My friend and I stopped here on a cold evening to grab dim sum and ended up going back for more the next day, it was HEAVENLY! Really great dim sum, reasonably priced food, beautiful space and lovely staff. We had the steamed shrimp dumplings, matcha bbq pork buns and the shumai dim sum. All were fantastic and the portions were generous, the shrimp dumplings are THE BEST. For our entrees we had the drunken noodle and pad thai, both with shrimp. This is a cute fun spot near Baruch College/Curry Hill and the food is tasty! I was honestly surprised at how did it was. The matcha buns, steamed rixe rolls and soup dumplings were a highlight. The cheesy seafood tarts were actually terrible! But that is ok, I would go back here. The only issue here is price/value. While you expect to pay more than Chinatown, this place is a double whammy as the portions are also small. If you were just doing dimsum, expect to pay $15-$20pp. Drinks extra. We were in the area to look at something and happened to come by this place. The wifey wanted some pork buns. We got seated and looking through the menu, but the waitress came up to us and said, do you mind moving somewhere else, we have a large party (5). So, we were moved from a sit down table to a barstool. It wasn't so bad, but the chairs were higher. We got the pork buns, they were ok, but not memorable. The shrimp dish was not so good. It wasn't bad. They also only gave out 5-6 shrimps in the dish. I was like... that's it?!?! The highlight of the meal was the hello kitty dessert that we got for free. They gave us 3, which was nice. Definitely liked the things I chose from the House Special section on the menu more, as those selections ended up having more unique flavors that I haven't had at other dim sum places in the city. 1) Lemon BBQ pork buns: standout, very interesting taste, subtle lemon flavor made it something I've never had before 2) Pork soup dumplings: not the best in regards to soup dumplings in nyc but served in individual spoons which was nice. The dumplings were stuck to the spoons which caused the soup dumpling eating process (of drinking the soup first) pretty difficult. 3) Fried lobster dumplings: smaller than I expected, but was my second favorite. From California, have worked at one of the top catering companies in the North Bay Area, and I have to say their customer service was great! They were very friendly, quick with the orders and attentive throughout the meal. I ordered Pad Thai, Shumai, and the soup dumplings. Everything was delicious, but nothing exactly stood out to me to the point where I was like "I need to come back here for this, exactly!" Hence 4 stars instead of 5. The food here is excellent. Each of the different types of dumplings are delicious. The hello kitty bun is adorable although the dough used to make it could use some flavor. The only downside is that the hibachi was the most basic and unexciting I've every seen. They did the standard knife flips, spinning egg, onion volcano, sake, and catching food in the mouth but nothing else. The chef tried to be friendly but was quiet most of the time. I came here because a lot of the reviews said the dim sum was just as good as Flushing/Chinatown. I would have to disagree. The dim sum here is good, don't get me wrong (probably even a 4) but for the price, quality, and experience, I would much rather make my way down to Chinatown if I'm in the mood for dim sum which makes me give this place a 3. What I liked: the sio mai and crystal shrimp dumplings were delicious. They were all freshly steamed. It was almost too hot to eat right away. Their lychee martini was wonderful and not too strong. It included a lychee at the very bottom which I enjoyed. What I didn't like: the lotus wrap had no taste at all. It was supposed to have chicken and bacon in it but it tasted like plain rice. I wish the waitress stopped us from ordering it. Dishes are also $6-7 when you can save about $2-3 in chinatown. What they could work on: the roasted pork bun was soo good. However, they add this extra sweet, glazed layer on top of the bun which then sticks to your teeth. It made it incredibly difficult and annoying to eat. The steamed shrimp roll is my favorite dim sum dish. They prepare it differently here however. They add this crispy element to the bottom of the roll which I wasn't expecting. This is one of the only dim sum places in the area, but it was mediocre at best. We usually go to chinatown to get dim sum, so it's really not fair to compare prices. The pork soup dumplings were good, but the wrap was super thick and one of ours had exploded. The Hello Kitty Buns were really cute, but the texture was dense and the custard was way too liquid. They also forgot to draw on one set of the eyelashes... so it looked funny, lol. Pork buns were tasty, but definitely way too sweet and the bun was bland. The matcha bbq pork was the standout for me, it was delicious bbq pork in basically a matcha flavored melon pan. The breadth of Asian cuisine this restaurant covers is quite impressive, covering different countries like Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Japanese, Singapore, and India. However, with such an ambitious range, it is impossible to be great in everything. To me, some dishes were more successful than others. Dim sum were made with high quality ingredients and executed well. I would have preferred more seasoning, but I understand it is subjective and this would certainly be a good place for someone on a reduced-sodium diet. There was a dipping sauce that was served, but it was more sweet than salty, so it didn't offer much in terms of seasoning. I reckon it was made with diluted sweet soy, which gave it more of a Hokkien/Malaysian flair. Add some some acid and hot sauce and it could really be a fantastic dipping sauce! The chili sauce served was also sweetish, and reminds me of the sweet garlic chili sauce served in Singapore and Malaysia. The Singapore Laksa noodles was the dish that compelled me to check out this restaurant, but unfortunately it missed the mark. The noodles should have been a combination of thick round yellow noodles and thick rice noodles, but instead was the wavy ramen. The combo of those two noodle types would offer contrasting textures of toothy and softness. The rice noodle would also offer a better canvas for the star, which is the curry broth. The broth also lacks the fragrance (lemongrass?) and coconut milk that I associate strongly with Laksa. Order this dish if you are curious about an interpretation of Laksa, but don't expect it to be authentic like you would get in Singapore. The most successful dish I tried is the Oink Oink Fried Rice. It is a modern take on the traditional fried rice, where wild rice is used instead of white rice. The Chinese sausage and duck help season the dish well, while bits of shishito peppers add some kick and herbal notes to form a complex dish. Again, care is evident here, as the fried egg on top is cooked to perfection - still gooey and creamy without being too raw and runny or overcooked. That is hard to do, it is literally seconds from being under to overcooked - impressive cookery here. I chatted with the maitre d on my way out, and apparently the hibachi is the most popular here. This dining experience could have been flawless, but there is an item in the menu called the lotus wrap which is honestly not edible. Let me rewind, this experience was fantastic, the space is nice and conveniently located, and aside from the the noise from hibachi upstairs that bleeds into the background noise of your meal the ambience was great. The servers were quick and attentive, refilling our glasses and clearing the plates. We had a variety of dishes that were delicious, like the shumai, crystal shrimp dumplings, some others that I can't recall, baked roasted pork bun, and the infamous lotus wrap. Almost all the food was great, but a little pricey. The pork buns were especially delicious although somewhat sticky leaving a gunky but tasty residue on the back of your teeth. The lotus wrap however was just less than everything else. It is essentially rice wrapped in this tough stringy leaf that is bland and chewy. That was the only dish that remained unfinished. Found this dim sum place while trying to grab dinner before going to watch a movie at AMC kips bay. This was not the dim sum I imagined I would be eating. Basically you are given a menu and you order what you want instead of the carts like in most dimsum restaurants. Obviously because we are in the city, it was a little pricey for what I got. The shrimp rice rolls were so mediocre compared to my favorite dimsum place. Also had some soup dumplings which were really not that good. The pork ribs were good but they gave you so little. And my friend and I also had the chicken pad Thai because the dimsum portions were so small and overpriced. The pad Thai is nothing spectacular but it left me full. If you do a yelp check in, you get a free order of the hello kitty buns. They were my favorite because they were warm, sweet and filled with custard. Came here on a Sunday afternoon knowing that they have a happy hour on their dim sum menu - they didn't mention it but was pleased to get buy 2 get one free and $7 cocktails. The place is split between a dim sum bar downstairs and hibachi restaurant upstairs. We were just looking for dim sum and basically had the whole place to ourselves - there was maybe one other couple in there. My cocktail, the ginger binger, was a little sickly. My wife enjoyed hers though. We ordered about 4 of the dim sum items to share - very reasonably priced and tasted pretty good. Particular fan of the baked matcha bun and duck puff. My friends and I were seated on the lower level under the staircase. Came for a late night dinner, I've always wanted to try this place out, had it bookmarked forever. The restaurant is beautiful, I came during the week so the restaurant wasn't busy at all, upstairs they offer hibachi but decided to just order small bites so was sat downstairs. I ordered an array of dumplings, fried lobster dumplings, soup dumplings,a baked pork bun, scallion pancakes and an order of Oink Oink fried rice all were delicious but my god!!that rice won me over it was amazingly flavorful. I was really hungry after coming down from Flushing and for some reason craved for dim sum. I remember a dim sum spot that opened somewhat recently so I decided to go there. I ordered a lot and for the most part I was very satisfied. From the order list the first two plates that came was the 'Soup Dumpling with Truffle Oil' and the 'Crystal Shrimp Dumpling'. The soup dumpling was fantastic with the truffle oil. I've never had truffle before but I definitely have had soup dumplings and this is a must try. Good for instagram too . The crystal shrimp dumpling was really good and better than many I've had before. A solid choice in my opinion. Next up were 'Crispy BBQ Duck Puff' and the 'Baked Matcha BBQ Pork Bun'. Wow oh wow is the duck really good and it probably rivals Tim Ho Wan's Chasu Bao. The pork bun was good too but it pales in comparison with the duck, in my opinion. The final plate I had was the 'Crab Rangoon'. This last item was ok but lacked something. I personally think it needs an extra kick, maybe something spicy? Has potential thougb. Food overall is amazing and there is a lot of energy due the resturaunt's habachi upper floor section (which is fine for me). I have come here for dim sum multiple times and I have to say it's a great option in the flatiron area and very reasonably priced. It's obviously going to be more expensive than Chinatown or flushing given the location but for the convenience it's totally worth it. The restaurant is rather spacious so I have never had an issue getting a table for a large party during lunch hours. For dim sum, my favorite items are the matcha pork bun which in my opinion is better than the US Tim Ho Wan. The shrimp dumplings, crispy shrimp rice rolls, lobster dumplings, steamed spare ribs, and lotus wrap sticky rice are my favorites and of good quality and portion size. I will say their shrimp dumplings are even better than Chinatown! I would probably skip the chicken feet as the sauce is not that great and a bit on the bland side. The drinks were quite weak and on the sweet side. But happy hr until 7pm had $8 cocktails, $7wine and sake and $5 beers. The skin was bit thick for soup dumplings and it tended to get stuck to the spoon, tearing and spilling the soup so watch out for that. Otherwise, enjoyed this dish. Steamed rice roll with shrimp: The shrimp was so fresh! Nuff said. Lotus Wrap: Delicious and flavorful. Lemon bun: Nice twist to the original pineapple bun. That being said, this is authentic Cantonese dim sum, despite their advertising there is not much frill. The flavor profile of their dim sum and the very important texture of their wraps was spot on. I want to be fair about my review because we had highs and lows. I'll start on the positives: The food was very tasty and creative. My favorites were the hargow, the xiumai, the soup dumplings (although I don't think ours had gold leaf on them. No matter. Still yummy!), the hello kitty sweet dessert buns (cute and yummy.). There are some reviews saying portions were small. I found the portions pretty normal for dim sum. Our waiter, Shaq, was very attentive, courteous and very accommodating about some diet restrictions in our party. I liked the decor and ambience. Cocktails were tasty. The negatives: Ugggghhhhhh!!!! They lost our reservation and before I could even get upset the manager immediately accused me of calling the wrong number. She then demanded I check my call log so she can see what number I called. My adrenaline was rushing so I made a frazzled attempt at trying to find the number while my family just stood around waiting. She kept telling me I never called their restaurant. I must have called their other restaurant and they had no room for us. I stopped looking and insisted I know I called this restaurant and what am I supposed to do now. She told me it wasn't her problem. I'm now angry and embarrassed because how was I going to explain to my family of 9 on a Saturday night we have to find something else!! So my sister and I tried to get her name because we were going to make a complaint. Sarcastically, I told her she had great customer service. She said thank you. At this point I was so angry, I told her she was so dumb she couldn't even grasp sarcasm. She proceeds to call the "other" restaurant to prove I was wrong. I don't know what was said on the phone, but all of a sudden she starts telling her staff to put together some high top tables in the lounge. I was so livid that If I had been by myself or a smaller group, I would have just left but my mom said that the table was fine. I have managed upscale restaurants for many years and I would NEVER treat my guests that way. If I didn't have their reservation, I would try to accommodate them to the best of my ability. I would never immediately accuse them of not making the reservation and then demand they prove to me they made a reservation!!!! After we were seated, the manager came over and brought complimentary appetizers. We appreciated them. A few days later, I checked my call log and it is the same number that is listed for their restaurant on yelp. (See the screenshots). I just think she could have handled the situation much better. But the price and portion size makes it a bit on the pricey side. So this is more of a 3.5 stars for me. The Soup Dumpling with Truffle Oil was exquisite. I liked it more than the Soup Dumpling with Crab Roe. The Hello Kitty buns were cute and surprisingly delicious too. The egg custard oozing out of the bun was lip-smacking good. The Oink Oink Fried Rice was a bit oily but super tasty. Pan Fried Rice Roll with XO Sauce was very flavorful and had more substance than the other dishes we ordered and not mentioned here. This place takes dim sum to another level! The food is quite delicious, but compared to traditional dim sum the prices were higher. Nonetheless, the prices are fair for the quality. We were seated fast and our food came out timely. Customer service was great and it was a good place to grab uncheck at.
