldn't even consider this place a restaurant, it was more like a pop-up shop in a building to big for itself. When I got my dumplings that I ordered, I will not kid around Yelpers. I literally felt like I got scammed a bit. The dumplings were possibly boiled from a frozen bag. That's what I got from the flavor. I ended up eating what I ordered because I was traveling and really wanted a great place to eat that had well... dumplings. I will give them another try considering we are still going through this pandemic. Look out for a revisited review in the future! read more

There's a small window where you can see someone freshly making the dumplings (totally makes me think of the animated short, "Bao" which is a favorite of mine). They also now have Yelp wait-list and take credit cards. Street metered parking (which is fairly difficult to find). Small restaurant, really good food. Luckily there was no wait when we arrived but it was completely full on a Thursday night. As for recommendations, the Shanghai style chow mien noodles were delicious! Also the Mongolian beef and spare ribs. They have lots of vegan options as well. One I would recommend is the vegetarian shumai. They bring your table hot chili oil, soy sauce, and some sort of vinegar. Hot tea as well! I came here on a Tuesday for a quick lunch with my dad right when it opened at 11am and there was still plenty of street parking (2 hours free). We were seated immediately, but we had to ask for a couple items throughout our time there (menu, vinegar for the XLB) since they didn't seem to be completely ready/prepared. We ordered the Shanghai-style Steamed Pork Dumplings (10 pieces) and the Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings (10 pieces). Everything came out in about 10 minutes. Both dumplings were satisfactory and filled me up. The only thing I did not like was the vinegar for the XLB, which looked and maybe tasted like it was left sitting out for about 50 years. 4.5 stars I love this place! Recently have just been craving soup dumplings like crazy so this has been my go to spot. The prices are extremely fair as well, with most dumplings typically being about $10/10 whereas dim-sum places will typically run for much more per piece. I like getting the shanghai style soup dumplings, they're freshly made in the back and they kind of have a little glass room where you can see them being prepared. Another great dish is the wontons in chili oil, they have a bit of malaa flavor which I typically don't like because I find the numbing of my tongue a little uncomfortable, but for these it wasn't too bad. My boyfriend's favorites are the siu mai with sticky rice, which are also amazing! I deducted half a star because every time I have ordered the soup dumplings to go they have forgotten my black vinegar sauce and eating them without it is not the same. I've been meaning to try Dumpling Kitchen for a while since they have so many reviews and Ali Wong ate here so of course I had to try it for myself. I came on a saturday morning and was lucky enough to get a table. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, shumai, xiao long bao and beef tendon/tripe/tendon. We also ordered the wontons in chili oil however we ended up getting super full with the other items and the wontons took days to be served so we ended up cancelling that. My favorite dish was the pan fried dumplings however they're SUPER HOT, so take caution when you eat. I'd say give it a couple minutes before you dig into that one or else you will definitely burn your mouth. The shumai and beef/tendon/tripe dishes were ok. The xiao long bao were not soup dumplings at all, I'd pass. The restaurant itself is pretty small, currently only have 6 tables to dine indoor so I'd recommend either coming early or expect a wait. Overall, decent food and nice service. Maybe I'd come back to try other dishes because my friend and I kept eyeing the dishes served to the other tables and they looked delicious! read more

We tried a variety of dishes and I would definitely recommend some items over others on the menu. We started with a plate of the chow mein and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this dish since the noodles were perfectly cooked and the sauce was super tasty. I would not recommend the steamed pork dumplings since they just lacked flavor. As someone who loves soup dumplings, these did not do it for me. I think I would return to try the rest of the menu since it's a pretty extensive menu, but some dishes were just lacking. read more

It's been over a year since I have visited and I would say they have improved on the pork XLB. The skin was nice and thin, filled with the perfect amount of meat and soup ratio. I also enjoyed their special edition - Giant pork and truffle XLB. Very juicy and rich in truffle flavored soup. read more

We ordered XLB, sheng jian bao, and potstickers. The XLB had thick skins, but they were soft. Even the tops didn't get hard after they cooled down a bit. There wasn't much soup in some of the dumplings, and they weren't bursting with flavor either. A fail for an XLB, but of course, it still tasted good. The sheng jian bao/juicy pan fried pork buns were crispy at the bottom, but they also had a thick skin, so the meat to bun ratio is off. The skin was soft, crispy, and chewy though. They also lacked in soup (which is not a requirement per se, but the best ones usually are very soupy.) The flavor was also lackluster. The potstickers were crispy and the skin was a little too thick, but it was chewy and had good flavor. The flavor was also a little lackluster. Overall, I feel as if the food could have been more bursting with flavors, and that the texture of the meat wasn't as perfect as it could be. The XLB is on point, the pork & crab is excellent, and even though the pan fried pot stickers sound basic, it's anything but. The broth in soups are tasty. The salt & pepper chicken wings are to die for. The stir-fried rice cakes (I've tried combination and pork w/ preserve veg) are the best I've had anywhere so far. It gets super busy here any day really, but especially the weekends. My course of action is to go right when it opens or after the lunch rush (2-3pm). If there are only two of you, they can seat you pretty quickly, but even for several people, they are able to move through a good pace for the amount of people waiting. The price was $11 for 10 so I was super happy with the quality! Pan fried dumplings were really juicy as well! The wontons had a good amount of spice to it that wasn't too overpowering but I'd steer clear if you're sensitive to any spice. The wrappers were super thin and had some tasty pork inside! Look great in pictures on yelp but just not good. The table next to us, with some pretentious loser rambling about buying a "ROLLY", also ordered and I overheard them saying they weren't fans either. For some reason if you are that pretentious loser who was talking about a ROLLY and you're reading this, don't buy one you can't pull it off and no one cares that you want one. But probably the best thing here and reasonably priced for good sized dumplings Sheng Jian bao - good crisp, decent flavor but super thick wrapper also. Shanghai chow mein - meh smaller portion. Overly salty. Noodles do have good chew though. Pea sprouts with garlic - super good! But damn is this pricey for the portion. This was ok, wouldn't come here again. I wanted to take my kids to lunch after our day at the zoo. We don't get out to SF much. I was worried about parking but was able to park on the street close by. We only had to wait 5 minutes. The staff were all very welcoming and polite. Chinese food is my last choice usually but that is because I've never had truly great Chinese food until now! We had bbq pork baos, pork and chive dumplings, walnut prawns, the best chow mein ever, and delicious spare rib bites.
