We went for breakfast being that we are camping at Silver Lake Resort. I had the Silver Lake Special that had 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, & 3 sausages. The pancakes were very good, my eggs came exactly how I order over medium, and the sausageswere very tastybut not too salty. My wife had the Chile Relleno with 2 eggs and country potatoes. She said it was the best relleno. Service was super fast and friendly offering refills of coffee and tea. The decor is like a cozy cabin; warm and inviting. We've been coming to Mammoth and June Lake for 30 years, but typically take our sandwich out on the trail with us and don't eat out. Last year, we decided to come for breakfast because we heard their pancakes were really good. Unfortunately, due to the wait, we didn't get a table until noon and they stop serving breakfast at noon. Lunch was good, but we were looking for pancakes. Today, we arrived at 11:15 AM on a Friday and the line was quite short. We were seated pretty quickly and our server was Kim who was nice and efficient. We offered breakfast for lighter eaters, which included two pancakes, one egg, two bacon or sausage, sausages, and a piece of watermelon. We were surprised how quickly the food came out, and under 10 minutes. The coffee was pretty good for diner coffee - not too strong or bitter. The watermelon was nice, the sausage was good, but we preferred the bacon, the eggs were cooked nicely, and the buttermilk pancakes were very good. We're very happy that they have a smaller size breakfast for those of us who are lighter eaters. We enjoyed and ate every bite! read more

Loved our breakfast at Silver Lake Resort Cafe! It's tiny so there can be a bit of a wait but it's well worth it. The staff offered mimosas or code even to sip on while you wait! The resort itself is beautiful and has views of Silver Lake, and the general store has fun little gifts and things to look at. Once we got a table, the service was top notch! We were to rendezvous with family--heroes of the Pacific Crest Trail--on their descent through Rush Creek. But first... we required sustenance. Not the kind you find in vacuum-sealed wrappers or continental breakfasts. No. Real sustenance. The kind old prospectors wrote songs about. The kind whispered through pine needles and carried on trout-scented breezes. We arrived at The Silver Lake Café, that timeless shack of warmth and breakfast potatoes, attached like a memory to the legendary Silver Lake Resort. It is small, charmingly so. Walls lined with black-and-white photos of men in waders and women with bouffants and pancakes. A sawblade on the wall. A taxidermy trout mounted with reverence. There is always a wait. And that is exactly how it should be. I, playing it safe, ordered the oatmeal--a monk's dish for a father who knew he'd be stealing from his children's plates. And oh, what glorious theft. * My daughter's plate--eggs and bacon, sure. But the potatoes. My God, the potatoes. Roasted to a kind of rustic perfection only achievable by either divine intervention or a woman named Doris in the back kitchen who's been here since 1973. * My son's plate, identical but with a side of salsa that could convert the most hardened cynic into a sunrise poet. * My wife, wise as ever, ordered the Jones Boys Special--a pile of protein so profound it could fuel a lumberjack through a blizzard. Ham steak, sausage, bacon, eggs, and yes, those potatoes again--this time blushing under a fresh crack of pepper. Service was nice and quick. Food came out quickly and was a good portion for the price. Standard American breakfast and lunch. Hearty filling meals. I loved the fries so much! They were crispy and seasoned well. I sat at the bar with my husband both times (breakfast then lunch a few days later) as the place gets busy. We put our name on waiting list twice. We enjoyed our meals- fisherman's platter with sausage and veggie omelette for breakfast and grilled chicken sandwich and veggie sandwich for lunch. Great little spot whether you are camping near the lake of enjoying a day of fishing. I got there late but luckily they have Breakfast Burritos and hot coffee ready to go in their Grab-n-Go box. This is a real small cafe inside the general store. To get seated (tables or counter) or to place to go orders, you write your name on a list and they call you in order. The food comes out fast and it is GOOD. I had biscuits and gravy and my spouse had French toast. It was busy but tables turned over quickly. People seemed to be aware of the limited space and didn't linger. If you want a place to sit and drink coffee all morning, I would suggest going someplace else. Was it worth the wait to come here?? Yes, yes, and YES! We came here after eating a mediocre breakfast at another cafe the previous day. This place more than made up for it. Apparently, Silver Lake cafe has been around for years, and I had just heard of it. Delicious breakfast here, with lots of varieties and super fresh! The quality of food here is top notch considering the location. The ambience is relaxing, you get a nice view of the lake and service is fast and efficient. We have a tradition of going to Silver Lake Resort for breakfast the day before we leave our cabin which is on Silver. They are known for the breakfast which is good. There can be a wait, today we got there at 8;00 am and no one was waiting so we got right in. They also serve lunch which is very good. The have pictures from on the walls from when they open. Lots of large trout displayed on the walls. They have a great grocery store, fishing items, gift items etc. Behind the resort is a good sized pond with large trout and ducks that kids can feed. The resort has containers of fish and duck food for $1.00. read more

Disappointed with the service. Gentleman seating everyone could improve his customer service. We arrived a few minutes before noon to order take out. Told us we had to wait until noon to order and we said no problem. Noon came and he just ignored us and refused to acknowledge us when we tried to get his attention. Drove to this quaint little restaurant after spending the morning on June lake. We walked through the country store and saw the neon glow of the cafe sign in the back right corner. We put our name on the little yellow slip of paper and waited. This place was in high demand and seemed to be a local hangout. Our timing must have been bad bc we waited for about 45 minutes before they had a spot for us. We sat by the window with a view of the trees and lake. I ordered the tuna melt which was good but a little heavy on the Mayo. Salad came with cheddar cheese which I thought was a little weird but tasted ok. Overall I'd say this place is worth a visit for the small town feel of the place and decent food. It felt like going back in time. The only downside was the wait, so get their early. read more

My wife and I stopped here for lunch during our outing on the beautiful June Lake Loop. We always knew about Silver Lake Resort but never knew they had a cafe open for breakfast and lunch. We arrived at a bit of an awkward time in between breakfast and lunch. The interior of the cafe and its kitchen are small, so it was quite the wait for them to switch over to lunch service. In the meantime, I ordered a beer and chilled out. I ordered the French Dip sandwich (minus the onions) and loved it! For $12 bucks, the portion size was more than expected. You're given a generous amount of meat (I went with beef) and a decent sized cup of Au jus. The side of fries were perfectly crisp and well seasoned. While the food was fantastic, the service was just so-so. Nobody was rude, but I didn't find the wait staff all that friendly either. It could've just been an off-day, who knows. Either way, I'll still eventually return to give their breakfast a try and perhaps even rent a cabin for the weekend. read more

Excellent little cafe in a great spot and an unbelievable view of Silver Lake. I love the ambience in this little mountain cafe. The breakfast is solid! We went there every morning for breakfast during a stay in the RV park. The service was very good. Kim waited on us 3 of the 4 days and the other waiter was also good. Both were very friendly and attentive. Coffee is hot and the pancakes are really good! Not one bad meal any of the visits. This place hits the spot. It's small and unassuming, but the staff are friendly, and the staff have a good rhythm so you're never waiting long. The prices are great, and You can also order food to go. There is outside seating with a nice view of the lake, and a little river. They have a something for everyone. We ordered the farmer and the miner breakfast, and both were perfect. I'm picky about sausage gravy, this one had just enough meat and wasn't too salty, also very creamy not gritty.
