Made a reservation a few months ago through OpenTable for my birthday last night. I had to make several changes and whoever I was communicating with via email was very friendly. We even had to make a change about an hour before the reservation and they were very accommodating. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers for the table, including ants on a log (my fav), chicken and shiitake potstickers (also a fav), oysters Rockefeller, and a few deviled eggs. Absolute perfection. Highly recommend! We went early and hardly anyone was there and by the time we left it was busy on a Thursday night. 1st parking.....a little tricky. BUT they do have about 8 passes for the condos next door. You have to run in, they give you a pass and you park. 1st come, 1st serve. Otherwise it's street or garage parking. It's not a perfect situation for someone that has trouble walking.....just keep that in mind. The restaurant is small with a patio and a room that is now a bar. I didn't even know they had a bar....it's in it's own room. Very cute. We were sat immediately and had the nicest waitress, Coral. We started with the Crab Stack which was on the specials menu. My friend had the Crispy Rice Paper Halibut. I went off the rails and had the Iron Seared Filet of Beef. They also started us with HOMEMADE focaccia bread and butter. EVERYTHING was perfection! My filet was perfectly cooked at medium. The sauce with the Halibut was out of this world and I wanted to drink it with a straw. The crab stack was the perfect way to start the meal. Been coming here for years now and it never fails. Nice little quiet restaurant at the northern end of the boardwalk with a small menu. The ants on a log (basil fed escargot and bone marrow) is always in my line up. The Mrs. Had the filet while I tried their soft shell crab with Vietnamese noodles. We were fresh from an unproductive day of whale watching and there weren't a lot of options in Virginia Beach the first week of January. We happened to pass by Eat in its awkward location, perched on a corner between hotels with no obvious parking . I dropped off my wife and parked a couple of blocks away. When I made my way back she had ordered gochujang wings, French onion soup, and pomme frittes. The menu is not extensive but it is well represented with items like kaffir lime and coconut curry halibut, a Hasselhof burger (Wagyu and chuck), and a daily special of paella (allow 45 minutes, of course). We ordered a bottle of Super Tuscan red wine and dug in to the appetizers. They were all delicious. The soup was rich and flavorful and didn't taste like the typical boiler-plate French onion soup. There were layers of flavor that kept popping. The gochujang wings were masterful. They were nestled in a gravity defying stack and drizzled with sauce, scallions, and toasted black sesame seeds. Their texture was perfectly crispy outside and delightfully tender inside. The pomme frittes were thin sliced, fried to perfection, dusted with a nice zesty paprika, and served with a savory aioli. We ate every last one. At this point, we decided to forgo mains as we didn't think we had room. We continued drinking our wine and ordered one more appetizer, this time the pan seared dumplings. When they arrived I couldn't help but feel that a great deal of attention had been given to their preparation and plating. They were nestled in a combination of a very ginger forward ponzu and a light toasted sesame oil. The dumplings themselves were perfectly seared and managed to be both crispy and delightfully doughy at the same time. It was evident they were no ordinary dumplings, but that they had been prepared with great care. We savoured every bite. Although we didn't anticipate having dessert, when we heard white chocolate banana bread pudding, we couldn't say no. It was the perfect end to a perfectly unconventional meal. The flavors were amazingly complex, yet comfortably familiar. We savored it and both agreed it was one of the best bread puddings we had ever enjoyed. We were informed by our server that all of the desserts were from the chef's mother's recipes. If and when we are in town we will most definitely return to Eat. We shared some appetizers, the wings and the oysters Rockefeller and both were really good. I'm always a fan of a Korean style wing, nice crunch and glaze. My friend recommended the burger and it was fantastic. Wagyu beef with egg and side of fries. After approximately 10+yrs, I've come back. I had memorable meals & happy hours here. I came specifically for the crab/lobster cheesecake. Unfortunately, I missed the special but I knew anything I ordered would be top notch. Those are the expectations I've always had when I make a special trip out to EAT. The deviled egg was heavy on the vinegar/tartness but glad I tried. Oysters rock were rich, piping hot, perfectly broiled, and flavorful. I decided to proceed w/ ordering dinner & chose paella which was a board special. I've heard great feedback on the paella and have been wanting to try what a good paella is supposed to taste like as I've made it at home once. It does take awhile so order paella in advance. As I waited, I started getting hungry and asked for bread. The bread was delicious w/ a crisp crust, soft inside, and accompaniment of whipped butter was creamy. After awhile, the paella came out beautifully presented. There were some crisp nooks and crannies. The shrimp were plump, several clams didn't open & the mussels were not good at all. I ended up spitting out some of the mussels & not eating the rest. I let the staff know and they took off a glass of wine. The rice was flavorful. Was expecting more seafood, maybe some calamari, but at the very minimum, fresh shell fish especially coming from an upscale establishment. Ah-mazing!!! It's our wedding anniversary!! While traveling back into town, our original reservation was getting close and we were still an hour away. I canceled that reservation and looked for an alternate. Well I checked Open Table to see what restaurants had openings... This one here showed one reservation left. I went on a limb and booked it anyway then I checked out the reviews on YELP. Reviews were great... on to the menu... menu looked inviting. My husband of one year now, found parking on 39th street and we walked a block to get the restaurant last night. We were greeted promptly. Sat within seconds. I was already enjoying the vibe. The restaurant did have a smell... something that had my brow raised. But after a minute it went away cause I was thinking hmmmmm... We sat at a cute round table for 4 but it was just us. People were already dining, chatting... couples, family's, sisters, friends... so this place is for all. I do suggest reservations ahead of time. The restaurant gives off a boutique feel so seating for about 50 to 75 for the entire restaurant. There's a full bar with seating too. But just reserve ahead of time to prevent being turned away. I could go on and on to give you the full 5 star experience. But this place did not disappoint. Side eyes... we thought the deviled eggs were missing an ingredient or two... but we still ate them, happily. My lavender cocktail. I first wanted it because it was purple... too cute. It definitely gave me household cleaner vibes. I wouldn't order it again... but I still sipped it til the last drop. The voodoo (spelling) cocktails. NOW that was up my avenue!!! Strong and pleasant. Apps... potstickers very good. Meatballs... very good. Salads... crisp and delish! Main dishes... very good!! Porkchop... bone in... husbae was pleased. The sides cooked to perfection. From the moment you are seated to the time you pay the check, this restaurant's menu will entertain your taste buds. I had the 14oz bone-in pork chop. It's probably one of the best pork chops Inhabe ever eaten. The center was cooked to a perfect warm temp. The chop was well seasoned. The apple butter topijg was a nice addition. The brussel sprouts were great. The second star of the meal was the savory cauliflower cobbler with puff pastry. It was well executed and seasoned perfectly. We had a table reserved well in advance for Valentine's Day. When we arrived we were offered a terrible table in the front entry or a seat at the bar bistro tables; we chose the bar. Service was very fragmented, never really knew who our server was, but average. We selected the veal chop special. The veal was honestly like leather-I didn't know veal could be so tough. I love this place. We have visited numerous times and the food is always absolutely outstanding and so fresh. The drinks are good and so is the service. Their waitstaff is extremely knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely show interest in making your visit outstanding. Some awesome appetizers are their Oysters Rockefeller, and their Crab Stack (which is on special right now -- get it while you can!). For entrees, they have an awesome Filet Mignon and a Tuna "Bulgogi". I have a hard time thinking any of the food items here could be anything less than stellar! The chef of eat has some serious talent and creativity and it comes through in every single dish. They usually have specials and they are always good every time I have tried them. I always make a point to check out what they have on special before even looking at their regular menu. For dessert, you shouldn't even consider anything other than Mom's Banana Bread Pudding, which comes with vanilla ice cream. You may want to add an extra scoop but it is SO worth it!! Smoking hot, pink center. He sent it back and the chef sent the server right back out with it, the steak, now cold, was cut right in half on the plate which was now missing all sides. The message from the chef was that the steak was perfect and rare and he could take it or leave it. I laughed right out loud. The poor server. I asked for the check and she brought it with another obnoxious message from the cook. Oh boy. I can't imagine a worse response from a chef. An absolute gem, hidden just beyond the end of the boardwalk in the north end. We had an absolute first-class meal here. The menu was diverse, appealing, and creative. The oysters rock were probably the best we've had anywhere. The "ants on a log" app was unlike anything I've seen. A roasted marrow bone, topped with escargot. Fergus Henderson would be proud. I loved this dish, everything about it was perfect! I also had roasted quail, stuffed with venison sausage. Definitely a dish I haven't seen before, but it was delicious and really worked together. Also adding to the experience was a wonderful selection of single malt Scotch, and some creative cocktails. This is a special place, a far cry from what you would expect in the tourist area. We had amazing service and really good food. The parking here is tight. Make sure you park to the right of the restaurant because you'll get towed if you park on the left-hand side. The menu here is very interesting and everything that we had was very good. I feel like this is a place where you're either craving some thing from the menu, or nothing will be appealing. Everything had a very, very distinctive flavors. We started with the octopus and ants on a log. I don't normally care for octopus but I thought this was very good. The ants on a log was basil fed escargot on top of bone marrow. It was delicious. For dinner, my husband had the crab cake and thought it was delicious. This cute little spot is right nice to the new nice Marriott hotel at the Ocean Front. I reserved a table for my husband and I on Open Table. We arrived early and they were still able to seat us immediately. It is nice small intimate restaurant. We had good service and the menu seemed very good. I had a hard time deciding what to eat. I was disappointed in the drinks. I ordered a Lavender Lentini because it was one of their special drinks. I did not like it! So the server took it and gave me a Prosecco which tasted cheap and flat. Our appetizer was the "Fire and Ice" it was tuna tataki. It was the best thing I had tasted at the restaurant. I think I would come back and eat only this. So I highly recommend ordering it. My husband ordered the salmon special and I ordered grilled tuna buigoigi. My husband enjoyed his salmon, however my grilled tuna buigoigi with rice was overly sauced with what tasted like soy sauce. I couldn't finish my dish it was just too saucy. We ordered something from the dessert menu that had toffee flavored and ice cream. That was pretty delicious. I had to use the restroom and was caught off guard that the restroom was in the back, outside of the restaurant. It was freezing to go from the back door out to the bathroom. It is also one one single bathroom for everyone to use. The bathroom was shockingly clean. There were 2 of us and we finished probably only 2/3 of the paella meant for 1-2 ppl. Paella takes abt 45 mins to come out because it is made to order (and SOOOO worth the wait). Before I get into my review I want to say the food and service are the reasons I would return. The setting was average at best, there is no parking within a couple blocks all the parking lots surrounding Eat Bistro is private parking. Secondly we were sat in the corner of the restaurant which is no big deal normally, but we could hear the dishwasher running, the wall was in a dire need of a coat of paint and the electrical out was rusted. Now on to the reasons we will return. I started out with the Korean wings. They were so crunchy and the sauce was Phenomenal. They could make this into an entree if they wanted! Next I had the Boardwalk Cioppino all the proteins were cooked superbly, I just wish it had a little more salt in the broth to take it over the top delicious. For my third course I chose the cappuccino pot de creme, all I can say Oh my God was that delicious it silky smooth and the cappuccino flavor rang through. Yum! I had dinner here with a friend tonight and I admit, I was worried about the parking situation since it's at the oceanfront but there was a ton of metered street parking so it wasn't bad at all. I easily found somewhere to park the car without much trouble just up the block and a 2 minute walk. The inside was nice and elegantly decorated with a nice patio area outside that's adorable at night with some outside lights. They had a lot of dinner specials and I went with the scallops special which had three large seared scallops, a bed of cold thin pasta of some kind in a wasabi sauce with bokchoy and cucumbers and red peppers for $28. It was very good. My friend had the crab cakes - I didn't try it but it came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus - it was a HUGE crab cake and looked pretty delicious. For dessert we split the Pot du Creme and coffee with cream. The cream for the coffee was thick real legit cream. Yum. The Pot du Creme was highly recommended by the waitress who raved about it (so I felt like I made a good choice). It was served in a large coffee mug with a candy toffee/caramel "cookie" garnish - loads of whipped cream, some fresh berries and this AMAZING coffee/chocolate creme. OMG. Delicious - so delicious. I ate ALL of it - and it was big. Well, my friend had like 4 bites - I had 40. Haha. You need this - trust me. It's light and a perfect way to finish up a good meal without being too heavy and making you miserable. If you've never had it - think chocolate pudding texture but BETTER.
