Craving some fired fish ordered the red snapper and fried shrimp. That fish was season breeded and fried by someone who was born to do it. Golden seasons moist pieces of heaven. Normally when i get fish and chips it those big steak fries and i love them. They didn't have those they were the reg fries. You know when Mickey D's had their old fries and you'd pick limp one out and it would have all that oil jiuice they use to be my favorite. That's how E j fries their fries. The shrimps their jumbos are actually that and fried and seasoned just as well as their fish. The yams i heard were good here also. We called and ordered ahead. Good customer service over the phone and in person def pleasant. The potato salad not my fav i didn't enjoy it. For myself it needed more flavor more mayo . I'm not into sweet potato salad. I don't know HOW this place has four stars. I felt like I was eating from someone's house who I know doesn't take pride in cleanliness and quality. I couldn't do it. Had to throw everything out. The first thing I noticed was my crumbled peices of fish and shrimp on a regular generic brand paper towel. Odd for a restaurant, cool for when I'm frying at the house. It seemed like the food was fried way earlier and just microwaved. No crunch. Soggy. The greens that everyone raved about were tender but sweet and I kept trying to understand why the greens were sweet. Eve lm hot sauce wouldn't cut it. Tartar seemed old and extremely clumpy. I didn't even like the fries. The wheat bread was the only thing that seemed fresh and properly packaged. I don't know. Maybe it's me and not them. I generally try to patronize businesses in the neighborhood! I usually like to cook but today; I'm not giving any passes! I've been here before and I've had some concerns! This time; I'm sitting in my car eating this. I ordered a catfish steak lunch! I open the bag. Instantly; it has a lot of seasoning salt on it! Too much salt! Don't know why they put too much salt on it! Then the fries are not really done! I don't like soft mushy fries! I guess I need to say crispy for the fries too with no salt or very little salt! On a scale of one to ten; fries are a 3! All you taste is salt! Now; for the crispy fish; it is not crispy! In fact when you request for fish to be crispy or well done; the meat should not be wet or borderline not done! I've been through this before and requested for my meat to be cooked through! At any rate; I have to take this home and stick it in my oven to get it done! Yeah I'm disappointed! The salt is literally giving me a headache. The cook really need to take his time and let the food at least get done! Well done mean; cook it! I took a photo. I will try again but I will request specifically, once again, on how I want mine cooked! Taste of the fish was bland! Other than that; no other comment! Had a fish fry for 10 of my friends. Admittedly E & J was not my first option but they're the only one local open on Sundays. I ordered 80 jumbo shrimp and 4 pounds of catfish and 20 wings. Came with A LOT of fries, a lot of hot sauce and tartar sauce as well as a loaf of bread. I was able to get a quote over the phone. The food was soo good. First time there. I was helped by a female cashier she was very pleasant, helpful and gave me a quarter for parking. I had 3x Sole and 9x Shrimp with extra side of MacNCheese. Fish and Shrimp were seasoned very well and cooked just right. Wish the french fries were cooked a bit longer and seasoned better. MacNCheese was surprisingly pretty good. Not a good experience. Drove all the way to Inglewood for some tasty solid and fried fish. Stopped by E&J for the dinner platter: fried snapper, yams, Mac and cheese, and collard greens To start, they have a display of "fresh" fish when you walk into the establishment. I'm not going to lie, the fishy smell was off-putting. I just had to wait about 15 min before my food was packaged and bagged. Before I got home, I wanted to dig in so I can be excited about fully diving in. I was not pleased whatsoever. The Mac and cheese tasted artificial, the collard greens were too bland and vinegar forward, and the yams--burnt and made the styrofoam container melt. My husband and I visited this restaurant mostly during Lent as we observed Fridays during the season. Their catfish is very nice and come out piping hot -- they don't fry until you buy! lol The unfortunate thing for me was that none of the sides were hitting for. We tried the red beans and rice, Mac and cheese, greens, fries, etc... but they were a miss for us. I never know what I want to eat. They offer a variety. They fish, seafood, chicken, BBQ, and waffles. I like that they have a small table with honey buns from back east that reminds me of my childhood. The lady at the register, has a warm face of my past with such a welcoming smile. There's a short black gentleman who's always attentive to the customers, he's even brought my order to my car while I was waiting. Today he had such a nostalgic conversation in the lobby while I was waiting for my order. The cook a young Latin guy, is so attentive, he's starting your order as you're talking to the cashier. The wait is not long the food is cooked to your liking ( salt, no salt). The vibes of the customers are comfortable, genuine, and courtesy. I've been in there maybe 6x times since Dec 2023, and everyime the service is the same. 5 stars. Let me be honest and say that normally I'm good tipper. Since I've been going there, I've been going through something, and I haven't been tipping or not properly. The service has not changed. They pay attention to the customers, and everytime they offer the same wonderful service. The amount of food they offer for the price is well worth the trip, for those who chose not to cook. If I'm correct, I thought I heard someone ordered their food to be grilled. I will be going for grilled on my next visit. If you're in the area of Manchester and Locust try them. They to me are more tastier than "Original Roscoe Chicken and Waffles". I would recommend them to tourists for chicken and Waffles before Roscoe's. Make sure to ask for butter and syrup, that was the one thing I was missing, with my chicken and fish order with added Waffles. The Waffles are soft and tasty. I recommend you order Waffles with the fish, a game changer. I don't know there busiest time, but every time I go there's a wonderful crowd of people with good conversations. Little Gem in the Heart of Inglewood! First of, they are open on Sundays when most of the other Seafood places around the area are closed on Sundays. They have an A Rating and the only reason I mentioned that is that if you are concerned with looks, then this is the wrong place for you. It is not Dirty, it is clean, it just looks old. They are there to provide great food Family Style Service while you wait for your food. Great, food, great people. what more can you ask for. The Mac N Chesse is the best that I've tried in a while! A few blocks from the Forum on the winding section of W. Manchester is a small seafood market and grill owned by a wonderful husband and wife team. For the past three-years they have contributed to the culinary traditions of the Deep South. Tucked in amongst an astonishing number of beauty salons offering extensions on layaway, the bright sign announces a break in the lineup. While there are parking spaces in front the meters only accept coins, so park across the street in the public parking garage. I located E&J Seafood on Yelp, and reasoned it would be a great place to meet Craig Y. before the show featuring Heart, Cheap Trick and Joan Jett. I arrived early and scouted it out. The lovely proprietress greeted me and handed me a paper menu to study. I also asked what kind of fish is Swai? She said it's mild and perfect for fish and chips, and only $5.99! Sold! I just needed Craig to arrive. Shortly before he walked in a really funny guy came in and ordered. He told me that the seasoned fries were the way to go and proceeded to keep the atmosphere light and amicable. Craig placed his bet on a Snapper and Shrimp combo with two sides whilst I went for the recommendation- Swai with seasoned fries. See pics below. Taste: Craig Y. said it evoked Popeyes in how the breading was seasoned (not their spicy recipe), whereas I found it less crunchy than Wood'z where I ate less than two hours prior. The three sizable pieces of fish retained the moisture without a hint of sogginess, which is awesome! Plus, the,seasoned fries were coated and textured with a proper batter, not Lowry's Seasoned Salt like most joints. I couldn't finish all the fries because I ate a bunch across town, but if you're heading to the Forum for any event, give this fine establishment a whirl. The food was BOMB. Customer service was good, every employee greeted me as they noticed I was a customer. Wait time for the food was about 10-15mins (food was freshly fried). About the food: I got the combo 3 catfish filet, 6 shrimp and mac & cheese and ordered the catfish, collard greens and onion rings for my bf. Catfish was good and fresh, falls apart as you hold a piece. Not too salty, the shrimp were a bit more salty but still not too much. Also nice medium sized shrimp. Collard greens, taste homemade, especially when you add a bit of hot sauce (which is included). Mac and cheese not too creamy but has a nice sharp cheedar taste. Onion rings cooked perfectly. I ordered the 5 & 5 which consist of 5 PCs of Catfish ( cooked in chicken batter or with the chicken and not fully cooked but burnt) & 5 Wings (Burnt but not fully cooked as if the heat was to high and cooked the skin faster than the inside) with 2 sides. The 2 sides I ordered collard greens (dry hardly cooked and NO seasoning) and yams but got burnt dried out pinto beans. Plus the 5 pc catfish ( fried with chicken batter or with the chicken grease and not fully cooked) with greens (dry and no seasoning) and yams that were (over cooked and dried out) I'm simply shocked! We weren't disappointed we both ordered the 3 piece catfish steak lunch, which came with a roll and one side, I chose Collard Greens he had French fries (Crinkle cut) Everything was delicious however I would have wanted a little more seasoning in the greens. I got the mac and cheese and it wasn't seasoned at all, not even a little flick of salt, I was very disappointed, I had high hopes for them based off the seafood.
