A coworker introduced me to this place by bringing over a John Wayne Special once and I thought it was the most delicious thing I had tried in a while!!! It's their version of a loaded Huevo rancheros. Everything about it was great, what really stood out to was the sauce, it was so flavorful. We all went to eat there on another occasion and it was just as good! I may always order that when I go. The service was friendly and attentive. We were so excited to try Joe's but overall the experience left us pretty disappointed. The BLT was fantastic, no notes at all. Literally the first BLT that hasn't ripped the roof off my mouth open. Bacon was perfectly covered, lettuce was great quality, tomatoes good, perfect mayo amount, and the sourdough was tasty and perfectly toasted. Fries were the typical dense, white bucket fries. Nothing exciting. The omelette was crumbly and meh, home fries were ok. The toast was basically just bread, literally not toasted. We would have asked our server for help if they could be found; they spent most of the time outside with the host. I had the chicken fried steak because I've never had one before and what better place to try it that the most popular diner in the South Bay? Unfortunately it fell short. The steak itself was alright, more cooked well done than I prefer. However, the breading was completely soggy. It was oily and not crispy at all. It's been a wile since I had been here. This is Nikki's first time. Nikki had the Joes special and I had the Acapulco omelette. Both were amazing. That's about the best gravy I have had on biscuits. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've driven past this place since I was a kid and I finally got to try them! I enjoyed their veggie omelette with home style potatoes and rye bread. I like how the potatoes were closer to hash brown style than just cubes. It was seasoned well and hit the spot. I also ordered a short stack of buttermilk pancakes which were also solid! Their house salsa complimented the omelette and was so tasty. Service was attentive and friendly from the hosts to the wait staff. I got lucky a found parking right up front but they do have a parking lot. The place is clean and they play good music. They have a healthy menu if you're into whole wheat and egg white. Food is tasty, but nothing very special. Service is a bit slow. The green juice comes out of a bottle instead of being homemade. Took the pup for some fun time at the dog park about a mile away when hunger pangs came through, and since he was with me, dog-friendly eatery was the only way to go. And that's how we ended up here. Lucky enough to find street parking right up front. Checked in up front and immediately asked the host for patio seating since I came through with my fur baby. "Sure!" A blink and a half later, we were seated at a corner. I liked how all the tables and chairs were spaced out well. I got the chance to look at the menu so I knew exactly what I wanted: 2 eggs and chicken fried steak (with sunny side up eggs and sourdough toast.) Informed Chelsea, my server that I wasn't interested in the home fries and since I didn't want to waste it, they didn't need to add it on. She asked if I wanted a sub for it, "... cottage cheese? Fruit, maybe?" (Didn't know that was an option!) I went for the cottage cheese, why not. And an Arnold Palmer to wash it all down. I was a bit surprised my food came through a little fast, but I didn't mind: I was hungry! I liked that the gravy wasn't poured on top of the steak (I forgot to ask for it on the side) so yay! I started off with the cottage cheese, then moved on to the toast. Eggs were cooked to a perfect sunny side up. The steak, however, I felt was rushed. The batter was under seasoned as with the gravy. I thought maybe to have water to cleanse the palate, but nope. The flavor stayed the same. Dashed both thoroughly with salt and pepper and made a difference. But then, the steak was a bit tough, too... so, not great, overall. FOOD: 2.5. SERVICE: 5. Chelsea is fantastic at her job. She checked on me, gave napkins without asking, etc. There was service with a beautiful smile. But the cherry on top: I needed to use the bathroom but couldn't leave the pup and she volunteered to keep an eye on him while I go. I ended up not needing it, but the fact she volunteered?! Awesome. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Private lot and street available. Not an issue when we came through around 1130am-ish on a Saturday. OVERALL: 3.5. Went to EAJ on Father's Day for breakfast. It's been quite some time since we last ate here and returning here for breakfast was a great decision. Great variety of choices for breakfast or lunch. The prices are reasonable. The preparation of the food was perfect. This is a local diner style restaurant, so we're talking about eggs, waffles and pancakes, breakfast meats, home fries, biscuits and gravy, and a large number of sandwiches and omelets; something for everyone. To the business owner if you're reading this, GRISELDA needs to get FIRED. Completely rude from the jump. I don't know or care how long she's been working at your place, but the service we got was really bad. It was so bad we ended up leaving and didn't even eat what we ordered because we were upset. We sat at the patio and she didn't even acknowledge us. A white older couple sat behind us and immediately she gave them attention. We were there before them, yet she talked to them first and didn't say anything to us. We had to flag her down. She still didn't say hello, but rather walked passed us really fast and said "wait hold on" with her finger as she walked inside. She went back to that same white couple and gave them their drinks. She walked by us again and we flagged her down and told her we were ready to order. She told us to wait. Even then, when we told her we were ready, she was still catering to the older white couple who sat even further. The white old couple sat way further and we sat more closer and the server was still walking pass us back and forth catering to them. When we told her we were ready to order, she still told us to wait and went and took the white people's order first-- even when we were there and sat BEFORE them. She even saw us walk in before them. We felt a bit discriminated because I think she was judging us by how we looked. We're not that young. We just look young..and she probably thinks she'd get better tips from the Caucasians. When she finally gave us time, we inquired about their menu, because we didn't eat meat and asked about their plant-based options, she was very quick and rushy, she seemed annoyed and irritated. When we made a change on one of the items, her tone and demeanor sounded very arrogant and condescending because we had to change it. We told her we'd get the same of the other item and when we wanted to make a slight change because of our dairy allergies, She repeated what she said as if she was pist "OH IT'S NOT THE SAME THEN" as if she meant to say "you could've said that then." I couldn't even speak or say anything regarding our allergies to her because she kept walking away so quickly and left right away and yanked the menus. We felt so uncomfortable and upset that we didn't feel like staying there because the server was so rude and rushy. We honestly also felt discriminated against because she didn't really care about us but paid more attention to other tables who were white. We called in to make a complaint to their floor manager (Alex) who wasn't in at the time. No wonder this place is like this. There's no management there to oversee what's going on. My advise in the future is proper training to those servers. This is a quick diner spot but the service we got was crap. I'd get better service at a fast food and this establishment I'm sure would ask for tips. Horrible service. GRISELDA needs to either get fired, reprimanded, or banned from working at this place because they just lost a customer because of her horrible customer service. One would think if something has changed drastically, switching from real turkey to lunch meat, it would be mentioned when ordering. I've been hoping they might return to their former glory. I had been wanting to try this place for a very long time now. We had orientation at the high school next door so we decided to finally stop by. Service was a 10/10 !! Greeted as soon as we were seen coming in. It was very packed, it was a Thursday 10am. There seemed to be a lot of regulars, they were on a first name basis with the waitresses. Felt very much like home. My avocado toast and pancakes were great. Their hot salsa was a 10/10, it tasted very homemade!! My daughter got a cheeseburger, she's a very picky eater and she loved it! However, the waitress explained that on holidays or the day after, hash browns may not be available. So, home fries by default. And worst ,they purposely jacked up prices which is not warranted as the food stinks. They never read the orders and we've had to return food several times. I have neen a loyal Eat at Joe's customer for 50 years. Today I could not believe the changes in the food. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, eggs, toast Potatoes. WOW! Nothing like 6 months ago. The Chicken Fried Steak was not beef. Tasted like Ground turkey with a marinade. Tasted sharp almost like it was old and fermented. Had a Vinegar flavor. Spit it out. The gravey looked like it was out of a can. Not the famous white creamy sausage gravey we remembered. The potatoes were sliced and raw but very greasy. Not the chunks of home fries with onions and peppers. No half and half for coffee. Sourdough toast was not toast. Tasted like stale bread with not butter spread. Hope they read this. If they respond they should assure all they will return to the historical methods. The inprovements to the interior are nice but they must have broke the place read more

The Fresh Juices menu includes "green juice" which comes in a bottle and tomato juice which also is not fresh. I am puzzled why these are listed under Fresh Juices. The country fried steak was...different from what I am used to. I found it barely battered and on the tough side. It was closer to a thin, lightly battered pork chop. The biscuit was not great either. Hard and dry. Their Cobb salad was good. My spouse saw a line outside this restaurant one Sunday and wanted to try it. Even though EAJ has been a long time establishment in the So Bay it was our first time trying here. Parking for a weekday morning was a bit troubling since the neighborhood did not have any available street parking so we needed to park on the street across PCH. We enjoyed the diner "vibe" and we ordered the avocado toast that came with two eggs and potatoes and we enjoyed it very much. They were not "stingy" with the avocado mash on top of the sourdough toast nor the bacon pieces and tomato. It was enough that I took home half of the meal and had it again for lunch. The potatoes were thinly sliced potatoes which was a nice change from the usual hash browns or homestyle potatoes. Service and staff were nice and attentive and you can tell many customers are regulars. Was a nice neighborhood type of atmosphere. We will return again to try something else on the menu. read more
