Everything I've had at this restaurant has been great. I've been here a bunch of times now (probably 4 to 5 times total), and it has never disappointed. It's surprisingly never that busy, and very easy to get seated right away. The staff have always been extremely nice and friendly and very attentive which I have always appreciated. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup + Pork XLB are my go-to orders. I get it them both every time I'm here, and it's always consistently good. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is very filling, and completely hits the spot every time. The broth is soothing packs the perfect amount of heat. It comes with tons of noodles, and very tender beef. The XLBs are really amazing. Make sure to eat them quickly before they cool down. The skin is not too thick, and they're always very juicy with tons of flavor. I've tried a few other things on the menu, all which have been great, but those 2 items I mentioned are definitely my favorites and part of my usual order always. Nice, clean spot with plenty of tables and pleasantly decorated. There was only one other table seated when I came in for lunch, and one server on hand. I was expecting a quick and tasty meal but you can't always get what you want. I ordered the XLB, which came out in a bamboo steamer. They left the lid on, which was great, as it kept the dumplings hot longer. There was a fair amount of broth in the dumplings and the pork had some nice flavor. The Spicy Pork Wontons were not very spicy but still enjoyable. So far, so good. The table condiments included the Red Label Kikkoman Soy Sauce, which is the high sodium sauce. I asked the server if they had the Green Label "Low Sodium" soy sauce, and he said that the sauce on the table was the low sodium. I told him that the low sodium had a green label, but he insisted that the red label was the low sodium. He was trying to convince me that they had what I was asking for, I didn't want to argue with him so I dropped it. If you don't have low sodium soy sauce, then just say, "We don't have it". Don't pretend that you do. The whole exchange was disappointing, but I still went on to order their Signature Beef Noodle Soup. After about ten minutes the server came over and started clearing my table. I reminded him that I was waiting for the Beef Noodle Soup, and a panicked look came over his face, as it was clear that he forgot to put in my order. Another disappointment. After waiting for at least 20 minutes, the soup finally came out. I asked for it to be spicy but there was barely any heat, so I added my own. The broth and the noodles were ok, but the dish did not contain much beef. In addition, the beef that was included, was very fatty. Several chunks were just completely inedible. Looking back on it, most of the beef wasn't good, so maybe it wasn't bad that I didn't get more in the dish. Again, disappointing. I was in the area and found this place on Yelp. Turned out to be a good find. Parking looks like it could be a little rough at busy times, but we showed up a little after lunch and found street parking. We were seated right away. The place is clean and bright. No one was playing anything on their cell phone speakers, which is something that I will leave a restaurant for immediately now. I think restaurants should be mindful of the atmosphere for their guests. The menu was fairly broad, lots of choices of things that were vegetarian. But there was a real lack of dumplings, which the place is named for that didn't contain beef or pork. There was really only one chicken choice, and one veggie. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles which were really good, but the serving size was skimpy. We also ordered the chicken soup dumplings which were very good and the shrimp wontons also really good in a chili oil and soy sauce. The Szechuan spicy chicken was uninspired. Deep fried nuggets of chicken with some szechuan chili powder sprinkled on them. I wouldn't order it again. The scallion pancakes were also good, but were not served with any kind of sauce. Perhaps this is authentic, but I'm used to them having hoisin sauce on the side. Service was attentive and fast. Everything arrived quickly and was hot and well prepared. Came here on a rainy day today to pick up some dumplings. This was my first time coming here. Food was not bad but it was annoying to be charged a "take out" fee that was automatically added to my bill. Ordering food that is over $75 for lunch and then having annoying extra fees added leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But the worst part was coming to the car and seeing they hadn't closed the lids properly and all the hot and sour soup had leaked into the plastic bag. I am a little bit surprised that the foods taste really good, because this place looks like American Chinese, which could be not as authentic as many good Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley area. The beef rib looks rough but it is actually very tender with mild seasoning so that you can still taste the meat flavor. The shrimp noodle is a good surprise for me because it is not like any of the Chinese noodle dishes I had before. The flavor is more sophisticated with well balanced aroma. Overall a good experience and now I am thinking about coming back to try their other dishes. The staff is also helpful for ordering dishes by telling us whether the ingredients are fresh or frozen. The owner (I think) who is the asian man is SO sweet and checks in with every table and seems like the kindest soul. Customer service is 10/10. My go to orders are the pork potstickers, green beans, and the spicy beef noodle soup. The beef noodle soup is SO good and honestly compares to Din Tai Fung's. Noodles are thin and chewy and beef is so tender. The pork potstickers have the crispiest top and juiciest soup and pork inside. The green beans are also cooked to perfection, seasoned with lots of garlic. Please show this restaurant more love if you're ever in South Pas or the SGV! The spicy pork wontons were wrapped in thick dumpling wrappers instead of the typical thin wonton skins. Very strange and way too thick. I ended up tossing most of it. The scallion pancakes were thin but flavorless. Perhaps they could've used some of that salt in the beef noodle soup. It also lacked a bit of the airiness in a properly fried pancake. Was on the 210 freeway and looked up dumplings, this place was recommended and had tons of great reviews so we gave it a try last night! Service was amazing, our servers were kind and continuously checking to see if there was anything we needed. I was really surprised to find good dumplings in South Pasadena! I got the pork soup dumplings, shrimp and chive potstickers, spicy beef noodle soup and shumai, and everything overall was really well made. I think my favorite would have to be the potstickers, because what I loved was that you couldn't really taste the chives (I love shrimp, but not chives) and the shrimp flavor really stood out. The soup dumplings were good, but not for the price. At $14 for 8 pieces when at most places it's under $10, I expected more. The good thing is that none of the skin broke and the soup was pretty substantial, but the skin wasn't as silky and the filling wasn't packed with a lot of flavor. I'd maybe get this again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Beef chunks in the beef noodle soup were better than most of the ones I've had. Overall, the soup wasn't that salty, but I think there was a bit too much chili oil in this that it really influenced the texture of the soup. The shumai also tasted really clean, and I liked that it wasn't overly oily compared to alot of other shumai I've had in the past. I got the passion fruit green tea as well and really enjoyed it. Noodles are very chewy and yummy. It's better than most noodle places. I had XLB and buns too, but I think they're average. Half of the 8 XLBs I had had their soup leaked onto the steaming plate. Service was really good, quick and got our orders fast. I never had to ask for water, they just kept filling it up, very thankful. Food - 5/5 - we ordered the beef noodle soup, which was so incredible, the har gow which is probably better than any har gow I have had in Alhambra, the pork soup dumplings which were unreal, the shu mai which was pretty good, and the cheesecake.
