Let's be real here. Previously, I have actively avoided Eat The Worm due to the usual late night rowdy crowd. However, I went here for the first time on a Monday night after an evening of drinking, when they're not terribly busy, and not only did we get excellent (real) service, our food was on point. I was immediately converted. Now, here we are on a Saturday night, place is crowded, balls to ass, and we still received exceptional service, a quick beer while we awaited our to go order of nachos, and we ended up leaving without one of our wallets. Coming back ten minutes later, the same gentleman who took our initial order recognized us, knew exactly where our missing wallet was, didn't skip a beat, and continued to give a positive service experience to the other hungry/thirsry patrons. Thank you Zack and the rest of the Eat The Worm crew for providing a stand out, exemplary experience from the beginning to the end. You have won several local patrons from your neighborhood and we cannot wait to come back during our next bartender bar hop excursion. read more

i'm born and raised in omaha and i didn't even know this place existed. but if you're drunk and need something to eat, this is the place to go. there aren't a lot of places that are open late in downtown so i'm glad this place is. i had tried the nachos for the first time last weekend and it was super delicious! they were busy but they get the food out fast! 10/10 would come again and recommend to others! read more

I've always thought about stopping in this place when in the Old Market, but never had until one night it was the only food option available at the time. We ordered empanadas and the "trio". Now to preface, the menu reads like this: 1. salsa 2. guacamole, 3. queso 4. trio! We were visiting Omaha from Denver, tried Eat The Worm on a recommendation. I can't recall the bartenders name (I blame the memory loss on the Tequila) but he was big guy with glasses, funny socks, and a great imagination. Just tell him what you like and he will mix up a handmade creation that will leave you wanting more. We ordered taquitos and I could not believe it, not just some freezer to fryer cardboard tasting snack, but handmade, stuffed with fresh beef, cheese, and salsa, rolled up goodness! Those little guys were so melt in your mouth great I had to try the Carne Asada burrito. Equally great, I was reminded of the food I loved in San Diego! Only rating for the service To the doorman: Physical action should never be taken without at least attempting to give a warning. I have never been treated so rudely by anyone until last night. I was literally man handled by the door man for trying to go back into the bar to meet up with friends (Note: I had already paid for my food there). He wouldn't let me past him and as I was trying to talk to them, without asking me to leave, he shoved me away, yelled at me and literally pushed me outside. I am appalled at how violent he was, no warning at all just physical action. Sure if i was a drunk asshole then I would have deserved to be treated that way but I was ending my night and trying to make sure my friends got home safe. Overall, if you are looking for somewhere to treat you decently this is NOT the place. read more

We dropped by Eat The Worm around 5:00 Sunday night. After reading a pretty good review on the Omaha World-Herald, I wanted to try it out for myself. We were the only patrons when we arrived but it was shortly after they opened. You can definitely tell it was the old Zio's building but it was clean well maintained. It was much bigger than I remember though. The waitress/bartender was still in the process of wiping down the many bottles of tequila but promptly offered us menus. The menu was pretty small. They offered tacos, taquitos, nachos, and chips. I probably missed a few items but that was the vast majority of the menu. I ordered two beef taco's and an order of chips and guacamole. The taco's came out pretty quickly and they were similiar to the carne asada taco's that I love at Hector's. They came with two soft shells per taco with cubed beef, guacamole puree, and pico de gallo. I scarfed them down pretty quickly and while they weren't great, they were good and pretty satisfying. I consider it a pretty good deal at $2 each. Unfortunately, they were out of guac for the chips so it also came with guacamole puree which was okay but not the same thing. The server did apologized and said the chips were on her. This definitely isn't a place if you're trying to impress someone but I think it will fit nicely into the downtown restaurant scene. Stopped in here the other night on recommendation of a friend. This place, for what it is, is PERFECT. The entire food menu was about $3-6, for great stuff. I had a beef burrito for $4.50, and it was delicious. Smaller than Qdoba or Chipotle, but 10x tastier. You don't need the heft of those larger burritos, anyway. These are made "traditional style" and are absolutely delicious. I'm actually excited to go back and try something else off the super-cheap menu. Two thumbs up. read more

The Al Pastor taco used to be my fave but it's been very spicy lately - has pineapple in it! Also love the chips. Drinks - They have a wall of tequilas. This could be quite overwhelming but my bartender was knowledgeable and patient in assisting my groups' margarita's tequila decision - brought samples that appeased the specific palates of my group. The margaritas are; crafted with homemade ingredients, strong, fairly priced, and plentiful (bartender gave each of us the leftover drink sitting in his shaker). The margaritas alone would have me coming back here weekly, and I'm not a marg guy. Food - Fresh, well-seasoned, and the menu contains all the Mexican staples. There is really nothing to complain about here either. I'm gluten free, as was another member of my group, and Eat the Worm has soft, corn tortillas - . Fresh salsas and decent guacamole. Very disappointed. I was excited to visit eat the worm while traveling through Omaha because some friends from Creighton recommended it. My boyfriend and I grabbed "scratch" margaritas made with herradura, but they tasted like we were drinking only sweet and sour mix. I am hardly one to complain but I could not even make it a third of the way through the drink without feeling an immediate headache. So, without being rude, we ordered two beers from the bar to drink. The bartender rudely approached us, said "you're done with these?" And loudly threw away our margs. I would have appreciated at least a question about why we couldn't drink them. The chips/ salsa/ quest tasted good and I still prefer this place to some others in downtown, but I am certainly let down by the drinks and lack of professionalism. read more

I've been to this bar a couple of times and every experience has been the same. The food is incredible, it's authentic in a home-made style fashion. I cannot stress enough how tasty the food is. This issue with this place has been the service. On three different occasions, a couple weeks apart, my fiancé and I had horrible service. We would sit at the bar and the bartenders would ignore us! We were sitting less than a foot away from them and they'd find a way to very obviously avoid eye contact. It would take us approximately 30 minutes to catch their attention and order even though there wouldn't be anyone else being helped. We had the same time frame for when it was time to ask for the check. We go back for the food but we consciously know that the service will be quite taxing. read more

I was starving for some good food and stumbled in here a few nights ago. I got some grilled veggie tacos and an 'Albino Cheetah' I usually don't go for corn shelled tacos, but these were great! double shelled so the goodies don't fall out. the Albino cheetah is lots of tequila, some lime, and soda water. It's clear and goes fast. good name for the drink. they also have a decent selection of beers. My favorite menu item is the Taquitos. I've been here a few times. This place is just a late night spot,not so ready to head home yet type of joint. Service seem to be nice each time I've been. Although each time I went here I was "adult beverage induced" So it's a not so bad place. Had a few beers here. Never tried the food, not in a rush honestly. Maybe one day. When the place first opened it has great. The last 3-4 times it was terrible. Last time I went the waitress was too busy letting her friends take selfies with the bottles of tequila. Our order wasn't started until 20 minutes after we arrived since the cook was on break. They were out of a lot of things including napkins. They renovated when they took over from the Zios that used to be there, but the place has gone to hell since. It is very rundown for its old market location and its age. It is in one of the safest areas of omaha, but I don't feel real safe in there. The paper just ran a story about an assault in the alley behind it by a customer of the establishment. read more

We went to Eat the Worm for a late night snack. While the environment still seemed lively, the food was just not very good. First, you should know that although the "Trio" is listed on the board with no description beneath Salsa, Guac, and Queso, the queso is $2 extra. The trio is just Salsa, Salsa II, and Guac. I wound up buying the Queso for $2, but in hindsight should have either sent the trio back or asked them to trade out the guac for the Queso, because the guac was brown and gross. It was a about the only place downtown at 9:00 at night that wasn't packed to find food before our concert. Should have went hungry. They have nachos, burritos, tacos etc. food is an afterthought. It's a bar. It took forever to order even though there were only two people ahead of us. We ordered chips and salsa, a couple burritos and canned soda. We had to clear off our own table to sit down. The chips were fried on site. They were delicious and were the best part. The burritos were ehhh. The outside was crisped on the griddle so it was good. But the inside was flavorless and all the same mushy texture. My husband was not impressed with his either. The bathrooms were gross. Pure nasty. I wandered into here on a Friday night while I was babysitting my friends by being the sober driver. They were a little hungry so we got some tacos and nachos. A little pricy and not as good as what you can get in South O, but considering the fact that they are downtown and open late it'll do. As far as drunk food gigs in the Old Market go this place is the best. However, the Bartenders were less then friendly... My friend asked the bartender what the specials were, she rather rudely responded, "The usual..." I guess if we had known what the special was we wouldn't have asked. The specials were Margaritas, pass, so my friends decided for whiskey. They asked the bartender what there best whiskey was, she said Jim Beam... I'll mention that they had Gentleman Jack and Knob Creek... Jim Beam isn't your best sweetheart... To make a long story short the drinks were $7 for a little whiskey and a lot of coke. I heard they had authentic street tacos here. They try, but not quite. Eat the Worm seems like more of a late-night "the bars closed we need munchies" spot. The interior is rather drab and desperately needed a sweeping, but they feature some standard Mexican items that you shouldn't be able to screw up: nachos, tacos, etc. The nachos were so-so: the queso blanco was somewhat bland and runny. The tacos were the major disappointment: the meat was barely seasoned and the condiments couldn't even breathe flavor into them. I still don't have a real go-to spot for tacos here, but would sober up, drive to the south side, and get some middle of the road tacos at De Leon's before I walked here again. read more

While the mexican food here may not top the best authentic places in town it is definitely WAY above the standard tacos & nachos you will find at other bars. They are actually making food here not just assembling it. The queso and empanadas are made on site and the meats are seasoned in house and cooked fresh. The staff and service are always great. 3 or even 4 stars are not out of reach for this place had it not been for the very watery cheese dip that came with my chips and an odd pork taco. Mostly flavorless and uninspired. I also ordered two tacos, the Mahi Mahi (fish), and the al Patron. The Fish taco was very good. Worthy of L.A.without question. I mentioned my satisfaction with the cook and he nodded with appreciation. Very tender and well spiced. The al Patron is some sort of pork thing with some pineapple in there somehow. Slightly sweet and spicy. The pork was visibly dry and unimpressive, and the flavor left a lot to be desired. Next time I'll stick with a couple of fish tacos, you really can't go wrong with that. Excellent margaritas. They have a wide selection of tequila. The price for a scratch margarita ranges from about $6 - $11 (depending on your choice of tequila). They're usually quite strong, so much so that you really don't need a second one... so, worth the money! Their food menu is limited and, for most people, an afterthought. I wouldn't say we ever visit FOR the food, but we do occasionally enjoy chips and dip or a veggie burrito. Just know that it is more like Mexican "street food" than anything else. Seriously tasty tacos are a bargain and a half for the price. Could do without the crap service - it was an exercise in patience flagging the server down for every... freaking... thing. Turned a 30 minute meal into 1.5 hours of frustration. Other than that, LOVE it! Watch the generic tequila that comes with the meal deal. We really liked it here. If we lived in Omaha we'd be there ALL the time. I can only speak for the DRINKS (margaritas) because we didn't eat. They were DELICIOUS - we would have sat there & drank all day if we didn't have to go to the next Berkshire Hathaway event at the Nebraska Furniture Mart. The bartender & server were both really nice. We did try to go back Sunday but they were not open until 5pm. We were a little disappointed.....
