Great food and fast service for a busy place. I'll definitely be coming back. I had the hamburger on a tortilla.

Well I tried to work out a misunderstanding on a phone order with Durans Station 4201 menaul blvd in abq yesterday and to no avail.Marcel the manager actually said screaming at me that I should do whatever I wanted(I said I would enter bad reviews) and that he would come after me too?? I'm not sure I would want this type of management running my establishment, especially in these turbulent times.All I was looking for was an apology and an admittance of dinging my card for another 13.00 (without my knowledge) on top of 21.00 for the original order for two lunch plates of enchiladas and 2 iced teas.Its not that hard to explain with understanding about the miscommunication with the order taker that an additional charge would be due because I had only been charged for one lunch plate instead of 2, the order that I had placed. Instead both employees tried to act as if it were my fault, saying the menu prices on line were old and incorrect, or that what did you think they should do? Not charge me?Or the way the order was placed with beef its extra??? Excuses is not the way businesses get people back in the door..Very disappointed in the service and the inability to involve the customer with the process(which there isn't much of obviously)of the price change and charging someone more money on their credit card when they haven't asked to do so. I have a hard time recommending anyone to go here because of the lack of customer appreciation and what it takes to be wanted to come back instead of being told I will come after you. When discouraged about a simple incident as I was when I first contacted Duran's Station, I as a manager would of handled in the 1st two sentences by using the integrity of the business and its owners to make the situation go away. Its 13.00..I didn't call screaming,I was very pleasant until the blame and the excuses started flying...All I expected was an explanation not that I would have to write this review..34.00 dollars for 4 corn totillas,chili,some meat and beans and a little garnish is not worth this kind of hassle. read more

My visit to Duran's Station was a really great experience. It took me a minute to find the restaurant, it's hidden in the slew of stores along Menaul NE located in the old adobe firehouse building. The restaurant itself is quaint, the floors are done in a polished concrete while the ceilings are adorned with myriads of lighting choices accompanied by aluminum ducting to give it an unfinished feel. The menu is very basic and straight forward. However, having food allergies myself I found the style of this restaurants food preparations were ideal to my needs. All the menu items were cooked separately with no chance of cross contamination between items. For instance, I have an extreme allergy to nuts and avocados. Usually I am weary of any restaurant that serves guacamole. Duran's however explained the way the food was prepared and even assured me they used canola oil to fry items rather than peanut oil. Additionally, this restaurant uses no preservatives in their food or MSG (Frontier uses both). I was also happy to see the garnish still had tomatoes included, local New Mexican tomatoes. The servers were more than patient and accommodating to my needs. I enjoyed a bowl of vegetarian chili (both red and green) with some whole pinto beans (much healthier than re-fried), steamed potatoes, and cheese. The bowl came with a fresh hand maid tortilla. You can actually watch the women make the tortilla then bring it to your table, can't get any fresher than that! I finished my meal with a lovely piece of buttermilk pie. The server even offered complementary watermelon when we were through. Overall, this was an excellent dining experience. The prices are a little higher than Garcia's but you're paying for quality which I find well worth it. I would suggest this restaurant to anyone looking for good authentic New Mexican food. read more

First of all I am going to start by saying some of these reviews here are a complete joke. If you're not used to eating chile then you have no business reviewing a New Mexican restaurant. That being said, yes the plates are drowning in chile but that's how we like it here (if you don't like it feel free to go back to Cali, you won't be missed). Their red is excellent, and you won't find better tortillas anywhere else. Their portions are huge and yes its a little pricey but everything there is made from scratch so you'll pay a little more for that. someone said the plates don't come with anything, no beans no rice no potatoes? Are you sure you're reviewing the right restaurant? No, they do not have rice but beans and/or potatoes come with all the plates, even the a la carte items. If you like real NEW Mexican food. Then go to Duran's. If you like the canned imitation stuff Gardunos is just up the street.. read more

I ordered a soft taco. Living here my whole life that would mean a flour tortilla, not corn tortillas dripping in grease.

The food and the service were both very good. This is a casual restaurant with friendly staff. We tried a variety of foods, but I recommend that you stick with their specialty items--those with green and red chilies. The stuffed sopapillas, enchiladas, and tamales were all very good. The tacos were average, but they are just tacos. This is a great place with reasonable prices. read more

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have eaten at in ABQ thus far. Great service, nice establishment. I highly recommend it!

My husband and I have lived in ABQ most our lives, but it's only been the last year we started frequenting Duran's Station. Can't believe we were missing out all those years! It's not even close to us but totally worth the drive. The Carne Adovada is amazing, the red chile by far my favorite in town, so smooth. My husband loves the roast beef tacos and the green chile cheeseburgers. This is the kind of place I would take out of state visitors for a true New Mexican meal. Duran's Station is one of the best if not the best eating establishment in New Mexico as far as we are concerned. Always consistent in quality and in quantity. All employees are courteous. Atmosphere is friendly. Food is always hot, tasteful with great red and green Chile. Duran's Station is never stingy with portions. We have never left hungry or wishing we had had more to eat. All aspects of the restaurant are clean. Never any unclean utensils. read more

Birthday celebration dinner last night. Food was terrible!! We are natives and this food does not represent NM well. Chili Rellenos were heavily battered and the doughy (under cooked). Chili inside the dough was flavorless. Beans were not fresh and were dry! Why do you have to pay extra for sopapillas? Those were terrible too!! The other plates were bad and will not return ever again!! Go somewhere else for your chili fix!!! read more

I have been living in ABQ for 5 years and used to think the only chili I'd ever need to know about came in a can from Hormel. I couldn't quite grasp the concept of my mouth aflame being a good thing. However, this cool diner changed my mind. I call it a diner because that's exactly how it's set up. I had more chile than I should have had and loved every bite (the green AND the red). Because it's a diner with awesome food, it's usually packed with people and for good reason- this place is worth the trip. I've had the stuffed sopapillas, tried their fries smothered with red & green chile and had a bite of the cheese enchiladas and it was all delightful. Actually, we brought family that dines exclusively at Eloy's and made them converts after one meal at Duran's. The prices are very affordable, the service is good and again, the food is authentic NM wonder bite after bite. I can't wait to try the Duran's in the back of the pharmacy in Old Town. My friend tells me they have the best red chile ever and while that statement never tempted me to go out and try a place before, it does now! read more

This place is AWSOME! We had great friendly service and the food was delicious. I had the Tortilla Soup and my son had the Burrito, the servings were more than generous, we tried to stuff it all in, but alas, that was simply not going to happen. Highly reccomend this restaurant! read more

The waiters were extremely busy but managed quick service and were very friendly throughout our visit. Normally don't like to bash a restaurant/s, but there are far better places down the street. And the service was horrible. Was the only person in the restaurant and waited ten minutes to order. Then waited ten more minutes for the waitress with a attitude to cash me out. She very much grabbed my twenty and gave me a face. I see the mixed reviews. I have been eating at Duran's Station for about three years. The staff is friendly. The food is very good. I especially like the Tortilla Soup on Thursdays. We all have different views on traditional New Mexican food, and I think this is the real deal. Is the food mind glowingly fantastic?. No, but it is very good and time after time it is consistently very good. I should offer a disclaimer, I don't care for Sadies, not my thing, too much food, everything tastes the same and too noisy. I like a family run restaurant that draws a locals crowd. Give it a try, it grows on you! read more

This evening was my first time eating at this restaurant and all things considered I'll say it wasn't horrible but I was hardly impressed, I expected better. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with green chile. The chile on this dish was just way too runny. Every single time I loaded some enchilada onto my fork the chile would just drip down through the fork with the whole experience bordering on messy. The chile on the enchiladas was approaching a soup consistency. Also, the beans were kind of bland. One of the people I was with said this is how they always serve up the beans. The only thing I liked was the salsa that came with the basket of chips and at that the salsa was better than average but not spectacular. And the other thing I didn't like was that mediocre sopas weren't included with the meal, if you want those you have to pay extra. Based on this one experience I doubt I'll be going back. There are a lot of "New Mexican" style Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque that serve much better food and include sopas as part of the meal. I'll just keep going to one of those places. UPDATE: December 29, 2017 This 1-star rating is for the extremely poor choice of carry-out packaging. They use loose fitting styrofoam containers and then place the items in what is essentially a grocery store style paper bag with a handle. Yes, I was advised to be careful but this completely stupid choice of style over function made a mess in my car. Because the styrofoam containers are loose fitting, have no doubts that no matter how careful you are, chile and/or other liquids will spill over and quickly deteriorate the bottom of the paper bag. When I got home the bottom of the bag just fell through and I got chile all over the inside of my car. So Mr. Ghattas, here's a suggestion, DO - NOT - USE - A - PAPER - BAG - FOR - CARRY - OUT - FOOD. It's a completely stupid idea, especially when just about all of the food you serve comes covered with liquid. Use plastic bags. Plastic bags can be tightened down so that the loose fitting styrofoam containers can be held down with enough pressure to keep most potential spillage in check. And here's a better idea. One of your competitors, Los Cuates, uses food containers with lids that can be crimped down. You should do that because if you use plastic bags and the type of food containers that Los Cuates uses you're bound to have a lot less unhappy customers because of easily preventable spillage. This as opposed to using something that comes in a paper bag because someone thought that carry-out food should look like it came from a boutique. read more

When I worked Downtown I remember lots of great lunches at Duran's Pharmacy. Their red chile was the best in town and the homemade tortillas were to die for. I have eaten at this place a few times and while it was never as good as the original I liked it pretty well. Until tonight! The dining room was busy but I found an open table. I decided to order my old standby, cheese enchiladas with red and a hot buttery tortilla. Whie I expected a wait 40 minutes later I got a little irritated when I saw other patrons who arrived after me received their much larger orders. A waitress (not mine) asked if I needed anything else. I replied " only two things, some silverware and my food." It arrived shortly thereafter and it was unfortunately more disappointing than the service. The red chile was tasteless----------unbelievable. I have eaten chile all over this town but I don't recall many joints with product this bad. I don't like to bash hard working businessmen but this joint seems to be relying on reputation not product or service. Sad. read more

Duran's has been around a very long time and I've eaten there countless times. It's always been good, average in price and for the most part, wait staff has been fun. My last meal there was Friday, March 25, 2011 and it was a good NM plate. Those who are making negative comments about water, too much red chile, blah, blah, blah have no idea what real NM food is or are from TX, CA, or back east. How the heck would they know NM food. Horrible customer service! We ordered a chicken burrito with no beans, got the food fairly quickly but it was so spicy hot it burned all the way down. I immediately talked to the waitress who said its the red sauce apoligized and went to get a new one. I got the new one and then realized why they put all the hot sauce on, it was chicken in a tortilla, no flavor at all. Another waitress brought the bill over and told us the owner is charging us for both burittos, "we can't just throw food away because you don't like it". He was no where to be found so we requested our waitress, she came over and said I didn't know he was going to do that. What ever happened to the customer being right? read more

I must have caught them on a bad night, Saturday night. To start off the complimentary chips were stale! I had a combo and everything on my plate was soggy with a very watery sauce. My chili relleno was breaded so thick and deep fried all I could taste was grease and batter. I've had my share of Mexican food and this does need attention and has room for improvement. If the sauce had been rendered down it would make a big difference. My margarita tasted more like a glycerin bowl prep than an actual margarita. In all fairness I'm sure they can deliver some nice dishes, it just wasn't their night. read more

The food was outstanding along with the cheerful servers. My enchilada plate came with beans (homemade) and garnish. I don't know what Andrew was talking about. I asked if I could sub papas instead and again had no problem. The quality was truly the best I've eaten. They also use real plates not the plastic ones at the other cheap Mexican restaurants. I read the menu and a lot of the plates were served with their famous homemade tortilla made right in front of you. Not the paper thin ones at Frontier or the ones pulled out of a plastic bag for a buck. This place is cozy and has outstanding food. I'll always pay a little extra for quality. I am a native ABQ...grown up on the original Duran's pharmacy location...my family still ritually eats there and those family who have moved away look forward to their NM chile fix when visiting. I have now tried the Station location twice in 3 years, most recently yesterday...very unhappy with the service. I agree with the other posters...The wait staff appear too cool for school..I had to greet myself and wait over 15 minutes to receive any attention from the all female staff (-1 male). I was blatantly shown how they can interact appropriately and timely with male patrons. Trying to make eye contact or get any attention from these immature, chatty female personnel was frustrating. I must also add the food is not nearly as good as the cooks at the pharmacy.. Money making and "just a job" for these folks. Interestingly, two other businesses I visited yesterday after my experience, shared similar and unfavorable experiences with the station. Disappointing and I will never return to that location. read more

Our family eats here on a regular basis. We usually have chile served on the side to control the amount of chile, however, the chile flavor is so good. They do not have rice on their menu but do offer a variety of styles of potatoes. My family enjoys the steamed potatoes. We have watched the tortillas being made by hand. Not store bought! Their service, food, desserts, beverages and atmosphere are just what we like when we do not want the hustle/bustle of chain restaurants. read more
