We visited the restaurant on Sunday, April 19th with my entire family. We had a party of 16 and upon arrival, we were greeted by the host abd who I assume is the manager Victor. Victor went above and beyond to help my family and I with getting seated and making sure we had a great experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, not one item we ordered was missing or not placed correctly. The food and service is extra good. I like the place because it's noisy and the tables move around for modular arrangements. The noise makes it more private for me at least. I've been going here since my last review 2 to 3 times a week. Today there was a hiccup, I sat down, with the hostess allowing me to go to an open table. Then 15 minutes or more pass and finally when the manager walked by I told her that nobody came to take my order. She told me the coffee is on me. It was so noisy I thought she said it's on me, I'm like wow that's too good. I went to the register and told the manager I left the tip in cash. As I went out the front door I was listening for any reaction in case I misunderstood (and of course I had, Murphy's law). I heard Sir you haven't paid - quite embarrassed I gave her my credit card - really embarrassing - I guess my gut reaction was that a free cup of coffee wasn't much of an apology , but a comped breakfast was expecting way too much. Freudian slip on my part. Just note that at the Good Stuff down the road and across the street I've accumulated a lot of free food credits - a lot. And they don't address people as Sir there especially when you frequent them- they are more personal- you should check this out if you haven't already- the public parking though can set you back bc it adds up - it's $2 an hour at the meter. read more

Parking here is hit or miss. And you can look forward to a wait since this place is always packed especially weekends. But that's a good thing, right? Means the food is good. I like the breakfast here. For being so busy I'd say the staff here have it organized and moving quickly. The waiters and bussers are very attentive and we were surprised how quickly our food came after ordering. The price can be a little steep here but the portions are huge so if you like sharing I'd suggest it, unless you can eat 6 pancakes on your own, more power to you. Today I shared the banana pancakes with kids and ordered sides of eggs and sausages. Coffee and water and we were stuffed by the time we left. The busser came around about 4 times to t try and refill my cup of coffee which was nice but kindly declined after the first refill since I didn't want to leave a jitter bug with caffeine overdose lol. My wife and I have been going to the Original Pancake House for years. It is always a perfect choice when choosing to go out for breakfast. Surprisingly, since having kids, we've only taken them here a couple of times. And this last time, a week ago, was just as good as the first time we went. Service is always quick and friendly (even if there's a little wait for a table on busy Saturday and Sunday mornings) and the food is consistently fantastic. The wife and I shared the Eggs Benedict ($20.95) served with potato latkes (pancakes) and their version is really one of the best. Oftentimes at other breakfast places, the Hollandaise Sauce, which can make or break a perfectly good poached egg atop circles of Canadian Bacon and English Muffin, just isn't up to snuff. But not here at the OPH. Theirs has a slight lemony richness that is just near perfect. And those latkes are thin, slightly crispy and served the good 'ol Jewish way with apple sauce and sour cream. These suckers aren't your Nana's potato pancakes; they're amazing. The $20.95 pricetag has increased over the years but since we shared (and it was enough to do so), I was fine with it. The kids both ordered pancakes as if they believed they had no other choice at THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE even though I kept telling at least one of them to order the Apple Pancake or Dutch Baby. But they chose simplicity instead and thoroughly enjoyed theirs, one with pineapple and coconut (the kids' Hawaiian for $9.95) and the other with bananas ($9.95). They also ordered a side of bacon ($7.99) and turkey sausage ($7.50)...and I was glad they got the kids portion which was absolutely plenty with ample left over to take home. The total for the four of us for breakfast came to $78.65 with tip which is a far cry from what the two of us paid back in 2001 when we had moved to Redondo but this is the world in which we live these days and it doesn't look like there's any turning back. I certainly wouldn't deduct a star because of this. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a yummy, fun breakfast outing every once in awhile. read more

Our server was Maria and she took great care of us. Our water/coffee were constantly refilled. She came by a few times to check up on us. We got the strawberry pancakes, Dutch Baby, Eggs Michael and Eggs Benedict. All were good! The pancakes don't have flavor. They say it's buttermilk but even with syrup they don't have flavor. The coffee was bland. Customers service was amazing tho. I genuinely wish they did DoorDash delivery on weekends, since this is the only breakfast/brunch spot I will get up on weekend mornings to get takeout from. I went there today to get takeout and I was told by the older white woman at the register that they don't do takeout after 8:30am on the weekends which is weird because I was just there two weeks ago to get takeout in the morning around the same time I went today 10-11 on a weekend. She was dismissive and didn't even let me finish talking, I wanted to know if it was a new policy since I just got food from there recently. The outside decor keeps its obviously nostalgic feel for people of Torrance. The inside is newly remodeled, clean and very present day. The staff was extremely friendly, it almost seemed overstaffed as our table was set coffee filled and order taken within 2 minutes of sitting down. I ordered the corn beef hash with potato pancakes. It was tasty and moist. Usually the curse of corn beef is dry due to prolonged steam table storage. This was very good with a nice ratio of beef and potato. The pecan banana pancakes were excellent as well. For families I would recommend ordering a meal and just sharing. One breakfast entree can fill a parent and probably two small kids. read more

Great time at Original Pancake House. This was my first time back here in a very long time and it did not disappoint. Our waiter Isidro was extremely nice the whole time. He continuously came back to our table and asked if we needed refill on coffee or water. Very friendly. Our food was delicious and a great portion size. The wait time was also very minimal. Well she first brought him a regular plate of 3 buttermilk pancakes , he corrected her, she checked the receipt and went back to get his order straightened out but brought him his place with 6 medium-ish pancakes... I'm confused. My boyfriend decided to just not tell her anything and keep them. I got the Dutch baby and wasn't a fan.. was too much egg for my liking. The pancakes were okay. I really liked my scrambled eggs and bacon tho! Orange juice was great too, did taste freshly squeezed! Was great for a first and only time coming here or maybe next time I'll try a different plate. My "Soul Tie" decided to treat me to breakfast on December 19th, 2025 at this location. We found a parking spot upon a customer just leaving. The place was jammed packed but not to the point of uncomfortability. This location in my opinion pampers their customers. My friend and I was greeted and given service by Jefani and Mauricio. From the time we sat down Mauricio was right there to take our order for drinks. He not only poured coffee for my friend but was right there to refill it without her needing to call him over. These staff members go above and beyond to cater to their customers. I've never seen this type of service before and in a crowded restaurant at that!!! The music they played was at perfect volume. Jefani is the one that took our order. Good looking, pleasant and professional. Any questions we had concerning our order she answered. I had never been to a location like this so I went with the apple pancakes, scrambled eggs and turkey sausage with a grapefruit juice. I was very impressed that they served grapefruit juice as that isn't an option at most locations. It was very good. When my apple pancakes were brought out, I wasn't sure what I was seeing. In my opinion it was way too much topping for a pancake. Honestly it was more like an odd tasting apple pie than breakfast. I didn't care for it and regretted my order but went ahead and gave the eggs and sausage a try. They were perfect and on the money. My friend who ordered a waffle was happy with it but wasn't too thrilled at the fact that it was a thin buttermilk styled waffle and not the traditional american style. My pancake on the other hand taste soggy and weighed down. It even a hard overly crispy ring around it that was hard to cut through with a fork. I just couldn't with that pancake. I was going to take it as a loss. What happened when we decided to leave is what helped my decision to return. Patty who process the orders, greeted us in warm friendly manner. She even asked if we enjoyed our food. I was going to shrug it off as a loss. My friend spoke up and shared her concern about the way my pancake tasted (she gave it a try herself) and described to Patty what and why we didn't care for it and also that we didn't finish it after a couple of bites. Patty apologized sincerely for the experience and removed the pancake from the order. I was beyond shocked. That helped me to see that this location care deeply about customer service. I was beyond impressed. I want to give this location another try. I just hope I can talk my "Soul Tie" into returning or I'll just ask my husband who would be a first time customer. read more

A classic south bay staple. Everything here is good, I usually get an omelette with a side of specialty pancakes. On the weekends it does get pretty busy, and I selfishly wish this place was open longer. Sometimes I wake up hungover and want pancakes at 2pm but that's when they close! Most of the servers are very kind, one of the cashier people has a pretty snappy attitude sometimes though. We did also let our server know about an allergy but the kitchen still included that item in the dish, maybe the prep area isn't as organized as it should be. Overall great place! read more

I'm all about praising great customer service, and that is exactly what we got from Sofia! This was my first time at OPH, and we were stuck between a few menu choices. Sofia knew just what to do and customized our pancake so we could have the best of many worlds. We completely trusted her with our pancake order which was a pecan pancake made with banana batter, topped with fresh strawberries and bananas, plus their house-made strawberry jam. It was incredible! I also recommend trying the sourdough and potato pancakes for their amazing texture. The mushroom omelette was good, but honestly, the pancakes stole the show. There were a bunch of big parties waiting outside but my small party was seated within 10 minutes, even on a busy weekend. Got some brunch with my boyfriend and his family and we enjoyed our time here. We did have to wait about 40 minutes which wasn't ideal but this is a popular spot so we expected it. The restaurant is incredibly crowded and you are seated as close to other people as possible, and waiters are constantly walking around you so it's a bit chaotic and not as quaint of a diner as I was expecting. I ordered the eggs Benedict which was delicious. It came with potato pancakes which I liked but didn't love, a little too crunchy and oily for me. But the eggs Benedict were great. My boyfriend and his family all got pancakes work strawberries and eggs and sausage. The one thing we didn't love was the price, while the portions are generous they charge really high prices for their food so I likely wouldn't come back often as for breakfast foods it didn't seem like a totally fair price for what they were making. If you like different types of pancakes, this place is great because they have a lot of different kinds you can get. I went for the classic dollar pancakes, but I've had the dutch oven and the sourdough pancakes before. You should definitely get the dutch oven if it's your first time here! Price: Fair price for the quantity and the quality. I'd say that the portion sizes were fair in relation to the price. Ambiance: It gets VERY crowded during brunch hours on the weekends. There is usually a 30+ minute wait. The inside of the restaurant is often very busy and loud. It's hard to have a conversation in here, as there's a lot of noise and people. The space between each table is VERY little, so it's not very comfortable. Overall, I'd recommend this place for good food, but not if you're looking for a calm, conversational brunch on a weekend with friends or family. The omelettes here are simply divine! Fluffy, big, and filled with ingredients. I got the vegetarian omelette and my brother got the spinach with added sausage. We both said it was the best omelette of our lives. The pancakes that came as a side were the cherry on top. They are thin but the batter is great. So much better than those bready thick pancakes so many other places try to do. The Dutch pancake was also great and in my opinion! This was impressive because in my opinion, they are incredibly hard to do right so it was awesome seeing a small spot do it so well! Attention was a 10 out of 10 and so was the sped of service. The only thing I think people should know is that the restaurant is itself a bit loud so don't expect this to be a place where you have a long conversation or come to catch up with anyone.
