COVID shut down the New Eagle Cafe but now there's a new owner and they have re-vamped the interior, made it bright and clean. On Fridays and Saturdays there's a one man band for entertainment. With the change comes a new menu. A fairly good selection of local and some Filipino dishes. There was only one waitress and the hostess on the Friday night we dined but the service was friendly. Hope they will be able to add some staff soon. But given the circumstances, understandable. read more

LOCATION: In the nimitz center right when you turn in from the road side. on the far right corner. SETTING: they have indoor seating & no outdoor seating. its super dark too so its really comfortable haha its pretty big. they have restrooms and lots of seats to choose from. you can either dine in or take out. you choose :) FOOD: i got the fish katsu meal. it came with miso soup, rice, salad and my fish katsu. it was soooo good! i loved how they cooked my fish. it was just right where there were no soft spots or even any fishy taste. yes, ive had fish where it tasted like it came straight out of the ocean, yuck! the outside was crunchy which made it even more perfect. my bf got their steak & eggs. he loved it! so much taste. it also came with hashbrowns which cooked till perfection! crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside! The food here is ok. It's nothing to write home about, typical diner food. The hubby got the garlic chicken and I had the fried oyster. Both meals came with a starch and hot vegetables. We both chose the mash potatoes with gravy. The gravy was a little on the salty side. The garlic chicken wasn't bad. When they brought out my plate of fried oysters, there were three pieces on the plate. However, it was the huge oysters and not the little ones that other places serve. They oysters were meaty, yummy and fried to perfection. My friend had ordered their lobster salad and told me about it. That's what I wanted to get originally. I didn't see it on their menu so I asked our waitress about it. She says to me in a condescending tone,"You don't see it on the menu, do you?" I wanted to tell her that restaurants have specials all the time that aren't on the menu. Other than that, she was ok. I'm going to chalk it up to her having a bad day. The classic family friendly dinner lives on at New Eagel Cafe. Here you can still get a complete meal with a drink, side, roll and dessert for a few dollars more. Make sure you come on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays from 6 - 8 pm for the fresh biscuits. They bring them right to your table--smeared with butter and jam, they were the highlight of our dinner. We tried a Chicken Caesar Salad, the Lamb Curry, and the Pier 38 Sandwich (Egg-Battered Mahi, Avocado, and Sprouts) with Fries. Portion wise, everything is huge, two lighter eaters should share. The salad was not a traditional caesar, and had tomato, cucumber, and carrots. The sandwich was hot, not fishy, and pretty tasty with the tartar sauce. The lamb in the lamb curry was tender enough, but the curry tasted like instant Japanese powder. Free parking, good for big families, BYOB with a corkage fee. I was meeting a friend for lunch today, and I was so jonesing for a clubhouse sandwich. I couldn't decide on where I would go to get this clubhouse sandwich, until I thought of a restaurant I haven't been to for a very long time.........I think it's been at least 15 years or so, since I last dined here. When I got there, I really didn't have to check the menu as I knew what I came here for...........did a quick scan of the menu to make sure it was there, & ordered my clubhouse sandwich with the crinkle fries. What can I say about my lunch..........well, the sandwich was just okay for me..........I think the missing element was a few slices of bacon. Doesn't bacon make everything taste better? Especially in a clubhouse sandwich! Yeah, I know the menu description for the clubhouse sandwich stated that it only had the following - ham, turkey, tomato, & lettuce...........but where's the BACON? Lol!!!! Oh well, everyone has their own way of making a clubhouse sandwich, and I guess some people may even like their clubhouse made this way........... As for my crinkle fries...........it was cool to look at, kinda reminded me of the old skool fries............from the local kine drive-inns from back n' da day. But the fries I got was kinda soggy...........I like my crinkle fries crispy on the outside, & soft on the inside when you bite into it.......... We really enjoy dining at New Eagle Cafe. It's a great place to come when you in a no-fuss mood for diner food. I came here on the recommendation of my boyfriend who had been there several times before. I was getting tired of driving out to Anna Miller's and growing sick of Zippy's. I'm glad we made the trip to New Eagle Café, because now we go there several times a month! The prices are reasonable and they have specials daily. The first time we went, we had the prime rib dinner for two which was a fair price. Now I'm stuck on their massive and delicious Chicken Cesar Salad (and for $12, you can't go wrong!) It's made of not only the classic Caesar ingredients, but boiled egg, sliced carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes too. It's a really comforting salad, and if I'm lucky, I'll like the day's soup and order a cup to start. My boyfriend's ordered anything from the roast chicken with gravy and mashed to lamb. I also really like the prime rib sandwich and fries. My boyfriend always orders the meal which comes with soda and a dessert (we almost always split a piece of pie). It's by no means a five-star restaurant, and the service can be classified as "no fuss," but I always enjoy dining here and keep coming back time and again. Haven't been here in years. I bought the living social special. I went with my great aunt to try the lamb curry they have on Tuesdays. It wasn't bad. My aunt was comparing it with the Flamingo lamb curry she liked but can't get since it closed. It was interesting curry. The meat was tender although there were some fatty pieces. My aunt had more meat than I did. We asked for more curry since the sauce was thick. The brown rice they gave us was cold. It's a dark restaurant. We asked to be moved to a booth by the window so we could see our food better. The dark chairs, table, and floors reminded me of the restaurants in their before pictures you see on the Food Channel restaurant make overs. The service wasn't very good. After we were seated promptly we waited with just waters and menus. I had to flag another waitress to call our waiter to order and ask if we could move. They did allow us to move. I was sure if our order was sent to the kitchen since we sat there and no one came with napkins or utensils. I walked up to the cashier at the front door to ask. It was which was a relief. Trying to pay took just as long. I had to go up to the cashier myself to give the living social number. It was weird that the waitress refused to take the information down to adjust our bill. We both had a slice of the pies that are made there. They were very good. We had the apricot and coconut double crust pies. The food needs to be hot and taste better. The service was barely existent although I saw a sign to the wait staff that the customers are first. Maybe the menu is to extensive. We had to mix our curry since it appeared the lamb potatoes and carrots were cooked separately and the cold thick sauce was plopped on and not even mixed.....best thing is the pie. read more

Came in for lunch before an appointment. It wasn't overly busy and we were seated right away. Of course my daughter first thing needs to go potty. The restroom is so nasty. Toilet paper everywhere and very lack of being cleaned. Sit and our order is taken very quickly. I ordered the Pier 34 which is Mahi Mahi, avocado, tomato and alfalfa sprouts. My food comes out very quickly, as a matter of fact, first before my kids. They had ordered wings and the cheeseburgers sliders. I wait because I won't eat without my kids getting their food too. So the burgers come out...she's little and hungry don't want our food to get any colder so we start. We finish our meals and my sons chicken finally comes out. No apology no care and just rushed through. Doesn't check on us once within our meal. Waitress was pushy type, rude and rushed like you aren't even there. Food wasn't good either, kids said its gross and I can't say I was impressed either. Kids even said the guava juice tastes funny. The water was murky, see photo. The dessert that came with the kids meal we had to skip because she took so long. She nicely did put it in a cup to go though, that's the only reason for the extra star here. Since I was around the area, I decided to visit this restaurant for dinner. Seeing all the seniors and locals dining here, I felt like I was in old hawaii again, except for the 0lady's loud cackle right next to us. I could even hear it when I went to the bathroom. It's sad that a lot of restaurants that locals used to frequent shut down, but this one is still standing. French dip sandwich - 3 stars - for about $11, the sandwich was basic and not freshly made. The meat tasted pre-made and dry. However, I liked the au jus and crinkled fries that came with it. Fresh catch of the day - 3 stars - for about $16, the fish was overcooked, but at least fresh. Not a bad dish to order but the mashed potatoes tasted boxed. Overall, I don't think I'll frequent here because I'm trying to find restaurants that do not serve processed foods, which was ok here, but not to my preference. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it's not meant to be. I love local comfort food and was hoping this would be a good breakfast/lunch spot - nope! My family and I had breakfast and our food was terrible! My fried rice was mushy and seemed old which is strange because they only offer fried rice substitute on the weekend. My sons pancakes were a cute shape ( Mickey Mouse) but they tasted weird. The only edible thing was my husbands French toast. It was actually pretty good but with the mushy fried rice, pancakes with an after taste and rubbery sausage it was completely over shadowed. The ketchup bottles were dirty and I just didn't have a good feeling....the only reason it got two stars was the French toast and quick service. First thing we noticed was that there were a couple of severs from long time ago. Second thing we noticed is that the place has been updated - wood floors and the restrooms have a funky decor (very clean, btw). It was breakfast time, so I ordered the Belgium waffle w strawberries combo (1 homemade hamburger patty + egg and orange slices) for $9.95 and the hub had the pancake combo w hamburger patty, egg and orange slices. I tucked into the hamburger patty - I was in heaven!!!! The egg was cooked perfectly and the Belgium waffle had a little bit of crunch! The pancakes (I had to taste!) were fluffy soft. I haven't been to Eagle Cafe in awhile. I always loved coming here for breakfast. I understand they have new owners and I noticed the new menu. My family and I actually had lunch here and were pleasantly surprised with the very local menu that had a lot of Korean and Japanese dishes. The hun got the ox tail soup (special) and I got the sizzling bulgolgi plate with mac salad. Both were very yummy. The kids got the usual kids fare: cheese burger and grilled cheese. Food: food is always amazing i can't complain about that. Service: i can't really say it was amazing, it took our server(sua) about 10-12 minutes to take our order, we kinda felt ignored by her. There was another server who came by to ask if we needed more water or coffee. Our server(sua) only came at the last minute to refill my pepsi and my mother in law's pepsi. While we were leaving she came outside to give me my mothers in laws ipad and she complained about the tip my fiancee had left and came to my car and demanded we fix it because it was too little. Tip means (to improve performance). If we felt like she did a good job then of course we would have tipped. We have no problem tipping if the service is good. But for her to say thats not right is really messed up and i hope she gets talked too about it. Because i know theres people who dont tip at all so i hope she keeps that same energy with people who don't tip. read more

The food here was so so. The salad that comes with the meal is pretty big but it is only lettuce.. no tomatoes or cartots or anything.. The brisket was dry amd had some really tough pieces. The mushroom and onions in the new York steak are delicious but the steak itself had no flavor... All the times ive bren here service was terrible but all the staff is really hard working and i think it is just that they are understaffed. But they do work hard to meet your needs. Only this one lady that started us had a terriable attitude. She spoke to us very rudely like we were a burden to her. We recently met with the grandkids to have lunch on a Sunday. We called first to get up to date info if any needed. We were told this is NOT the old Eagle Cafe from before, it's now two Restaurants menus blended together. They made sure we were told the old Japanese menu is no more. There were a lot of choices- grand kids enjoyed Saimin, Fried calamari, sizzling hamburger steak, club sandwich, steak, prime rib for my husband and I had mahi mahi which was delicious!! I did miss the old jello cream cheese dessert that the original place had. They had ice cream for the kids and my husband had Apple pie à la mode. They help was friendly and helpful! If I had to say anything that needed improvement it was that everything had to pass through the kitchen staff and was slower considering the place wasn't busy while we were there. Before the girls out front could bring you minor/ easy stuff. We will try it again with some different choices as I said the menu has changed! read more

First time here with my fam. It's bigger than what I expected. Located on Nimitz highway, and there is parking in the front. I definitely noticed that this place is for all the older folks. Lol! No wonder it's my grandparents favorite! I think it's good for family too. They have lots of food option. I heard their corn beef is good. I tried there spicy pork today and it was okay. It definitely did not look like the Korean restaurant. The meat was so small and not full if I make any sense.. but it was ok! It wasn't spicy at all. Service was good! They weren't very alert even if it was not as busy. We did have to ask for extra water, extra rice, takeout box, check, but not a big biggie. Overall, personally I would only come here because my grandparents do. If it was for me or to go dinner with friends, this is not the place. read more

Well, my wife and I couldn't decide on a restaurant for breakfast so we decided on giving New Eagle Cafe another shot. We had to ask for water refills, coffee refills, take out containers and the check. You would think that after asking for containers to take home leftovers they would automatically give us the check, but no, it took us another 10 minutes to flag our server down. The last time I came here I Yelped on how slow the service is and things haven't changed. But, on the plus side was that our breakfast was really delicious. My wife had the Belgium waffle special that came with eggs and ham. I had the loco moco and it was absolutely delicious, maybe my new favorite. That hamburger patty was homemade and juicy, the gravy was pretty good too. A side of Mac salad would have been nice though. read more

Upon arriving it was very crowded which sometimes means "very good". Ate in here a few times in the past six months. Today, we had breakfast with my granddaughter and she ordered Little Hotcakes with strawberries which arrived with no strawberries. The Little hotcakes was raw batter on the inside so we returned it and did not want a replacement. The older Asian waitress, I thought, was very rude to my wife. We ate mini Loco Moco's there before and it was very delicious. Asian waitress insisted that they don't have a mini loco Moco and she said to my wife, "look at the menu...it's not there. Then later on says "oh we changed the menu". She was a bit cocky as we noticed before. I gave her my credit card she came back with the slip (receipt?) and my credit card. Now, we're walking out she yells across the entire restaurant, "you didn't pay your bill!" I said, "You gave me back my credit card and gave me a receipt so I paid. I walked up to the register she looks at it and said, " oh I forgot." She's just a dummy. And, embarrassed me in front of the whole freaking restaurant! Great local food at great price. The menu has local food, including Asian dishes. There are plenty of tables so the wait time is minimal. Most times you walk in and get a table right away. There are enough parking in front. If not you can always go to the parking structure. This restaurant can accommodate large groups. When you walk in, the staff was really nice and they sat us fairly quickly each time we're gone for breakfast. I always go back to get the Kamaboko Omlete which is the bomb. I love me some Kamaboko and when I saw that as an omlete I had to try it and I love it. The food doesn't take too long to come out. The omlete comes with hash browns and they're very good too. Pricing is average ranging anywhere from about $9 to about $18 depending on what you get. The staff kept our coffees full throughout the whole time and never had to really wait for anything. I remcomened going on Sat and Sun because you can get fried rice rather than white rice. Overall, I like New Eagle Cafe and I'm always wanting to go for breakfast if I'm in the area. read more
