The price for food now a days is crazy so I traditionally save going out to lunch as a once per week treat so I was a little disappointed in what I got for the cost I paid. Came here for the first time tonight and the food is phenomenal! Ordered the chicken kabob and gyro plate-just enough food to fill you up. Not one single thing left on our plates. Eagle's restaraunt is a small hot dog/gyro/burger joint located off of Maple avenue in Downers Grove. They have a fairly decent sized parking lot and a decent amount of seating inside. In visiting Eagle Restaurant I decided to try the hot dog. The hot dog I received came on a regular non-poppy seed bun. The bun was soft with no signs of dryness, but was rather wet. The frank itself was a skinless sausage, it was heated fairly well. Celery salt was visible on the dog, the peppers weren't too hot and the onions were well applied. The big problem here starts with the mustard and relish, there was just way too much of both of them created a soggy hot dog experience. The pickle used was way too thick rivaling the length and circumference of the sausage itself. The unbalanced condiment application here is particularly bad, this really threw off the entire taste of the hot dog. The problem here wasn't the ingredients themselves, simply the preparation. I can't comment on their other food, but this hot dog earns only one star. While it's not the worst Chicago-style hot dog I've found at a restaurant, it was in the bottom tier. read more

This place is awesome. I believe it has just changed owners, so I hope all stays the same. Food is typical fried foods (hamburgers, dogs, fish) but they also have homemade soup. Prices are incredibly cheap. Great kids menu too. You order from the counter and they call your name to pick it up. Clean with enough seats for maybe 40 people. They serve beer also. The new owner is a little rough around the edges, but I'm sure he'll warm up in time. Definitely good for a quick bite, or cheap family meal. read more

While their customer service wasn't above and beyond, they at least understand the concept of making customers happy and putting customers first during ordering/serving. I stopped by for a large order of cheese fries on a Monday evening and besides being delicious, I was impressed that my fries were quickly made to order. The cooks on duty even asked me if my freshly made fries were cooked enough. I told them I wanted them a bit crispier and there was no problem, no attitude, no snide looks - just simply made my fries crispier. Other restaurants need to take a lesson in customer service 101 from these folks. Hey for a burger or gyro, they do a nice job here. I could do without the White Sox caps on the crew, but that is me. They are a nice and talkative group despite that short-coming. Gyros are good here, they don't rock like Gyro King but are really tasty. My daughter enjoyed the Maxwell Polish and fries. They do a really nice job with the simple stuff, I am a fan. For what they are trying to be - a neighborhood hotdog/gyros/hamburger stand - they do a great job. I love the gyros and fries and never order anything else at this point. My wife and I usually buy a extra pita serving and split the gyro. The Homemade Soups "by Tasso" are surprisingly good - I'm partial to the Chicken Noodle soup. We go here every other month or so as a guilty pleasure. I have been going here for almost 30 years and have never had a bad experience. We usually do take out. Inside seating is your basic serviceable hard plastic tables and chairs found in most hotdog stands. read more

I looked at the specials and they wanted almost $10 for a Gyros fry and a drink. The burger that they served me was overcooked and my bun was stale as can be. Took one bite and my bun completely fell apart. Eagle Restaurant served a solid gyros sandwich to me at Sunday lunchtime. The meat was perhaps slightly dry, but the condiments underneath compensated. The large order of fries I added were completely pedestrian but were indisputably LARGE. They were shoestring sized and undoubtedly frozen. I've read reports that you can order them extra crispy, so that may be worth a shot. The main dining area was of a decent size and impeccably clean. Prices seemed a little high to me. Perhaps my gyros sandwich and large fries could have been a dollar or two cheaper. I visited this hotdog soup place again and sadly nothing has changed. Their hotdogs, which is supposed to be their big draw were tough again. You can barely bite into them with out the hot dog falling out of the bun. I like this restaurant, the food is tasty and the counter service is better than at similar restaurants. The prices are also reasonable, making this a great lunch/dinner in a pinch place. My favorite thing to order here is a cheeseburger...I love that I can pick my cheese, the burger is juicy, and it's a huge sandwich, very yummy! The inside of the restaurant is nice, clean, and spacious. Also, I'm pretty sure their granite counters are the same ones we have in our kitchen at home, good taste!! Heck, the owner already knows my order before I place it! I would say that for a ma and pa fast food joint, the food is good. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff is cool! I had a cheeseburger, it was a little undercooked for my liking but over all was good, there fries where very crisp which is always nice, my wife had the gyro, it could have had more meat for the price you pay. Food was average and the ketchup at the table tasted old. I am a long time Eagle Restaurant fan, but had to give an extra review after really enjoying their Pepper and Egg sandwich on Friday night. While only available for a limited time, I highly recommend trying one while you can. They make the sandwich to order and I have mine with Feta Cheese mixed in and then have it served on their wonderful Pretzel buns. Tasty and very filling, especially when combined with Eagle's excellent fries, which we order extra crispy. read more

One of my favorite comfort food restaurants and I generally stop by several times a month. Plenty of options on the menu, but I usually order their Jumbo Shrimp Plate dinner because of the quality of the shrimp. Soups are good as well. You can dine in or take out. Only negative would be that their dining room can be a bit noisy at times but that doesn't seem to be particularly unusual for restaurants these days. read more

I live right down the road and have been coming here once every couple of months for a gyro. Some of the best I've had in recent memory and dude makes them with all the toppings on the bottom of the meat so everything isn't falling all over the place as you eat it. After reading the other reviews here I think I'll have to try a few other items as it looks like they actually give a shit about what they serve here.
