Really solid experience at EBISU! Good quality fish and rice. Portions are on the smaller side, but I'd say quality over quantity. We had a large party (13 people) without a reservation. Thankfully the host seated us in their semi-private room within a few minutes. Servers were very patience and attentive with our party. All of the food our table ordered was very good. We went on a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. The menu is quite extensive so we ordered plenty. We ordered Carpaccio, Fried Mushrooms, Fried Soft Shell Crabs and 4 Sushi Rolls. They can work on the appetizer portions because they were small. There was only 2 pieces of soft shell crabs that was cut in half and the mushrooms were cut in half too. In a nutshell; a great place to stop by and enjoy some Japanese food. Went on a weekend afternoon, was not that busy, parking wasn't difficult at all, servers were accommodating and nice. Food was very good. Not the biggest serving of mixed tempura but it was made well and the tempura sauce provided was a good compliment. Sushi roll i got was a good number and quickly satiated my hunger and was delicious. The music coming in though was rather too kdrama or soap opera sounding but I believe one of the servers heard me pointing that out and actually changed the playlist so I muchly appreciate that. Beautiful presentation, quality fresh fish, and pretty fast service. The server was also very knowledgeable about the different fishes they serve. The only negative thing I can say is that I didn't love their vinegar mix for the nigiri rice it could be a little sweeter but some people prefer the more sour taste to it. The space is also very clean and nicely furnished though my friend said the bathroom could use some tending to. I'll be back to try their wagyu and toro. read more

I've been to Ebisu a couple of times and both times the fish was super fresh and premium quality, so I'm happy to give them a 5 star rating. The non sushi/sashimi dishes are also super good and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I've tried the chirashi don and the super combo and the fish quality was of such caliber I could instantly tell it had surpassed my old faithful sushi-ya back in Sac. My old faithfuls serve up high quality fish but Ebisu was able to top them by a notch. The prices are a bit higher so you do have to pay for the extra quality. My super combo was pretty special because they graciously give us bluefin tuna in both nigiri and sashimi. The ebisu roll is a deep fried roll that is pretty special. The fish is fairly cooked inside so it will delight the non-raw diners in your party. The super combo is a lot of food and even big eaters will find it satisfying. The chirashi don is smaller than chirashi dinners served at other restaurants (and the price is also much less), so be aware you may want to order more food to go with it. Some other awesome morsels we tried included the kaki fry (oysters), chimchurri steak, and hamachi kama. The kaki fry was better than all the other places I've tried, it was crispy and light, not hard crunchy like other places. Service is excellent and they are always attentive and kind. We asked about any birthday bonuses for our son, and they gave him a cool looking mochi on a plate that spelled out Happy Birthday in matcha powder. It's not crazy crowded like those chain sushi places, so I Iove the relaxed atmosphere. They have a couple of private rooms so if you have a big party this is the place! I'm tempted to be selfish and hide this gem to myself, but I must share the news to all my fellow sushi lovers. So if it does get more crowded once word starts to spread, so be it! read more

Service was very slow when we went, waited 10-15 mins for food; they forgot our green tea initially, and took another 10-15 mins to get our check... We ordered two entrees and one sushi roll: one was chicken katsu curry and the other was chimachurri steak. And the Sacramento Roll. The sushi roll was a big disappointment; the texture felt off and there was very little avocado. We didn't like the sushi at all. The entrees were okay in terms of portion, especially given that it was BOGO free. However, I was super disappointed in what they presented as chimacurri sauce: it was basically soy sauce with steak seasoning in it. Ohhh this place is pretty good. I only found out about this place because of a private event in their small banquet room . It holds about 12-14 people comfortably. Decor was modern, clean, and bright. They have a spacious sushi bar with comfortable seats. Menu has most of the standard items you may find in any good reputable sushi restaurant. I ordered the poke bowl, tofu, and some sort of roll all for me !! Haha it was too much food. And I will say every bite was delicious and defiantly worth the calories. I was blown away by this restaurant! The outside was unassuming, and the restaurant is located in a strip mall. My cousin took us here on a Friday, we were a party of 3 and there was plenty of seating. We got: sushi taco ($12), seared tuna crunch, Sacramento roll ($17), Hokkaido roll ($18), truffle Hamachi ($28). The truffle hamachi was so buttery, fresh and delicious. My Sacramento roll came with soft-shell crab, avocado, unagi, ebi, crispy fried onion with delicious special sauce. The stand out was the Seared tuna crunch, which had some many textures and layers that was this infusion of flavor in my mouth. Will definitely reorder again. Price is comparable to other sushi joints like Mikuni's. The interior was modern, clean with plenty of TVs for those sports fans. I love the plates and cups. We got a pot of hot green tea with barley (only $2.50!), it was perfect. I'm a tea snob and this was right temperature and right amount of tea, roasted barley and green tea. This restaurant is under new management, apparently, and it seems to be having its struggles. Our party of 10 started with two small plates of fried calamari, very good! Then dinner. The katsu plates were cold by the time it was served, two of our guests sent it back for heating but it took awhile. The worse part was the service. The waitress was not good and no one else would even help, including the owner. We were able to reserve a 12:00 pm private room for 8 people 1 week before celebrating May birthdays for 2 friends. The service was slow at the beginning, I had to get our servers attention to get our orders. Food was served within 15-20 mins., our server Nikki was very attentive from that time on. A bowl of rice with furikake seaweed salad and a ton of salmon. 5/5 super rich and creamy salmon. Not like creamy like cream cheese but.if you know sushi, you know what i mean by creamy texture for salmon. Chirashi don was also so very good. Second, it took a long time for anyone to come take our order despite there only being 1 other table occupied. My friend got a bento and I got a roll plus agadashi tofu. When my tofu was served it did not have the green onions or shaved daikon as listed on the menu. My sushi roll was good but you couldnt taste much since they put so much sauce on it. My friend said her sashimi in her bento was extremely fishy. Overall this was very mediocre for price and experience. After a long day spent on my feet in the healthcare industry, I took myself to a little restaurant in the neck of the woods of Elk Grove. Ebisu! :) I walked into the restaurant and this is my second time being here. First time writing a review, the lights were bright and about 70% of the restaurant was full. Although, given it didn't feel busy and neither did it feel bustling. Lots of chatter and conversation and music was fairly low. We were instantly greeted and sat by our server. And she immediately brought out waters after asking us what we would like to drink. A few moments of looking at their menu, I started to order a little here and a little there. We first started off and shared the Large Asahi Beer, it came out with two crisp cold glasses. Was refreshing Next came out the Garlic Salmon, it was topped with avocado, garlic crispy chili, and micro greens. The sauce was a bit too sweet and thick. I think I'm used to having a more light, tangy, citrus-y sauce with it. Due to the savory sauce and avocado, the lack of micro greens and no daikon, there wasn't enough balance between the flavors. It wasn't nasty nor was it the best thing I have ever eaten. But it's probably something I wouldn't get again, although the slices of salmon were fresh and thick. Next thing that came out was the oyster shooters, not much to say besides the warm sake, egg, gave it the normal oyster shooter taste still a big W for me. We ordered pickled wasabi and soon after the bluefin toro nigiris came out. It was amazing and fatty just how it should be. Great balance of thick pieces and rice. Would definitely order again. Everything came out one at a time and after a bit of time came the hamachi Kama and ziggy roll. Service felt a little slow at this time and it took awhile. Ziggy roll was good and a little bit too much rice for me, I ripped some of the rice pieces off. The hamachi Kama was great and cooked well. The ponzu sauce that came along with it was nice as well. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, would possibly return in the future, but I feel like for the price I paid and the quality I received in return did not match. What a hidden gem! I'm so happy I found this place. It's sort of tucked in a shopping center that you wouldn't think to look for a sushi spot, but it's so beautiful! I've come here a couple of times and have not been let down. Service is always really great and the food is 10/10. A favorite of mine is the double toro roll and for cooked food I love the sea same chicken. But honestly everything that comes from their kitchen has been yummy. The environment is so nice with comfortable chairs, balanced distances between the tables, and the jazz music! The waitresses were very kind and did anything to make customers' time a good one. I hope she knows she's doing well :) Now on to the food, we got wakame/seaweed salad, sea steak, philly roll, ebisu roll, lion king roll, and HW-5 roll. Starting off with seaweed salad and the sea steak was welcoming with the salad just being yummy and the sea steak seared amazingly. The tuna tasted fresh and there is a nice kick to it. It's overpriced & low quality & took quite a bit of time to come out; ~8 mins for miso, ~21 mins for the jalapeños, ~40 mins for half of our sushi orders & 51mins for the rest to come out. Ginger; thick inconsistent slices & very large sizes! All sushi rolls; looks different with uneven slices (thick/small roll sizes), yet tastes the same (all plain tasting) just like a cali roll, & they had poor thick cuts of fish! Oh and BONUS! It comes with fish bones! Yum! Sake bomb: sake was barely hot & very little...w/ good amount of Sapporo Miso soup: bowl filled half way... idk maybe they didn't have enough or wanted to save extra for tomorrow or the next day? Wasabi: typical wasabi u get anywhere else The best sushi roll was the lion king, however, it was poorly constructed and still raw even though it's a baked roll... I couldn't tell if the rolls were lying flat or vertical either (they were lying flat). I think what made it good was the sauce. Also, I enjoyed the jalapeños peppers.
