I just love this place. The people who own and run Eidelweiss work hard to provide delicious food in a super friendly environment. My husband and I go for breakfast almost every week. My favorite breakfast dish is the Edelweiss special. Think eggs Benedict but with avocado. We are always greeted with a smile, friendly conversation and a great cup of coffee and wonderful food. Stopped in on my way for a hike and the place was buzzing with what looked to be locals, having coffee eating hearty breakfasts and waitstaff buzzing around. Around 830. Even as they were rushing round, they were friendly to me as I was getting a sanwich to go. I ordered a bk sandwich with ham on toasted wheat adding tomatoes only and a small Juice. 7.95! I sat on a bench and waited about 5 mins before It came out. Wow, that was fast. I tried to be discreet and peruse what people were eating and everything looked and smelled delish! Sandwich was delish. Not greasy and cooked perfectly. Liberal amount of ham too! I only ate half as I did not want to be to full for the hike. Good breakfast place located in the heart of Old Town Auburn. We stopped by for a late lunch on a Sunday: my wife had the Hawaiian burger and I had the Chef Salad. Prices were very reasonable and the portions large: we both had enough leftovers for another meal! I was very impressed with my salad: generous helpings of meat, eggs and cheese made it a surprisingly hearty meal. My wife had similar complements for her burger. Waitress is a wack job. Twice she got my order wrong. Second visit she just wouldnt let it go she kept saying she dosent make mistakes. LoL she needs to write your order down cause she forgets and she will give you want she wants. And if you complain she goes ballistic on you and might even kick you out of the place. Underwhelming food. The gravy didn't have flavor nor did the chicken fried steak. Not just this restaurant but most need to understand that you're the chef so you season the before it gets to the table. I know some people like things different but there is a middle ground. Atmosphere was adorable. Such a cute little restaurant. We got here when it first opened because we saw that it gets busy. We were greeting with a welcoming smile. I had the Strawberry waffle $7.95. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was cooked to perfection. The strawberry sauce was homemade and so delicious. My husband had a sausage omelette $11.00. He said it was delicious. He even loved the side of toast that he loved. We got a dessert of baklava to go which was homemade and fresh. Was one of the best ones we've ever had. This was definitely a place where everyone knows everyone and all the locals visit regularly! We stopped in for lunch on our way out of town while traveling, and it did NOT disappoint! Split pea soup and a grilled turkey, ortega chiles and jack/American cheese sandwich for me, eggs benedict with hash browns for my mom. Decided to try a local place and came upon Edelweiss. We got there during their morning rush between brunch time which caused the slow service but the food was great! The omelette was delicious. With breakfast, you get a toast with their homemade jam. Their jam is delicious. The sandwich was good too but their breakfast was the best. Decided to go to Edelweiss for breakfast with visiting friends last Sunday. I've heard good things and read very good reviews of the restaurant. Seems to be a locals favorite. Unfortunately for me it was disappointing. The restaurant is old school quaint, and down home cozy. Okay by me. Service was okay, but not exceptional. Our orders were not that complicated, but it seemed like it took a long time for the food to be delivered to our table. I ordered the Edelweiss Special Benedict. I figured if it was one of their specials it would be something special. Well, I was a bit surprised with what I received for $15. Two sad looking benedicts with dry sausage patties, and overcooked poached eggs. No hollandaise sauce with this item although it comes with their avocado sauce in a bowl. Not very appetizing or appealing. No real flavor. The country fried potatoes that came with it were pretty good. For balance I asked my wife about her omelette. She didn't think it had much flavor although I have to admit they were huge. So, not for me. You get one chance in Auburn. There's too many other breakfast places to try here. read more

The food deserves 10stars. Everything was cooked to perfection. I ordered the mini breakfast with 2 pieces of bacon and over easy egg, which came with an order of hash browns and 2 pieces of toast. The homemade jam served with it was delicious. My boyfriend's order was ham steak and scrambled eggs, hash-browns, and 4 pieces of toast. Our food was so appealing we didn't take a picture, just jumped right in. Our bill was only $20 so the price was right and food was great. Went there this last Sunday 01/22 and it took over 10 minutes to get drinks and took an overall 20 minutes till we saw a server my husband got a waffle with scrabbled eggs and he couldn't even finish it due to it the waffle being burnt plus his eggs were cold once we finally got our bill our waitress who we found out was the owner due to a friend gave us a mobile card reading device and before giving it to us she put a 20% down for a tip! Walking up Downtown Auburn, one may accidentally miss a cozy little American restaurant. Only a small fools-gold colored sign hangs above the covered sidewalk, but "Edelweiss Restaurant: House of the Super Omelette" is flamboyantly displayed in a variety of fonts colored yellow with red bordering. Inside is a quaint space of close off-white tables with forest green booths and chairs, wood-paneled walls with various photographs of landscapes hanging, old gold colored fans with faint orange lighting lost to the overhead LEDs, and wooden lattice work along the back walls that hide the kitchen. I'm handed a menu with a smile and a quick order of coffee (which isn't bad for your breakfast joint cup o' joe). Within the laminated pages is a huge list of American breakfast goodies from scrambles to sandwiches to their famed omelettes. After a slow process of elimination I decided on the the shrimp and bacon omelette with well-done hash browns with a biscuit on the side. Within a fair wait, I was given a fat plate filled to the edge with food: and a smaller plate with an odd square biscuit. Half of the plate held beautifully browned hash browns, and the other half with a humongous smooth egg omelette with a bit of cheese peeking out the sides that, unfortunately, had a bit of shrimp odor to it that was almost masked by the bacon. Not a big issue, but not the best indicator of absolute freshness sometimes. Flavor-wise it tasted how a bacon and shrimp omelette should be: plenty of crunchy shrimp complimented by lots of salty/fatty bacon and mellow swiss cheese. Yet not much more. The potatoes were wonderfully crispy as asked, yet they had no seasoning. Whether this was a mistake or for customer customization, it wasn't the worst thing in the world. After all, a bit of salt, black pepper, and hot sauce fixes most things. The cornbread biscuit was the real winner here. This square biscuit was almost cake-like in appearance and texture with the sweet taste of cornbread. On the side was their house-made raspberry jam in a small Ball jar. It held the pleasant tart kick of raspberries with enough sugar to immediately brighten it up a bit too much. Luckily the salted butter calmed that right now. Overall, I left fairly happy. The staff were very kind and I noticed that the possible owner walks around and talks to a few longtime customers. It's a cozy place - with a slower older vibe like the town - where good food is served in generous portions for the price. It gets a good 3 from me. read more

We did wait a bit to be seated, longer to get drinks, order and to get our food but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because we came on Black Friday mid morning and they were running with 3 in the front of the house and probably a few in the back. I'd like to come back on a slower day and see. Very mountian, Auburn feel about it. You know it's been around a while based on the decor and store set up, but that's not a bad thing if your looking for a homey, small town vibe. Stopped in Auburn for gas and breakfast after leaving Lake Tahoe. It was a great find for a quick and hearty breakfast. For 2 people we waited 5 minutes to sit down. We were in and out in 40 minutes. Their omelettes are HUGE! I'd probably go for the half omelette myself next time. Pancakes were also good and the breakfast sausage was bomb. Lots of good vegetarian options. You can get other sides besides fries.. choices include green salad, cottage cheese, soup or potato salad. We also order a side of onion rings. They were sooo good we had to order a second order! One warning for the potato lovers out there - they have hash browns & country potatoes. The hash browns are as to be expected. The country potatoes are LOADED with garlic. So much, in fact, I could smell them long before they got to the table and long after they left. I'm not gonna lie - the garlic was a bit overwhelming...and I'm Italian...and LOVE garlic.
