Found the Eagles Nest through Yelp! The lobster roll was the best we had in Maine. Hack: if you plan on sharing, order it as-is. When you ask for two buns, the portion size of lobster appeared much smaller and was served in a small bowl. It was still generous, but definitely more lobster comes in the single bun to make it look full (did not take a picture of the portion size on the two bun lobster roll me, but trust me on it). The one downfall is some sides like the green beans and the mashed potatoes come out of a can. I'd suggest sticking with the fries and slaw. Tartar sauce was nothing special but not offensive (it was fine to average). Service was good! We came back a second time and we were remembered, which is a nice touch. The location on the river sure had promise... A small cute little diner, sounded great. Called to see if they were open and if they took reservations. Was told no reservations needed and that they stopped setting 1/2 hour prior to close. We arrived and put our names in and waited outside. The greater / server stepped outside several times to say that they were out of some items. The crows thinned. We were called to get inside, out of order and another party was told they were next after us. We exchanged pleasantries and we said they should go first. The greater said no and the other party told us to go in. She was very rude to everyone and "salty"... The ice tea was great! Ordered dinner and was told they were out of some other items that we had ordered. Made second try and was told out of that too. Made third try and was told ok. Meal arrived and it was cold and the salmon was terrible (cold overdone and bland). My bride had the haddock and it was great (we shared it) and left the salmon to age gracefully on the plate along with cold corn, mashed potatoes and gravy). The server had left to make a call (the staff in the kitchen laughed and told them her to say hello to her cigarette). The chef (maybe owner) seemed like a great guy...he jumped in and started getting food to all the tables. We finished our meal and left to try to enjoy the rest of our evening. Flew into Bangor on our trip to Acadia this past fall and decided to try this place before driving to Bar Harbor. The service was very good and the view from the small dining room is incredible. I can't say enough GOOD things about this place. They may be known for their lobster rolls, but I go there for the Fish Fry !! The fried haddock is cooked to perfection, as are the fries. You can taste that the oil is not old (which is an issue for some places). The folks there are always friendly. Don't leave without getting dessert to go (since I'm assuming you'll be too full to eat it there). They have many options, my personal favorite is the chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting!! They are consistently good, which is an issue for many places where you'll have a good meal, and maybe not another time. This tiny restaurant puts out enormous plates of food. I had a lobster roll today, claw meat and chunks of knuckle, light mayo on toasted hotdog bun. The Maine way! It was very good, the fries were hot and crunchy, the cole slaw was cold and crunchy. (I was so full from the lobster I couldn't finish my sides. Priorities.) I heard others being offered an extra bun with the lobster roll, there is enough for two. I saw platters of sea food which looked delicious, I will return to try that soon. We've had so many good meals during our week long trip to Maine that it's hard to pick a favorite, but this one is it! Eagles Nest in Brewer, ME just outside of Bangor had the best Lobster Roll we've ever had. The portions were ridiculously large and in fact one lobster roll is really enough for two people, they will even let you order an extra roll so you can split it. We didn't realize that until after we ordered, but for $33.99 for a lobster roll with gigantic pieces of lobster it was well worth every penny. I swear each roll had a full lobster on it and had just a light coating of mayonnaise. They make them to order so you can ask for it however you'd like. Everything that we saw come out of the kitchen, including the desserts looked delicious. It's a small little restaurant that overlooks the Penobscot river and the staff here is extremely friendly and wants you to have a great experience. They've been serving up lobster for 80 years and clearly they know what they're doing. Do not miss this place! It's worth the drive.... read more

This little hole in the wall, don't blink or you'll miss it, if you hit Day Rd (when headed East) you've gone too far, dive of a lobstah shack is a must needs visit when in Bangor! I don't even remember how we heard about this, but I am glad we did!! I literally ordered one of everything that had lobster in it. Lobster roll, lobster salad, lobster stew, lobster grilled cheese, & lobster mac & cheese! When you walk in you feel like you've just entered Nana's kitchen, but oh, boy do they know how to cook some lobster!! Again, Mr. non-seafood eater had a burger, so I won't bore you with those details, but on everything I ordered TONS of lobster. And who knew lobster knuckles were SO GOOD????? Wonderful lobster rolls!! Very small restaurant, but the size and amount of the lobster in the rolls make up for it. My hubby and I both had to eat some lobster out of the roll before picking up the sandwich because there was so much inside. It cost $33 for one sandwich, but is so worth it. Just know that they only let so many diners it at a time, so we had to wait in our car until they called us in but service was very quick. Liked this place enough that I went there on back-to-back evenings! The seafood platters are huge... split one with the wife and still took home a box full! First-rate for seafood, especially for takeaway as the interior of the restaurant is pretty small. The fried haddock platter is outstanding, with a very light crust and the slabs of haddock were perfectly done. The lobster roll is very special as well, with loads of picked lobster meat (tail, claw, and knuckle). Truth is, the "roll" is there almost as an afterthought, it is litter smothered in lobster meat to where it is almost lost under it all. And something has to be said for the fries - these were beyond perfect, close to being the best fries I have ever eaten. An amazing little place, highly recommended. read more

I visited here for dinner several months ago; I found it memorable enough that I made a point of returning recently.  I'm glad I did, as the 1st time around I haadn't noticed the exceptional view that I very much enjoyed this time :-) Tip: Apart from the lovely view of the Penobscot River, the ambiance here isn't anything worth writing home about, it's more of a hidden gem/hole-in-the-wall kind of place.  That said, the quality of the food and the service makes this place very much worth seeking out. I throughly enjoyed the food here; there's nothing we tried on either visit that was anything but excellent.  This time out, the item that sticks in my memory most fondly is the Lobster Grilled Cheese.   This Bad Boy is totally loaded down with delicious lobster; the flavor is to die for!  We also enjoyed the Lobster Stew Bowl, which was equally loaded with fresh and delicious lobster.  On the non-seafood front, the Steak Grinder was nicely seasoned, hot, fresh, and flavorful; it's served with a generous portion of hot, crispy fries that are perfectly salted and instantly addictive ;-) I'm really glad I took the time to return to the Eagle's Nest, and have no trouble recommending it to anyone looking for some truly delicious seafood in a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere great service and very reasonable prices. read more

This was my second visit with friends to the Eagles Nest. Sadly, it wasn't positive. Both times we ordered the seafood platter to share, this time the scallops were rancid, and I found out when I took a bite. I quietly called the waitress over, who told me they were fine, but both of us knew it was not. My first visit last year was a showstopper, big pile of seafood to share, and a cute place with a view. This one was handled poorly. Seafood, like dairy, lets you know when its no longer good. Even fried, the smell was enough for anyone to notice. The waitress offered a free dessert, then gave us the wrong one. Having spoiled food ruined the night. My friend visit is over, but I continue to hear about the bad food we had... not the experience I was hoping for. Never again. read more

I stopped in Bangor for the night on my way to Acadia. I wanted a true lobster roll from Maine as the ones I've had in Massachusetts have always been underwhelming. After looking at the menu, I was stuck between the lobster roll and lobster grilled cheese. I was a little worried to ask as I figured they'd just offer the most expensive but the waitress explained the lobster roll had more meat. And it did not disappoint! There was meat left over that spilled from the sandwich and the fries were absolutely delicious. I could not have asked for a better view while enjoying my food either. The waitress respected my time and space, checking in at the appropriate times, noticing when I was low on items and casually dropping them off. Great food!!! Lobster roll was packed and lightly dressed with mayo or you can choose hot with melted butter. French fries dressed, crunchy and hot. The fried haddock sandwich was two filets of fresh deliciousness. This place is smaller than a hole in the wall. I drove past it, made a u-turn and almost drove past it again. It wasnt what I was expecting. When I walked inside the greeting was very casual. "Hey, just have a seat wherever!!" So I did. I was directed to the menu and market price list at the end of the table. $31 for a Lobster Roll!!! I thought, oh man thats expensive, but its part of the experience, right?? And when am I ever going to be in Maine again. Ok, I only live once, do it! OMG!!! Ok, this was a cold lobster roll, tossed lightly in a little mayo. It came with fries and, in my opinion, some of the best coleslaw ever!! Let's start with the lobster roll! The lobster roll had so much lobster meat on it I could barely see the bread! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The taste of the lobster was subtle and sweet. I had to add tobacco because I like it hot. This was only my second lobster roll ever. The first being in San Diego. In my opinion this one was considerably better than the other one. With real Maine lobster (I assume). I went to another place the next day based on their reviews. I drove about an hour each way to get there. I stood in line and went through a very convoluted ordering process - I wanted to tell the guy "It's not rocket surgery man!!". Anyway, the Eagles Nest blew that other place away. On to the coleslaw. The coleslaw was fresh and crispy. It had a different flavor that I couldn't place. The flavor prompted me to ask the server about it. He said that they added pineapple juice to it, but I dont think that was it. The fries were hot, fresh, crispy and delicious. They weren't from fresh potatoes, but thats ok. I loved them and they were plentiful. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely come back, if I ever get back to Maine!! read more

With the price of lobsters always hovering around 10 bucks retail and 6.50 bucks wholesale, to order a bowl of lobster chowder for 38 bucks is just outrageous and just price gouging. So thiers nothing to see here except a has-been good site that is now nothing but a massive tourist trap. I warned you. Again don't be fooled it's a 3 to 1 ratio and when they get thier lobsters at thier discount rate it's still a steal for them and when you hear buzz words like " it's going up due to shortages they just want more money.
