I got the Hot Bird and really enjoyed the cowboy candy (sweet pickled jalapeños), which added a great sweet/spicy contrast. Zak went for the Smothered Bird and was very happy with it. I tried a bite and the gravy was the standout for me. The andouille sausage gives it a nice smoky depth without completely taking over. The biscuit is comically large, but luckily it's not just a vehicle for the fillings. It's rich, buttery, and actually has that soft, moist buttermilk texture you want. The chicken was equally impressive with a seriously crunchy coating. Basically, if you've been sleeping on the ground and eating camping food for a few days, this is the kind of meal that reminds you civilization has its perks. We were excited to try a new place on Father's Day, and based on the reviews, we had high expectations. We ordered the Cajun catfish biscuit sandwich and some beignets. The catfish itself was moist and delicious, but the coating was very salty and heavy for my taste. The biscuit was also quite dense, and the combination of the thick coating and biscuit overpowered the fish. It ended up tasting more like a batter-and-biscuit sandwich with just a hint of catfish. The beignets, however, were wonderful! We especially loved the butterscotch sauce. The beans are excellent. I personally don't care for the taste of dill in food. To me it overpowers the other taste. That was true for the Corn salad for me. My husband loved it. It is obviously good, must not for me. My husband had the Cajun Catfish combo and it was excellent in his words. Great seasoning, great crispy texture. We chose the cherry lemonade for a drink. It is tart, but that leaves room, if you desire sweeter to add your own sugar. The really good thing is that you don't have to get overpoweringly sweet lemonade. It is very good. The reason for my lower rating is the iced tea. Tea containers must be thoroughly cleaned every day or they develop this taste. Because so many places have that "taste" I've learned to test teas. Usually, sweet tea won't have it, but often regular tea does in these fast food serve yourself type places. Their tea here was awful. Everything else I would highly recommend. Well, I'm not real sure where to start. We were visiting Mammoth and were excited to see the new Bird and the Biscuit. We love to try new places! And as a plus, my husband is from the south and was excited to try some of the items on the menu. He asked about their spicy chicken, which they confirmed, but when he got the sandwich, he said it was pretty tasteless. The habanero, that he had put on the side, should have been illegal it was so intensely hot (and he loves hot things!). The young lady who waited on us was clearly distracted. She kept rolling her eyes and digging audibly when I asked about the different gravies. It was clear that you guys are very proud of your menu with all of the French words. The biscuits were dried out and crumbly so it was tough to enjoy the sandwiches. I only ate about a third of mine. We both agreed that chicken was tasteless. Hubby was excited to get the collard greens, but he couldn't even eat them because they were so cooked down and terribly soggy and too sweet (?). I had ordered the "creamy coleslaw" with mine, but there was so much pepper it was unbelievable and I couldn't eat it. I asked if I could get a different side and was given a very dirty look. They did give me the mac and cheese and it was actually amazing! I ordered a side of baked beans and was shocked at how tiny it was for $3! I've never known anyone in the South to make baked beans with pintos and neither my husband or I were able to eat them. Overall, we were incredibly bummed!! I came in to place an order to go for breakfast. I took a look at the menu and the prices seemed really reasonable. I ordered the Breakfast Basic because it was $10 on the menu and had some really yummy ingredients. When I initially came in, I told the girl at the front who was kind of a heavy set lady and had kind of reddish orange dyed hair, that I wasn't even from the area and lived about five hours away and I told her where I was from. She nicely told me about some areas I could drive around to check out the scenery where I could eat my food. She told me that the sandwich included two sides, and I was surprised and ordered the collard greens and baked beans. She also handed me a plastic cup and I was surprised it came with a drink. Then I also ordered a side of cornbread because I love cornbread. When she brought out my food, it was on a tray, and I told her nicely that it was supposed to be to go. She apologized and then put everything in a box and that was it. I opened the box just to make sure my cornbread was in there because it didn't seem like it was when she handed me my order on the tray in the first place. I quickly told her that the cornbread wasn't in there, and she said she didn't get that in my order. I was surprised because I saw her acknowledge me when I ordered it and she made a comment about it and put it in the system. I told her that I thought the total was about $18 because I ordered the $10 sandwich, plus the cornbread, which was five dollars, plus I gave her a 20% tip. Then she told me that the combo is about $18 on its own, yet I never even ordered a combo. So she snuck the whole thing into my order and purposely made it a combo since she knew I was from out of town, when I never even ordered a combo. I don't appreciate when businesses do this and I think it's wrong to treat the customer this way just because they are from out of town. She purposely made my order a combo so that I would have to pay more money, and didn't even take my order correctly. When I realized she did all this to me, I decided not to order the cornbread anyway, and she seemed disappointed. You picked the wrong girl and you're not going to nickel and dime me and give me that disgusting service. I'm very very very disappointed with the Bird and Biscuit because I never expected that sort of treatment. Now I know to avoid this establishment and I would watch out for a heavyset lady that has reddish orange dyed hair at the front counter because she's out to make more money for the business and out to swindle the customer. In the end, she also didn't give me a fork or any set of napkins with utensils and I took it to go. Thank goodness I had a plastic fork in my car. So we came back on our way home the next morning and ordered the breakfast sandwiches. 4 of the same, all with bacon. Thought it was hearty and was a great breakfast to go. Biscuits aren't the traditional southern style I expected. They were bun like, but had a biscuit texture, and the egg happened to be overcooked and chewy. Bacon disbursement wasn't consistent, thought it would be better off with several half pieces versus two pieces in an X, which just stuck out the sides awkwardly. Just a suggestion.
